I don't like boring food because, well, it's Sabor. But I found this spectacular, amazing Salvadoran bar and food place in an area that some rich suburban folk dare not tread. I was over the proverbial moon. I had to enjoy every bite. Sabor the moment. In my mind I said thanks to Allah, Buddha, Shiva, and to our lord and Sabor Jesus Cristo. One of the best Salvadoran spots in HOuston. If anyone tells you that it's not, they're merely trying to Sabor-tage your enjoyment of the food here. The pupusas are magnificent and the clientele are mostly from Central America, and not too much English is spoken - and the tamales are out of this world. Two words about Mi Case de Sabor - muy amable (very friendly in Spanish). I was amazed with a warm welcome as I walked in this restaurant. Being a Hispanic Asian, I have advantages in many ways. Mi Casa de Sabor reminded me of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in South America where I came from. It has a large dining room to accommodate parties. The South American decorations and endless Latin American music made feel like the good old days. Here is how I found Mi Casa de Sabor on my staycation. I was shopping nearby on a rainy day. My immediate thought was "I want soup!" So, I pulled out my Yelp app and started to search what pops up with benefits. I considered soups and appetizers quick comfort foods. I ordered a beef bone soup and empanadas. The meat was so tender and the soup was flavorful. I was surprised with the size of the shank meat. I literally have to use fork and knife to cut it. Then, empanadas were so good. I normally expect huge cavity in the meat pie. But I was wrong again. The empanada was fill with vegetables, rice and beef; and there was no room for air. It took the kitchen a little longer than most restaurants for what I ordered. But I took time to enjoy studying the menu. I would come back for pupusas. I also want to try enchiladas as recommended by my Yelper friend Maria S. The friendly staff is another reason for my return. I enjoyed a weird stare from customers because I'm Asian. But it's okay. This is a great place for some authentic food and friendly service. I was impressed with the quantity and quality of almost everything we tried. First, the homemade guacamole is LITERALLY the best I've had in Houston. I recommend the large serving- good for 2-4 people ($5). Second, we tried the nachos, which I unfortunately would not recommend. The toppings (fajita meat, pico, and jalapeños) were tasty, but they used store bought chips and yellow cheese. This was the only disappointment on the night, but if you're up for some cinema quality chips/cheese, go for it ($7-10 depending on toppings). Finally, we ordered the parrillada ($28 for 2, $35 for 3). Highly recommend this for a group because it contained a delicious mix of shrimp, beef, and chicken fajitas with onions and peppers. What a gem! I've gotten take out from this family owned restaurant a couple of times during the pandemic and they've been consistent for the most part. They take their time preparing their food so their wait time is a bit longer than usual but I appreciate that the food is hot and fresh every time. They're happy to make customizations so be sure to ask if you need accomodations - I wanted soup but noticed they all had meat, so I asked for just veggies and they stacked it heavy! FOUND GLASS IN MY FOOD. Imagine how dangerous this could have been? I'm driving, and as I'm trying to eat what was supposed to be my lunch, I bite into a big ass piece of glass. I didn't even know what to do or how to feel! First time there and for sure not going back. Filed reports, went for money back but they tried to take the glass from me. I couldn't care less about the money but think of who you could have hurt. If it can happen once it can happen again. This is a good friendly Salvadoran and Mexican restaurant and watering hole. Despite it being around 7:00pm they were empty except for two guys drinking at the bar. The waiter spoke perfect English. I enjoyed the beef enchiladas. I did not care for the taste of the refried beans on my plate of enchiladas. The rice was nice. I was pleasantly surprised to be offered a choice of sauces on my enchiladas: I went with the salsa verde. I also had two chicken tamales which were cooked in the traditional manner wrapped in a banana leaf. Disappointed that one of the tamales didn't have more than one small bit of chicken inside it and nothing else. The other chicken tamale was fine. read more

Amazing dishes! Pregnant and suddenly had craving for Salvadoreño breakfast. I saw Mi Casa was nearby and randomly stopped. I ordered El Campanero and my fiancé ordered El Salvadoreño. I love places like this! It's small, locally owned and has been serving the community for over a decade. The owner Freddy is very friendly, easy to talk to, and most importantly serves good, fresh food. I tried some pupusas on his recommendation and they were fantastic! I ordered from here for delivery and found it to be pretty authentic. That's a nice surprise if you're looking for real Mexican food. Sopa de res - basically a chuck beef soup, not as thick as a stew so it really is a soup. Take out the bones and the fat off the beef and you're good to go. The flavor is good. Just add some lime juice and a little spice. Pechuga a la placha - thinned out chicken breat in a white wine and lemon sauce. Don't be fooled, there is no sauce to it, but it does have the citrus flavor described. It's Mexican food, not Italian, so when you see wine and lemon, it's the flavor you're interested in. It was pretty good. Rice was really good! Corn tortillas are terrible though. They're super thick, beyond the point they should be. Problem with super thick tortillas is they are no longer a tasty vessel for something else - they are half the flavor. Just not the way tortillas should be. read more
