I have a concrete pool which was leaking. I called two other companies to help find the leak both companies could not find the leak although I knew the pool was leaking because of the amount of water I was losing. I called S&R to see if they can help. Tony their service manager came the next day. When I met him I immediately knew the experience would be different. He was very confident and knowledgeable, he checked all the lines and firmed the lines were not leaking BUT then he did something the other two companies did not do, he listened to me when I was explaining my experience with the leak. He asked me to get some food dye, poured it into the pool by the skimmers and found the leak. I highly recommend S&R pools and especially Tony!! read more

One of the worst pool service companies around in central jersey. I read many reviews in multiple forums and similar feedback on Kevin, and S&R. My BIGGEST mistake that i am reading all this after getting cheated. PLEASE don't hire them. I got my heater and pump replaced less than a year, spent more than 8k last year and now pump got leaks because of poor cheap work done in putting the pipes connecting with filter and skimmers. They now disown fixing it without additional charge for which he already got paid in full. multiple reasons given to me you should know .. 1st he says let the pump leak for 10 days and it will fix automatically :), then when I let that happen and it still didn't stopped leaking magically, his first question was are you a weekly service customer, or did you open the pool with us??.. if not then we will not take care of mess we created without taking more money. Kevin thinks he is the smartest person.. I see him in many forums acknowledging only good feedback and disowns or finds fault with customer in case of negative feedback.. he is going to do same here. Hired to install pool cover. Really terrible experience. Didn't show up on scheduled date due to not having the right equipment, then cracked my new patio when drilling holes and took me to court for the balance I owed when I withheld it to fix my patio. Judge stated that S&R did "consequential damage", but only gave me a $300 credit, so I'm out another $700 (at least) to get the patio fixed. I also noted while doing a search in the Court system that S&R has averaged 8 court cases a year for the last 3 yrs! I searched another local pool company and found none. Purchased a new pool heater 3/29/21 from S and R and they installed it. The new PVC pipe to the heater has a slow leak as a result of poor workmanship. I call in August since I was out of town for work and owner Steve wanted to charge $170 to send someone to take a look. It's less than 6 months regardless of when the leak started. I am a first time pool owner and having explained that from my first call I received no sympathy regarding my lack of intelligence surrounding pools. I was told to have my pool filled and ready but it wasn't when they came. I asked them to come back another time and was told they wouldn't. They then proceeded to quickly open my pool and shock it. They didn't bother to let me know that my pump was no longer functioning and didn't even add salt to my pool. I would encourage you to look elsewhere or learn how to do all this on your own. Read all the reviews on this company and trust me use a reputable company. I had my pool completely redone by this crap company 3 years ago. From the start all the work he did all fell apart. The filter, salt cell, pump and heater were not even 3 yrs old and all have had to be replaced because it was improperly installed. The owner of this company will just ignore you and never make right. Then he gets mad when I hold back paying him the last $2k til this P.O.S. comes and fixes all the issues. Right from the beginning they put in cracked coping, they left boot prints in the plaster, the coping seal looks like a 2yr old did it, and all the grout is cracked and falling out. This guy already got paid almost $30k and refuses to fix anything. The owner is a horrible person in general, he likes to act like a tough guy and honestly he is not the brightest bulb in the box. I am filing a lawsuit against this company do yourself a favor DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! The first thing this guy always says "well that's a warranty issue" lol no genius it's a quality of install issue. Do it right from the beginning and maybe the equipment won't fail. We've had our pool needs serviced by S&R Pools for many years. Kevin and his staff are very knowledgeable and thorough with regards to our pool. We used to have a Baquacil chemical system for our poor and that was causing many algae issues as well as being very costly. Kevin recommended a salt system to chlorinate the pool using good old salt. The system paid for itself in 3-years and the natural salt is easy on the skin and eyes. Recently we had our 18-year old liner replaced and my pool looks brand new. I only use S&R Pools for all my pool needs. They are never too busy to return my calls or answer my inquiries. read more

The worst pool service you can get in the area. I scheduled pool closing and opening with SR Pool -- their work is very sloppy and rushed. They didn't vacuum the pool before closing it, I didn't see chemical balanced for pool closing either. Probably due to careless pool closing, some parts in the filter system broke when they open the pool, and I had to pay for the replacement. Now, shortly after they opened the pool, my pool started to turn green and full of algae. This reminds me how rush their staff "balanced" the chemical during the pool opening. I had similar frustrating experience talking to Kevin as well -- whenever you try to argue with him, he made you sound like you are a liar. read more

