Very disappointing experience. I paid $600 for a haircut and Japanese hair straightening, expecting sleek, pin-straight results. Instead, after just one wash--despite carefully following all aftercare instructions--my hair was still wavy. I contacted the salon with photos to express my concerns, but they declined a partial refund and instead asked me to return for an assessment. After this level of service, I'm not willing to waste any more time. For a high-end treatment at this price, results should speak for themselves. I knew that only one Stylist would do me right, so I scheduled an appt when I would be in Honolulu for the Marathon (I ran the 10K). It only took 38 years and my complete trust in Thi's expertise to chop off my hair! He understood the assignment: chop off my hair and let me embrace my grays. So he chopped it and put the highlights in so once the grays grow out- I'll have an easy transition for the next 50years! I have gotten so many compliments over the past month- and although I will struggle to find someone here to maintain Thi's work on my new short hairdo here in California- (both Bay areas, San Francisco & San Diego) I am excited to keep it short for a while. THE WORST SALON DO NOT GO HERE. Overcharged for color service, Jeff the Stylist took over 6 hours and repeatedly left the salon leaving my daughter sitting alone. The end result was nothing like we asked and the charged us over $600! We had to go to another salon to repair the damage. I contacted the salon and spoke with THI who repeatedly promised a refund back in June 2023. It is now March 2024 and still no refund. They continually LIE and LIE and refuse to refund me. This salon has been around for a long time. I needed a last minute blow out and they had an opening with Jeff. He was very sweet and did a nice deep conditioning treatment on my hair. He also styled my hair. It came out nice. This was my first time at their new location on kamakee. I used to frequent the salon when they were located in Ala Moana Center. I saw Katie and then when she moved away, I saw Thi. He is the owner and a very well known stylist. He is amazing! I am going to see Jeff for my color and do balayage in about another week. She was simultaneously treating a woman's hair but that is just a lot of waiting so she was able to cut my hair during the waits and even shampood and styled. She used a razor to thin out my helmet hair and evened out both sides of my cut. Her fade skills are pretty amazing and shes a very nice person. I've always had an issue with dry hair since I blow dry nearly everyday and she was not pushy at all in helping me to purchase a kerastase product that I'll help keep my hair healthy. Called to schedule a keratin treatment and was quoted $350. The girl over the phone also said thats what i paid for previous keratin treatments at their salon. When the app was done, my total came out to a little over $500, and apparently, i got charged for a treatment during a wash. Wish i was told the price and if I wanted to add it to my service or not beforehand. This is actually a difficult review to post, but necessary nevertheless. I have been seeing this hair stylist off and on since I met them at the Aveda salon. Hands down the best stylist I have ever had. At my age I thought I would stay with him until he no longer worked. That is until two weeks ago. I had long hair. Past my bra strap. I asked for layers and my hair to be cut mid chest at the longest point. My chair wasn't facing the mirror when he cut most of my hair off. My bangs which were almost to my collar bone were cut off to about my eyebrows. When he finished I cried in my car. I contacted him via text and was apologized to and that was it. I paid $160 for a haircut I absolute hate and can't style. He gave me a shag cut that comes to my shoulders. Nothing I asked for. It was as if he ignored everything I said, got distracted and did the cut he wanted. I was never offered a solution or any of my money back. Needless to say I will be looking for a new stylist. Hair grows, I get that. But hair grows slower when it's bad. read more

This is a review just for Jeff the hairstylist I was going to for my past 2 looks. Overall I'll give him 3 stars. Really friendly & nice! Always makes me feel comfortable! In terms of hair style, the first time I went for a consultation I showed him what I wanted and it was from his IG page. He quoted me something like $250 or $280 or $300 something - at this point I can't remember... I know I paid $425 (I think it came out to $380 and I added tip). Honestly though this first one wasn't bad because I showed him a pic he recently did so of course he just re did the steps of how he did it. I loved it and that's why I gave him a good tip. When it faded, it faded sooooo nicely I got more compliments of it faded than when I just got it done. Honestly it wasn't something different which I was bummed about because it looked exactly like how my hair was, just with a toner refresh and the color was higher. He did a balayage ash blonde silver color and it's what I wanted so that was great! The next time I went to him was for my birthday. I got a picture off of Pinterest to show him the idea of what I wanted. I definitely wanted to go lighter and after looking at the picture he said this is probably the lightest I'll go with you. I said ok and we did it. Honestly it didn't come out how I wanted and I didn't have the heart to say it because I was