One of my husband's favorite hobbies when we travel for work is to try pancakes at different restaurants. He is very particular about pancakes, and always gets them with blueberries. He said these are hands-down one of the two best restaurants for pancakes he has ever been to. (The other is in Washington DC). The Klompen cakes with blueberries were light, fluffy, and delicious. I even had half of one of his (he ordered three!) and was incredibly impressed. I got the veggie power blend skillet (sauce on the side) with two poached eggs. I only added salt and pepper, it did not even need the sauce that came with it, it was that good. The orange juice was truly fresh squeezed, the latte was good and the coffee was strong. Overall, an excellent experience. The only drawback to our breakfast experience was not being able to have real maple syrup with the pancakes. Kristin, a thoughtful and attentive server, explained that they used to have this as an option, but no longer do. We highly recommend if you are in the area! read more

I had the cinnamon roll pancakes and the Dutch strudel. The cinnamon roll pancake was excellent. Not too sweet, great texture, and a wonderful experience all around. The strudel was also excellent with a perfectly balanced gravy, well done potatoes, and eggs. The flavors and textures were perfect. The server was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was average. Not bad average, just fine average. No complaints. Just a basic farm style diner vibe. I highly recommend this place. read more

Wow! I wished I lived nearby so I could visit here often! The bakery itself had cases filled with beautiful goodies. The line to purchase the sweets, bread and more was out to the entrance. We sat in the cafe for a little breakfast before heading back to Chicago. The dining room was charming, with a ton of varnished wood. Big booths and tables made it so comfortable. Beautiful little bakery with a huge parking lot! This place gets packed and for good reason! Apple cider donuts are phenomenal, the almond cookies are delightful and soft, the fresh orange juice is well worth $5 a cup, and the muffins are huge. So many things to choose from, good luck!! read more

I am part of a fluid group of ladies who gather every Tuesday. This morning there were only 2 of us. We offered to move to a smaller table, but were assured that was not necessary. We usually have GREAT service, but today it was a bit lacking. We had the gentleman waitperson and we both felt he was less than happy to serve us. I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and a fruit bowl. No cheese. He never came back to check on us. We had to ask for our checks. My friend asked for a to-go box and when he brought a larger one, she asked if she could have a smaller one. He made no response, turned around and walked away. He did bring a smaller box, but with an attitude. Maybe he was having a bad day, or something is going on in his life, but I have to say we have had better service. read more

Still good! We don't go to Deboer's often because it's in a high traffic location that attracts swarms of people/ tourists. The food is good, but not usually worth these long wait times imo. Today, was a cloudy and cold Wednesday mid morning. The place was busy, but no long wait times. The food is always good. Everything I've ever eaten on the menu is good... but I have a special affinity for pig 'n the blankets, banket, and any Mexican inspired breakfast item in the menu. Today I had the chorizo Benny. It was fabulous and worth the $15 imo. Our waiter, Pedro, was the best! He's worked there for over a decade and knows the family that runs this restaurant--- 3 Dutch brothers--- he gave me a run down on the lore and all the pictures are of their family photos hanging around the restaurant. I think that's pretty cool. They will be opening and expanding into a new restaurant location on the corner of River and Lakewood Blvd sometime in the near future. That location will have more of a "hipster" vibe with breakfast cocktails, etc. Check them out when you want... but if you don't want to wait come during off peak hours and off season times. Still my favorite pancakes in Holland! When your primary biz is a bakery but you also let folks sit inside and eat, you know the pancakes (here they're called klompen cakes) are gonna be good. Homemade, huge, and fluffed up to a malty deliciousness. And at $8 for a two-stack you can start your day full without blowing all your crypto. The bakery itself also serves up some of the finest treats I've ever had. Don't sleep on de Boer's black and white cookie, or--if you catch them on a weekend--the cronuts. This place is awesome. My wife and I stopped in for a quick bite at the goodie counter. My wife got the ham and Gouda croissant and I got the pig in the blanket with a sour cream donut to share later. My pig in the blanket was delicious the sausage was like not greasy inside almost a Filo dough type wrap.It absolutely rocked. My wife's ham and Gouda croissant was very delicious also my wife got a chai tea which she said was very good. our server at the counter was quite knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction as far as food selection. We stopped for a look at the café menu and the servings looked absolutely huge way more breakfast and we were looking for this morning but we will be back. Visited on a Saturday morning and had a bit of a wait (which was expected). They have bakery area nearby so you can get a pastry or coffee while you wait if you want. The items seemed fairly priced at the bakery too! We also sat down to eat and overall had a nice experience. The friends we were with said the OJ was the best they have ever had. I got an eggs Benedict which looked a little underwhelming but was still tasty. Unfortunately, it didn't sit well with my stomach at all so I wouldn't get that again but they had plenty of other options that sounded amazing. Everyone we were with loved their food. read more