Horrible customer service. We had issues and Tony and Elizabeth were dismissive and rude. We have used them for years for supplies and maintenance and will now not buy or use them again. All we really wanted was an apology for work that was requested and not done and work that was not done well either. Not very happy with S&R pool. They closed and opened my pool which was supposed to cover fixing if anything went wrong with the pipes, i.e. pipes freezing. After opening one of the skimmer lines did not work. They said I had to pay for investigating and fixing. Eventually I got them to come out to test the line, only if I would pay upfront. After testing they change their story, they said if it was because of freezing it would be covered, but because they put a spike in the ground for my pool cover, it must have broken the pipe, they even said their person did that, but since they do not have x-ray vision they are not responsible for fixing it. Now I have to find someone to pay and fix it. Terrible customer service, very unprofessional. I do not recommend hiring them for your pool. read more

My boyfriend called after another company never showed and never responded to follow up calls. S&R came out on Tuesday as promised. The first work on the filter did not correct the problem. Bob then talked to Kevin and he suggested it might be better to replace the old filter with a new one rather than keep spending money on the old one, with no guarantee on how long the fix would work. We decided his suggestion was good. The next day (today) they brought and hooked up the new filter. The workers were good and professional. The new filter is working beautifully. Bob Zirpoli and I would definitely recommend them. read more

We can hardly believe that it has been sixteen years since Kevin installed our swimming pool! It looks beautiful year after year! In addition to all of the openings and closings, they have replaced our liner once after 12 years and of course regular maintenance. The crew is so efficient and clean up thoroughly when their work is complete. What a great bunch of guys and it's so nice to see many of them from year to year. The employees are good but Kevin, the owner, not so much! I purchased a $5000 pool cover from him 3 years ago and he advised me to buy a pool cover pump for another $260. The pump had failed the first two seasons but at each pool opening, they fixed it and got it to work. The third year, it failed again. I told Steve, the employee, that I didn't think it was right to keep fixing it, so he took the pump with him and said he would talk to Kevin about getting me a new pump. A few days later, I got an email from Kevin advising me that I could "buy" another pump. Despite having emails documenting that the pump never worked correctly, he would not budge. Rather than fight, we agreed he would return my defective pump and we would part ways as gentlemen. After a few weeks passed, I still did not receive my pump. After another month, they finally told me that they had lost my pump. At that point, I asked for half of my money back or a new pump. Kevin refused once again, but said he would give me a used pump in working condition. In an effort to resolve this, I agreed. However, once I received the used pump, it looked like it had been used commercially in a mud pit and the wire was cut through to the copper. (See photos). When I brought this to Kevin's attention, he said he would provide me with another used pump "whenever I come across one". That was back in July, it is now November, and I still do not have a working pump. Buyer beware!!! read more

Had S&R pools install a salt system on my existing in ground pool. First system installed was too small and they had to come back out and install the correct one. This year after opening pool the salt system does not work. After two weeks of phone calls I a still waiting for a service call appointment. Disappointing service after an expensive install. I have a 10 year old in ground pool with a vinyl liner. My pump had motor bearings that were bad and seals that leaked. S&R gave me an estimate and replaced it within 2 days. Since they did a good job, I asked for a quote to replace the liner that had a small leak at the floor return. The liner was very brittle and bleached. I received a reasonable estimate and was pleasantly surprised a week later when I received a call that they were ready to install the new liner. My pool now looks brand new and I am very happy with the follow up I received to take care of some small details. I received great service at a reasonable price. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED!! I contracted S&R to install a new vinyl liner. It has been almost 2.5 months and it is STILL NOT DONE. The liner was not properly installed. It has pulled out of the coping and there are wrinkles and bubbles all over the pool. Kevin insists the job is finished and refuses to make it right. He has changed his story and back tracked so many times I do not think he can keep his stories straight. He is very unprofessional and dare I say rude. I would not recommend using them for anything. The only saving grace this company has is, Elizabeth in the office is lovely. read more

STAY AWAY. How is this guy Kevin still in business. Manufacturer refers me to him as the authorized service center for my warranty issue, I called them in the morning and he (Kevin) calls me back at 8 pm, as soon as he hears this is a warranty issue, he tells me he doesn't have time to talk to me and that it's the day after Memorial Day so he can't deal with this and spend time talking regarding the issue. He tells me to call back manufacturer as I don't have time dealing with your problem. Are you kidding me... How the hell he is an authorized service center is beyond me. I'll be calling back the manufacturer letting them know exactly of this so called "professionals" attitude and treatment received. I'll be spending my dollars elsewhere. read more

S&R was called since they put the new pool filter in last year! We have always opened this pool for over 25 years but my family asked them to come back since this was a new filter. They send 2 guys who are here for less than 10mins. They dump the earth incorrectly in the pool 10 cups now all over concrete pool floor and filter not working correctly and they leave pool cover at low end of pool! Now they give a bill for $480. For what???? 8 mins worth of nothing. Now Friday comes my brother try's to get filter working no luck calls them back they show up for 3 mins and state everything is working when it's clearly not. Filter not working correctly since anyone who has a built in pool knows you should not have to backflush over 10xs. So they try and leave another bill. They are not a good pool company to use they lost a piece to the filter tried to blame my mom. This is a sad company thank God for Levco pools and national pools at least we know who to use for the future and it's great we know so many people that will know what happened read more

