I hear a lot of great things about Ryan's wake, the restaurant is located on the river with a very large , recently expanded patio that is lovely. The staff is was very friendly and relatively attentive considering they were obviously understaffed. But the food was just ok. I got a dark and stormy cocktail and it was really not good. I'm not sure if it was the quality of the liquor. I was shocked by the lack of options on their menu. They really had only 2-3 full meal options and the rest was finger food. We ordered the shrimp tacos, pretzel and onion rings to share. Shrimp tacos were excellent, the pretzel was very oily but okay. The onion rings were fine and came with blue cheese which is odd but honestly was pretty good. I would give this place a try for lunch or maybe a snack with a friend I'm just not sold on it being a good dinner spot. read more

Solid Irish pub. Spacious, old world dark wood & ornate tin ceiling. Sketchy area that's on an up swing w many new spots opening. But I feel safe here w all the retired detectives & cops stopping off after their shift ends. Great friendly service. Open kitchen. Average pub fair menu options w daily specials. There is a great deck off the back overlooking the river. Fair beer selection. I had the Blue Point lager which was perfect w the hot wings. The wings were cooked perfectly was slight crunch, decent spice, fair amount of sauce/ratio to wings & overall I liked the wings but detected a strange underlying spice I could not identify (either could my 2 friends) which was slightly off. Great blue cheese that was thick & peppered w blue cheese chunks & crispy crunchy fresh celery & carrot sticks. My friend loved her Beef on Weck w the traditional special roll & ultra tender rare roast beef & side of au ju. Music needs some revisiting. Immaculate through & through. read more

I really like this place. I've been a few times. The first time we were greeted at the back entrance by a man who was probably the owner or the manager. He was really friendly and told us we had the option of sitting inside or outside. We chose the former and he jokingly said that we would add some class to the place. When we left later, he remembered us and said with a smile,"See, I said you bring some class." The bartenders are always on their game and you usually don't have to wait long to order -- even when it's busy. I've not yet ordered food here, so I have no input on that. For decor/atmosphere, it's a fun Irish pub. I've always found the patrons to treat everyone as friends, even if meeting for the first time. I really wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood. read more

This is my favorite bar on the strip in Troy and here is why: 1) cider on tap, yes it's angry orchard but cider on tap tastes that much better and while your ordering ask for a shot of vanilla vodka in it (believe me it won't let you down) 2) the bartenders- who doesn't love to sit at a bar where the bartenders remember your name and your drink? Well this is the place for that. 3) live music- it's on occasion on friday and Saturday nights 4) patio - with bar over looking the river 5) good drunk food- a ruben? A hot dog? I've been to Ryan's wake a good bunch of times over the years and have slowly been there less and less. It used to be a great spot to meet up with local friends and people I went to high school with - but it began to always be that way and wasn't a very exciting venue for the same people you see time and time again. More of a personal preference for me going than the actual place itself. About the place itself, they have a wide variety of drinks and fully stocked bar - they do a pretty good job. Not the biggest fan of the space however.. If it isn't nice outside there isn't a whole lot of room to relax or sit, especially as the night rolls on. It is a great location next to some other great bars and a nice place to start the evening if you plan on bar hoping through Troy though. Not a bad place to check out if you haven't yet! read more

Went here for the first time for dinner and a beer. Beer selection was good. Great atmosphere in the pub and outside. Food was mediocre at best. We had a burger, wings, and nachos. Burger was good, nothing special. The hot wings were barely spicy and the nachos reminded us of ballpark nachos with cheap cheese sauce just poured on top. Staff was very nice but they seemed to be understaffed so service was slow. We did not like the fact that people are allowed to smoke outside in the same area where food is being served. You'll need to eat inside if you don't want to deal with cigarette smoke. This place appears to be a great place to go hangout and drink with friends but I don't plan on going back for a meal. read more

