I am writing this review to warn others so they don't have to go through the same painful experience I did. I came here for a perm, and the owner recommended a "hot perm." Unfortunately, the process was a nightmare. During the service, I immediately felt intense heat and a stinging sensation on my scalp. When I told the owner it was too hot and that I was in pain, he dismissed my concerns. He told me it was "normal" and even claimed that if I didn't feel the heat, there would be something wrong with his tools. He told me not to worry, but because he didn't listen, I ended up with a burnt scalp and completely fried, damaged hair. A salon visit should never result in physical injury, and a stylist should never ignore a client's discomfort. I am now dealing with the painful aftermath of scalp burns and ruined hair. Please be very cautious and stay away if you value your hair health and safety. read more

I made a same day appointment through Yelp and they replied back instantly which was great! I got a hair cut and it was considered a long hair cut so I paid $40. That is also unbeatable pricing for a hair cut too compared to other salons. The inside was super clean and spacious. I'm not sure the name of the person cutting my hair but I am assuming he is Tony the owner. He asked what I wanted and he did exactly what I asked for. I kept it simple and didn't show any pictures but he still asked me how much I wanted taken off each time he made a big trim on my hair. I live on the Westside but I drive almost 1hr each way to come see Tony because he is that good! It's hard to find a hairdresser that I'm consistently satisfied with but I've been happy with Tony's work so far! His prices are also so reasonable for the quality of service that you get and Tony even goes above & beyond by offering water or snacks to customers. As others have mentioned, English isn't his first language but other bilingual customers in the store or Google Translate help to easily bridge that gap. read more

Unable to deliver the haircut, the ends were not blended and very choppy and blunt ends. A hair cut is not about mimicking another hair cut, but as a professional you should always make sure that if it's a layered cut, the ends blend in together if not styled. I went to Tony for the first time and had such a great experience! Some of the reviews mentioned a language barrier, and Tony himself mentioned in passing he doesn't speak English very well. But I had no issue -- I showed photos and he delivered exactly that. My hair looks completely refreshed, and this was the first time I told someone not to make my hair too short and they delivered! My length was exactly where I wanted it with some added layers for volume. The price was also great for the quality of the cut. The inside of the salon is so pretty and Tony even offered me water as I sat down. The service was top notch.e They only take either cash or Zelle, which wasn't an issue either. This is a place is a gem, hidden behind Starbucks on Atlantic and Valley in Alhambra. Tony is amazing! The first time I came here, I just showed him a picture of what I wanted and he delivered! I left very happy. Months later. I returned with my husband... Tony not only did an awesome job on my hair, but he cut my husbands hair also! Tony's prices great, ($65 for both of us!!!!) and he works like a hair magician. Hubs and I have gotten many compliments on Tony's fine work, and I'd definitely recommend this hair salon to anyone. I am extremely disappointed with the service at SK Salon. My wife went in for a haircut and the stylist, Tony, clearly told her she could come back one time for a free bang trim. When she returned for that trim, he started arguing about it and making a big deal as if she was asking for something unreasonable. This is not about the cost of a trim. It is about honesty and professionalism. If you tell a customer something, you should stand by it. Saying one thing and then refusing to honor it later shows a complete lack of integrity. Very unprofessional and disrespectful experience. EDIT* This is not a malicious review, it is an honest account of our experience. Reviews are meant for customers to share what happened. There was no discussion about specific time slots. The only statement made was that "no place would cut bangs for free," which directly contradicts what was originally told to us. Again this is not about the cost. It is about consistency and professionalism. If something is offered, it should be honored, or at least communicated clearly and respectfully. My first time getting a layered haircut from Tony was back in February 2025 when it was $30. I had an appointment at 9:30am and I was the only one there. He was so great cutting my hair and taking his time to make sure it came out perfect. I told myself I would definitely come back again for another haircut! But today, was completely the opposite of everything I experienced before. Yes, I made a last minute appointment and he told me to come at 11:45am so I was happy he was able to take me in which is why I gave him 3 stars. However, when I walked in, another lady was starting to sit on the chair and they (lady and Tony) stared at me wondering what to do. And also, Tony was helping another lady with a perm. The lady helped Tony translate on his behalf and the lady said she was late for her 11:30am appointment and if it was okay to get a haircut and it will take 15-20 mins. I said sure and he even provided soda for me while I waited. Well, I didn't sit down on the seat until 12:20pm. He took 20-25 mins to cut the ladies hair who had medium length hair. He did apologize for the inconvenience so I told him it was okay. But what I didn't like was that he RUSHED through my layered haircut this time. The lady before me, he took 20-25 mins. But for my very long layered haircut, he only 15 mins and didn't give me the after oil hair treatment that he usually runs through the hair after he is done. I definitely saw him do it for the previous lady before me. I felt like he rushed me because of the perm lady who was also waiting on him and the previous lady's friend that decided that she wanted to get a haircut after me. If he couldn't give me the quality care like the previous lady (probably because they spoke the same language), then please do not accept appointments and making me wait 30 mins for my haircut. Sad because this was going to be my go-to haircut and it was near home, but I must go look for a new salon now. Don't make the same mistake Tony and try to juggle 3-4 people at one time! The space felt clean and fairly new and the hairdresser, Tony was very nice and welcoming. I was able to speak with medium-proficiency mandarin and communicate with him, but I think regardless he would have understand what I wanted with a reference picture. I got long layers with front framing pieces - something he said most clients have came in asking for. I appreciated his honest opinion and him advising me that he would not cut it as short as I had originally planned because it would not look as nice. FIRST OFF, if you look at the note from the business. They speak 3 languages. Chinese, Cantonese and Viet. Fluently. If there is a language barrier outside of those three languages , please be patient and understanding to service workers. I was looking for a quick appointment and decided to call in. Thankfully Tony was able to squeeze my mum in that day. The haircut was great and he really understood how to cute and fit my mum's head shape. He was attentive and patient. Parking was a breeze and I was able to get some banh mi while I waited. I would recommend calling in just to see if Tony is free if you do decide to walk in since he is the only hair stylist on site and he does have a few clients. The store is clean and quiet with a nice seating area. He even has a little fridge with water which is perfect for this summer heat! Completely ruined my hair. I went in asking for long layers without removing any length. Tony initially followed what was request, and I was pleased at first. However, I noticed him kick something aside, which made me look back and realize it was a large ball of my hair. By then, it was too late to stop him. He removed a significant amount of healthy hair to thin it out without my consent. When he finished, my hair was extremely thin, and the volume I loved was completely gone. My hair is naturally curly, and this has significantly affected my curls. It will take years to regrow and repair what was done. Tony was kind, but I don't believe he has sufficient experience working with diverse hair types. His idea of beautiful hair seems to lean toward thin, sleek styles, and he attempted to turn my hair into that. I loved my thick, voluminous hair, and I was left devastated by the outcome. I'm writing this to offer advice to future client especially those with thick hair to be cautious, as he seemed to lack the necessary expertise.
