Mie is the only person I allow to cut my hair because before I found her salon and just let anyone else do it - they made me want to self-isolate in my house and never go outside. My haircuts with Mie are always fun and the staff are always encouraging and give great advice on what hair would look good on your face and even adjusting styles to see what would look better! I always get my hair cut by her and she always does an amazing job. I'm always amazed at the precision and skill it takes to pull off the hair styles I want but she never fails to deliver. She also is so good about recommending styling product and heat tools to use if your hairstyle is high-maintenance. Mines is pretty high-maintenance but she always guides you on how to style yourself so that you look good every day not just after your hair appointment! Whenever I go to her I always like to go out because I love my hair LOL No isolating for me :P Their space is also very clean and aesthetic. Everyone is so nice and I always feel calm and have fun with everyone... But I also just love to yap so.. Love their nice mirror in the bathroom that I take selfies in. LOL read more

I've been looking for a stylist and stumbled across Namie Salon. I had hesitated because I only get my hair cut about once or twice a year, I like to keep it low maintenance. I eventually booked an appointment and it was with Namie, the owner. I went in not knowing what to expect. First off, the person who washes the hair (my apologies I don't know the correct term) was amazing. She was super friendly and asked if I wanted a beverage. The whole time she made sure if the water temp and pressure was ok. And the massage...so good. Namie then did a consultation to see what I wanted, which I didn't exactly know but she helped me through this process. I was upfront in that I don't get my hair cut often and she didn't make me feel bad. I feel she still gave me the same courtesy she would offer her regular clients. Namie is friendly and considerate. I asked about other services like straightening and coloring my whites. I told her I wasn't sure if I could maintain that but she still was so nice and explained in detail anyways. I will be back for my "regular" hair cuts. The space is very clean and really nice inside. read more

I've been here 2 times and Kaylin did my hair, the first visit I wanted a trim and I am so happy that she kept my hair style and refined the look. She's very talented and a great person to talk to. Having to refer friends to Mie I understand their reasonings for not continuing service with her salon. Too many change overs with workers that I too had to deal with being switched off to someone else to color and cut my hair. She got offended when I expressed and agreed that her salon was no longer working for me. Also be careful when purchasing shampoo from her. Her bottles are filled "partly" empty...and she got upset that I pointed it out. Sorry for a honest review. read more

So, this is my first haircut since the quarantine ban was lifted. I am so happy that I was able to get an appointment to cut my hair. My hair is long and really thick and it gets really hot. Anyway, I am thankful for the people who cancelled their reservations because I was able to come in way earlier than my original time. Because there is still a pandemic going on, the salon has implemented their safety measures. When you get to the salon you MUST call them to let them know you are there. I didn't know and I was about to enter. Luckily I stopped myself and saw the sign on the door. I was the only one there so they let me stand outside until my stylist was ready, which was about a minute or so. When you enter, they lock the door. The receptionist and stylist are donned with their safety glasses, face mask, another mask and gloves. My stylist, Vivian, was also wearing a smock. They ask you questions related to Covid and take your temperature. After you are asked those questions, you put your belongings in a locker and you have a key to hold on to. Then you have to wash your hands. After you are escorted to your chair. The place has been updated and shower curtains separate each chair, whether it's the styling chair or the chair to get your hair washed. There was another person who came after me, but she was farther away from me. I am very impressed with how the salon went to protect their customers and themselves. I wish they were able to open up earlier than everyone else during this pandemic. read more

Had a great first experience at Namie salon with Kaylin! They take appropriate precautions for covid that are all listed on the website so you know what to expect. The interior is beautiful and very clean. Each station is sectioned off by a curtain and all staff wear masks and face shields. It almost felt like I was in a hospital, but like a really nice hospital where they give haircuts lol. So the reason why I was here is that I had this epiphany moment. I realized since everyone's staying home, I might as well do something crazy with my hair cause who's even gonna see it?? For me, this meant a boy cut shorter than I've ever had my hair before. Kaylin was very receptive and she captured what I was going for based on some pictures I showed her. I had a nice talk with her but I appreciated that she wasn't super talkative since I'm not that kind of person either. I liked that she seemed just as excited about my haircut as I was! I was also really surprised by the price! My haircut was a lot cheaper than I expected at about $40. I think I've found my new go-to salon. This is really random but they have this vacuum that's built into the wall that just sucks up any hair that's swept into it. I thought it was really cool. read more

I really didn't want to share a review as it probably would attract more business. This salon is a hidden gem in kaimuki on the second floor of the Lafite building on waialae ave where the old Harry's music store once was. The salon is immaculate clean. There is a strict Covid protocol. You have to call at the time of your appointment and they will let you in. All staff wear masks and eye protection. They screen for Covid symptoms, check your temperature and make you wash your hands before seating you in the chair. There's also curtain barriers that separate the shower chairs and the stylists. I think there's only two chairs for hair stylists so the salon is tiny. Had the luxury of having Mie the owner/lead stylist cut my hair since my original appointment got cancelled because the stylist got injured. Unfortunately because of the salon's size and my schedule it did take a while to get an appointment for a cut, but the wait was well worth it. Brought in a pic of how I wanted my bangs and she textured and lightened the weight of my hair just in time for summer just like how I wanted it. Since it's been so long since my last trim I am going to have to tame my bangs and hair again but i already scheduled my next appointment again. read more

