I have a 2013 VW Touareg TDI. I purchased some bad diesel from a nearby Shell station which caused the engine light to come on and the car to operate in the limp mode. I went to four different repair shops (three German car specialists and one dealer). Each did a standard diagnostic check using software (easy to do) and declared that the car was most likely irreparable. Cyprus VW even told me to simply donate the car, telling me that repair would cost about $14,000. Phil from European Cars suggested that I go to Heights Autohaus. (Phil was not one of the four by the way but someone whose advice I trusted). Heights Autohaus repaired the car. The cost was not cheap, but certainly less than $14,000 and the cost of a new car. My impression is that they employ real mechanics/service people who can look past what the computer tells them and determine what can be done to fix the issue. Of course these guys can do standard repairs like brakes and oil changes, but their real talent appears to be actually resolving more complex repairs that others will not or cannot touch. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Autohaus in Houston. I brought my car in to replace the brakes because the warning light was on. There was no noise before the service. The moment I picked up my car, it started making noise. I had to bring it back four different times, and each visit I was given a different explanation. The final excuse was that the noise was coming from the brakes they "didn't replace" and that it was just a coincidence. That explanation made no sense. When I asked for a refund, they raised their voices and were rude instead of taking responsibility. I felt dismissed and not taken seriously. Their attitude changed completely once there was an issue. I would not return and would not recommend this shop. read more

I used to love this place but the former manager James left and now it's run by the incompetent owner and new manager. They replaced a mirror a few months back but it was faulty so I brought it back. They let the car sit outside their shop for 6 days, then subbed out the work to BMW midtown and had it towed there without my consent. When it arrived it had errors codes for transmission, brakes, and restraint system and was deemed undriveable. I talked to the owner Scott because the manager took the day off and he said "I'll look into it, but I'm not gonna kiss your @ss" (I was frustrated but never raised my voice or used foul language with him). The manager calls me the next day and says the car was working fine before he had it towed and it's no longer their problem, and if I want my car I have to go to BMW midtown. So I took my car in for a mirror "blind spot detection" error, and now have to go find it at another repair shop and pay thousands to make it driveable. Beware of these guys. They don't care about your vehicle and there's a chance you'll have real problems when you get it back. read more

I have taken my 1972 Mercedes S Class to Heights Autohaus several times, and have been pleased every time I've gone. Mark (owner) is extremely knowledgeable, even about older automotive technologies that most shops in town struggle with. I've also found them to be very straight forward and honest. Mark said a particular job on my car would take 3 hours, and even though he had to spend 5 hours on it, he stuck with his original quote and only billed 3 hours. If you have an older german vehicle, this is the place to take it. read more

BEWARE of this terrible business! Reno the manager is extremely rude and has NO CLUE the status of the cars in this shop. I brought my 2020 Audi Q3 in for some minor work and upon leaving the shop my car started smoking and the engine seized up. A $1200 job turned into a $$$$ high expense. They did not put the car back together correctly and it just spiraled out of control. They have one mechanic working at a given time and many over promised customers. Also they go through about a different manager each month....so be prepared to talk to someone new and explain the situation over and over and over. -save yourself the headache and money....go somewhere else!!!! read more

Short version: My 2005 Mercedes CLK 500 with 60k was most likely stolen from here. The owner Mark claims to have no idea what happened to it. After several attempts to work something out with him he refused all responsibility and told to file a claim on my insurance. Long detail version: My car would not shift beyond second gear. I saw that this shop had decent reviews and was pretty close to me. I used AAA to tow my car over so they can take a look. Scott said the diagnostic from the Star system would be $110 and I agree. After a week he finally got back to me and said my transmission would need a new valve body/conductor plate. He said this was a Mercedes dealer only item and that it would take some time to get. I was quoted $2,500 for the part and $1,500 for the labor which I agreed to. My car sat here for over a year. Every time I would call Scott said that the part had not arrived. After 8 months I showed up in person and demanded to know what was going on with my car. Scott said he now believes that it's a software issue that is causing my limp mode. He then told me to just give me a little more time I figure it out. Against my gut feeling I agreed. After a year I called to see what was going on. Mark answered the phone. I said hello, I'm calling about my silver convertible CLK. He said there was no such car fitting that description here. I told him that Scott took the keys to my car over a year ago. He said Scott is no longer with the company that he had to let him go. I said ok, what about my car? He told me he would call me back within a week. So a week went by and still no call. I called the shop again and he said to give him another week to try and get in touch with Scott to get to the bottom of this, I said ok. Another week went by and no return call. I stopped by the shop personally to see what the issue was and he give me a sad story that he has been out due to health reason and a blood fusion. He said just give him one more week, I was like ok fine. So another week went by and still no call back. I stopped by the shop again to ask about my car. He said had no idea where Scott was and sorry that he couldn't be of anymore help. I told him where is my car? I want my car. If you don't have my car then you need to file a stolen car on your insurance. He basically throw his hands up in the air and said sorry no, but you are welcome to make a police report and file a claim on your own insurance. I talked with my lawyer and he said technically the shop is responsible and that they needed to file a police report and an insurance claim. But he said with Covid there is a lot of back log and that it might just be quicker and faster and less of a headache to use my insurance. In the end I just chose to file a police report and a claim with my insurance and I am still in the process after one month. I just wanted to share my unpleasant experience with this shop and warn people that if anything were to ever happened to your car that the owner Mark will not take any responsibility. read more