over being there. I knew after that I wasn't going to be back. Maybe there was a miscommunication but I wanted my whole head colored. Not just the a balayage!!!!!! I looked so dumb after that because I understand they highlight the hair pieces around the face to frame it but it was not cute sis! That was the blondest part of my hair and it just didn't look right when I split my hair down the middle. Also, it may have looked nice styled but when you stick your finger in random places and lift the hair up, it's like he could care less of where he was placing the foil to color the hair. Also there was no blend from the base to the start of the Balyage so they definitely looked like highlights. Now my hair is grown out more but it's still ugly!!! I didn't even ask for a quote and that was my bad because I ended up paying $500 for it in the end. However, if you're looking for someone that can cut hair and do his own hair coloring (look at his IG) I'd recommend him. BUT if you're looking for someone that is a colorist and knows how to get what you want from random picture sources, he is not your guy! read more

After many many MONTHS of discussing my hair with Emi H she finally convinced me to "woman up" and go to see Kihan at W salon. I entered the salon timidly (it's full of beautiful, well-groomed, and well dressed people) and as soon as Kihan looked over he smiled and said "you must be Cathy." Emi had told him about how nervous I was coming in and he instantly put me at ease by saying "let just sit for a minute and talk about your hair." (Ladies, if your boyfriend ever says these words to you...Marry him ASAP.) After I changed into a smock and had my hair shampooed Kihan had me stand behind his chair with him and show him what length I'd be comfortable with. I mumbled something about collarbone length and he explained to me that sometimes because of the way your hair flips this can make your face appear wider. That's totally not ok with me so we agree to cut it a little longer. As he cut Kihan explained so many things to me about my hair. Because my hair is super crazy baby fine and thin he used an analogy that my hair is like the most delicate silk and that I should treat it gently when washing and styling it. He also explained every step of what he was doing and why as he blow-dried, styled, and flat ironed my hair. I left the salon feeling like a completely different person. Kihan's energy and advice still buzzed inside my head as I took the requisite selfie to post on my instagram. Everyone (INCLUDING my mother...and trust me that's saying something!) loves my new haircut. It does take a little getting used to all this attention but I think I can deal with that. If I could give this salon 0 stars I would. The experience that I have received from them from start to finish was absolutely horrendous. It all started with me wanting to set up an appointment for a hair cut and they call me back an hour before saying they double booked me and would have to set a different appointment. Fine, I'll take another appointment but in the time I found my stylist who does cuts at another salon so I cancel and go with her. I need a color and my stylist only does cuts in her salon or I would have gone to her but I decided to try this salon out. I call in specifically asking for someone who is experienced in color. I went to beauty school myself so I am very particular. Four hours of my time was spent at this salon and my hair came out atrocious. It was not anything that I had asked for and completely brassy. I called in because I had paid $400 to get it done and I'm so upset I don't want it to be fixed, I can go ahead and go buy the color and color over it. I call into the salon and they tell me that they don't do refunds unless they have tried to fix it. Why would I return to a salon that just messed my hair up?! And when did I sign a release form stating that if they messed up my hair that they would not refund me my money? I didn't! I spoke to a manager and she cut me off while I was trying to speak to her and kept saying that it had to be fixed and when I asked her not to cut me off she was silent and then when I paused asked me "are you done now? Can I speak?" I have seriously never been so upset with a service that I have had to even write a bad review, but this salon treats their customers with no respect and they have incompetent stylists. I told him everything and how disappointed I am and not wanting to go back to their salon anymore. He was so great when he offered me a FULL REFUND of what I paid including the GRATUITY! And not just that... They gave me 6 MONTHS of FREE HAIR TREATMENT to fix my damaged hair! I just have to call them to make my appointment and the owner of the salon will do the treatment to make sure I will get a great service. I am so happy with their response and I greatly appreciate the effort they made for their customers. The situation: I had balayaged my hair at another salon and my ends were completely fried!! I knew exactly who to call with my hairmergency. Yes, there is Jesus but for this, I called upon my Hair Savior...KIHAN. I arrived for my appointment feeling so bummed about the current condition of my hair. Letting my ponytail loose, I immediately apologized to him for the tragedy. He analyzed the damage and told me exactly what I needed. A modern shag (and a color change). I couldn't get the color done yet, so this review is on my cut. Having done my hair with Kihan