Awesome, amazing hair from Way!! She knows color, she knows texture, she knows style... she is a Hair Scientist! Ask her any question about hair and she will give you her answer - it is like her brain searches, flipping though pages in her brain, for your perfect answer from her hair encyclopedia of knowledge. For example, why some hair absorbs color better than others, or get damaged by over-color (which mine was). And if your hair is damaged, Way can make it healthy as fast as the first appointment! You are missing out if you do not book with her :) read more

I had my first appt. with Kaylin in September. I came in for a haircut but she had more time than we expected so I also got a full foil. She looks young but she's really a pro. Because she has graduated from Paul Mitchell I knew we would get along great. I loved the palmitch at Mitchell school and of course I buy a lot of their products. I'm not going to lie this place is not easy to find! Kaylin was nice enough to come downstairs and outside to show me the ramp up to their 2nd floor parking lot, its not obvious. It's a tiny salon with just a few chairs. I enjoyed the intimate setting but some people might find it claustrophobic. I'm not used to paying this much for my hair but wow, I look great! I've been getting a lot of compliments. I definitely recommend this salon. It's cool that it's in my neighborhood of Kaimuki. I definitely recommend this place and in fact I'm going back next week. read more

Nicely decorated salon with wonderfully kind and uplifting staff. Had my hair cut yesterday and loved the total experience. From start to finish I felt like I was able to express all my ideas and concerns and best of all I was heard. While it is only hair and it will indeed grow back, it is nice to feel like everyone was listening to me. The washing stations were the most comfortable washing stations I have ever had my hair washed in. The wash was not rushed and there was a nice massage as well. I was able to ask questions and was shown some techniques. While products being used were explained, I really liked that they were never pushy into selling the products. They even touched up my makeup at the end. I truly felt pampered! I have already recommended this salon to someone and will continue to do so! read more

I walked into the salon yesterday for my regular appointment with Mie (she's been my stylist now for over 20 years!) and came upon their newly remodeled and updated renovation! With Mie's artistic eye and Tim's skill and ability, they came up with an absolutely beautiful renovation to the salon. Typical of Mie, attention to detail is immediately evident! A new room was added to accommodate Leah, their new brow stylist! If you have ever had your brows waxed before, you have to set up an appointment with Leah! She is so careful and skilled. Just by the way she does the waxing, I knew that she had a lot of experience. She took such care in every step she made! I have very sensitive skin and she knew just what to do. She even told me where the eyebrow should begin and end and where the arch should be. Then she showed me how to fill them in. Although I was already going to someone that I felt was very caring and competent in brow waxing, Leah provides brow waxing at a whole new level! I got the worst phone call a person could ever get. I got a call from Marsha Nadalin Salon telling me that Mie no longer works there! I was in a state of shock. I don't want to look for someone else to do my hair. it's got to be Mie. I went into full stalker mode on Google trying to find her. Luckily I found her web site for her new salon and all was right in the world. Mie is an excellent stylist even if you are a semi balding dude like me. Her new spa is cute with good parking right next to Town restaurant off of Waialae Ave. Google maps sent me to some weird location so just look for Town restaurant. I have been getting my haircut by mie for 7 years now and over those many years I have changed my hairstyle countless times. I've only been able to change my hair so many times because some how mie is able to make any style I show her look great on my head and continue to look as good throughout the weeks between my appointments. She is a true professional and the only stylist I trust the maintenance of my follicles to. As for the salon itself. The walls are sleek and stylish and give off a cleaner vibe than most salons. You are met by a friendly receptionist, who offers you beverages and promptly informs mie of your arrival. In order to devote her full attention to your appointment she will only have one or no other customers present at the same time, which really makes the ambience of the salon much less hectic than it's counterparts. I have been going to Mie to get my hair cut for over 15 years. When my kids were in high school and needed that perfect haircut, I took them to her as well. I was very happy to follow her from her old salon to her new salon. She is extremely experienced, will give you the cut that you want (unlike some haircutters who give you the cut that they would like to see you have), and is a very pleasant person to work with. The building is centrally located on a busy street in Kaimuki, and has its own parking on a ramp to the second floor. The shop is a little hard to find as it is on the second floor too, and there is no entrance from the street - you have to go up the ramp and around the back. read more