Great value, great service, great food. We had lattes with the most delicious, thick whipped cream. We also tried the Taste of Old Country which is a sampler meal of savory pastry, soup, and cheese. It was three meals in one and I loved every bite. We also had the Breakfast Strudel. It was a flaky pastry topped by an egg and Dutch potatoes. For fun we also ordered a klompen cake. It was huge. Wow!!!! An amazing breakfast spot. I wish we lived closer so we could come by more often. It was packed when we went so we had a bit of a wait but then were able to grab seats at the bar. We both had an omelet which was fantastic. I substituted sausage instead of bacon which I loved. In addition, we got a chocolate chip pancake which was perfectly crispy and fluffy. Deboer Bakkerij has a couple of locations. This one is the south side one and is on the smaller side. I have been here a couple of times and have always gotten the ATA, which is currently $5.99. It consists of avocado, tomato, arugula, cheddar cheese, lemon aioli, and an egg. It is SO good. Like, 5/5 good. The bread is SO soft and on the fluffy side. The vegetables are so fresh and I thought complimented the warm sauce and the egg so well. This breakfast sandwich is not heavy at all and is in fact quite light. I have never felt sick or too heavy after eating this. The service is quick and they are great at telling you around how long you will need to wait. They bring out your order to you which adds to a nice personal feel. There is indoor and outdoor seating; the place is very clean and quite simple and cute! We ate at deBoer's North twice last week. The food was very good, and the service was excellent. But we have one huge complaint: Real maple syrup is not available for pancakes, waffles, or anything. Seriously, they're serving high fructose corn syrup to kids (and adults). The bills for two of us over two breakfasts were $41 and $52 -- not cheap, and worth it for great food and service, but c'mon, they're going to serve high fructose corn syrup instead of REAL maple syrup at those prices? Hey, worst case scenario: Charge an extra $1.00 for those who want the real thing. I'm truly incredulous...have gone to deBoers EVERY time I'm in town, but that may soon change. On our last day in Holland for the month, we went to Bowerman's on 8th: They had real maple syrup, don't charge extra, and don't even carry any high fructose corn syrup. Started with Carmello Latte's added whip - very decadent rich french vanilla style whip cream and carmel/vanilla syrup in the espresso/milk. So good! We split the chorizo benny - it was very flavorful and well presented, I was a bit frustrated with how dry it was - needed more hollandaise sauce - but never had a chance to ask for more. And, had to try their chocolate chip Klompen cake - one is so large - couldn't imagine eating more - but it was one of the best we have ever had. I have been doing to DeBoer's (North Side) for years. The food is great, the service friendly. Family owned business, and the staff has been there a long while, so you feel like you're part of an extended family. Besides the sit down restaurant section, they also have a section for baked goods that you can buy to take home. I bring all my friends who visit from other cities & states and they also love it. They have a combination of Dutch as well as American breakfast and lunch. You will not go hungry when you eat here, as the portions are huge. They do have a location on the south side of Holland, but that's more to go with some small tables for eat in. It's good too; don't get me wrong. I prefer the north side with the full menu and full sit down restaurant. It can get very busy, but the waits aren't usually that long. And they have bar seating as well if you don't want to wait for a table. DeBoer's usually gets voted best breakfast place in Holland each year and they deserve it. read more

DeBoer's Bakkerij is the place to go for brunch! But, everyone else thinks this as well, so be prepared for it to be busy! Food: fantastic! Ordered the Rembrandt's Way, traded tomatoes for artichokes, even the waitress thought that sounded good, and it was! Bonus points for them being able to make this gluten-free. Drink that are worth it: the fresh pressed orange juice, that is literally squeezed right before your eyes! Drink you should pass on: chai latte. Just ok. After everything else being so amazing, this was very meh. Service: good, but needs revising. I am amazed with how fast they're able to do everything with how busy it is, but the waitress working the bar counter needs to pay attention better to the order in which people are seated. Customers that were seated after us were given menus, drinks, and may have ordered food before us. If I didn't observe how stressed stressed she was , yet trying her best, I would be kind of miffed. We came here because it was the only Dutch owned bakery. Sadly we didn't really care for any of the food we got. I had the chicken tenders which is a restaurants choice item. My grandma wanted to show us this place on a Saturday morning. Boy oh boy was it packed! We came in and had to wait for about an hour to get a table. While we were waiting my girlfriend and I decided to try our their bakery. We got a cinnamon roll and a regular yeast donut and loved both of them. The cinnamon roll was one of the best I'd ever had in my life. Highly recommend. After we got seated our waiter came over 10 minutes later and got our drink order. The drinks came out quickly but there were a few issues that had to get resolved. After about 30-40 minutes of waiting our food came out and it was delicious. The sandwiches were good, the soups were good, the breads were good. I got the Dutch Delight and so did my girlfriend. We liked it but felt it needed maybe a bit more flavor. Our service was also just okay. It was very busy so we understood it just felt like it could of been better. Overall this place is super cute, decent pricing, great food and in a cute area... we will be back!! read more

The only thing that I am perplexed by is when you order something that needs to be made they bring out several orders on a tray and pass them out as a group one by one. Orders are not taken as a group so how are they passed out as a group? South side DeBoer Bakery, which is my favorite bakery and here is an example why. I buy their Sour Dough bread to have every day so I asked them to slice them but also cut them in quarters for me as I am the only one home.
