I love this salon and Allen is the absolute best ever!!! The salon is located downtown right next to municipal parking as well as Smith and King's for that after hair-did cocktail ;) The salon itself is stylish/chic but also comfy and down to earth with totally good vibes. The owner Ryan is a sweetheart and it's always great talking story with him when he's there. Allen is a freaking hair genius!! I've been going to him for years now and usually just go in with total trust and confidence of letting him do whatever he wants with my hair - it always comes out perfect in the end whether it's a balayage, highlights, all over dye, or chopping 12 inches off for that perfect inverted bob! Allen's personality and charm is totally contagious and will make you feel like you're just hanging out with your bestie for 3 hours. I started going to ryanjacobie when the salon first opened. it is right around the corner where i work, so I decided to stop in on a whim. Ryan helped me through my wanting-to-get-bangs phase (havent had bangs for 20 years!) and they turned out great! what i love about the haircut service is that it also includes a wash and blowout. it also includeds a touchup a few weeks after your cut. what a deal! everyone that i've met who works there has always been super nice, and ryan tries to know you as a person, not just another customer. they will be offering more types of beauty services, so i will be going there more often!! read more

I seriously love this place; it's honestly so hard to find a good salon on this island. I've been to three places so far; one that closed down, Dada salon and here. Finally found the right place to go to my haircut to the point where I actually love it! No one has ever cut my hair the way I described it and even if I bring in pictures, still looks like an ordinary haircut, so ordinary to the point where you go home and everyone's like, "You got your haircut? Hm Can't tell." I found a perfect Groupon: Haircut, Shampoo, and Sugar-scrub for $35, I really really regret not buying 10 of these groupons since I only bought one. Anyway, I made my appointment with Davey and I am now a new loyal client. They were so sweet because they let me readjust my appointment time and on top of that I was late because of traffic and I was so grateful that they weren't upset with me! The sugarscrub was amazing I loved it, it was so relaxing afterf running around like a chicken without a head all day. The head massage was excellent. They wash your hair out with sparkling water, I haven't had that since I went to Germany. Definitely enjoyable. Then I got my haircut which didn't take too long, I loved it so much. I have never felt so happy and excited after a haircut, I was so in love! I'm so happy that he dried it and straightened it for me afterwards since I was gunna go see my boo that I haven't seen for about 2 months. read more

This is the place to go if you want an experience and not just a haircut/style. The shampoo is the highlight of the experience! Instead of taking you to some brightly lit room where you feel you can't really relax during the wash, Ryan Jacobie has a peaceful back room with relaxing music and dim lights. This enhances the shampoo experience, which is relaxing in and of itself. The stylists are very knowledgeable and do a great job on your hair and on listening to what you are looking for. I went to Ryanjacobie last week!!!! Kinda like a rescue mission, because my hair was damaged. I called making a last minute appointment which they actually took me the same day. When I entered the salon, the one on the desk was awesome. I was late, a tad bit. He offered me refrestment. Lovely~ The salon is well maintained, my stylist was Davey. I asked him to color my hair black, to get rid of the mistake from the previous salon (that I won't name,cause that would be mean). He said no hahaha, so I told him I trust you with my hair. I did the deep condition and hair color correction. I really like there wash room, where you enter it's like a relaxing room (like a spa, no joke. They got candles and music.) It was so relaxing, oh ya and dark. So after my deep condition treatment, next was coloring my hair. Like literally my hair had like different color everywhere. My last last salon, they over processed my hair (damaged). It was crispy!!! Davey said going for a natural hair color and to play with the balayage I got. The whole process was amazing. I had 3 different color tones in my hair. *Major plus Davey will keep you very entertain* Highly recommend him and this salon* So I left the salon looking fabulous and tips on maintaining on getting healthy hair. I read about the Ryan Jacobie Salon here on yelp, and made my decision to trust my long hair to them. I am a guy, and I do... did have long hair. I called them just after opening at 10am today (Saturday) and was able to get an appointment as early as Noon; which I then turned down for one at 2pm. I arrived, and while the parking was a little steep, I didn't mind too much because parking is expensive EVERYWHERE here. I arrived and just as the other reviews claimed, I was warmly welcomed and offered some refreshments. My stylist, Deena, then came to talk to me and we went over what I had in mind for my hair. Granted, I asked her to do stuff that the Paul Mitchell School taught her NEVER to do, and so she warned me it might take a little loner. She washed and shampooed my hair in this dark, candle lit and relaxing room, and then back out to start cutting. Deena seemed particularly nervous because of trying something she'd never done before, and as a result she was being extra cautious and slow. I loved it!! She warned me and asked me first to make sure she could go slow and deliberate to try and get everything just to my liking. We collaborated through the whole thing as well, and my hair ended up amazing! Granted yes, I'm writing this the same day I received the cut and everything, but they guaranteed the work, and if there's something just horribly wrong, I was told to call. I loved that! I know I'm rambling now but I have to add, that I was in there from 2pm, until almost 5pm.. (mainly because I kept adding things and can never make up my mind); however it was a GREAT experience, and I'd recommend this jewel to anyone!! Thanks again Deena! read more

