We had a good experience at Sunda during our visit to Chicago. The food was flavorful, and the drinks were well made and enjoyable. Everything we ordered came out promptly, and the overall atmosphere had a fun, energetic vibe. The only drawback was that the restaurant was extremely warm inside. Our group was seated in a small corner, which made it feel even more cramped and uncomfortable at times. A little more airflow or a different seating arrangement would have made the experience much more enjoyable. That said, the quality of the food and drinks made up for it, and I would still return to try more items on the menu.

Sunda is extremely popular. It was very crowded on a Saturday night. I was literally elbow to elbow with the table next to me. It is a moderately upscale place, but it is not somewhere I would go for an intimate experience. I eat a lot of sushi but didn't find their menu appeal for a true sushi eater. I decided to lean more into their cooked dishes as this side of the menu was extensive. The boa buns were huge and the buns themselves were good, but the pork inside was cooked. My friends really enjoyed their sushi rolls, but I've had a lot better. I also didn't too much care for my cocktail. Our waitress was good. She was attentive and accommodating and kind. I am glad I tried it as it is popular, but doubt I return.

Gorgeous aesthetic and a standout spot for Southeast Asian inspired cuisine. I came specifically for the variety, and it did not disappoint. We ordered the scallops, crab noodles, sinigang sour, and a lychee martini, and finished with the chocolate molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream. The scallops were cooked to perfection and buttery. My personal favorite, though, was the sinigang sour cocktail. While it wasn't as tangy as traditional sinigang, it was a creative and well-balanced interpretation. Service truly elevated the experience. Our server was attentive and welcoming, and the staff member refilling our waters was just as on point A+ all around. Looking forward to stopping by again the next time we're in Chicago.

Y'all. When I say I left full and craving more, I mean it!! Already trying to convince another group of friends to come back with me!! To start highly recommend you get the shaved Brussels for the table. We got ours vegan since most of the table didn't eat meat so looking forward to trying them regularly!! The miso cauliflower was also amazing!! I got the red dragon roll and wow!! So delicious and the best part, it didn't fall apart when picked up! My friends got the steamed buns and ribs, they looked delicious!! The ribs were seriously mouth watering!! The perfect amount of sauce and tender! Not dry what so ever!! Highly recommend the lychee simoy, forewarning it's dangerously delicious!! Our server was fantastic! Truly a pro, handled our group of 10 like a champ!! Never an empty water glass on the table!

I'd heard good things about Sunda so we figured it would be a great spot to go before a show in the Loop. Turns out Sunda was everything we could've wanted and more. All of the food was spectacular. The crispy rice as a starter set the tone, and you can mix and match the wagyu and spicy tuna. I was partial to the spicy tuna but my girlfriend loved the wagyu. For mains, we both went with some rice. She went with a standard chicken fried rice that they were easily able to make Celiac friendly. I believe she went so far as to say that it was the best fried rice she's ever had. For me, I had the crazy rice. I like a little spice in my diet, and the crazy rice delivered. I'd definitely get it again.

Sunda had been on my list of spots to visit for a while, so I was so excited to treat my dad to dinner here for his birthday last month! I love the atmosphere, it's really, really beautiful inside. I (of course) had looked at lots of photos of the food and ambiance online, but I was a little thrown off with how loud it was (and not because it was super busy, we came earlier in the evening) but because the music is so dang loud! It felt like a nightclub in there and I KNOW I sound like a curmudgeon, but it genuinely threw me because it seems very serene from the photos but don't be fooled, it's thumpingggg. That aside, we had a lovely time. Huge shout out to our server Ryan!!! He was so friendly, knowledgeable, and just a pleasure to have serving us. Below is what we ordered: *Spicy edamame -- a must! The garlic/butter/chili salt combo was heavenly *Crispy brussel sprouts -- apparently one of the most ordered items on the menu? I think with a bigger party this would have been worth it because the serving size is huge, but with just me and my dad it was more brussel sprouts than any two people need! *Oxtail pot stickers -- I'll take 10 *Signature crispy rice with wagyu -- yes yes yes *Miso black cod -- yummy! Not a stand out but it was good, I liked the eggplant it was served with a lot. To drink my dad got the sunda old fashioned which he loved and I went with the grass tiger, also amazing! Overall we had a really nice time and I would definitely come back to explore more of the menu -- thank you Sunda and Ryan!!

We didn't have a reservation and arrived right when they opened, but we were seated quickly, which was a great start. After placing our order, we got a little nervous because a large party ordered ahead of us and we had an appointment to get to. Our server was very understanding and made sure our food came out quickly, which we really appreciated. Service: Our waiter was friendly and attentive, especially given the timing concern. Everything felt smooth and well managed. Food: The food tasted good and came out promptly. Solid flavors and an enjoyable meal overall. Other notes: The bathrooms are located downstairs and were a bit hard to find. I probably would've gotten lost if I hadn't followed someone down there. Parking: We took an Uber, so I can't personally speak to parking. Overall: A good experience with accommodating service and tasty food. I'd definitely consider coming back, especially knowing how efficient the staff is when timing matters.

