Terrible company, terrible ownership. This compamy NEVER shows up when they say they are coming. They don't care if you have a job/business. For the last 5 yrs, this company has been nothing but a disaster. They've broken things, and they've broken more things. This time around they've destroyed my grass in my backyard by placing the tarp and leaving the tarp on my grass. After they insinuated that we dos this, I decided that I just wanted my money back. At first, I was just going to leave it alone and let my wife deal with them. UNTIL Tracy called and insinuated that we destroyed our own grass! And then when I went to the store to get a refund, the owner told the staff to call the police, they wouldn't and I insisted that they did. The damage they did to my backyard is over $1000.00!!!!!! All I asked for was a refund! But they called the police and caused $1000.00 + damage to my backyard. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY ! If you don't take the warning, it's on you. So the rule at National Pool is that they will only sell chlorine tablets to customers who also bought it from them last year. Despite having them install my pool and buying lots and lots of other stuff there over 20 years, I am not on their list... so a big F-U from National Pools and Spas in Hillsborough. I suppose they think this ridiculous rule is 'protecting their loyal customers' but as a long time customer I will now be a former customers. The customer service is terrible. I ordered a pool June 6, 2020 and was told I should get it in 4-6 weeks. I was never contacted near the delivery time and was given different delivery times which didn't happen until the last weekend in September. Because of the delay I was supposed to receive a solar cover to help warm the pool. Not only haven't I received the cover, the ladder that I purchased as part of the pool package has yet to be delivered. When I called to inquire about the missing items, the person answering the call was rude and impatient when I asked for details regarding anticipated delivery time. I was given the answer that I would receive the ladder sometime in the spring, nothing about the cover. Completely unacceptable. read more

We had an issue with the filter in our hot tub. Gave Pete a call, he was super responsive and was more than willing to help in any way he could (keep in mind this is during the covid pandemic) He walked us through the process of removing the filter. When we still couldn't do it ourselves, he came out to the house to help us. Customer service is above and beyond and we are so grateful! Do not recommend this company at all!!! We failed our first inspection as the fiberglass pool was being installed in June 2020 since National didn't wait for the inspector to arrive. Many failed inspections later, we finally received the CO in July 2021, 13 months after the pool was installed! Other issues included: warped pool caused by the crane stretching the sides at installation, as well as uneven settling - this resulted in problems installing coping and the mortar is already cracking. We installed deck jets and were promised caps would match the deck. After months of asking, National finally said they could not provide this and I had to buy them myself. In the initial design, National committed to a handrail at the pool entrance which they later called the township and removed, claiming it wasn't needed due to the low depth, however fiberglass is slippery and it is necessary at both entrances, so I had to buy 2 of these myself. The pool ladder supplied by National was not intended for deck installation and National had no solution other than clunky off white elephant feet (deck is grey), so I bought a new ladder myself. I was never compensated by National for any of these extra expenses. The Pentair electrical panel still has problems which requires an electrician to fix. We were not properly informed about cost and timeline of gasline installation so we ultimately had to dig all around the deck frame which increased costs. The quality of the pool equipment provided was sub-par for a $60k+ pool. The white skimmer cover already turned yellow, the backwash hose ripped after the 2nd or 3rd use and the skimmer pole cracked within 2 months. There were even more problems I'm leaving out, but I notified National of all of these issues which cost me over $3k and they never responded. Instead they continue to bill me for the $100 balance. Word of advice, I was told by Hillsborough township to never agree to a final payment amount that is not commensurate with getting National to finish the job properly. Although Dan Jr was helpful, Dan Sr is unresponsive after you sign your contract and pay your deposit. read more