I've been going to Mie since the mid 2000's and I've never had a cut or color I didn't love. In fact, I trust Mie's talent, experience, knowledge, and intuition so much so that I ask her for a change in style or color, and leave the decision up to her. I also love the fact that she and her team are constantly getting trained on the latest styles and techniques. It's reassuring to know that they're not stuck in outdated styles and products. I also enjoy trying different hair products based on new inventory that they bring in and you can stock up when they offer sales. I have and would recommend Mie (and Vivian, Kaylin, and Chayla) to anyone I know, even though that would mean they'd be that much busier with new clientele, and that's simply because I love them THAT MUCH and they are so worth the prices they charge (I actually have no idea how much other salons charge for their services because I've never needed or wanted to go anywhere else). P.S. The head massages are one of the best parts of my appointments. I look forward to them just as much as my cut and color. read more

First time I walked in Namie Salon, I fell in love immediately. It is a clean and modern, but small. Everyone is so friendly. I had Vivian as my colorist. She does my root touch up. I never got a cut here. She did my hair for about 4 months, and I was very happy with the color. My natural color was dark, but since I have tons of grey, I have always ask to lift the color to dark brown. After 4-5 months, one time I needed an emergency fix before a trip. Vivian couldn't take me, so one of their assistants did my color. That was a big mistake but I did not realize it right away. I came back to Vivian again the next time. But the time after that, I got the assistant again. I was going on a trip next and had to get my hair done in Cali. The hair colorist there was shocked to see 3 shades of colors from my last treatments done by Namie Salon. I couldn't believe it. I believe everyone here at Namie is professional, but now left me afraid to return. If you are getting your color done, make sure to stick with only 1 colorist! read more

Luxurious experience at Namie Salon from the first phone call to the moment I left. Everyone at the salon is so courteous and kind and the salon is beautiful and calming. I felt like I got an emotional boost and not just a haircut! I made an appt earlier in the week for a haircut with Kaylin on Saturday, and paid extra to get my hair curled as we were doing my maternity shoot that afternoon. The salon is beautiful and calming, and Kaylin was not only friendly and professional but also really cared that she cut my hair exactly how I would want it (rather than doing whatever she thinks is best, which some other hair dressers have done!) Kaylin gave the best scalp massage, which made the shampooing feel so wonderful! She works very carefully and methodically, so this is not the place to go if you like to rush in and out for your haircuts. But for me, getting my haircut is a treat, so I love being pampered and having a calm and relaxing experience, and Namie Salon was perfect for this. I also loved how encouraging the other stylists were, telling Kaylin how nicely the cut was coming out and complementing me too and wishing me well for my photoshoot and with my baby. The curls came out perfectly for my photoshoot and lasted all evening! I even had some curl for the next couple of days. I will also note that I found the pricing to be quite reasonable for a high end experience, and I loved that there was parking in the lot right in front of the salon. Much like Jim I got a phone call and voice mail from Marsha Nadalin, where Mie used to work, saying she was no longer there. Mie has been cutting my hair for 17 years and is not only a wonderful stylist but a really nice person and I declined the 50% discount offer from Marsha Nadalin Salon to stay there with a new stylist because Mie is too good, and is someone I look forward to spending 30 minutes with every month. Her new place is right in the Lafitte Building on Wai'alae Ave near Town and Brew'd on the 2nd floor. It's great that she started her own salon and I'll totally support her. read more

I have been going to Mie for 7 years and from my very first visit she was able to match my base color and highlights (that I was having done in Los Angeles from the same stylist for years). My hair was dry like straw and after going to Mie my hair is so healthy. Mie, Way and Vivian are such great stylist. I always tell Mie she is the artist just highlight what she thinks would look great and my cuts are out of this world. I finally decided to cut my short and love my cut. People would actually stop me to tell how they love my hair; color and cut. I was doing my healing gardens at the Blaisdell once and some actually said she just had to stop by my booth NOT to look at my plants but to let me know how much she just loved my hair. Emma makes you feel warm and welcome from the moment you step in and any one of the stylists (Mie, Viv, and Way) will do quality work. I have been going to Mie since I was pregnant with my daughter. She is now soon to be 16 and loves going to her too. We have recently moved out of state but every year we return for the summer, I always make an appointment to have our hair done by Mie. I have lived in Canada and Texas and have been to numerous stylists trying to find someone like Mie with such great creativity and technique but it is hard to come by. I have gone to big named salons and haven't found anyone with her amazing skills and vision. Not only is Mie a master artist, she is so personable and sweet! Every time I sit in the chair we talk about what I'd like to have done, she always listens and confirms what she's interpreted. She doesn't just go scissor crazy. Sometimes I bring her pictures, sometimes I only know what I don't want (which I'm sure can be a stylists nightmare), and since she's gotten to know my "style", more times than not I just tell her to do her own thing which is always amazing. I feel hairstyles are like a wonderful accessory that you can have fun with, after all, it does grow back. I used to love going to Mie regularly. Every appointment was a new me. I'd grow it, chop it, grow it, color it, perm it...always surprised with her never ending creativity in styling. I always got compliments on my new styles.
