just went in to get an estimate -- needed a wheel bearing installed (i already have the part -- which costs like $50) on my audi. guess what the estimate was, per 'book value': $600. LMAO it's a relatively clean shop for brooklyn, but -- as always -- filled with non-english-speaking staff and you have to hunt for the 'guy,' who seems to avoid you for some reason. how places like this actually get customers and continue to exist is beyond me. (note: i've had wheel bearings replaced maybe a dozen times in my life, and also supply my own parts, purchased online. this repair should cost about $200 tops) read more

Giving SABO Auto 5 Stars for reliable service. I had been loosing anti freeze and kept topping it off wondering what was the problem i feared a blow head gasket. i went and arthur explained that i had a return line anti freeze hose leaking very slowly and they recommended the correct part from dealer and i haven't had one problem since. Recently, now a year later, i lost all Heat and they found that it was a thermostat.. i went to buy one(duralast), but they assured me it wasn't the exact fit and showed me the correct part. Went for a simple inspection last day of month in November 2024 - was afraid to wake up & find ticket on December 1. Called near end of business day & begged to please allow me to bring vehicle, & they agreed after hearing/understanding my worry. Upon inspection, was reminded of imminent brake failure at rear right passenger side of vehicle. Did repairs very next day, I was so very grateful & plan to return for any issues in future! If you're - please woman, stay away from this service. Their employee issued an estimate for car repairs totaling 3,315, but after my husband asked for an explanation over the phone, the bill was reduced to $1,000. The employee also refused to do an inspection unless we fixed what they claimed needed repair. After that, I successfully passed the inspection elsewhere. I'm attaching a photo--these are all the repairs they listed with their prices, but after my husband's call, they marked only the essential ones in yellow. My first time getting my car repaired in Brooklyn and it was great. No frills here - just some guys in a garage - but service was so quick! I called yesterday to ask about an appointment to fix my brakes, they said no need, just bring it in whenever. Showed up today around 9am. I parked my car in front of the hydrant (it's on a main road) and walked in. Right away they sent someone out to drive my car into the shop and put it on the lift to check the brakes. They explained what parts I needed, ordered the parts, got them delivered, and fixed my car... all in less than an hour! If you're expecting high class, this is not the place. I would definitely recommend those guys to everyone. Garage itself maybe is not that fancy, but I wouldn't like to pay extra couple of hundreds bucks for soft seat that or coffee that i can buy on the gas station on the corner. I asked mechanic what was wrong with it, he looked on it for couple a min, and gave me the list of things that he thought was wrong with it, things what he was sure about and things that still needed for further investigation. They made a phone call to a part dealer right away and gave me the price, it was still estimated, but there was none of the "maybe a hundred or maybe three, maybe six" I dropped my car of, received phone call in couple of hours and car was perfectly fixed, my issues that i addressed were looked at, fixed and explained to me. My old broken parts were shown to me. Total was three times less than estimate in other place that i went before. Great place, will definitely go there again if I'll have issue with my car. read more

I've now been to Sabo Auto Repair about five or six times, from a simple diagnosis and oil change to major car repairs. This is by far the best auto repair shop that I've ever been to. This shop does all sorts of repairs and will give you honest, upfront estimates based on what they think the issue is. The mechanics who work here are professionals who do not bullshit around. Once I've spent over 4 hours on the weekend in their repair shop and did not see them take a break from work besides using the bathroom. The owner Alex is an honest man who has core values that dictate the way he conducts his business. This is a very important when it comes to dealing with an auto repair shop, which are known to rip people off in one way or another. This auto shop, however, is a different story. The first time I came there I was looking for a diagnosis and an estimate for a "check engine" light. Every shop I've called in the area gave me a fee of $50-$100 to do this procedure, and some would not waive it even if I committed to repairing my car in their shop afterwards. When I came to Sabo Auto Repair I not only received a free "check engine" diagnosis from Alex himself, but also an honest opinion on what I should do next based on the error that came up. I've seen single women who clearly knew nothing about cars nervously walking into this shop and walking out smiling and happy with the service and treatment they've received. They were not taking advantage of and treated with respect. One lady drove in and thought that one of her car's wheels broke. It turned out to be only an underinflated tire. Alex explained the issue to her, the car's tire was pumped to proper pressure and she was not charged anything for this service. And yes, this is in Brooklyn. The prices are very fair and there are no surcharges and fees that some shop try to sneak in after they fix your car ("Oh, we also needed to fix this or repair that"). Their service is quick and right to the point, nobody will waste your time here. I am sure that there are other auto repair shops in Brooklyn that are honest, have great mechanics and prices, but this is one that I can speak about based on personal experience. What can I say about this place, seemingly a couple of dudes in a garage. However, the gentleman I met assessed my issue at no cost, and was very honest. The shops labor hourly costs are the lowest I've seen. My issue was fixed for a fraction of what another shop dared quoting me on, and I didn't even need a few items that place insisted. read more

I've been going to SABO since I was referred to them by my uncle when I got my first car in 2000, have been going ever since. The guys are competent, don't rip you off, and most importantly honest. I hate to give a bad review, but I'd be lying if I gave them more than one star. Came here for an oil change. Also asked if they could check out a light issue (one of the lights near my sunglasses holder stopped lighting up upon turning off the ignition like it normally does). After the mechanic (a Russian guy who barely spoke English) changed my oil, he brought my car out back. When I asked him what he thought of the light issue, he just said "I don't know." After I again explained the issue (because honestly, he didn't really take the time to listen the first time around), he then said "I don't know, but not today" and just got out of the car and said "$35" (for the oil change). Wtf? Are you kidding me? He basically just said he didn't have time to figure out what was going on (though the shop didn't seem busy at all). Why don't you shut down your business if you don't have time for customers??? Thanks for wasting my time. I could've gone to a place that would've actually appreciated my business instead of your crappy shop. Also, their credit card machine wasn't even working. Avoid this place if your car has an issue, because they simply will not care. Unbelievable!! read more
