We retired a car through the BAR program. I called a few times and always got helpful explanations. When we arrived there was a short wait but were helped by a very polite and cheery lady. We filled out paperwork and we're directed to the cashier one block away. Done in about 20minutes, easy and pleasant for this purpose. read more

I don't get the reviews about customer service. This isn't a five star hotel, or a day spa. It's metal recycling. I didn't expect a welcome wagon or a how are you. It's was fast and businesslike and what else do you need from recycling? I brought my car in for the BAR program. Was in and out in 20 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon in November. They are seeing about 3 to 4 cars a day so shouldn't be a lengthy process. read more

So currently sitting in the parking lot stunned by the horrible service I just received. I'm interested in getting rid of my car but I needed more information. After calling over 10 times and no one answered I drove down here, walked up to the prison looking window and the lady just looked at me! No hello, no hi, no how can I help you, NOTHING, so I starred at her back (I'm not the one at work) and then she finally said "yes", as of I was bothering her! Long story short, horrible customer service, they never answer the phone and I would never consider using them, ever! Sucks I even had to provide one star, they are not worthy of that one star! Thinking that i got ripped off when i got home i called them to ask how much they are paying for scrap copper wire The girl that answered told me they are paying $1.50 per pound. Very good experience retiring my vehicle under the BAR CAP program here. They were very efficient and pleasant to speak with. I arrived around 7:30am on a Tuesday and there was nobody at the 3202 Main St. address, which is apparently an empty, shack-like building, but I eventually realized that the main building behind the fencing was open and the cashier there told me to enter on the Bryant St. entrance, off Main St. after 8:00am. There were no information signs on the outside fencing or the empty 3202 Main St. building. The entire process took about fifteen minutes after I drove in and veered left toward the building and onto the weigh scale. The attendant had me move the car to the side of the scale after she recorded its weight and then my documents were processed quickly. She directed me to walk with the approval documents to the cashier at the main building, where I only waited another five minutes before I was holding the check. My only suggestion would be for some signs located on the fencing telling people in the BAR CAP vehicle retirement program the actual hours and how to get to the scale area via the Bryant St entrance. read more

I work in the Repair and Maintenance field. I save up all the old materials I replace, and periodically bring all that old stuff in for recycling. Usually I go to the Allan Company on Convoy Street. They are usually helpful, and pay a fair price for my recyclables. I decided to bring my scrap copper to SA this time because I had an old vehicle that I was bringing there to scrap. My first problem with their customer service was that the kid working there started to weigh my Romex and my individual electrical wires together. I had taken my time to carefully separate them because the individual wires pay more per pound because they have a higher copper content. I ended up having to argue with this kid that my wires were not all Romex. He still insisted on throwing the cloth wrapped wires in with the Romex--which is not correct, but I only had a little bit of that, so I didn't push the issue. Second, I had separated my bare copper into the different grades. The kid told me that my "Bright and Shiny" was only #1 Copper. Again I only had a little of the "B & S," so I let him put it in with the other #1 Copper. I should have watched him more carefully, though, because when I checked the receipt later, he had priced all of it as #2 Copper. In addition, SA only paid $1.25 per pound for the #2 Copper. This seemed low, so I called The Allan Company, and checked their prices: $2.16 for #1 Copper, and $1.95 for #2 Copper. The only reason for two stars is that the transaction with the car went alright. Not great, but, at least they paid what they said they would (which seemed a bit low to me, but I couldn't find any dismantlers that would take it, and I live in a Smog exempt part of the County, so the State won't pay me for it). read more

Had to get rid my old 90 integra, it was just a shell no motor no interior no nothing just all metal so called here and the woman who answered the phone was very helpful so within an hour I came over and was pleased with her service. Dont know her name but she has lo g highlighted hair and a half sleeve on the left arm. ANYWAYS I Had the car weighed and although it was only recycling of a penny per pound it was just easier when there is great customer service made the visit worth it. zero stars... most unprofessional and rude workers here. just got here and i know it will be a long day... first off the cashier was somewhat helpful by pointing us in the right direction, but once we got to the weighing scale, thats where it went downhill. i went to the restroom (portable toilet) and after using it, a lady came out and yelled at me saying it wasn't for customers. there was no sign and i said i was sorry and i didn't know. then she opened it and told me to clean it! I took my old car here last Friday for dismantling, via the state CAP program. There are no signs telling people where to go amidst all the recycling chaos. When I inquired at the cashier window, I was told "we haven't done that in 9 years." I almost left, then decided to ask someone else, who pointed me toward the giant yellow posts, where there are a vehicle scale and processing booth. I waited in line, only to be told they couldn't accept an out-of-state title, that I would have to get a junk title from the DMV. I went home, and sent an email to the company about my experience. I received a prompt reply from a regional manager, who followed up with the San Diego location, and I was spared a trip to the DMV. Much appreciated. I returned on Monday, and was there for 2-1/2 hours, most of the time spent waiting for them to do the paperwork. Two people ahead of me waited 3 hours. This is because SA's priority is the trucks that come through with loads, and it was a busy day, with only one employee. The experience could have been somewhat improved with a little communication from that employee - no status updates, no time estimates, nothing. Unfortunately, they're the only game in town for the vehicle retirement program. My recommendations: 1) Question any information they give you. 2) Don't make any plans for the day you take your car in. read more
