We started with the corn beef soup I believe it was called. It was so good. A nice, thick, hot soup on a cold evening. I loved the Brady Bunch Tacos! 3 nice size toasty tortillas with cheese, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, delicious seasoned beef. I liked that they put the cheese on the bottom because that's exactly how I make mine. The salsa was fresh and delicious and I also got sour cream. I don't know if that was extra. You have to have sour cream with tacos. My friend got a Reuben with onion rings for the side. It came with a nice sized dill pickle. She shared her onion rings and they were very good. They were meaty and crunchy. She said the sandwich was delicious. Between us we had enough leftover to take and feed my nephew who lives nearby and I'm sure didn't mind a surprise drop in from his aunt. As long as you have food right? This place is huge and a popular spot near downtown Troy. I went on a weeknight and it had a pretty good crowd. There are two nice size dining rooms with full bars. They even have live entertainment there sometimes. Our server, who was also the bartender, was amazing. He was excited to talk about this place which neither one of us had ever been to. One of the best attractions of Ryan's Wake has to be it's covered outdoor deck. Its spaciousness and view of the Hudson River are definitely major pluses in attracting customers. However, the attractiveness of the old style bar inside with dark woodwork and what I believe may be a tin ceiling, gives a warm welcoming feeling if you prefer to be indoors. We had a party of nine. Staff were happy to move tables around on the deck to accommodate all of us. Staff were very helpful and friendly throughout the two hours we were there. Judging from the reaction of our group, I believe everyone was pleased with their food and beverages. Some of the group ordered larger items on the menu, e.g., Chicken Teriyaki Dinner ($15), while others simply ordered an appetizer, e.g., Calamari ($12). With my Guinness ($7) I had the Bacon Blue Burger ($15) with optional Onion Rings ($3) as a sub for chips. I ate all the Rings first while they were hot and was pleased with the quality and flavor. The burger I found to be on the dry side. I don't think it was dry due to any lack of house-made blue cheese dressing (which did not have enough blue cheese flavor for my liking), but I think it was the sesame bun with its stiffness. Even the caramelized onions couldn't offset the dryness of the bun. My wife said her Calamari was overcooked. This is a pleasant enough place that I can envision some of our group occasionally returning. read more

We were in Troy for a Friday evening wedding and after an exciting morning of a car wash and Walgreens shopping we needed a bite to eat. Walked across the street from the motel but found that place closed till later afternoon. Looked across the other street and decided to go to Ryan's Wake. Walked in and fell in love with the place and loved it more upon hearing their history, especially about the beautiful bar back. I didn't want to eat too much as the wedding was just a few hours away so I ordered the special mushroom soup and cup of chili while my wife had the world's best Reuben. OMG The mushroom soup was outstanding and fortunately they were out of chili as there's no way my wife could eat that Reuben by herself. It was huge and delicious. Got to know John the bartender very well as well as all the other staff and the owner, Chris who even walked us to our car. What a great place with very special staff and excellent food. At 7 o'clock on a Saturday night they were already pretty busy which is mind blowing but I completely understand why. We kickstarted the night with a cranberry apple Moscow mule and a Jameson Manhattan. Both were made to perfection and we were able to witness the amount of love they made our drinks with all the way down to the presentation. I had made an online reservation request for a party of 8 on Fri. And had a very prompt response, one hour, from Emily to confirm our reservation. When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess - tall, dark hair young woman who I failed to get her name. I had asked her if she was Emily b/c I wanted to thank her for the reservation. She said no but later she introduced us to Emily because she said that everybody likes to be recognized for their good service. Sweet. Our table was set with menus. Our server was J.J. (Justin) who took the drink orders. One of our party knew J.J., as he was a customer at his Stewart's Shop. The final two of our party arrived and we ordered our meals. Apps up first - bacon ranch fries ($12) enough for 4, bbq chicken dusters (tenders) ($12), and a "Not Too Many" (7) shrimp cocktail ($12). NOTE: the "Way Too Many" is 14 for $20. Whatta Deal! Dinners were: bacon blue burger ($15), Chicken Quesadilla ($15), two of the "Best Reuben You Ever Had" corned beef w/ requested mustard instead of Russian dressing w/ fries ($15). Nailed it. A Kickin' chicken sandwich (ala Nashville( ($13) - chix thigh crunchy outside, moist & tender inside.And two "Quintessence" chicken teriyaki dinners w/ cold spinach noodles & side Parisian salad w/ pickled veg ($15). Yes this is a stunningly beautiful bar, original tin ceilings, converted gas lights but they have made the choice to not let patrons sit at the bar and even worse, they immediately turned down the jukebox after I started playing songs so low that you can't hear all because father and daughter owners at the bar don't like the song played. Uggh!!! And the Mac and Cheese is made with thin cheese sauce, not actual cheese- weak! One shining star was the pulled pork which was perfect. We had our engagement party here. We were lucky to be able to reserve the River Bar. Jared did an amazing job helping us plan the event. He suggested a date where live music was playing which made our party even better. He worked with us to create a food menu and gave us awesome feedback on how much to order based upon our party size. The rest of the staff that served our party was wonderful. The drinks and food were delicious. The staff made sure the food was staying hot throughout the party and they even helped us box up all of our gifts at the end of the night. They did everything to make sure we had a memorable night. This is such a great place! The food is awesome. Originally came here because it's the food from the old quintessants ( spelling?) diner that I grew up with! Teriyaki chicken skewers , salad and spinach fettuccine. It's so good! The bar is really cute and definitely has the "Ireland" vibe. There's a huge outdoor deck on back overlooking the river too. Very very pretty. The wait was long for outdoor seating but we got right into the bar. Drinks were yummy. I had a Paloma which was very good. It is interesting/disappointing to note that in today's age a manager of a restaurant does not know the law regarding service dogs, having him just refuse service to me. I am just as annoyed by his absolutely rude behavior in doing so. It was embarrassing, not just illegal. Ryan's wake is close to a lot of stuff and has a great view of the river from the deck. Food took a little bit to come out but that wasn't really a concern. I had the bacon blue burger witch can with a hefty amount of sautéed onions good bacon and a lot of blue cheese sauce. The sauce was very good may have been homemade. The Korean bbq chicken dusters were a hit and the shrimp cocktail tasted fresh. The shrimp tocos were good but 70% cabbage. It was a great casual eatery with good scenery. Would recommend. read more

