Hilachas de Res. The stew was delicious. (at this point I'd already eaten most of the beef inside)

Came here for a longer lunch with a small work group. The server was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and you can tell it was made fresh. We tried the mixed pupusas, fried chicken, beef stew (Hilachas de Res), and parilla. Everyone was happy with their dish. The Hilachas de Res had a delicious stew and the side dishes were more than enough and also good tasting. All the portions were a good size. The table decor was also cute! Will definitely come back here again!

Maybe it was a time of day thing, but we went at 11am on Saturday so I figured it would be available. Not a big deal. Menu has lots of options. We got the bistec al caballo (the closest thing to a traditional "breakfast" I saw as it was steak and eggs) and the enchiladas suizas with chicken. Both plates were excellent. Not a traditional steak, more like a thin piece of flank steak that had been braised until tender, but not quite to the point where it was falling apart under its own weight. It paired well with the fried eggs and the salsa criolla. All served over a bed of white rice that absorbed all of the flavors nicely. I added a chile toreado on the side and chopped it up with the rest of the salsa criolla on top of the steak to give it a bit of heat. Highly recommended. The enchiladas were also excellent. Chicken looked and tasted like it was cooked in the same sauce as the beef. The chicken was a bit dry but the cheese and green sauce that covered the enchiladas more than made up for it. Served with beans and a bit of rice with peas and carrots, everything on the plate was great. If you don't speak Spanish, you may have trouble communicating with the server. I can't speak for everyone there but I'm fairly certain the server working when we went did not speak English. But they are on DoorDash, so this is also an option if you want to order delivery or takeout. Sign on the door said they were BYOB, but we didn't ask what the restrictions were or if there was any additional charge for this. It looked like they had a good selection of aguas frescas as well.

Authentic Dominican/Caribbean food in Willowbrook. Who knew?…read more I remember this place from a birthday party decades ago. The space was a bit bigger (they've since redesigned it smaller), but the crowds were smaller. Success hasn't tarnished their food. It was a very rainy and soggy afternoons and the place was packed. We managed a table and ordered. Can't go wrong with the delicious shrimp mofongo. I honestly think the sauce is the icing on that cake, made all the more delicious with a squeeze of lemon. Whew! Service was fast and dinner came out at a reasonable pace. The owner is so friendly and stopped by our table to make sure things were good. Better than good! If you're in the Willowbrook area do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch or dinner. Prices are a little steep, but what's isn't these days?

I ordered the pollo guisado and moro, both were good and we have a little left over. My partner ordered the pica pollo and the fried chicken was decent. The food does take some time, and servers did not check in too often so I would recommend ordering ahead of time (unless you have a long lunch break), There are plenty of tables, but it is a little dark inside, 2 bathrooms inside. The juice was on the sweet side so just watered it down (wish they have smoothies), but they get 5 stars overall for the flavor and the price point. Plenty of parking as it's in located along other stores.

Houston has an amazing international dining scene and we won't have any problem finding food to match all 26 countries. Today we started with "A is for Argentina" at Pampa Grill & Market in Houston on Hammerly. We were thrilled to start our journey with newlyweds our son and daughter‑in‑law. We all shared freshly baked bread with chimichura sauce and marinated vegetables salsa criolla, delicious empanadas of all sorts, the Argentina Grill parrillada platter, and flan and Nutella crepes for dessert. Pampa Grill & Market is a beloved family-owned neighborhood gem run by Argentine owners. Definitely a fabulous experience all around. Pampa serves wine, but they also allow BYOB, so we brought a delicious 2022 Decero Remelinos Malbec and John and Katherine brought a lovely white blend, also from Argentina. Weare going to have so much fun taking this food journey together! "B" takes us to Brazil in the next couple weeks. Stay tuned!

We came for the specialty market to buy some items from Argentina. This place was packed with every table taken and several people waiting on a Sunday at 3pm so it must be really good. We saw homemade alfores which I absolutely love and they even had the crackers we love at their small market. With pictures of Argentina and Messi on their walls you tell the warm friendly atmosphere although busy. Will definitely return for lunch or dinner after reading the Yelp reviews. This is one of those locations where the overall rating is pretty accurate. There were definite highlights of the experience, but the largest part of my rating will always focus on my entrees, and those were kind of terrible. Service was okay. The staff wasn't really engaged, but they did accomplish their tasks. I wouldn't describe anyone who was working Sunday evening as friendly, but they did their jobs. We started out with a Tamarindo Agua Fresca and a Dr. Pepper. Judging from the large size of the cups, I am guessing they don't do refills, but I did not ask. The agua fresca was strong, but very good. We were served with chips and salsa and then we added on an order of chile con queso for $4.50. The chips were quite good, definitely the best thing we had during our visit. They tasted homemade and I love a thick, crispy tortilla chip. Our server saw we ran out of chips before our food came and did not offer or ask if we wanted more. This leads me to believe they don't refill these either, without a charge, but it's just an impression I was given and I could be mistaken. The salsa was warm, slightly spicy and heavy on the tomato flavor. The queso was shockingly small for the price and had a very thick texture. I was disappointed because it tasted okay, but not good enough to justify the price we paid. We placed our orders and waited a reasonable amount of time. My husband got the carne asada quesadilla plate for $8.99 and the portion was a decent size for the price. I ordered 4 tacos and a small side of rice, all of which were $1.50 each. My rice was okay, but my tacos were not. The tortillas are clearly not made in house, but I won't knock you for having cold, store bought tortillas if you fill them with something tasty. Someone was really heavy handed with the salt that day, and that was the final factor that helped us decide we would not be returning. I actually *like* salt, but I could feel my blood pressure rising just from a few bites, it felt that unhealthy. The only thing that wasn't salty was the pastor, it was actually bland and cold. The barbacoa, nopalitos and carnitas were all salty though. In addition, the barbacoa was too greasy and the nopalitos tasted weirdly sour and bitter (instead of tart). The carnitas had the best texture of all the tacos, but they were the saltiest thing on my plate, making it difficult to eat. My husband let me sample a bit of his carne asada and I was shocked that it was greasier and saltier than anything on my plate. It was so greasy that a few minutes into our meal, the plate was covered in orange grease and it had soaked through the quesadilla. It was mostly inedible and frankly, hard to look at. As we were wrapping things up, my husband used their restroom and immediately warned me to wait until we returned home... ewww. I hope that this was a one off situation. Since we were only visiting the area, I have no way of knowing if this is normal for them. However, most of the food felt like a waste of money and the only items I actually enjoyed were my agua fresca and the chips. Though I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt, I feel our experience had too many issues to gloss over and I'm obligated to give an honest rating. I generally tend to round up my ratings on a first visit since I know things happen, but I cannot justify a higher rating at this time.
