Where there's no vision, the people perish. Proverbs 29:18 Truly this is the case of my story. I had been seeing doctors from San Francisco to Los Angeles for the last ten years. I couldn't sleep, had repetitive nightmares, panic attacks, general malaise, digestion problems, allergies, and had beginning memory problems. The medical doctors either said I was fine, or that I had anxiety and should take a pill. This started when I was a mere 36 years old. To add insult to injury, I began self medicating myself with the usual suspects. Because of that, I developed a borderline diabetic condition. I also began feeling pressure in my chest had increased panic attacks when driving, and eventually avoided going outside unless absolutely necessary. Nighttime was best because it was quiet and more peaceful. I knew there was something wrong, but the medical doctors couldn't put their finger on it. My balance was off, and the last straw was that I got severely constipated. I am usually as regular as clockwork. I tried exercising and walking more, but it didn't help. It seemed like I was stuck. I felt like I was in a race to beat whatever was coming. I knew something was coming, but had no where to turn. While sleeping one night, I had a dream . I saw myself lying on an examination table, and I heard a woman's voice say "We know what your problem is, the stress has attacked your heart and your body. We are going to give you a treatment to melt the cholesterol from your veins and treat your stress". When I awoke the next morning, I knew that it wasn't a regular dream and the first thought that came to mind was "You need to find me a Chinese Medical doctor". I asked my wife to find one because she is an occupational therapist. She found Dr. Jay Ryu in Burbank. We made an appointment for August 6, 2006. The day before the appointment I was lying down watching TV and my heart started racing and my whole left side went cold. When I walked into Ryu Acupucture, I recognized it as the place in my dream which was a comforting sign. Dr. Jay, after examining me said it was fortunate that I came so soon because I was on the verge of having a stroke. He said that most people don't come until after a severe event. I was so distraught that I could hardly sit still and listen to his words. My blood sugar and blood pressure were elevated, I was anxious and about ready to explode. He prescribed 3 acupuncture treatments a week to get on top of the stress and near stroke situation, and prescribed herbal medication to treat my digestive system, get on top of the diabetic condition, and address my heart issues. After my first two acupuncture treatments, I realized i had been balled up in a protective position and the acupuncture was able to open me up and release energy. I felt a warm and energized sensation which made me feel like I was floating above the table. I cried tears of relief knowing that I really had been sick and was about to get the help I needed. I felt for the first time that there was actually hope for me. Little by little, since then (Aug 2006), all my conditions and symptoms were melting away. For example, after 3 months, I was able to resume my regular walking routine. I even was able to go on a business trip; I could drive again, my nightmares stopped, my diabetic condition and blood pressure were controlled and normal. Two years later, now, I only have to see him for the occasional acupuncture. I am still taking the herbal medication, by choice. I'd like to say more, but space nor time will permit. This may include VERY STRANGE things but the best thing to do is not question it, hold your nose, and swallow. I've had two stomach surgeries, the first one of which was done incorrectly. Neither of them cured me of my constant acid reflux. Those four years were a nightmare that I slipped in and out of. After the second surgery, TONS and TONS of prescriptions, scar tissue left over, and feeling like my problem was only 50% taken care of, I wanted to try anything. I've been taking my mother Rosa (age 62) to Dr. Ryu for almost a year already. My mother was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis due to hepatitis C that she got from a blood transfusion. This so called Doctor is a macho macho man...First he shoved his pouches bags (chinese medicine) so I had to buy them... and i did....Everything was going ok with his hand acupunture I felt good he use the hand method with small needles.. meanwhile he had ask me if I wanted to go to Cabo with him...??? so I let it go...then i came back and I told him I didn't drink his medecine because it made me gag but however i had cure myself from my seasonal allergy by making the Hippocrates soup...HE GOT REALLY mad at me. and told me.. "" You think you're your own doctor" so he came back and put hugh needles and while doing that he ask me "DO YOU have a boyfriend..and I said No and he said..WHY nooot??...and I said...because they're too much work...after he left the huge needles for a long time he took them out in a mean way and told me...your done.....that night i had the most horrible pain all over my body...I knew he had done this to me on purpose but if i had complain to him it would have been to no use...so i fix myself by putting warm towels and most of all meditating and also instead of acupuncture I am using acupressure which are the same points as acupuncture except there's only pressure and no needles envolved..I'm doing it myself and YES Mr. Ryu I am my own doctor!! Dear Dr. Ryu, When I came to see you at your office around four years ago, I had an injury in my Neck, shoulder, arms, and I had depression. Kaiser did all they could to the point they told me that my last option would be acupuncture and if it didn't work I would need surgery on my neck. I was referred to Dr. Ryu after my OBGYN discovered I had a large ovarian cyst and was suffering from a variety of pain issues as a result. So our plan was to pull me off my birth control (which was a nightmare to be on) and to start acupuncture to break up the cyst. It was either that or surgery...Yikes! Needles please! My first appointment with Dr. Ryu was easy and nearly completely painless. He was very straight forward yet still had a sense of humor which I really appreciate. I will say this: I do Not have issues with needles which I know many people do. That is something to definitely consider. Dr. Ryu is truly an amazing healer. As a student of acupuncture myself, I know that he is definitely gifted in treating patients and knows what he is doing. For the past few weeks, he has treated me for arthritis pain on my fingers. Immediately after the first treatment, I could feel the difference. Today, I am able to play the piano again and do the dishes in cold water. I no longer have aching pains on my fingers that keep me awake at night.
