This guy is an absolute magician with color and hair! I've come to Tom before and have never been displeased. He did a white ombre for me the first time and this time did a burgundy balayage. It's fuhreaking gorgeous, vibrant, and I'm in love! There's a reason why he has so many reviews and why he's so busy. Tom's been doing this for years, and really understands hair and how to color it so that it lasts, it's not damaging to your hair, and is something you're happy with. I walked in with blonde ends, and he took about 4 hours to bleach some hair sections, do a hair treatment, dye it, cut it, and style it. Super friendly, speaks English and Mandarin fluently, and asked me multiple times if I wanted food or water. Tom is 100% my hair guy from now on. Don't be discouraged if you don't get an appointment right away, he's probably busy with a customer. Try contacting him again, I promise it is absolutely worth it! Thank you Tom!! (:
My usual go to hair stylist was fully booked NYE week so I was trying to find a stylist who works with Asian hair on Yelp and came upon Tom. Tom was able to accommodate me last minute since he still had a few openings left, which was great. He's works at the Envy Hair Salon, which is located in the old Le Abre Plaza. So I gave Tom some pictures of what I wanted, a smokey dark gray silver. He said he got it and started working on my hair. 5 hours later of bleaching & coloring, he was done. To say I was surprise was an understatement :( I wanted my hair ALL dark gray silver, didn't get it. I didn't have the heart to tell him cuz it was already midnight and I didn't want him to work any later on NYEE. T_T Also the pricing was more expensive than what I usually pay for the amount of work done.
My hair was in dire need of a makeover and Tom did not disappoint! I actually wasn't sure what I wanted before coming but knew that my black hair needed a transformation and I wanted something that would pop on its own but not too wild. I showed him a picture for like 2 seconds and he nailed it! He is so meticulous and professional and doesn't take any shortcuts. I was very surprised when I first looked in the mirror, but I absolutely love it and have gotten so many compliments on my hair! Will definitely go back to him for a touch up or if I want to change it up again.
Tom always delivers. I only trust him with my hair. He takes his time, and is so sweet. My family has been coming to Tom for 5 years now and will continue to come to him. Love my hair every time. THANK YOU TOM
I recently got married and wanted to change up my hair. I had waist-length hair and wanted to go quite short. When I showed up, he was cutting another male's hair. So his assistant did the shampooing and conditioning; he was really cool and funny, I liked him. After getting my hair shampooed, I showed Tom my inspo photo and he said OK. I was hesitant to go short so he gave me a little bit more length initially so that I would be comfortable. COOL. Now here's the issue, I was wearing glasses and had to take off my glasses so that he could have full access to my head of hair. I would pop my glasses on every so often to check the progress. I thought that he was done so I put my glasses on, and gave the OK for the length and style. I thought that he was almost done and was just doing the finishing touches I left my glasses off. During this time Tom got REALLY scissor happy and was vigorously thinning my hair out. His assistant had to sweep up my hair 3 times because of the amount of hair that he was thinning off of my head. Tom kept saying "you have too much hair, I should charge you more" in a joking way. But, he and his assistant kept laughing with how much hair was coming off my head. I was naive and kept my glasses off not and thought that he would stop at some point, but kept on going. By the time I put my glasses on, my hair was not what I asked for. I was in shock, so I paid, tipped, and left. The next day my hair looked worse. It was like a mullet with weird straggly pieces. People kept saying it doesn't look THAT bad. But, it doesn't look good, and absolutely looks nothing like the inspo photo. I am still in shock about what happened to my hair. $65 for the cut. I tipped both him and his assistant.
I love my short hair! It's not easy finding a stylist that cuts short hair well and I found it! Tom knew exactly what I wanted.
I went to Tom a couple times and each time the service has been less and less attentive. Anyway, I don't care too much about service as long as the quality is good. The last couple times were still ok. However I just went last week and he rushed the whole process because he was so busy. The end product was so bad I had to immediately go to another hairdresser the next day (before I decided to write this review so I didn't take a photo). First he misunderstood what I wanted this time despite having no problem the previous times. So I wanted to touch up my new growth so it matched my bleached balayage ends without further bleaching the ends and then tone the whole thing so it looks cohesive and the end isn't too brassy. He had no problem doing this previously. But this time he was so busy he barely spoke to me. There were 2 on-going color job when I came. He decided to just make my end darker and color the new growth a little lighter to match them. Then he mixed the dye and gave it to an assistant to put on my hair. When i realized that something seemed off and asked the assistant why we are putting color before bleaching she obviously didn't know why. Then it's all too late. He did come back to color my end and told me I should bleach the very end more so I told him okay. But then he didn't do it because he didn't allot enough time. Well, let's just said the color didn't look blended in. To add more insult to the injury, he gave me some of the worst haircut of my life this time (but not previously). He and his assistant kept asking me if I DIDN'T want a haircut which I told him no I did. Then he proceeded to give me the worst haircut (actual cut time was less than 5 mins and I have A LOT of hair so just imagine the level of details he was doing). He then just started applying finishing oil without even asking me if I wanted to trim my bang. He didn't even style my hair or even straighten it properly (he did some very rough straightening with the round brush before cutting). Normally he would style my hair properly after cutting but now he packed his appointments so much I guess he had no time to do so because another client came. He then rushed my ass out to pay. At this point, i was pretty upset so I just paid and left. Normally I didn't have a problem paying him $400 + tip. Total this time was $180 + tip BUT honestly it was a huge ripoff. I'm sad I have to find a new colorist now but I rather do that than ever going back to this place.

