This used to be a fabulous place to dine out. Last night we had reservations for 5 people which one was a special needs young adult. The wait staff took a very long time to seat us even though only 1 table was occupied. Our waitress was courteous and informative but the positives ended there. The prices were very high for what they offered, the garlic noodles were covered in salt and not very tasty, the relish tray was a small scattering of a few vegetables that seemed like left overs and our food took 40 minutes from time we ordered. It was certainly a disappointment from what this restaurant used to be. Hopefully this was an off night but I will not be in a hurry to return. read more

Absolutely love this restaurant! I went to SUNY Potsdam and was up for a reunion. We made a reservation and went with some friends and we decided to COME BACK the other two nights of the trip. So welcoming, very kind and attentive staff and the food was FAR above our expectations. Sitting at the bar after dinner was a delight. the bar tender was very fun and I wish her the best. I hate to do this, but after the mediocre experience my dad and I had here on our most recent visit, I feel it incumbent on me to warn my fellow Yelpers not to make the same mistake I made. As I stated in my first review, this place is known for its prime rib. Yes, as Krys P. points out, the menu is probably 90% Italian, but in the 10-20 times I've been here, I've never ordered anything for my main course other than the prime rib. I learned on my most recent visit that the restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. No big deal. It's the North Country, as we call it, and this place is in the middle of nowhere. I don't expect this to be a 7 days/week operation. That said, I was scheduled to fly back home Thursday morning, so I was left with no choice but to go on Wednesday night. Is the fact that they're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays what I want to warn you about? No. What I want to warn you about is this: If you like your prime rib RARE like I do, as in still mooing, slap the cow on the ass rare, call ahead to make sure they've got it. Dad and I got there last night looking forward to a rare occasion (pun intended), but before our server even came back to deliver us the bad news, dad was already queezy about the possibility of getting Sunday's leftover prime rib. He was right. Our server told us the best they could do for us on the prime rib temperature was medium, so we reluctantly agreed knowing full well we were getting it well done. Our server, though pleasant, tried to tell us the rib was slow cooked the previous day for 24 hours, but you can't BS two guys who practically eat for a living, have decades of combined restaurant experience, and know more about beef than some butchers. As an aside, if the rib was in fact cooked the previous day, how in the world of all cows who died in vain does a chef with 30+ years experience overcook it? Well, easily, if it was cooked for 24 hours, as the server suggested. Dad was nicer than I was, saying that the beef was still tender despite being overcooked. At least the rib still had that perfect seasoning. So as not to get stuck with two cuts of well done prime rib, we opted to get the Delmonico. The steak was cooked perfectly, but had no seasoning whatsoever and lacked that caramelization I anticipate for a crunchy texture. Dad and I debated this one and both concluded there's no right or wrong way; I just prefer a little creativity. As for the cabbage noodles, they were good, but the noodles were overcooked. The complimentary relish tray was wilting a bit, almost as if wrapped in the fridge on Sunday night and pulled back out during our stop on Wednesday. The complimentary french bread that used to be soaked in butter and garlic has since been replaced by garlic knots that do not appear to be made on site. The only two saving graces to this particular dining experience were the delicious, generously portioned crab legs and the hand cut fries, which I wanted with gravy, but they didn't have any. I hope I'm wrong, but Sabad's may be going down a slippery slope. IF and when I go back, it will most definitely not be on a Wednesday. read more