Sunda New Asian has both River North & West Loop locations. The River North spot is very large with a full sushi bar, many tables, private dining areas, and a large bar near the entry. I loved the contemporary design and architectural features they had in the space. Their dining style is for plates to come out as they're ready and to ideally share amongst the table. The menu pricing can be a bit of a premium but sharing helps give you a variety of bites for the right price. To start, my group got a round of drinks: Billy's Superfresh Saketini, Lychee Simoy, Peared Sake, and Ginger Cosmo. My favorites were the Lychee Simoy which was fruity and sweet as well as the Billy's Superfresh Saketini which was spirit forward with a fresh kick of cucumber. For food, we got a variety of dishes to share and we didn't have a bad bite in the group. The Miso Cauliflower was amazing and a great starter. The Smokeshow Rolls came with a fun presentation. The Sweet Potato Caterpillar was what I was most excited for and probably was the least impressive dish of them all. The Chap Chae and Steamed Buns were amazing! The Buns comes as four but one can choose two flavors. We chose Pork Belly and Eggplant. I did not try the Waygu Crispy Rice bites but it was also a table favorite. Overall, this was a great dinner spot to enjoy good company. The food and drinks were both tasty. Service was good but a bit much with clearing plates immediately and persistence in asking if we were finished with our food. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed Sunda! Elite Tip: Happy Hour is in the bar area only as well as only offered at the River North location!

So I booked a table for two for my husband's birthday as this was on our list for the longest time!! Greeted by the cozy interiors and very cheerful staff, all wishing the hubby a happy birthday. They seated us at the special occasion seating and i graciously let the hubby take the plush seat! For drinks i got the Emerald, 100% alcohol free, 100% delicious. Perfect drink when you choose a sober night. The other drink of choice was the lychee simoy, another solid choice. And then we got started with crispy brussel sprouts and the oxtail potstickers. The perfect balance of crispy veggies in a flavourful soy base and a hearty potstickers packed with stuffing. The mains really blew our minds. The wagyu crispy rice was a stuff of dreams!! The wagyu was the perfect, melt in the mouth tender and the rice was crunchy awesomeness! The red dragon sushi roll was spicy, crunchy from the tempura, and creamy from the tuna. These two are must haves there! Ended the night with a sunda sundae, which meant my hubby ended the night with his favourite ube and red mung bean. The staff also gave us an on the house, coconut sponge cake with ube cream. Great ending to a great meal. Fabulous birthday meal for two at sunda!

Excellent in every single way. Cool spot. Great service. Incredible food and drinks. The espresso martini flight was super tasty. We really enjoyed the eggplant buns, lemongrass beef lollipops, and red dragon roll. Finished it off with the tasty Ridiculous dessert. So very highly recommended.

Came here with a reservation, and I'm glad we did because it started getting pretty busy during dinner time. This is a beautiful restaurant that serves some great-looking sushi as well as other Asian fusion-style dishes. Here's what I tried: Emerald - A pandan milk drink. Personally, it was just okay; the guava purée made it a bit too sweet, though the pandan flavor was nice. (3.5/5) Strawberry Fields - This was a tasty alcoholic drink. A bit small, but flavor-wise everything blended really well. (4.5/5) Pancit Canton - The pork belly was delicious, served over noodles with an instant noodle-like texture. There was a plentiful amount of shrimp and overall good flavors. The noodles were a bit soggy, though I believe they were meant to be that way. Still enjoyable. (4/5) Crazy Rice - A beautifully presented dish. The flavors were good, but be warned: the ghost pepper sambal is pretty spicy (my wife found it too spicy). For me, it was mild, and the shrimp pieces were very good. (4/5) Overall, the food is expensive and clearly meant to be shared with a group. From what I tried, I wasn't completely amazed, but the food was tasty. The service, however, was excellent. Our server Ryan was fast, friendly, and attentive--he even helped us take a group photo. Come for the good food, amazing service, and great ambiance.

Sunda offers attentive service, comfy seating & tables in a fun environment, with a twist on Asian staples. Our group started off with the edamame and Korean fried chicken steamed buns. Both were delicious, but of course the fried chicken made the latter slap to a whole new level. From there, we were treated to the out-of-this-world wagyu signature crispy rice, red dragon and sake to me rolls, sake nigiri, and the pork belly sinigang. The only thing that was a little underwhelming was the pork belly, but everything else from the service, to the drinks, to the food, were exquisite!!!!

The service was excellent--attentive, friendly, and professional. I ordered the Tokyo Breakfast. The salmon was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with rice, a soft-poached egg, and salmon roe. The miso soup was slightly salty on its own, but it worked surprisingly well when enjoyed with the rice toward the end of the meal. Overall, a memorable breakfast experience. The sushi is phenomenal, as were our drinks... but the other entrees are disappointing. The karaage and duck yakisoba in particular in quality could be from any corner restaurant in Chicago. The service lends itself more casual, and I noticed they were consistently quite slow to clear our table. I don't think people come here for the food as much as the views. Overlooking Streeterville from this angle and vantage was truly jaw dropping and for this reason I still strongly recommend Miru.

The taki yoki fritters weren't bad either. We saw people getting omakase, so we ordered a yummy looking piece they were receiving. It was just okay (chutoro truffle). The nigiri was also okay. The tuna piece was the only I really loved. The fish quality wasn't as high as I was expecting. The sushi was decent. A little too much truffle in the spicy blue fin tuna and a little too vegetable forward in the hamachi serrano. All in all, the atmosphere and amazing service pushed this up to a 4 for me.