before, I definitely knew the magic that was about to happen. But, I must say that I find myself constantly amazed at how truly gifted he really is. I "died" (the term I use when I'm absolutely blown away) a billion times while he was flipping his scissors and working through my thick mane. I must have said, "oh my God!" a hundred times while in the chair. I'm totally serious, he's the true definition of an artist. What he is able to do with a crappy mane is flipping INCREDIBLE! When it comes to my hair it has to be treated with care OR I will go on Yelp and tell everybody. Just kidding! But in seriousness, I do love my hair! I have been known to cry about a bad hair cut. I was a bit hesitant about finding a new hair stylist, since I've stuck with the same person for years. How do I know this new person will be good for me and my hair? Its like a first date all over again! My usual gal was staying in Maui for good now with very limited travels to Oahu, so I'm now forced to go out and find another. I came across the W Salon and have heard mixed reviews. In my personal experience so far, I have found that Lynn is AHHHMAZING and delivers beyond my expectations. My first time to her, she did a balayage of red and it left me feeling broke, about $400 broke, but damn, I had pretty hair!! So yes, it can get pricey. Depending on what you want and how fancy you're gonna get. A haircut will be comparable to other salons out there at $50 for a women's haircut. I do recommend getting the deep moisturizing conditioner when cutting your hair, it's worth it! My 4-stars is mainly due to their new salon/ spa services that they started this year. I wanted to get a quick mani/pedi service and it wasn't impressed. My appointment was at 12pm. I arrived at 11:45am and walked in with two ladies speaking out in front (wait, I know, that's no big deal, hold on). I check in and wait. 12pm rolls around and I'm still waiting. No biggie, I have some time. Although I did mention that I will need to be at work in an hour and a half. At this time, I am getting a bit concerned, especially right at that point I hear one of the ladies say, that she has to get started. Wait a minute, I hope this isn't my lady!!!! To my dismay, she comes back and gets me. Oh boy, at this time it's 1215pm and I am a bit worried. She sits me down and gets started. I got my Kerastase deep conditioning and hair cut today by Koichi. He just moved here from NYC 6 months ago and has been doing hair for alomost 20 years. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I actually went in as a walk-in with my sweet Lucie(pet pup)...didnt think they would take me, but they were very welcoming bc they had availability. I was so ecstatic bc it's the holidays and I was badly in need of a cut. I was kind of embarrassed bc I really didnt think they would take me, so I went with goupy, oily head over a baseball hat. I let the stylist, Koichi, know, and he was very nice and polite about it. He said they would wash it anyways. Made me feel 'not so embarrassed'. A good start already... He washed and deep conditioned my hair...gave me a nice, soft scalp massage...while the conditioner was doing its magic, Koichi gave me a little hand massage. It was nice. I especially enjoyed the fact they let my Lucie sit on my lap the whole time while I was getting my service. She runs me *sigh* I brought in a few pictures so we could see eye to eye on exactly what I wanted. He was very understanding and helpful. He really communicated with me, so I would be pleased with the results. After my cut, he blow dried, and even curled my hair exactly the style of the picture I brought in as my ideal look. Wow~this guy is fantastic! He gave me the exact cut/look I wanted without trying to push his own 'vision'.-sometimes stylists do that. sigh I was very pleased with the end results. It helps to bring in many pictures of what u want and what you DONT want. *communicate* He didnt push any products...just recommended a leave-in conditioner, and left it at that...So, I had to buy it! ^^" I used a playhawaii certificate, which I paid $75. Regular price is $150? It was for a deep conditioning and master haircut. I tipped him $30 *20% of the regular price* I asked him what his haircut costs and he said $70, so I would definitely go to him again. It costs $60 to cut my Lucie's hair every month, I think I can spend $70 on my own hair. hehe The leave in conditioner by Kerastase was around $38 ^^ Oh!!!...and all the staff was very sweet to my Lucie. It helps that she's cute. I was just worried that it might bother other patrons, but everyone in Hawaii has such aloha spirit. No one said anything negative. Some stylists even came to pet her. I'm the type of guy that used to go to cheaper, nationally branded shops to get my hair done... That is until I got my hair cut by Amy K. I really loved the quality and attention to detail she gives for each appointment. I haven't ever considered going back to the other places since my first cut here. I also appreciate the offer for water from the staff if I show up early. I usually park at whole foods and walk over. Maybe grab a bite to eat after my appointment. read more

After having my hair chopped and chunked from Salon Blanc and numerous other salons- I've finally found a salon that consistently gave me great haircuts and hair coloring. Exactly what I expect in service and quality. I've worked with Lynn (coloring) and Jennifer and Julie for cutting.