This is one of the few great restaurants in the area. This is my second time eating here since moving from Atlanta, GA and both meals have been great. My husband and shared the prime rib and the shrimp scampi. The scampi had such a good flavor, the sauce was perfect and the shrimp was not overcooked. The prime rib was a generous serving size and cooked just right. Our server, Emma was great and very attentive. If you haven't been in, you should check them out. We will definitely be back!! By far the best restaurant in Northern N.Y. I dined here with my family recently for a very special occasion and we all really enjoyed our experience. Pro's of the Restaurant: - Nice Bar layout - Great Dining Room, and separate private dining room - Good Quality Food - Approachable menu with lot's of great offerings - Nice Signature touches (the noodles and the pre-set cole slaw, etc on the table) - Approachable, and Affordable Wine List - Very Friendly Staff (including a very charming bartender) - Reasonable prices for the Quantity and Quality of the food. - Nice Local Craft Beer selection - in particular, we enjoyed the Lake Placid IPA. Suggested areas of improvement: - When you turn off the light in the men's restroom, it turns off the bar light - Very poor setup, and an easy fix. - The artwork in the private dining room is dated New York City photos. My suggestion is to update the artwork to local Northern New York photos. This place is no where near New York City and should not try and emulate it. The best part of this place is to get away from the City and enjoy a local Country Dining Experience. - Upgrade your glassware - Red Wine Glasses should be larger, and different from the White Wine glass. Beers should be served in a nicely chilled tall glass. - Have a server assistant or a 2nd server on larger parties so that the service is more efficient and seamless. Less delays during the courses. - The Coconut Shrimp appetizer comes with a plastic container (like the ones you get at Wendys or Burger King). This should be placed in a nice white ramekin. Hate to do this but here goes - 1st time there under this ownership, family dinner, two couples. For starters they messed up our reservation, no big deal didn't need one anyway, the place was empty on a Saturday @ 5pm. Waitress was decent, but started off reading things to us that they were out of, pretty scary since the menu choices are very limited anyway. All 4 of us were very disappointed with our choices after they came. 2 people ordered $34 surf and turf which it clearly stated on the menu was sirloin steak and scallops. Both people thought the sirloin was tiny and tough and in some orange tasting sauce that had seemed quite odd, scallops were good. 1 person ordered a delmonico steak that didn't include a side so ordered fries. It was the toughest $34 medium rare steak ever eaten ($38 with fries, no salad, no sides with any of our meals). I tried a piece of the sirloin and it was far more tender than the delmonico. The 4th person ordered alfedo, it came with pieces of asparagus sprinkled all over the top giving it a strange flavor. The relish tray was a nice touch, I guess, but not even enough on it for all 4 of us to sample, garlic bread was good. We tried to laugh everything off, had a good time, just probably won't go back unless it can't be avoided. If we do go back, we're all ordering chicken parm as it looked really good on the table next to us, apparently they've been here before, lol. We took all left overs home for our dog. read more

I've been to Sabad's several times over the years, and never had a bad meal. If you're not going on a Saturday, it's definitely a four-star pick in my book. Unfortunately, Saturday nights seem to always be overbooked and understaffed. We ate here last night when I was in town for a relative's birthday, part of a group of ten that was seated next to a group of ~15-20. For the first twenty minutes, we couldn't get anyone to wait on us, and we were short a couple napkins and menus. The waitress assigned to the room, overwhelmed by the other table shouting a continuous stream of orders at her, addressed us with a bit of a 'tude at first. Once we got through our drink orders however, things improved dramatically. Everything else came about as on-time as you can expect for a group that large being served by only one waitress. Once the other table cleared out, our waitress's mood improved dramatically. I ordered the Seafood Luigi, which was cooked in a very subtle white wine sauce over linguini with scallops, shrimp, and calamari. Both the scallops and the calamari (cut very thin here) are easy to overcook, but both turned out just right. The shrimp are jumbo and were also cooked just right. So while the service can be frustrating on busy nights, the food has always been worth four stars -- especially by North Country standards. read more

