Does size matter? Maybe... What Saba Grill's lamb shank lacked in heft, made up in flavor and texture. One of the most meltingly tender lamb shanks I've had. But more on that later. Saba Grill opened sometime in May 2025 and seems to be a rebrand of Stone Stew's second location. There's a Saba Grill banner outside but we were given Stone Stew's menu (not the Saba one online). Currently open for takeout and indoor dining only. M E N U Persian Cuisine - array of apps/salads, stews, wraps, and kebabs. Halal meats. There's a "weekend breakfast" menu of kale pache (lamb head & trotters) and zaban (lamb tongue) but sadly, the weekend menu wasn't available on Saturday. F O O D * Complimentary Persian Flatbread w/ butter Served warm, the flatbread was crisp on the outside with a good chew. * Lamb Shank w/ baghali polo: Lamb shank, basmati rice, dill, fava beans ($23.99): https://tinyurl.com/m8wf55hs Our fav dish of the two, the slow braised lamb shank was so soft, meltingly tender, and aromatic. Just wish it was meatier. Served with a heaping portion of fluffy baghali polo with a nice tang and sweet nutty flavor from the dill and fava beans. So delicious and comforting. * Koobideh Kabob w/ rice, tomato ($21.99): https://tinyurl.com/bdf5thmz - Requested juicy Unfortunately, the koobideh (ground beef kabob) was quite overdone and dry. It seems the chef sliced into the koobideh to check its doneness resulting in the juices running out. Served with fluffy basmati rice crowned with saffron rice and a juicy charred tomato. S E R V I C E Prompt. A M B I A N C E Cozy and rustic with pops of color; 8 tables and booths. Restroom is outside the building. P A R K I N G Private parking lot. Overall, we really enjoyed the lamb shank and baghali polo. If in the DTSJ area again, we would return for their weekend breakfast menu.

I was saddened to find out about the change of ownership. I certainly liked the hostess that used to work there for her exceptional customer focused service. She knew what my kids liked to eat and would come to confirm with them they still wanted their favorites. Fast forward to now, we walk in and are greeted by a sweet lady with a big smile. We have a nice conversation about the change of ownership and to my surprise, the menu has not changed. Good and bad. Good, because I knew exactly what to order. Bad, because I had hoped they added new items to try. There is a better! Better because the intend we ordered clearly tasted better I mean, I felt like I visited Tehran and was sitting at a friends house enjoying a meal cooked by his sweet grandmother. Now, I would suggested to them to add new menu items and create a following of Persian food addicts. Let be their leader. The restaurant look and feel is the same as before... nice small and cozy little room with about 8-10 tables. Usually it's not too busy and the food tends to come out pretty quickly. Visit this nice little gem in downtown SJ and thank me later. Actually, thank the new owners who are doing a great job! Lots of Algerian love! Cherif

Like the food. Good portion and testy. Nice people. Didn't charge me for extra food. Thanks

This place has free parking in downtown which is a huge plus. The server was nice. The food was okay but it definitely needed a yogurt sauce not sure if they just forgot to give it to me. Plenty of in door seating.

    chicken kabob

Authentic Persian food! So glad to have a spot that reminds me of my family's cooking. We ordered the Chicken and Koobideh kabobs -- both were delicious! The rice was buttery, and the Persian salad brought back childhood memories. Service was quick, prices were reasonable, and while the interior is a bit rustic, it just adds to the charm. It's nice to see mom-and-pop restaurants still going strong.

wow words do not do…read morejustice to this meal. some of the tastiest food in the south bay is in an incredibly unassuming restaurant next to the VTA station. Jubba is serving up some of the best food i've ever had. As a newbie to somali food, I am now hooked. we came in on a friday around 6:15 and there was a steady group of people enjoying their food. we ordered at the counter and took a seat outside to enjoy the weather 1 Sambusa 1 chicken wrap 1 beef plate the sambusa arrived first and initially I thought Samosa in my head. But the sambusa has a better structure, holding its shape after multiple bites. the Dough is softer but still crispy. it came with beef , chilies and other vegetables. so so good. the perfect appetizer for us. it came with a spicy green sauce that seemed to be the common sauce for every dish then the stars of the show. The sizzling hot beef plate served with veggies, rice and a salad was unbelievable. add on a lemon and some more greens sauce and you're in for a treat. the rice alone was so flavorful and it tasted like there was meat drippings on top. the beef was so tender and fell apart in 1 bite. I was blown away with the dish the chicken wrap... man. I'm not sure what kind of bread, pita was used but it was fantastic. a huge wrap with lettuce, onion chicken, sauce and other veggies. It was so messy and hard to eat with your hands so we resorted to eating with a fork and knife. Unreal. Unreal. massive portions again which are a theme here. But holy smokes this was so good. The chicken has a nice char, but is also juicy and saucy. the spongy pita neutralizes the bombardment of flavor from the meat, and the veggies compliment everything with some crunch and texture. Service was great and very helpful. They were extremely friendly and a delight to talk with. We will be back 5/5

