Well this is hands down the best Mexican food you can get in Rapid. I have heard good things about this place, so I thought I would give it a try. I am pretty pleased with the restaurant. Now pleas make not they serve a more traditional Mexican food here, which is a little bit more different than Texmex. Yes, the outside of the building isn't super flashy and the location is in a bit of a sketchy area, but don't let that stop you from trying this little hole in the wall place. Lunch specials are $7 and the regular menu items seem to float around the $10-14 range. Also, on a random side note, the Coke here is mixed correctly which I'm a stickler for great tasting Coke and I feel ripped off when the Coke is funny tasting. read more

We asked around for advice on a good mexican resturant, we were told SD doesn't have any good clean mexican reaturants. This place had good chips and salsa but the food was not good and we didn't hardly touch it. Paid the 40 bucks for it and left. Service was ok, wouldn't recommend or return. read more

The demand for ethnic food in Rapid City is pretty high and there's not much competition for authentic Mexican food. But this place is not worth the wait. Nachos were cold and stale, the salsa was just okay. Everything else, barely satisfactory. read more

Coming from El Paso, TX, I give this is stamp of border approval. For being up so far north its really great food. Small place but amazing food. The food here is delicious. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, and had a party of 8. There was only one server for the whole place, which was sort of unfortunate, but she really did great, considering. Salsa is super...little runny but lots of fresh flavor. Had a carnitas/pork burrito smothered. Very well cooked pork with just a hint of crisp, and tender. Delicious green sauce. Lettuce and cheese. Kids loved it- shredded chicken in quesadillas and burritos very good. Guacamole was very good. Service friendly, little slowish. Can't beat Authentic! In this part of the USA it is so difficult to get spicy, great tasting Mexican food. What a surprise with the rich flavors of each dish at Sabor a Mexico. Don't just get the tacos (also good), dive into the enchiladas, tamales, many burritos.. there is no bad dish! So good we had our Christmas Eve dinner there. This is probably the best Mexican food that can be found in Rapid City. I realize that RC isn't a hot bed of Mexican cuisine but Sabor A Mexico has good food and good service for a good price. It reminds us of a few places we used to eat at in El Paso, TX and Juarez, Mexico back in the late 60s and early 70s. It's kind of a hole-in-the-wall, very small but authentic, even down to the slightly wobbly table. Don't let the neighborhood bother you. There are used car lots, residential motels, pawn shops, and some other businesses backed by a residential area but pretty quiet overall. I hear that the Mexican beer selection is good but it was an early lunch for us. We had Chiles Rellenos and Huevos Rancheros, both excellent. read more

We dropped in with 9 people and they didn't bat an eye. They quickly got us our drinks and gave us time to make our food decisions. Between the 5 adults in the group we had the #24 combination plate, the barbacoa, the carne Assad, the tostada, and shrimp Pacifico. All were excellent. No leftovers or uneaten parts. Our office made a large order for 8 people. Everything was there. Plenty of food even for takeout. Loved the green salsa(?) Plenty of flavor and each person was happy with their meal. If you can overlook the hole in the wall look...I guarentee you will not find more authentic Mexican food in the area. Their tamales are to die for! Yes the dinning area is small and quaint, but it actually makes me feel I am in someone's home in the heart of Mexico getting served a delicious meal. I believe it's the most authentic we have in this area. After I was seated they slid freshly made chips and homemade salsa in front of me, it had that kick Salsa should have, obviously fresh and done right, they kept it coming without extra charge. At this point I knew we were off to a good start. The food is consistently great and is different than heavily Americanized versions more commonly available. When a Mexican restaurant cares enough to serve real chips and properly zesty salsa and not pass off store bought stuff then it's a great indication of the quality of the food to come. I have been here several times and tried different dishes, all fantastic but I always leave overstuffed because I cant stop with the chips and Salsa, even when the food comes. When I tour I often end up in Mexican restaurants and some are better than others, I'm glad we have this one locally. It's a small place and hard to spot if your not looking for it, parking and booth seating both leave something to be desired but it I still give 5 stars based on how much I enjoy the food. I must also add that it's a great value. Cant go wrong with this one. read more