Came in today with an idea of wanting some type of balayage and left so so amazed! Absolutely loved the color he went with and he was very communicative of what his thought process was! The space was nice, and I had fun talking to him while he did my hair. Both him and his assistant were very attentive and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Love it so much! read more

Tom and his team are the only people I trust to handle my hair!! It is by appointment only, but Tom is very quick to respond! The quality and service offered is always unmatched compared to other salons in the area. Tom takes his work seriously, and takes in consideration what you want + adding input on ways to improve your look. read more

Tom did an amazing job on my hair! I hadn't done anything to it for over 12 years, so I was stuck between keeping it natural or doing something different. I chose to do something different for once I have no regrets, everybody loves my new hair! I previously had just natural black/brown hair and this definitely brought it to life! read more

After going to 3 different salons who failed to lighten my hair enough plus failed to make my hair ash brown/blonde, i decided to call Tom to save my hair after all the great reviews and pics from fellow yelpers. I am so glad I came to him. I have never been happier with my hair in years! He may not look like the type to be a hair stylist but sure has great passion, knows modern techniques and has many years of experience. Need i say more? Place was nice, bright and clean. Parking is plenty and near plenty of restaurants. Since this type of coloring takes at least 5-7hrs on the chair, i was hungry. He sent his assistant to get food and got me food as well! So I got a happy tummy + happy hair = one happy customer. I have to admit that the price was quite costly and the most I have ever paid for hair...EVER. Although i can't justify if its worth that much, i was tired of looking at my ugly brassy gold hair, tired of other stylist not able to get me results past 3times, i was done. So I can truly say that for me this time at least, it definitely was worth it. Thank you for the great work and beautiful hair! I would recommend Tom for color and cuts. I came to him for ash blonde highlights (and prior visit for a trim). He did a great job. I like the care and attention to detail he puts into his work. Thanks Tom! I'll be back!! read more

Tom Tran worked with my budget and did an amazing job! I had purple highlights two years ago and it faded and became blonde highlights, and my hair was in dire need of a refresh since I cut my own hair last year and didn't end up coloring my hair since I went purple. In my request to Tom, I wanted multi-dimensional hair color without the balayage price, but when I got there, he wanted to do balayage on my hair and worked with my budget. I still tipped him on the full value because he did a great job with it! I'll definitely be coming back because Tom does amazing work! read more

Tom Tran you are indeed an professional. He accomodate my last minute appointment and I thank him for that! It was a bit pricey but dang! you did magic on my hair. Love it and I am satisfied. There was no smell and my scalp was not itchy ( i usally have mild reaction with hair dye) and they really rinse the hair good. The product they used is good because I dont smell anything like amonia, chemicals, etc. My hair smells good after. I would consider coming back in the future. I also like the person who washed and shampooed my hair ( I forgot to asked his name) he did extra scalp massage. He was nice and did amazing on providing customer service. "You get what you pay" Nice salon, clean and the atmosphere is very Asian vibes which I really like. Love their asian music which was mellow and relaxing during that time. read more

