I drove from Maryland to Texas and before I was set to return I wanted my oil changed. I took it to Sackett and within a few short hours I was called ed and told there was water in somewhere where it shouldn't have been. I was offered a discount of more than $2000.00 to fix it. I didn't have it. Then he said he could fix the problem for less. He also told me my home mechanic lied to me. I decided to take the oil change only and I drove home from Texas to Maryland without any mechanical problems. Unfortunately, my vehicle has repeatedly been misdiagnosed at Sacket Auto. I have done some repairs with them. But the ones that I asked for a second and third opinion, I have had repaired elsewhere for a significant fraction of the price. I am suspicious that they might believe a woman knows nothing about cars and would be gullible. I am sure many women are! But I am resourceful and I will be damned if I overpay for auto repairs! There have been times when something gets repaired and the problem persist. A case of a problem being obviously misdiagnosed!! Sacket's quote might be between $400 and $500 to repair a leak, take it elsewhere and they might suggest the $40 additive that stops the leak and as a bonus they will even give you the right diagnose. I was quoted over $300 for a repair that wasn't at all the issue. Took it elsewhere and paid $15 for the part and $35 for labor. You have got to be kidding me, Jerry and Omar!! there is no way this issue was diagnosed by mistake!! I got a second and third opinion. One of the mechanics diagnosed it correctly without even taking anything apart. YSacket's mechanic, supposedly, took the time to "open up" to correctly diagnose the issue. There is no way that he didn't see the part needed was a different one than the one quoted and labor needed was no more than 15 minutes. There is no way this misdiagnose was a mistake!! No way!! So, Yelp user, if your mom, wife, daughter, sister, etc. are customers at Sacket Auto on Austin St., make sure they ask for a second opinion. It is well worth it. read more

For a decade Sackett Auto Repair has been my mechanic and as long as live in Houston they will continue to be so. It baffles me that I have not written a review before now. Omar is patient when listening to what issues I have with my car and is great about explaining the repairs needed, upfront about their costs, and when I can't afford everything all at once he tells me what is most crucial and what repairs combined will yield less costs in terms of labor prices. When my car has actually needed a part they get it quick from the manufacturer. Omar has called car scrap yards for me when a part is too expensive for me. And if I ask if it can come from a yard he tells me if its not safe or not a long-term value and explains why. They have kept my car, now 15 years old, running so well I feel confident I can make it last for another ten years. And repairs are super timely too. Seriously, I will never go to another mechanic as long as I live in the H. And if I ever leave the city any future mechanic has really big shoes to fill. read more

My review comes with a story. Upon 2013 Christmas break I drove my Saab 9-3 to Houston while it was apparently leaking oil the whole ride in. It took about three starts to get it to Sackett Auto Repair (located on Austin St.) Jerry, called me to give me the bad news. I blew the engine!!! Not only did the guys keep an open line of communication and try to visit multiple salvage yards to find a great price for the replacement, they even DROVE MY CAR BACK TO AUSTIN AS A COURTESY and let me use an extra Shop vehicle to get home and back to work. This is an exceptional auto repair shop. I have used them for two issues on my 2013 VW Passat that other mechanics/the dealer failed me on. First, my check engine light came on. I checked the code with my OBD2 scanner, and after some googling, learned that I would have to replace an air pump. The dealer told me this was going to cost $400 + labor. I called my usual shop and they said they couldn't help me, but to call Sackett instead. Sackett got it done for $300, including labor. Second, when I turned my wheel hard right, there was a scraping sound. My usual shop tried to shave off some plastic from the inside of the wheel well, but that didn't fix it. They said they could replace the whole plastic bit for $300. Sackett found the root cause of the problem (some foam expanded behind the wheel well) and fixed it for $80. Needless to say, my usual shop won't get my business any longer, and I will be going to Sackett for all of my automotive repair needs. read more

This repair shop sucks! The technicians have little experience in wheel maintenance and bering replacement! They still have my car after leaving it there for the third time due to noise from the wheel they repaired or lack there of. Now they're attempting to blame problem on another wheel to extort more money for repairs! Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS SHOP PERIOD!!!!!! Don't let the fact that Maintenance is misspelled on the building fool you. Sackett was honest, affordable and did exactly what they said they would do. I found myself in a spot when my radiator blew. I ended up with a new radiator and thermostat. They were efficient and my car was ready when promised. My car has always received the very best of service, despite the fact that I have a very old car (1996 Nissan Maxima.)
