My 2005 targa had a weird electrical issue crop up while adding a bluetooth upgrade to the existing CR25 audio unit. Five "experts" took a look at the situation and could not determine why things were wonky. Porsche of Marin couldn't make a new key due to the issue and wanted me to spend $800 just to diagnose the situation. Wells, at S-Car-Go, had the situation solved in 30 minutes and then was able to spend under an hour doing some proactive measures to ensure things would continue to work smoothly -- as well as making a new, fully functional key. Porsche Fremont changed the wheel locks and wheel lug nuts on my Cayenne to non Porsche rated parts without my knowledge. Without proof, Porsche Fremont blamed S-Car-Go for the issue although S-Car-Go has never worked on my wheels and tires. Rob, Wade, and Angel spent 2 hours helping me figure out the issues with my Cayenne and gave me direction how to fix the issue. It was amazing these guys helped as they did it out of the goodness/kindness of their hearts and they charged me nothing for the 2 hours of their time. A few months ago I needed a new clutch and accumulator assembly on my 996TT. I made phone calls to local shops around Napa. The closest Porsche mechanic was Alpina. They recommended that I call Rob at S-Car-Go as he would be tooled up to service my car. I called the shop and I was able to speak with Rob. He was very knowledgeable and informative over the phone. We exchanged several emails to estimate the work and schedule a time for me to drop off the car. I dropped off the car and the shop gave the car a good inspection. They helped identify outstanding issues with the car and provided me with individual quotes for each issue so that I could decide what work I'd like for them to perform. They were not pushy at all with the services and made sound recommendations. Other than the clutch and accumulator, I had them replace the rear main seal. I appreciated the advice provided by Rob. It's nice to speak to someone with a lot of knowledge and personal experience about the car. His Porsche racing background helps him distinguish the "needs" versus the "wants" a customer has for their cars. He could have easily sold me the "high end" clutch and flywheel I came in I thought I needed but, he explained that it was really unnecessary unless I planned on extreme power modifications. (Saved me quite a bit of money and time.) The shop had the car for just over a week and the work was done well. I broke in the clutch and the car drives better than ever. I did shop around prior to bringing the car to S-Car-Go. Compared to other shops, the prices are 'reasonable'. The other shops I called that were 'more affordable' sounded really uncertain about the work I requested. They didn't provide feedback when asked about the work I requested. All they gave me was an estimate and wanted to know when I was going to drop the car off. I felt that the price I paid at S-Car-Go was more than fair for the services and advice I received. I wouldn't hesitate coming back for future service and recommending others. read more

What a GREAT shop. I truly cannot express how wonderful Rob and his crew were. I took my '82 SC in to him today to repair a few small things after that car had sat for awhile. These guys just picked up a new loyal customer. Took my 996 Turbo here to have a vacuum leak investigated and aftermarket exhaust installed. Another area shop wanted $2500 to pull the engine to make the vacuum leak repair (I called BS and went to S-CAR-GO). These guys not only repaired the leak WITHOUT removing the engine, but they installed my exhaust and gave the car a thorough one over FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST the "other" shop wanted to just pull the engine (totally unnecessary). Very reasonable pricing. Very competent, professional, courteous, helpful, and above all else, HONEST. Shop is like a Porsche museum, lots of guys with our passion. Porsche trained techs, tons of experience with 964, 993, 996, 997, 991, etc, etc. The first thing I look for in a Porsche service center is honesty. I want someone to be honest with me and I will in turn be loyal. You have one chance to establish trust, you break it, it's gone forever. Need an oil change, a new set of tires or rims, something simple - this is solid shop. If you value your time, sanity, and car. Avoid. Dee is awesome, and the guy who waxes is great, otherwise don't bother. I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. I bought a 10 year old car with some fairly straightforward problems, and without going into the details I ended up going back several times for each issue and left with new ones. The worst of which was a bill for a transmission repair and it came out with a more expensive problem than it went in with. Rob refused to remedy the issue, each time he'd take my car, wrench down on it (making it impossible to shift) so it seemed like he was doing something... my transmission still can't stay in second gear. I'm about 97% sure rather than do the actual repair work they simply dropped in a wholesalers used transmission and pocketed the difference without knowing the transmission they replaced it with was also faulty. Rob King has impressive resume at the track, and generally competent staff - and a lot of great cars inside - don't trust the window dressing. He caters to a crowd who will drop $20K a visit. If you want to spend less than $1000 or more than $20,000 and replace everything with brand new go for it. If you need some smart diagnostics and a bill somewhere in the middle I advise you to go to Sonnen or some of the independents in the South Bay. I spent $15K with Rob, and basically have to redo most of the work I paid for. It's insanity inducing. Add to that he's a pretty arrogant guy and will brow beat you into accepting a diagnosis. If I hadn't already tied up money in the initial repair I felt he should fix I would have never gone back the 3rd-12th time. Turns out revisiting those repairs/problems were a mistake also he rarely admitted fault but he always took my money. read more

