Ordered take out from Italian Affair tonight - this restaurant is by far the most consistent pizza restaurant in town and definitely first or second for the quality of their products. Tonight's order was a large Italian Stromboli and an antipasto. The Stromboli is our favorite type - salami, ham and pepperoni with sauce and mozzarella. Large enough to feed four and done perfect. The antipasto was good - crisp lettuce, black olives, onions, tomatoes and salami and provolone florets and a nice dollop of tuna in the middle. read more

You have to do better. Placed an order for 2 simple pasta dishes at 7:02, paid online, and then a notification indicating a 75 minute estimate, way too long to begin with, but it was my choice. I show up to pick it up, even a couple minutes late, still not done. 94 minutes from order until finally brought out to me in the empty parking lot (4 cars). No justification can be satisfactory. No apology saying they were sorry it took an hour longer than it should. I don't usually complain, but I just can't comprehend the time. Changing my review, the first couple of times ordering here everything was perfect. The last 3 times ordering I've had so many issues, I will not be returning. My husband and I order $7.75 wraps from here, keep in mind the subs are the same price. So my wrap was quite big and actually filling and good for $7.75. My husbands sub was a Turkey Bacon Club wrap for $7.75 and he wanted no lettuce. So it gets delivered 10 minutes later then it was supposed to, we open up our food and my husband wrap wouldn't even feed a child. There was no turkey and was literally just crumbles of tomato and crumbles of bacon and some odd sauce that tastes like nothing. *** If your going to order wraps, keep it in mind they just fill them up with cheap lettuce to make them look bigger. Walked Into this place looking for some decent priced italian food. The menu offers a few italian items, along with similar subs, sandwhiches, and burgers. Pizza of course, but I didn't try it this time. So sorry pizza people. Its faster Italianish/Americano. A typical menu for pub grub with flair. Place was nice and clean, especially the bathrooms, which are pretty big in my book (women sit, and everyone poops.) Just remember, the lights to the bathrooms are outside, not within the door. One half of the dining room is made up of long stretch of parallel tables, and splitting the middle, takes you to the other side. Similar setup, but with an open server station near the kitchen door. I don't mind it, but I can see others (which I did today) get frustrated. The service was pretty damn good. We were greeted at the door, told to sit, and greeted again immediately. The server was very nice and attentive, even though, throughout our stay, the place got slammed. We may have been 1 of four tables, and left with a wait. These girls worked well together and did a very good job. They do have beer and other drinks, I had a blue. Little guy had a chocolate milk in a bottle (16 grams of protein...) And a water. Didn't hear soda selection cause the ice machine was down. We ordered a sampler to come out first, typical fried mushrooms, an onion pedal, mac n cheese triangle, and mozz sticks/bites. Not bad, served with marinara sauce, but pub-like. Follwed came a Broccoli Chicken Alfredo, and a Chicken Bella (per my asking of the chefs favorite) The Alfredo was not really flavorful. Sure there was broccoli and chicken, which were done nicely, but the perfect aldente pasta was ruined by a lack of sauce. A little more sauce would have gone a really long way. As for the Bella, the chefs request, I was also a bit disappointed. The sauce this time was mush better, the chicken present, but I would have preferred maybe a tad bit more cream, and perhaps red bell pepper strips, not only for garnish but for a good sweet moisture burst ever so often. But still, I did like my dish. Would I return? Yes, they did well enough, and brought dough for my child to play with before lunch was served, so I will definitely be back to try a pizza. I hear they have it good. But until next time... (1-20) Service - 18 Outstanding! Ambience - 15 Nice and quaint, pick your side wisely Location - 18 Plenty of parking, easy access Food - 12 Par, but probably great for mass majority, keep in mind, many chefs know that salt is different with all, so rememberit's always on the table. Found ourselves hungry at 9pm on a holiday weekend Sunday night in sleepy little Massena... Wanting to experience someplace authentic and avoid the typical fast food options that were still open, we headed to An Italian Affair. We arrived at 9:20 and the place was empty and looked potentially closed (even though Yelp hours said they were open until 10pm). A young woman greeted us at the takeout window and (a teeny bit hesitantly) told us that they were open until 10pm and that we could stay until then (they also have a sit-down area with booths around the corner.) So we sat. I ordered stuffed shells (had wanted gnocchi but wasn't on the menu). Thrilled to learn that the shells were heated in the OVEN (as opposed to the microwave) prior to being served. Just the right amount of cheese. And although just three shells looks sparse on the platter, they were just enough. Delicious. Another couple walked in after us and sat in the booth behind us. They ordered a full meal, including a bottle of red wine. Service (aside from taking a long time between placing the order and delivering the food) was good. An Italian Affair is a moderately priced, casual dining alternative to the run-of-the-mill options in the area. Give it a shot. Buon appetito! read more