This stretch by the river has really developed into a mini-cosmos of social drinking, although the Ruck always will have the most character. This is a good addition to the drinking establishments in Troy, and I know I'm a little late on reviewing it so saying it's an "addition" when it's already been here a while might sound snobby and ill-informed, Troy could use a little more leverage in their social scene as they continue to really make it over and put a nice spin on it. Right down by the river as you come in is always a good spot, and the RPI and Rusell Sagers are a stone's throw from it. The bar could actually use even more room despite it being one of the longest spaces I've seen, it just never ends really until you get to the back porch which I would love to see in warmer weather during an afternoon. You have the obligatory people you knew from high school and a fair amount of knuckleheads and brosephs but most people are on their best behavior even though it doesn't feel like the friendliest place. The darts and light wood finishes plus a strong amount of light give it a great pub feel, although if they cut the music they could really get an authentic and raucous place going. It's rightfully crowded, skews younger although with the ID scanner you're not going to get underage kids here, so everyone here has a right to be, and if they vomit, well, vomiting legally is a great spectacle. Definitely would stop by anytime I'm back in Troy. read more

Our waitress was AMAZING! She took care of us like we were family. I don't normally do this, but this is the third time straight we have been here and the receptionist (Carrie-with maybe some died green hair) had been so rude to us. She rolls her eyes, she tells us we are rude for asking for an extra chair, she spoke badly about us to the table next to us, and she doesn't make us feel welcome or comfortable here. She is the first person we see when we come in, if it was a one time thing that would be fine, but this is consistent and is beginning to feel like we are not allowed to even express what we want in our own dining experience. read more

This place is gorgeous. Knowing that it only opened in 2005 is hard to believe. The bar itself is an antique--the silvering of the back mirrors slightly flaking away. It's over 100-years-old and absolutely perfect. The rest of the space is filled with delicate woodwork that recalls an old Catholic church. Tin ceilings. Light fixtures that look like gas lamps. Even the men's bathroom has antique urinals... giant porcelain beasts that stretch from mid-chest all the way to the floor. The bartenders are all great. The selection on tap is a healthy mixture. The outdoor seating is perfect for a summer afternoon. If River Street had a little more foot traffic, then the window seats would be in high demand. The only thing that doesn't mix about the interior are the electronic dartboards. For a bar with such a classic style these things clash a bit. Some sisal dartboards and chalk boards to go along with them would be great. Don't miss the autographed photograph of Shane McGowan behind the jukebox. And there's always $2 pints of Utica Club. You've got to love a bar that does that. read more

This is my least favorite bar in the Troy area. It's always way too crowded and the crowd itself usually consists of scantily clad snobs and meatheads. Not somewhere I would recommend if you're looking for an intelligent conversation or to meet someone nice. I'm also not a fan of the bartenders that serve you your way overpriced drinks, they aren't very personable and not as nice as some of the other bartenders in the area. On the bright side, they have a patio out back that during the summer has a separate bar which makes getting drinks a bit easier and they always have a good selection of beer on tap. Parking is usually pretty easy due to the huge parking lot in the back, or you can park on the street if you can find a space. All in all it's an okay bar, but I feel there are much better places in Troy to spend a night out. I'd recommend Brown's Taproom or The Ruck before stooping to this place. read more

Ryan's Wake is always on my list whenever I visit central NY. It's a classic Irish pub with a super authentic attention to detail. The bar and back bar seem like they belong to a different era. It's a comfortable place to knock back a Guinness or Utica Club and the deck overlooking the Hudson makes it all come together on a summer night. Usually I stop in here for a pint or two but on my last visit, I tried one of their cheeseburgers. I was surprised with the quality of their food. ryan's wake is a pretty good bar in troy. i've been here multiple times in different settings: very crowded, "let's get drunk" nights chill "we're so early we're the only ones in the bar" nights "wow we can actually find/get a table outside" nights each time has been enjoyable. whenever i go, i usually end up seeing blasts from the pasts. can't get away from running into people you know t ryan's. you can park down the street in the lot or on the street itself. whichever you prefer. the bartenders are very nice and keep the drinks rolling. and i love their bathrooms. during the summer, it's nice to be able to go outside during the summer, drink in hand, and hang out with good company. read more