Ok, first some quick background. I have a large swimming pool which I maintained myself until June of 2012 when I fell seriously and traumatically ill, leaving me hospitalized for over a year. I am still on a slow mend both physically and mentally as I write this. Needless to say our pool fell by the wayside and remained closed for two years. Given the fact I can no longer deal with our pool myself I decided to hire a company to open, close, and maintain the pool over the summer season. I sadly bypassed Angie's List and opted for National Pools of Hillsborough because I had been buying my supplies from them for over a decade. What proceeded was one of the worst customer service experiences I think I've ever encountered. From workers not showing up at the appointed time, then not at all, without so much as a call from the company. I had to call them and speak to Robert (the world's worst customer service rep) and hear lame excuses describing just how utterly disorganized this company is. They finally showed up and pumped out the pool and asked me to fill it for the next 15 or so hours. I did and the pool was crystal clear. Then they didn't come back, and didn't come back, so I called Robert the Terrible to find if they were actually in the business of working on pools or whether this whole thing was a hoax. To make a long story short, Robert expended all his capital by essentially blaming me, the customer, for their failure to perform the agreed upon work. After his tirade, he tried to calmly go on as if I was going to sign a contract with National. I calmly told him to send back my deposit and that I would seek the service of a real pool company elsewhere. Perhaps that was a bit flip on my part, but I was pretty mad about the whole thing and I don't deal with emotional situations all that well right now due to my PTSD. All I know is that I wouldn't hire these clowns to run a bath for me. I highly recommend that anyone who is seeking a pool maintenance company that you really check them out on Angie's List or a similar service, or at least the BBB. There are too many reputable people in the pool business, why settle for the bottom of the barrel, which IMHO is what National Pools represents. Good Luck. read more

DONT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!Let me start by saying I NEVER write bad reviews but I wish I knew what I know now. I was going to go with Anthony Sylvan pools but , I got involved with a contractor for something else and he recommend national. Omg. I have a pool that was started in eAugust that is not completed- a small pool~ 450 sq ft. that should have been done in 2 maybe 3 months. I now have to file a claim in with the consumer fraud division to get my almost $5000 back for work that should have been completed in October. They also laid out the pool wrong and since I live in Princeton you have to get a survey for the measurement. And national stuck me with $1000 bill after they made a mistake! It's been a bad experience. I'll get someone else to finish it but such an exasperating experience for something that should have been easy. Lack of accountability and ownership by the company. I couldn't be more disappointed with my choice of companies. Check reviews. These people don't care one bit. Update: this just keeps getting worse. Now I hired someone else to finish the pool and none of the equipment is working they were holes in the brand new pump. The heater isn't working. Read reviews. Lesson learned. I have a service contract with them for 3 yrs. never had a problem till now. The service staff doesn't want to fix problems. It looks like they r over worked. I have had a leak in my pool filter for 3 weeks . I kept complaining to the service guys & they kept waiting for next guy to fix it. Next I needed a new spa motor. I was promised both will be fixed . But every time they come they have some excuses. This Friday they didn't even vacuum my pool . My hubby had to chase them down. No manager at their office. No answers why they didn't fix something when we repeatedly told them we have guests on Saturday. Why promise something when their guys r overworked. It's like they have too many service calls on Their plate so keep skipping us. I talked to both Carlie & Justine multiple times & believed their promises that everything will be fixed. I had originally dealt with this company buying a Sundance hot tub in 2003, it lasted 12 years. I just bough the same model, a lot more expensive, and here is my experience. The hot tub has not worked since we bought it, we do everything by the book, water turns green every week , and has filthy bubbles, it is completely defective. We have had their third party service guys out here multiple times and nothing has changed. Now throw in the fact that during installment they cut the cover with a blade and still haven't replaced it, there is no reason to deal with their bullshit. I would run from these guys in the opposite direction. There is no attention to detail ZERO customer service and judging by the reviews here, I am not alone in my experience with this company. I only wish I had looked here first to basically see a regurgitation of everything I had felt after buying this Sundance tub. It is garbage. These guys don't know to what they're doing and you can't trust what they say....I brought my vacuum here (after calling them to explain my problem and asking if they could fix it) because they said they worked on my type of vacuum and could get the replacement part needed. After hauling it in, the young guy who helped me had no idea what was wrong or what needed to be done, so I left it for them to evaluate. Someone called me an hour later to say that they know the part is needed, but wouldn't actually replace it - that they could order the part for me. When I pressed them, they would only say "my manager says", although the manager couldn't talk directly to me. Very annoying that they said they would work on something that they actually can't, but what's worse is that they offered to order and sell me the replacement part needed (that I will have to install myself) for DOUBLE the price that I can find it for in a 10 second Amazon search. As a side-note, at the same time I called to find out if they could fix my vacuum, I asked about general cleaning services for my pool. They forwarded me to their service department in another town (Hamilton maybe?) who didn't answer. On my third try, I finally left a voicemail inquiring about getting their help. It's now 4 days later and no call back. These guys just don't want your business, so I'm happy to take it elsewhere! read more