I had an issue with my 944 and two other shops couldnt figure it out. By the time I got down to the shop about a half hour after the tow truck dropped her off, they had already diagnosed it properly and they had her cleaned and parked in the show room next to their sweet ac cobra. Ive tried several other porsche shops n these guys are the best they even treat my 944 as if it were a real porsche! Ok folks I really havent had to lower a star review before but here it goes. I took my 944 back to what I thought were my guys but some how this time I didnt quite get the same kind of service. Yes they could fit me in which was great, but once i got it it there it took them almost 3 months to wrap it up. Appearently my ignition switch required replacing and a rear wheel bearing. Bearing done, brought them an ignition switch from Easy after they told me they could only get one from Stuttgard and it was going to cost alot and there was going to be an even longer wait. Even after having the new switch which included having to rekey the car, my problems seemed fixed. I paid like $800 and didnt even get her all the way home. When i called they seemed unintrested in having me bring it back or any responsibility, and this was after several calls. Then I got this parking ticket for the car while it had been in their care. Appearently the $120+ an hour they chrage for labor to have them check my wiring turned into parking my car outside of an audio shop that they sub contracted for the job where they only charge $35 an hour, but i still got charged $120 and had to call them several time about the ticket which they eventually covered but my car still dont run. Since then I have found that i had a few ground wires that had been corroded causing most of my electrical issues. Something one might think would have been discovered by these mechanics , meaning I didnt need a new ignition switch which just happens to cost alot more in labor than it does even in parts. So bummed as its really hard to find a reputible porsche mechanic. Back to the drawing board, suggestions?? Id give a one star except they have been good to me in the past. read more

This is the kind of place where employees actually know what they are doing because they've been working here for years. Annual turnover at a franchised dealer is near 100%, so you get amateur work for top dollar; S Car Go is the opposite. The work on my car was top-notch and they were friendly and took time to explain what they were doing. FYI: They are happy to work on non-Porsches. You might get funny looks and snide comments from other customers (I did), but the staff isn't pretentious and they do good work even on American cars like mine. read more

Agreed. Rob King and his shop, S-CAR-GO, are the only reason why I drive Porsches. That's not to say that there aren't other shops across the U.S. that are similar. But in the Bay Area, I've found Rob to be a person I trust with my Porsches. I've owned a number of different Porsches - many of them coming over from Dawydiack in S.F. They find the beauties and Rob makes them just a little bit better every which way. It's a relationship that grows over time. He gets to know you and what you expect to get from your Porsche. Then he starts caring not just for the car - he addresses your needs for speed and every other aspect of performance including aesthetics. As for price, I've never found Rob's work to be over-priced. These guys are the best of the best and they earn every dollar spent because all are perfectionists with a ton of experience and knowledge.I think the assumption is that if you choose to drive a legend you already know that there's a price to maintain the beast properly. Think of it this way. Would you ever stand over a Porsche design engineer and say, "... hey, could you cut back a little on the quality so it's more affordable for the average driver?" I'm writing to update my first review of this shop. I was very pleased with the transmission work they did, but then the problem came back in a couple of months. Now, here is where a shop proves they have the rarest quality among shops: integrity. Rob, the owner, could have easily told me it was another component in the transmission, and charged me for additional parts and labor. He didn't. He went to such extremes to make sure I was happy, and did it all under warranty. When we talked after his diagnosis, he was honest about some issues with the previous repair and admitted that one of his techs made some errors during reassembly that caused damage to the inside of my transmission's case. At this point I'm sure he could have gone the cheap route and had the damage welded and put in minimal parts to get rid of the noise, but he used a phrase on the phone and said he was going to "make thing's right" for me. Neither of us had any idea of the obstacles that would be involved - between Porsche, his insurance company, and then FedEX!!! The details are almost unbelievable but Rob worked everything out and I ended up with a new transmission. Now the car drives better than it ever has, and I am so happy that Rob / S Car Go "made things right." Finding a shop with skills is hard enough, but with integrity...near impossible. I'm forever grateful and will be back next time something breaks. read more