Interesting place if you don't being crushed by other people. It is nice but you better be sociable because this bar gets more and more crowded every time I go. Lots of younger folks go here to party and the place gets pretty wild but I've never seen it get dangerous. The building itself is beautiful with a great appeal and atmosphere. The owner pretty much built the place from the studs up and if you have ever been in a men's room in a pub In Ireland you will appreciate the fixtures as close as you can get in America. This is a pretty awesome bar, I guess when I get over my college days I'll stop being so disappointed at the fact that they don't serve pitchers of beers and be happy with the really nice selection of non pitcher worthy beers that they do have. This is a great bar to go to during the summer because they have an outdoor patio and rockin' on the river is held right outside. While the perks of this bar are darts and a karaoke machine I think that I'll be sticking to bars that think that all beers can go in pitchers for now, because I'm just not classy enough yet. read more

This is my new favorite bar in the capital region. I stopped in tonight, and let me tell you. Some people to call out first. 1. Whoever the guy in the white shirt is. I didn't catch his name, but when I asked a fellow patron, she says he is the general manager. Dude... you have NO idea what your professionalism meant to me tonight. I'm the person with the service dog. The fact that you knew the Americans with Disabilities Act, knew the 2 questions to ask, asked them, and then made me feel welcome... my god, brother. You have no idea. I know, it's rare for most people to run into someone with a service dog. But for those few of us who have a disability for which we are assisted by a service dog? Being treated respectfully and being made to feel welcome... it means all the world. You have NO idea how rare that is, how much obstinate bullsh1t and needless obstacles people throw at us, everywhere we go, every freaking day. (Yeh, Tess Collins of McGearys, I'm STILL talkin to YOU.) I'm an artist, was home painting all day. Was feeling reallllly depressed... u don't need to know my story. But I neeeeded some human company tonight. I wanted so much just to be able to go out, have a few pints, enjoy myself, like real people do. I often want that. But... SO often... I get hassled, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, messed with, in doorways. By people who don't know the ADA, and just feel BIG and powerful messing with people. I'm literally afraid to go out most of the time, afraid to go anywhere new, owing to the hostility and harassment people like me - people with invisible disabilities who rely on service dogs for assistance - usually face any time we go out in public. People read stupid, ableist, articles about so- called "fake service animals" (which are really about people faking disabilities to take untrained dogs in public), and they think it's a big thing. They think it's their responsibility to harass me every time I go out... and it isn't. It freaking hurts. It sets up barriers that shouldn't be there. It victimizes people with disabilities. It makes us afraid to even go out in public. I'm often too scared to actually go in anywhere. I go by... as I've gone by Ryan's Wake so many times. And it looks like it might be so fun to just go inside. But I'm usually too scared to. I tell myself this time, this time I'll go somewhere. But then I go out... and I just go by. And then I just go home. Christ, you have no idea. I was scared tonight, like always. I had to really talk myself into going out tonight. But I did it. I made myself stop in, because I honestly felt like I would die unless I overcame that fear and pressed for my right to exist in public. ... and you were there. You asked me, is that a service animal? Yes. What service does it provide? The ONLY 2 questions that I should ever be asked before being served. And the moment I answered them, you, and everyone else there, made me feel welcome. Just like anybody else. My God. You honestly have NO idea how much that means. Thank you. And B.J.! You are my new favorite Trojan bartender (along with Joe, of bombers and F.A.Social Club, who will always be fav too). Thank you all so much. This is one of my favorite places to have an after-work happy hour. The outdoor area with Hudson River view is high on the list of reasons I recommend this place--there really aren't too many places one can go and hang out on the riverfront in the Albany area, which is surprising. If you must remain indoors, the old-world charm of dark wood, mirrors, huge shop windows, and low-lighting gives this place real ambiance. Even my beloved Guiness is on special during happy hour, which is unusual, and the staff is friendly and patient for the most part. Parking is easy--there are a couple of lots available. read more

Very disappointing. Looks are deceiving. Bartender service and food was poor .

Decent food, decent decor, decent service, decent everything. Nothing special but, to be fair, I did go on an early Sunday afternoon right after they opened. Sat outdoors by the water and ordered corned beef hash sandwich which I could have easily confused with Reuben but it was not that bad. Huge portions for merely 7 bucks, I think that's a good deal. Traveling through the town so not sure if I will ever be back but why not? It was decent enough to leave a feedback. read more