Don't expect service, they're doing things their way instead of how you ask for it. Pretending zero concept of what a steak bomb its, teenie boppers can't possibly comprehend its the same thing the menu designates a steak special, which is probably the only thing special about it! But they'll charge extra anyway to give you literally rotten salad and weirdly spiced under cooked food, and/or hot peppers pizza instead of normal ppr pizza should you ask for anything off menu, (wish id spit on it before returning it as asked).... Dont forget they'll make you wait on the phone to decide if they'll send delivery half mile "extra" to your house because you're out of their delivery area... Alwaaaaays coming back with yes but charge extra, on top of the extra fees they'll already charge to make something to order but do it their own assine way anyhow.... Extra container fees! This use to be my favorite restaurant to go to but recently the food and service have both taken a dive. Just last week I tried to treat my mother to a nice dinner in town but unfortunately we waited for over an hour to receive one stromboli that had fallen apart but they still served that embarrassment to us and said they would be making a new one for us. We waited about another half hour or so to finally receive a intact dinner by then I was reasonably upset especially considering we never received a proper apology or any form of reimbursement for the almost two hour wait time for a single stromboli. Have patronized this establishment for several years and have been quite satisfied especially with the pizza which we really enjoyed. At the end of April we ordered pizza and were not pleased with the excessive amount of sauce but excused it as probably just a fluke. I've found their food to be very poor compared to real Italian cuisine in normal cities, and about average for the North Country. Their sauce is barely edible just like Sergi's. It definitely doesn't have a home-made taste to it. It would be nice to see an "Italian" restaurant up here have some pride in their food and make a quality sauce from scratch with real fresh ingredients - nothing from a bottle or can. You can buy fresh tomatoes, herbs, garlic, etc. at the farmers' markets during the summer and I'm sure from restaurant suppliers in the off season. For a glorified pizza restaurant, this is pretty good. I arrived on a Wednesday night at 8:30 and there was only one other party of two in the restaurant. If you are looking for atmosphere, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a great chicken parm, this is the place! Wow, well balanced and well prepared. The chicken was piping hot, moist and tender. Good service and food is great but.... Ate here Wednesday evening and had linguini with meat sauce and meatballs and side salad. Salad was great with Italian dressing. They put in mozzarella cubes and pickle cubes which adds so much to the salad. Love it. The pasta was cooked well. Sauce was meaty but tasted very sweet, too much sugar added. And had a lot of water on the bottom of the bowl which I don't care for to have on my pasta dishes. But don't get me wrong I've eaten here lots before and the pizza and everything is good. I called to order takeout. I was told that they could not give me a side of any of their pasta sauces despite offering various selections because "it all comes pre-portioned with the noodles". What, do all the pasta dishes come frozen in blocks? When we got our food, the pasta was inedible. The chicken "alfredo" amounted to pasta and chicken doused in milk. I had to whip up my own alfredo sauce to add to it. The chicken martini pasta was literally just noodles and toppings. No sauce to speak of. No salt, no pepper, no cheese, just noodles. Ive eaten in the restaurant on several occasions, and my office likes to order from here alot for lunch. Whether it's pizza, pasta, burgers, or wings, the food has always been greasy, and lacking in flavor. I assume everything is frozen. The food is edible, but if my office didn't order or bi weekly free lunch from here most if the time ( I don't get a say in where we get lunch), i wouldn't voluntarily eat Italian Affair again. I finally made it here to try it- first I was super struck by the cleanliness of this place...a PLUS! Menu is extensive so tried the side salad...wow- a great little salad full of goodies for under $4- homemade dressing I had was very very good. I ordered a small calzone- it was huge. It was flavorless with really over refined white flour...Inside was FULL of goodies and good. Came with a small side of sauce- have had much better elsewhere for sure. The eggplant was fully cooked. For me, undercooked eggplant essentially kills the dish, no matter how well the other ingredients are executed. Insta-death sentence. I am up in NNY in the summer months, and An Italian Affair is definitely one of my picks. Stopped in a couple of times over the past month and a half.... First time. Ordered pizza (double mushroom, pepperoni, and extra sauce) and wings (extra crispy, medium heat) for take out. Definitely disappointed. The crust on the pizza was incredibly thick, and not at all what I think about when I want a NY pie. I thought I was in Chicago for a minute. Most of it sadly hit the trash. Redeemer is their pizza sauce, which is excellent. Wings were okay, no heat at all, and not all that crispy. Blue cheese on the side was less than memorable, and celery was soggy. Second time. Ordered a Steak Special with mayo, toasted in the oven; and a baby spinach pizza with mushrooms on THIN crust. The baby spinach was easily the best I've had from AIA during this trip. There was no toast on the steak sub, exactly as I'd heard from friends. Third time. Ordered poutine; Steak Special with mayo, extra mushrooms toasted in the oven; and a ham calzone with two sauces on the side. We got the order home and the poutine was good (you are accepting that you're not going to get cheese curd here when you order it from AIA). Steak special - again not toasted and I couldn't even find a mushroom, although I'd ordered and paid for extra!!! I'm definitely convinced that they ignore any request to toast a hot sub in the oven, and most other sub variations. Seriously? How hard is it to pop the finished product in the oven for a few to toast it? Where were my mushrooms? Whoever does their subs needs some serious training. I feel like going back before I leave to order a Baked Italian to see if it's even baked. Ham calzone was quite good, and their sauce is great as always. Service during ordering and pickup is top notch - they repeat your order back to you on the phone, and check it when you pick it up to make sure everything is there. Toss the thick crust on pizza - this is NY. Hire someone who can actually complete hot subs to order. Don't ever change that sauce recipe!! :) read more