I've seen Alyse twice now for my hair so I know it's not a first-time fluke, she has given me both cut and color and done a fantastic job! Like many women in Honolulu, I've pretty much been to most of the salons in town and aside from one particular hairstylist whom I love and used to see regularly but just honestly can't afford ($100 a haircut?! Who can afford that?), most stylists have just been kinda "meh." Since having a baby and starting grad school, this working momma has had put getting my hair did in the splurge rather than necessity category, which meant I went about a year and a half without doing anything to it. I realized I was looking a little too much like Cousin It and found RyanJacobie here on yelp (thanks yelp-philes!) and am so glad I did. I have really long, thick hair and want to be able to style it and look professional when necessary but also have it be voluminous and messy beachy the rest of the time, without it feeling super hot and heavy. My first appointment with Alyse a few months ago, she managed to cut my hair giving me long, well blended layers and taking some weight out without taking out too much volume. She also was relatively fast and does a great scalp massage. The extra bonus is that it was so affordable! I don't know if all of the stylists have the same rates, however, so keep that in mind. I went back recently for another cut and decided to get highlights and kick my "ombre by accident" (ie really grown out highlights and baaaad roots) up a notch. Again, Alyse did not disappoint. I now have natural, subtle highlights and another great cut! My only complaint is this time getting the color done, it took a long time...but that's not really the salon or stylist's fault, it just takes a long time to do highlights period. Very happy with my hair and will definitely be returning! Next time I'll try to remember to take a pic when it's styled all pretty-like : ) read more

Due to some scheduling conflicts I started going to see Kylie. She is wonderful. I even referred some friends of my mom's to her and they all feel the same way and love her. I don't usually get my hair colored so I cannot attest to that but her hair cuts always leave me feeling refreshed and clean. Kylie is sweet and extremely easy to talk to so it makes for a much more enjoyable experience. Her hair cuts go for about $45 not including tax and tip. read more

I came here for the first time about two weeks ago. I came here to get a haircut from Alyse, and I love it. I really needed to get rid of my yucky ends and change my hairstyle a bit so I asked her to give me a long bob. She did an awesome job with my hair and gave it a little twist. I definitely felt like a whole new person after she was done. I really enjoyed that scalp massage while she rinsed out my hair and I also loved how she styled it and recommended how to do it at home as well as recommending what products would work well with my hair style. Gave him free range of my hair, and he gave me the best bob I've ever had in my life. It's asymmetrical and falls so well. I've worked with Ryan on a bunch of modeling gigs, and he's never failed to style my hair into some gorgeous, high-fashion design I wish I could carry around on my head for the rest of my life. Last week, I asked if he could do some damage control and fix my scraggly ends into something that would look healthy and cute. I asked for no layers (I have really thin, straight hair). Instead of cutting it straight across like other stylists have done, he curved the back into what he called a "smile" so it gets a little shorter toward the front. Now instead of throwing my hair up into a bun every morning I wear it down and feel confident that it looks good. He also suggested a deep conditioning treatment because my hair was so damaged. Before I could barely run a brush through it; now I can brush it easily and it feels way more full and strong. It wasn't too pricey, either. I'm so glad I went into ryanjacobie. From the very first phone call to RyanJacobie Salon, I knew I had made the right choice. Landon was very helpful and arranged the appointment, including a pre-service consult. The day after the consult, Davey came to our hotel room to get my daughter "Red Carpet Ready" for her prom. All I can say is that my baby looked absolutely amazing! He used all of her beautiful attributes to make her look like a runway model. Everyone was speechless! In my lifetime, this has to be the worst haircut I ever had: - the hair in the back of my neck was never cut. I ended look like a retard looking at the uncut hairs in the back of my neck. - my sideburns weren't even trim. The width of my sideburns are longer than the hair on the side of my head. - Beware: I'm very surprise on how this salon got 4-5 stars. Based on the reviews, I booked an appointment at Ryanjacobie and the person who answered the phone set me up with the most experienced stylist, Davy Paned. I was prematurely excited about getting an appointment with the top stylist. I should have read the reviews more carefully and asked for Ashely or Amy as they seem to receive the best reviews. Davy is supposedly one of the top stylist at the salon (probably measured in years and not skill) and he charges $80 for a haircut while the other stylists charge $40; Ryan $60. When Davy was done, my hair looked nicely layered except for the fact he parted it on the wrong side. He even asked me before he started cutting my hair which side I parted my hair on. I realized he parted it on the wrong side to showcase my grey hairs, which is more numerous on the right side than on the left. I made a comment about not realizing how grey my hair was becoming and of course he quickly seized the moment to tell me of the hair coloring the salon could do. I would have respected him more if he had mentioned it during the haircut instead of showcasing my grey hair with the style he gave me and waiting for me to say something. Additionally, after I washed my hair at home, my hair poofed out instead of falling into place like it should have if I had received a proper layered cut. A straightening iron didn't even help. After Davy spent two hours snipping my hair and I spent over $80 for his expertise, I expected my hair cut to last several weeks. After a week, I was wearing my hair in a pony tail again. I made an appointment at another salon to correct Ryanjacobie's top stylist's mediocre haircut. I could have gotten the same haircut at a lower-end salon in less time and at a fraction of the cost. Don't choose Davy. He is not worth $80. Maybe $20. He should be a student at the salon school he frequents instead of being an advisor. read more