I have been doing business with National Pools for about 9 or 10 years. They installed my in ground 28K "true L" pool and have done all the maintenance. The price of the pool was reasonable. They were not the lowest but towards the lower end. Their service is average to poor. My biggest issue is the heater which was sub standard from day 1 and they have not done right by me with that over the years. Lastly one of the factors in using them was that they had a store in Green Brook, NJ which they unfortunately closed about 2-3 years ago. About their service department. About 50% of the crew are decent and the other 50% are untrained and don't know much about pools. Their HQ staff is rude & curt. read more

Yelp removed my first review because they said I wasn't specific. My first review was as follows: The sales staff are like used car salesmen. They will say ANYTHING to make a sale. Completely untrustworthy. I dealt with a guy named Ed. 100% useless. I took my business elsewhere. Let me try to be more specific starting with.... if this was the last pool company in the world and I was stranded in the Sahara desert, I would rather die a sun baked death than do business with national pools. Next.... when ed showed up at my house he gave the least professional presentation, of the 6 I received. His trunk looked like he shoveled the brochures and pamphlets into it. He couldn't even find his own business card. Then after making me wait over a week he came back with a price that was $8000 higher than the last pool I had national do for me in my old house, even though I was providing them with the filter, pump, heater and 2 led lights (approximately $4k in equipment) Ed justified this 25% plus price increase by saying "well, what can I tell you prices go up" with a rude attitude. What I wanted to hear was " you're a return customer and we appreciate your return business". When I told Ed and his coworker (who's name I forget but was the salesman who sold me the last pool) how completely dissatisfied I was with their current price and I'd like a written breakdown of the current price as well as a copy of my last contract so I could do a line by line comparison. After promising to send it on several occasions they never did. However, they did REPEATEDLY call dozens of times from several different numbers trying to sell the pool. If you have ever tried to buy a car from a dealer, this was the same tactic they use. Needless to say I used a different pool company. NOTE: I received a message from Vincent stating the Hillsborough location has nothing to do with the Robbinsville location. All I know is I called the Hillsborough store, left my contact info and ed called me back and scheduled our appointment. .... so there must be some link between the two locations. read more

I have been a customer of the HILLSBOROUGH Retail Store for many years and believe that Vinny and Pete are OUTSTANDING pool experts. They solve every issue - with out ever having to visit the pool. Just by asking pointed questions - they provide solutions - whether to use aqua finesse - or what algecide or number of pounds of shock based on the water test result. Pete specifically diagnosed a dirty grid - just by asking a few questions about water flow when the jandy valve was in a few different positions. They have solved every issue I have had with my gunite pool. They are so thorough - you may consider them Pool Doctors. Many other customers seek them out for their professional and technical expertise - and they are at their happiest when you return to their store and share with them and their staff that their recommendations and suggestions WORKED perfectly. They take pride in solving customer issues / problems. They dont up sell - they offer suggestions with reasons why they made that specific recommendation. And their staff is high energy - always helpful - eager to assist and eventually will remember you name by seeing you when you bring your water in to get tested. The water test team - offers solutions based on the test results - and will help you to the right shelf in their store to get you exactly what you need to balance your pool water. DO NOT CONFUSE the Hillsborough Retail Store located on Rt 206 with any other YELP review - as National has multiple locations - and a construction division. The sales associate took down my phone number and said he would let the service side know and they would call me back with a date and time. To this day they have not contacted me. We have patronized their Robbinsville location for several years, including a new 25' above ground pool installed about 12 years ago. All pool supplies and water testing during the season is done by them, and we purchased a new filter from National 2 years ago. The recommendations,service and follow up are excellent. Every employee that has assisted us over the years has been knowledgeable and given us his or her best effort, whether it's a purchase or assistance with an operating issue. We had a problem with the pool opening which we traditionally do ourselves on Memorial Day week-end. After a quick visit to the store by my wife for consultation, one of the owners (Dave) stopped by late Saturday to inspect and correct the problem -- no charge since we are a loyal customer. That type of service is extremely rare, and we will continue to patronize National as long as we have a pool. Couldn't ask for a better source. read more
