Checked Yelp for Catfish near me and found Sachse Icehouse highly rated. I have driven by this place many times, and have friends who hang there, but from the outside it has just not seemed to appeal to me. Man was I missing out! The Catfish here is about the best I have ever had! You get two very good sized fillets, a side if either fries, onion rings, tots, and perhaps other choices, and a nice portion of coleslaw for just under ten bucks. I've been back 3-4 times since my first visit a couple of weeks ago. Looks like they have about 15 different beers on tap although I have just gone with the 420 ale so far. The beer was super cold!!!!. (San Tan Sex Panther Porter-a must yet if you can get over the name.) The fried pickles had an unexpected spicy kick, the ranch tasted homemade, the wings were good and the catfish was fresh and amazing. The highlight for me was the coleslaw which was better than my mom's and that is saying something. Definitely will visit again. Back to the Ice House yesterday to hang out on a Saturday with friends and celebrate some birthdays. One bartender / server and one cook. Place was BUSY!! Christy (please forgive if spelled incorrectly!) worked her hiney off and did a GREAT job of taking care of everyone. LOTS of food orders, both in house dining and to go, and they came out as quickly as possible, but they were all done right!! Yet again, catfish and fries were outstanding as was the appetizer plate of spicy fried pickles, crispy potato skins and mozzarella sticks. Burger was really good as well. Everyone was pleased!! Food is ok. Service is terrible. Table was wobbly and waters fell. (We don't drink alcohol). Had to ask for replacement after 15 min and then she forgot. Delivered them with no words. Small space. We went on a Sunday evening for dinner but it wasn't crowded so we got right in. Very small menu so if your looking for a lot of selection this is not the place for you. The food was good, not great, but I've had far worse. The price was right in line with the quality, so a great place if you aren't looking to spend a fortune. It had more of a bar feel to it, so not sure the kids enjoyed the atmosphere as much. May be better suited for adults, but they also liked the food. It was quick and service was good. Not a beer drinker so not sure about that. read more

My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch and a couple of beers after a car show at the high school. I had a cheeseburger and she had the catfish. Both were very tasty! The young man that tended bar was prompt, pleasant, and courteous. We talked about a squash game that was on TV and his earlier playing and coaching days. Nice guy. He made us feel welcome and our beers were cold. There was a mixed crowd in that afternoon. A couple that sat with us at the bar. A group of guys that had obviously been playing golf, and a smaller group throwing darts. We own a business in the area and now refer Sachse Icehouse to others. Go try them out and have a good time. This is clearly a locals bar. Everyone seems to know each other. The bartender was very nice and attentive. No cigarette smoke here. The air was clean and fresh. Margarita was not made from mix and was very good. We had the chips, salsa, and queso. The queso was Excellent (with a capital E). I could drink that stuff out of a mug. Seriously. That said... The service here is awful. They are very under staffed and slow. We ordered an appetizer but never received it. We finally got our wings and fries but the fries were stale and gross. At least the wings were good. The waitress apologized about the appetizer and stated that "the kitchen was the size of the bathroom". It is a bar, so it's not exactly the place to bring junior. Some cussing and daytime drinking are a little much for the sensory development.