My Gen Y friends rate it 3.5 stars while my old buddy and I give it a solid 4. Food (3.5-4 stars) + The chicken wrap ($11-14) was the star: huge, flavorful, and the two sauces--spicy green and creamy white yogurt based sauce--made it even better. + Sambusa appetizer ($3) was fantastic. It's like a samosa with meat and various spices filling. It's better than many Indian ones I've had. ~ Sports Plate ($35-44) was large and tasty, with tender beef atop yellow rice and those same great sauces. Great spices but it's lacking some heat. I wonder if we can get it spicy? ~ Beef suqaar ($17-26) was just okay--flavors a bit standard and the meat a bit tough. It comes with a choice of starch I think. We picked the jeera which is like a crepe/tortilla. This dish is like an African version of Fajitas. Service/Ambiance (3 stars) + They bring the food to the table after you order at the counter. ~ The ambiance feels a bit dated, more '80s strip mall than cozy, but it's a unique, authentic experience. - No free water--bottled water ($1-2) or soft drinks only. We had a great time, but next time, I'll bring my own water!

So, I've unfortunately been passing it over. I finally decided to try it out and I was in for a treat. I got the chicken kebab plate as the sandwich board right out side the door suggested, along with a side of fries to go. The fries were crispy with a ting of spice and delicious. But the star of the show was the kebab for sure. Meaty, plump, flavorful, definitely one of the outstanding chicken kebabs in town. Lot of places give you a dry, flaky kebabs but here, it's been cooked to the perfect amount of juiciness. The rice was also butterly and flavorful. Good pita, hummus and the vegetables too. It might feel a little pricey (but everything else is too nowadays), but they give you a nice filling portion. The staffs are very nice and attentive. Clean, fun, colorful interior. I'd love to dine in next time. I'm definitely coming back for more, I want to try the loaded fries wraps, and the kanafeh next time around. The location's and the parking access is not the best, so I really hope Manakish gets all the attraction and attentions it deserves!

I love a good tea leaf salad, but I do not like peanuts. I wish this establishment let you make notes or had an option for no peanuts. I ended up having to pick them all out which wasn't a big deal. But it was slightly annoying. Otherwise I enjoyed the flavors of the fermented tea leaf. I want more jalapenos and lemon for contrast. Luckily I had those items at home to add. That was the problem with the falafel wrap, too: the menu promised hummus, cabbage & tomatoes salad, and pickled turnips, but those ingredients weren't anywhere to be seen. There was some lettuce instead, but lettuce is a poor substitute as it just becomes immediately soggy and adds no flavor. If you've ever had falafel in Israel, you will be disappointed by the falafel here, unfortunately. (Israeli falafel shops each make at least a dozen toppings from family recipes, so you put as many veggies and sauces in as you can to create a flavor party in your mouth.)

When it was taking longer than expected, I walked back up to them and asked what the status of the order was and they told me that they accidentally gave away my order to a doordasher and that they called him and told him to bring it back so they could give it to me. I'm very disappointed in this practice for a few reasons - at no point did they let me know this transparently, and if I hadn't asked about it, I assume they would have just given me an order that some stranger already drove off with, which is unsanitary, not to mention that my food would be cold. It's also unreasonable to expect that a customer would accept food that someone else drove off with. On top of this, the food took way too long for obvious reasons. Instead of suggesting an appropriate alternative like them remaking the meal they expected me to take the food that passed through someone else's hands. I told them I need a refund because that's a disgusting suggestion. The food here is quite good so I'm very disappointed and reluctant to give this place a bad review, but it's inexcusable to do this in my opinion and doesn't speak well as to the other hygiene practices of this business.