Stopped by here while I was spending the day in Troy for business. The atmosphere was really cool, had the nice bar feel, but not a dive bar feel. The gentlemen behind the bar was very friendly, always attentive, cleaned my spill up right away and also refilled my drink before it was empty which was nice. My cousin and I had a burger with sweet potato fries and we were both impressed. We are both from NYC so we've ate at many great burgers spots and this one held up very well. Meat was tasty, cooked right, bread and toppings were fresh. The sweet potatoes fries were the BOMB!! Overall enjoyed our entire experience here and would come again if we were in the area. I love Ryan's Wake! Not to be confused with a funeral wake, this place really make a big splash (pun intended)! They have amazing food, great drink and cocktail options, and has really nice outdoor seating area for the warm months. I love the Irish pub feel on the inside and can't wait to see how the new addition looks when they open up again after the Pandemic. I defiantly recommend the burgers but the sandwiches are bangen also! And they have those good fries... ur know, the seasoned crispy ones that everyone knows are the best! But my favorite meal has to be the Chicken Teriyaki Dinner on page 1 of the menu. It's a local favorite. I don't think u will be disappointed there! read more

I really enjoy coming to Ryan's Wake, granted... I do avoid peak times/days just due to some personal health challenges w/in our family. Not any fault w/the health or cleanliness of the establishment, but I can't say how service w/b at those times. Again, just perspective on my personal observations. Food has been great, we really love the teriyaki, and order it almost every time. Last time we went w/a friend who had a young child. We ordered a cheeseburger for him, we'll done (he's under 5) it arrived too pink in the middle. He ate the well parts & seemed to enjoy it. Only other issue is the music is really very loud for dinner service indoors at 6pm on a Wednesday. I hear a lot of great things about Ryan's wake, the restaurant is located on the river with a very large , recently expanded patio that is lovely. The staff is was very friendly and relatively attentive considering they were obviously understaffed. But the food was just ok. I got a dark and stormy cocktail and it was really not good. I'm not sure if it was the quality of the liquor. I was shocked by the lack of options on their menu. They really had only 2-3 full meal options and the rest was finger food. We ordered the shrimp tacos, pretzel and onion rings to share. Shrimp tacos were excellent, the pretzel was very oily but okay. The onion rings were fine and came with blue cheese which is odd but honestly was pretty good. I would give this place a try for lunch or maybe a snack with a friend I'm just not sold on it being a good dinner spot. read more