Wow! Tom is amazing! He took my home-bleached, unevenly dyed hair that I totally messed up and tried to use clarifying shampoo to fix...and made it exactly the balayage blonde that I needed as I try to look like an adult for my impending return to in-office corporate life. Tom made my dry, damaged hair look so healthy and shine. I'm not sure how he did it - but it looks and feels magical! Make sure you text for an appointment and, if you can, send in some idea photos so he knows what you're looking for. It'll help him prepare for your visit and make sure you're getting what you want. First of all- Envy Hair just remodeled and it looks amazing with new lighting and fixtures. If you haven't seen it since, come by to check it out! Back at it with my new color update! Came back for my annual balayage color- went with medium ash brown as Tom recommended. Initially was going to do a warmer color, but Tom suggested with going with Ash first then I can tone it to a warmer color next time (otherwise will need to re-bleach to obtain an ashy color). I always trust Tom and went with what he suggested. It'll be a great color to go with for the fall/winter season as well. For those who never gotten a balayage- it does take some time! Approximately 5-6 hours (this time includes a cut too), but always- ALWAYS worth it! I love the cut and color. I saw some reviews that complained about Tom replying back, but I never had any issues. He has always gotten back to me within the day, and sometimes just 10 min! Just remember that Tom is only one hair stylist with so many clients! Even during my few hours here, there were multiple calls and texts. Please be patient as he is working while trying to schedule in his clients. I always recommend my friends to schedule out 1-2 weeks if you want weekday or weekend appointments, respectively. (My appointment today was booked a month in advance!) read more

Tom was very nice and worked around my schedule even though some things came up and I had to cancel on him twice. My hair was a complete disaster prior to coming to him and he spent 4-5 hours color correcting my hair before coloring it ash brown! His assistant, Bryan, was super friendly and really sociable. He even offered to get me a baguette even though I insisted I wasn't hungry! He and Tom made me feel at home and felt like we've known each other for awhile even though it was our first time meeting. I'm really happy I came across Tom on Yelp and he was so patient in fixing my hair. I love how my hair turned out and the 6 hours there was completely worth it! read more

I haven't had my hair dyed during COVID and was in dire need of a haircut. I wanted to do a major change in my hair and luckily I found Tom. His reviews on Yelp were positive but what caught my eye was how many had mentioned that he listened. I've decided to text him letting him know the type of colors I'm thinking and cut. Booking an appointment was easy and on the day of the appointment, Tom was there. I had shown him originally 3 types of colors I wanted to try which were lavender/purple, platinum blonde, and pink. I wanted platinum blonde in the end but was open to suggestions or ideas he had. He had suggested I try lavender silver as the color would look good on my skin tone (I'm beige w/ dark brown hair). He was patient in explaining the process and my hair texture (I have fine hair) and he wanted to avoid dying my roots as it will damage. And so, hesitant but giving him my trust, I let Tom do his thing. He didn't bleach my roots and instead went for an ombre effect. During my appointment, Tom was very professional, easy to talk to, and was very communicative throughout the process. Seven hours later, my hair came out so pretty, I was so happy! The price was a bit high but you definitely pay for a professional and I would definitely come back. The salon was really clean, bright and everyone was really friendly and nice. Parking is super easy and it is located inside the plaza past Tip Top Sandwiches. Again, I definitely would recommend Tom as he's very communicative and so honest. Seven hours later and he never once made me feel like he was rushing me and my hair is super soft, shiny, not breakage from the bleach. Definitely a happy camper! read more

Tom is an absolute gem! He is everything you would want in a stylist: Professionalism and Honesty. The process was very straight forward. I texted him pictures of my current hair and what I wanted. He quoted me the price and stuck to it when I was finished. No extra cost surprises! My hair is very stubborn when it comes to getting it colored, so I knew this was going to be an all day process. Tom made sure I was comfortable throughout the day. He even picked up an iced coffee for me from a few stores down! If you're looking for a stylist, Tom is your man. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. *This review was not pushed like a lot of other salons. I honestly just think he's awesome and deserves the praise! read more