Great restaurant! One of the best in North Country. The ambience of the restaurant is very charming and home-like, and they are very generous with how much food is served. In particular, I loved how many [free] delicious appetizers were given---namely the garlic knots, relish tray, and cabbage noodles. The cabbage noodles were amazing! For my main entree, I ordered the prime rib with a baked potato (as recommended by my colleagues) and I was very, very pleased. The meat was nice and tender, and very tasty. We had been a customer for many years and had not been back since the pandemic started. So was excited to go for a prime rib dinner last Saturday. The menu I found online had a wide range of entrees,as we were used to and showed Prime rib for $24. The dining room and bar were as we remembered. We were disappointed to find out from the hostess that they didn't serve prime rib and the menu provided had significantly less items on it. In addition, I was shocked at the prices and to see entrees came with no sides (other than bread and relish tray) and were offered for an additional $4. We decided to stay and give it a try. My husband and I each ordered surf and turf. A 9 oz sirloin and 6 scallops $34. Plus fries $4 =$38 Food was cooked as requested but my husband had to request a sharper knife to cut the steak. Fries while cooked well, had way too much salt on them. We split one order and ate about half of them. The scallops were cooked in a sauce that has an almost citrus taste that wasn't appealing. First time, and last time. The plus was the stuff. I believe one of the owner's sat us, and then we had Hannah as our server. Both were extremely nice; Hannah was charming and constantly checked on our status. The food tasted as old as the decor, which was pretty dated. The restaurant is spacious, but antiquated. Of food, first up was the complimentary relish tray, which consisted of pickled cabbage, beets, and fresh out the can black olives. It felt odd eating relish without any sort of dish. This set up was interesting, but out of touch with the menu (menu is 90% Italian). Garlic bread was also served-- much better than the relish. Next were our appetizers. I had mushrooms stuffed with crab, topped with cheese; my partner had French onion soup. The cheese over-powered the mushroom and crab, and the dish was sitting in a ton of oil. Not really recommending it. My partner's soup was deemed as okay, but best in the area. Salads, followed by cabbage noodles. I had a Cesar salad, and it was tasty. Not too tangy, not swimming in dressing; the romaine was crisp. The croutons were soggy, as I'm guessing the salad had been sitting in the fridge most of the day. Noodles on the other hand had a gummy consistency. Most likely precooked and then reheated. Would be so much better is fresh. I ordered the seafood Luigi. Oh boy. So, there's scallops, calamari, and shrimp in the dish, atop a pasta in a white wine sauce. The seafood itself was cooked perfectly-- but barely seasoned, something most of the food, especially seafood, in the are suffers from. The pasta was al dente! but was swimming in pasta water. Honestly, if there was a white wine sauce it was drowned out by all the water. My first bite, I tasted some parsley, and some other herb-- that was gone from further tastes. My partner had the filet mignon special, topped with a blue cheese sauce; it was also an odd beast. The outside of the steak tasted and felt like liver, and was tough, dry; as you traversed deeper into the steak, you found something resembling and tasting like a medium rare steak. Our guess was the steak was precooked, and then reheated. Not terrible, but not exactly recommended. FInally, dessert! A 3 layer chocolate mousse cake, that would have been rich and fulfilling had it not been drenched in something that tasted like Hershy's chocolate syrup. Cake was probably store bought, as they do have other items listed as "homemade" on the menu. Final words... it's a bit pricey to give it another shot after such a disappointing experiencing. I would advise to perhaps try the prime rib, as that seems to be what the restaurant is known for best. read more

My family and I recently had a Birthday Dinner here for my wife's 59th birthday. The service was excellent, but the food was not good at all. My seafood Luigi was noodles with 3 Shrimp, 3 scallops, and plentiful amount of Calamari, with a sauce that was very bland. The disaster was my wife's Prime Rib, she order her Prime Rib medium well, and recieved a generous portion of meat that well done times 2. The waitress took one look at it an said," Do you want me to take that back". Upon receiving her replacement piece of meat, she received the chuck end of the rib which was really fatty, and grisly, so bad she couldn't cut it or eat it. The staff was generous enough to give my wife a free dessert, for there troubles which kept our bill under $200.00. All in all my wife and daughters will not return again any time soon. In the future do not charge somebody for a piece of meat they do not eat. read more

I haven't been there in six months of so, but I can only imagine the quality has stayed the same. It's got a supper-club style atmosphere, complete with pre-meal relishes and tasty bread. I can only speak of two things on the menu, both of which are very good. The cabbage rolls are amazing and so is the fried chicken. The only downside is that I really think that they're charging a bit too much for their food, which is the only reason we really don't go there anymore. I love this place. I have been many times over the years, and everyone in my family is always satisfied (which is saying a LOT). Their cabbage noodles are so, so delicious, and they serve them as a side to every meal, which is great. Their steaks are quality, and cooked to order perfectly. Their pastas are excellent, with several lighter dishes to satisfy daintier eaters. The perch is always a winner. The garlic rolls are SO garlicky. I pretty much love everything I've had there. Ate here in the winter of 2012. Easily one of the bottom 5 dining experiences of my life. The carousel of strange pickled accoutrements (with nothing to accouter) that I can only assume by the portions was carted publicly from table to table (WOOF) was only the beginning of the let down that this meal was. Our service was SO SLOW. Two tables that ordered long after us were brought their food a good half hour before us...and one of them ordered the same thing we had ordered. When our food finally did arrive it was totally overcooked and ice cold. This restaurant had been recommended highly by a coworker so not sure if we hit a bad night or if we just go for different things but whoa. The atmosphere was also wildly outdated and the place smelled like it had a case of sick building syndrome. I was so sad to pay that steep bill for the terrible experience. Such a waste. Went in to try the cabbage noodles, I have never been so disappointed in my life, the noodles were dry, salty, and I was charged $14.00 for a bread plate sized serving. The only reason I gave a one star rating was the rolls they served, awesome. I was planning on having a family reunion dinner there, as my family has been in the North Country for years and have always bragged about this place.
