I happened into Sabor de mi tierra tonight as I looked for a place where I could wait out my daughter's swim practice, have dinner, order takeout for my daughter, and get some work done. I got SO LUCKY in finding Sabor. The hostess was very welcoming and told me it was fine for me to sit and work. As I looked over the menu, there were so many things I would have loved to order, but I slowly narrowed it down to the five (or so) dishes including grilled flank steak served with shrimp (sauteed shrimp, crispy shrimp, gratin shrimp...). I ordered the Churrasquito con Camarones Gratinados -- it arrived on a sizzling iron plate with maduros, parboiled potatoes, frijoles, and (because I ordered an extra side), white rice. This meal was HEAVEN. The steak was cooked perfectly to order, succulent and juicy, and the shrimp arranged over the top and covered in gratin. The chef came by as I enjoyed the food and asked how I was enjoying it, and honestly I wanted to hug him. The food was obviously made with love. I sat and enjoyed this wonderful food in peace, listening to great latin music, and then the hostess brought me some complimentary empanadas when I finally asked for my bill -- no one rushed me or seemed at all concerned that I was working. This is the best dining experience I have had in a long time, and I am excited to bring my daughters and friends here very soon. AMAZING. read more

Came here several times since opening and I must say that is one of my favorite spots to have delicious HOT fresh Colombian dishes. I'm a huge fan when it comes to sparkling/seltzer waters. This location offer Colombian/Spanish seltzer brand with a splash of fresh squeezed lemon added in for less than $5. Matched perfectly with a Bandje Paisa (popular Colombian dish) that comes with fresh Frisoles Antioqueños; which is one of the freshest bean soup I've had around the area. Must try! Although sometimes there can be a language barrier for those that don't speak Spanish, be patient when requesting something, they will eventually understand what you need. Parking is located at the back of the restaurant adjacent from the Union Public Library. Be mindful, to read the signs. We were just at Sabor de mi Tierra for lunch while on layover in Newark, I have spent countless days in Colombia and I must say this is the best Colombian food outside of Colombia. If you find yourself near Union, NJ this is a must! Great food and even better staff. It's my second visit to this restaurant and I have to say, the experience was superb. First of all, the food was exquisite; we ordered grilled chicken and salmon served with fried plantains, rice and salad. You can tell the ingredients were super fresh and the food was served within 15 minutes. The staff were very attentive and personable. We ended our meal with a scrumptious Passion fruit cheesecake dessert. Five stars for great food, freshness, excellent service and awesome ambiance. Best Colombian place in Union county. My husband and I had dinner after a long day and we were pleasantly surprised. Probably the best restaurant in Union. You can tell the food is made with a lot of flavor and love. Liliana was just a pleasure to have as a server. The owner is very very sweet and grateful that we were there. I've always passed by this place and it never passed my mind that I should eat there but then one day me and my friends went to eat there. In all honestly this place has good Colombian food. Their desserts are good, I ordered their flan and their lemonade. Overall the place is good. Music is nice and their service is amazing.