Be careful with these people, they charge you the service call fee, even if they do not execute the service and they do not tell you this up front. They also tried to sell me a filter that was very expensive and way more than I needed say that was the only way they would drop the $150 service fee. They wanted me to buy a $1400 filter or a lower $1000+ filter from them (for an above ground pool). Usually service providers inform you of the mandatory fee before hand, and that fee is usually less than the fee for executing the service itself when they do not do anything. read more

Very disappointed. S&R painted our pool with paint we supplied and have been using for over 20 years. It was very expensive paint and we have never had a problem when painting it ourselves. After S&R acid washed & painted our pool it began to blister and bubble. Called the owner Kevin and he immediately blamed it on the paint. Didn't even have the decency to come and look at it and made his decision not to do anything about it. He said " that's what you get when we don't supply the paint." Called the paint company and they said it was most likely due to them not properly cleaning the acid wash off the walls of the pool. Would not recommend this company! read more

Had a very bad experience with S&R Pools. Upon scheduling a closing for the pool this year, they informed me what the closing would entail. When I received their invoice, I was shocked to see expenses for items which I was not told about. After speaking with Kevin, I was told that I was wrong and that I was told about all the expenses beforehand by one of his employees. Before we even went over the expenses in question, I told him that I was going to pay the whole bill, basically to be honorable. Nevertheless I was told I was wrong and he suggested that I was a liar. I would be careful with this company. Interpersonal communication problems are just the beginning of the awful way in which this business is run. They are disorganized and showed up at my house a day earlier than scheduled. Good thing I just happened to be home. Then, we experienced a nice dose of ageism from the technician as he literally laughed at my elderly father. We explained the problem (pump) and that everything else was working (like, the motor). We needed two parts replaced. One that we already purchased and one that S&R would provide (AT MORE THAN DOUBLE THE RETAIL PRICE). The next day the tech came back and rushed through the job and left. When we turned on pump it didn't work and tech said it had 'nothing to do with what he did.' I've rarely come across such careless, awful business practices - without ANY attempt to actually look at a problem and try to solve it. I asked for my check back and was told the tech no longer had it (really?) and so I had to cancel the check. Bad news, bad way to run a business, and everyone should stay away from S&R Pools. read more

Wow. I really can't believe the negative comments here. I had S&R install a new vinyl pool in my yard 2 years ago. They did an amazing job installing. Quick, clean, informative, everything that was promised. Most importantly, the pool came out beautiful. Now they are there to open and close the pool at the beginning and at the end of the season and I'm trying to manage things in between on my own. I had a question about my salt water chlorinated and I called the office. Kevin called my back in less then a half hour and walked me through my troubles. This company is fine for regular maintenance, such as opening and closing a pool. Anything beyond, think long and hard, and then find another company. We had our pool resurfaced (consisted of draining pool, scratch coat, and application of Diamond Brite Blue) in 4/2012. To this day, we never received full closure or resolution on the issue. Immediately after the application, footprints and brush marks could be seen on the floor and sides of the pool. After calling the owner, we were told we should be using a wire brush on the pool every day. It got slightly better. Then the PH continued to be out of whack. After much back and forth, we hoped over time the pool would get better the next season. After opening the pool for the 2013 season, things were not 100% (my standards are too high?). There were still dark brush marks and it looked dirty. All we asked was for the owner to come over at dusk to see the pool, which was when you could see the footprints and streaks the most. He claims he came during the day and there were no issues. (I said dusk). Back and forth phone calls, e-mails, promises to come over, comments like, "I don't know plaster, to be honest. I sub-contracted that out.", reluctance to provide the subcontractor's name, etc. has left me and my husband with a lesson learned - don't always go for the cheapest and never allow S&R on your property. 2014 season, and things are still not 100%, haven't heard from S&R except when they wanted to schedule a pool closing/opening. I hired S&R to open my above ground pool. I was told the cost would be around $250, give or take what kinds of chemicals they used. I was given a bill for $648 dollars, and no follow up instructions. 5 days later when my pool wasn't clear, I called Kevin who told me they weren't mind readers so they couldn't give instructions. He said I had to backwash my filter (he sold me a cartridge filter 2 seasons ago which you don't backwash), and to shock the pool. I cleaned the cartridge myself, shocked the pool and it was still green. I then called their store and he told me the filter probably needed new parts. I only had it for 3 weeks and they sold it to me! He said that didn't matter in a very condescending way as if I were clueless. I took the water to get tested at Leslie's pools, who told me it was shocked sufficiently, yet it is still green. I will not call S&R again to resolve it because I don't want to spend another $600 dollars to be treated like an idiot, and continue to have the same problems. They are very dismissive to inexperienced pool owners, and being a woman probably doesn't help. Would not recommend this company. The one star is for the nice woman who answers the phones. read more