They installed new tires on the car, a new clutch due to a previous owner, replaced a broken transmission mount, replaced a turbo badge, went through the entire car, had it smogged, installed necessary updates and took care of a few minor things. The repairs were 1/2 of what a dealership would charge! They washed the car too before picking it up! They do great work and use only the best of parts available. Is it possible you mark 6 stars for people that go the extra yard? I own all level of performance Porsches from 914-4, 914-6 to 911 Twin turbo. I have been going to Rob for years. I started once my first Turbo was out of warranty and I wanted to find a reliable shop I could trust. I believe if you have one reliable honest mechanic work on your car, then they are accountable and will watch out for you and the well being of your car. S-Car-Go has always done just that. They are very knowledge able and won't just fix the problem, they will make sure and remedy the cause. There are many mechanics that will follow what the 'book' just fixing the part that is broken. Then there is the guy who has done the job and million times and understands what CAUSED the problem. Only he can fix that issue in the most tried and true way. Sometimes thinking outside the box so you don't have that problem happen again. Yes, sometimes it's hard to hear you need to do something additional done like an alignment when you replace those tires, but otherwise you are going to replacing them again in 5k miles. I see in some of these other negative reviews on here. Let me address that. These are high performance sports cars people, they need to be cared for and sometimes that means you need to replace things that you didn't need to replace on your Honda Accord. If you wanted a Honda then, please, go buy one. Imagine you are in their shoes, someone brings in a car and thinks it just needs break pads and you have to explain it to them that their rotors are long overdue. How does that feel having delivering that message? And, no, Porsche parts aren't cheap, but trust me, they are quality. I considered Ferrari before Porsche. They are sexy, but you should take a look at their reliably and maintenance and you'll see why Porsches are such a bargain for the performance. Remember, you can always go buy a Honda, plenty fast, but not a Porsche by any stretch (Sorry pick on Hondas, they are nice cars also) In no way am I saying Porsches are money pits either. I bought a 993 Turbo new and drove it for 93,000 miles with only upkeep maintenance (oil, tire, break pad and one set of rotor changes....no, not even clutch replacement). With the one exception of needing to replace the power steering pump. This car was not a babied either, I drove the wheels off it on the street and track. Porsches are rock solid bullet proof cars if you maintain and take care of them. If you buy used one where the previous owner might have not taken all that good care of it and you might be catching up on their neglect issues (I've been there), but when you've caught up that car will be solid. Rob and his crew are honest and very knowledgeable, they will take good care of you and your car. S-Car-Go is not your cookie cutter glitzy shop with a beautiful waiting room with coffee and danishes, they are a bunch of in the trenches car guys that have it where it counts. They live and breathe with they do. They will diagnose your issues and give it to you straight. Sometimes it's not always what you want to hear, I know I've been there as well, but it's up to you on how you want to proceed. If you want to do nothing about their findings, that's your choice, but at least you know where you stand. Rob has always taken care of me and I always felt the job was done right (admittedly they are slow at times, but I'd rather not have a job rushed). You regulars may have noticed the local Porsche dealer's top mechanic and the only person at the dealer I trusted to touch my new Turbo now works at S-Car-Go and has for a couple years. Rob and his crew are very knowledgeable, I had extensive work done on my 993 turbo. Overall I am very displeased. My first complaint is that I asked to keep all the parts removed from my vehicle, and I only received some of them. And was not credited for the rest. I wasn't looking for anything other than to be treated fairly. Second, after only 3 track days I had problems with the two pully halves coming off during a driving event. After a mechanic inspected the vehicle, he confirmed it could have been avoided with some lock tight. After researching further I realized I could have saved about 15 k if I used another shop. I don't mind spending the money but my whole experience is reflected by the rating I posted. Imho you are better off sending your vehicle out of the area or out of state.it would be cheaper including transport and you would get the same resuts. Thumbs down, way down. I live a couple of hours away but never again if I can help it. After spending over 50k I would rather give my buisness to somebody who respects their customers. They are competant but you will spend more than is necessary. read more

It is common amongst us non-mechanics to have the stigma of feeling like we're going to get ripped off when we know something is wrong with our car and we need to visit a mechanic. This is especially true for foreign cars, in my case, Porsche. That feeling went away when my car was in the care of Rob and his team at S-Car-Go Racing. First and foremost, the customer service was second to none. The sheer honesty and professionalism was uncanny. Rob stayed in contact with me throughout the process and didn't try to up-sell me on things that I didn't need at the moment, like you would normally get at other shops. Instead, Rob and his expert advice guided me in the right direction, offered options and above all, worked with me to make sure my car was taken care of and I walked away happy. I've been to several shops and dealerships and because you drive a foreign car, they are compelled to mark up prices. This was definitely not the case with Rob. I am really glad his shop was recommended to me. I guess the power of word of mouth travels far because I live in the city and drove a distance to San Rafael but I would drive hours to have him work on my car because I know it will get done right and my car will be running as if it were brand new again. One last thing that was very cool and very unexpected (and unheard of in my opinion) was the fact that I got my car back from them, not only fixed, but also clean! I had a new clutch and my car got a nice wash! I could go on and on about how great of an experience I had but it is something you would have to experience for yourself. DO NOT take your car here!! The WORST service/experience EVER! Rob had our car for 3 months and when we finally got the estimate it was double what we had discussed. When we picked the car up, the side console panels were on the floor, the ignition switch was screwed up and the car stayed on when the key was removed AND the back floor mats were SOAKED...in the dead of summer! We are leaving on vacation tomorrow and now need to rent a car. It remains to be seen how they will handle our complaint, but the car should NEVER have been released to us in this condition.