If you want bad service and really bad cut, this is the place for you! I've read all the fantastic reviews, but, unless Ryan and the crew were having a bad day, I had one of the worst experiences ever in a salon. First of all, when I arrived at the salon, there were no one to been seen. The receptionist "popped" from the back room after a few minutes. We (my child and I) were asked to sit in the waiting area, which is not much of a waiting area. Secondly, when I made an appointment for the both of us, it was with Ryan. At the salon, I was told that another person, Deena, I believe, will take care of my child. My child had one of the worst haircuts ever!!! I could have done a better job and I don't cut hair!! I spent $20 on a haircut that looked like rats bites!! Absolutely horrendous!!! She didn't bother to ask me if I liked the HC or if there needs to be any adjusting. I had to ask her to make adjustments, but still didn't look any better. She just put on a whole bunch of goop on his hair to make it look "stylish." Never again!!! We went to another salon the next day (the HC absolutely bothered the hell out of me) and got a fantastic HC. Then there is my situation. It all started with the wash. I got a pretty decent massage with my shampoo. But, what really irked me was the fact that I got splashed in the face twice. First when Ryan turned-on the water to wet my hair (to start the shampoo). The pressure was to great, that the water bounced off the basin and splashed my face. The second time was after the shampoo. By the way, after the wash, he also wet the towel that was placed under my neck and wet my shirt on the left side. I digressed. After the shampoo, Ryan turned off the water and shook the water off his hands onto my forehead. My only reasoning for no apologies is because the shampoo area is so dark, the stylist can't really see what they are doing. I got no apologies! After sitting on his chair, Ryan began to confidently cut my hair. What he forgot to mention was how short he was going to cut my hair. During the consultation, there was no mention of how short he was going to cut. It didn't look anything like the picture I gave him. I'm a realistic person and don't expect exact duplication. But...... Luckily, I'm not too uptight about getting a short cut. Another no-no. After he cut my hair in the back, Ryan began to apply a styling gel and sprayed my hair. What he didn't realize was that he sprayed directly into my eyes. He only seemed to realized after I was blinking violently. No apology. He just asked if he had sprayed my eyes. Sheesh! O.k. o.k. so....when he was done with the cut, which he did not CROSSCHECK, it was obvious that the right and left side was totally uneven. I asked Ryan politely to fix the left side which was cut with less layering. He barely placed the cape back on and did a simple snip-snip. Again, no crosscheck!! I didn't want to ask him to fix my hair again before it got any worst. Lastly, after I paid for the bill ($55 for my HC - too much $$ for what I got) and gave a generous tip for both, Ryan began to tell me that he will give a free fix because he doesn't want me to go to another stylist to fix my hair??!!?? What?? Shouldn't he be saying I got a FABULOUS cut and hope I return. Its too bad things didn't work out for me. I was looking for a regular stylist who I could completely trust with my hair. Unfortunately, it's not Ryan. I wanted to give him one more chance, but, he blew it again. During the payment transaction, he asked if the phone number on the appointment book was correct and I told him it was. He said that he was going to call and ask if I still liked the cut. No call and its been over 2 weeks. Oh well....I guess he doesn't need new clients. read more

I hate to write this, but its been bothering me since I left. I called on a whim yesterday, superbowl sunday and they had an opening. My appointment was with Ashley and we discussed that i wanted an all over color. I had highlights and wanted something more low maintenance. We picked a nice ash brown color. As the color was processing I noticed it was turning a shade of orange. Fast forward as they take the towel off, I have 2 shades of color on my head. My roots are a nice shade of orange. They let me sit there for 20min before anyone got to me because another client had come in. They did their best to convince me that it was NOT orange. I went outside to check the color and it was even worse. The owner came over and did his best to fix it. I was there for a total of 5 hours. They offered my some free product as a thank you for my patience. I still had to pay $116.00 .I was so unhappy with the color and especially after my husband saw me and said, "Your hair doesnt look right",that I ran to walgreens and grabbed the first brown color box I could to take out some of the color. So now I am on the hunt for someone to fix this mess. Kudos to Ryan for trying to help the situation but it was a complete heart break to see what happened to my hair. read more