My first experience at Heights Autohaus was a few months ago, and it was very positive. I had a 1993 318i BMW. It was my pride and joy, and as a woman I'm very wary of taking my car somewhere without a man. I called the day before to schedule an oil change, and they fit me in first thing the next morning. The lobby waiting area is small and not very well insulated, but they have a fish tank and some magazines. My car was in and out in less than an hour, and they used regular oil instead of synthetic for my 20 year old car with 175,000+ miles. The oil change cost exactly what I thought it would. I asked them to replace my air filter, and instead they cleaned it out for free because it didn't need to be replaced. Today was a completely different story, though. I recently purchased a 2005 325i with about 100,000 miles and took it in this morning for an oil change. You can imagine my surprise when they wanted to charge me $80 more than what I paid last time. I told the owner this, and he said that last time must have been a mistake and that $138 is what they always charge. I have never in my life paid more than $50 for an oil change, nor has anyone I know ever paid that much. He went to his computer and adjusted the price for me, and then he very condescendingly said that this will be the last time that I pay $50 for an oil change. Well, he's right because I will never take my car there for an oil change again. After consulting with my dad and his mechanic, a Bosch Certified Mechanic like this place, I am convinced that the owner of this shop is not running a clean business. My dad's mechanic said that I should get a break-down of parts and labor even for an oil change, which this shop did not do. Some other reviewers have commented on the owner, a man named Mark, and his poor customer service and surly way of speaking to customers. This is absolutely true. It seems to me that the two main mechanics, Scott and Brent, charge customers one set of prices, which are perfectly reasonable, while the owner charges something completely different and much higher. This is not a good way to run a business if you want to keep your customers. I am thinking about calling Bosch or even BBB to report them. read more

I give them 2 stars because on a good day, when they're not busy, and your repair is relatively straight forward, you can get good service at a decent price. If they're busy and your car will require more attention to diagnose and repair, DON'T waste your time. If you're brave enough to try them, STAY on them EVERYDAY until your car is repaired. Get firm commitments of cost estimates and anticipated times for repair. When they start making excuses for why something didn't get done, stop them in their tracks and get a firm YES or NO if you should continue on with them. They had my car for TWO MONTHS and by their own admission only attempted to diagnose the problem once or twice. When one of the good mechanics left for another job, my car was left sitting for weeks and all I received is excuse after excuse, delay after delay. Finally at 2 months, I had my car towed to another shop that had it repaired (AND an oil change!!) in under 2 days! I was a loyal customer of Heights Autohaus for years and never had any problems with the owner (& chief mechanic) or his lead mechanic. The service was always good. I'm not sure what happened to change that but the last time I left their shop, I felt absolutely disrespected for having been lied to for 2 months. So beware--when they're good, they're good and worth a try. When they're challenged with too much insurance claim work, vacations, sickness, staffing levels, wedding rehearsals, etc., RUN AWAY from this shop!!! Good luck!!! read more

I took my 1980 Mercedes 240D that I recently bought in for an oil change. Other mechanics in the area refused to look at it because of its age, which is their loss. I was happy that Scott was both incredibly knowledgeable and excited to take a look. He said he owned some of these old diesels for many years. He went above and beyond lifting it up just for me to see some of the trouble areas to keep in mind for the future so that this car lasts as long as it can. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

I have never been more pleased with service at a shop before. After a terrible experience having my concerns ignored at Momentum Mini on the SW Freeway, I brought my car in here because something just didn't seem right and I needed an oil change anyways. They got me in immediately, dropped me off at home, and within a few hours confirmed that there was something very, very wrong with my 2011 Mini...the turbocharger was overheating and could catch fire. Here is what makes them stand out - Mark told me exactly what was wrong and that I should have my car towed to Mini to have this fixed because it was under warranty and he didn't want to charge me for work they'd do for free. They changed my oil as I requested, Mark told me which other dealership to go to that would be more helpful, and even printed out the codes for the other shop. Not very many people are as ethical as the guys at Heights Autohaus and would have gladly charged me thousands of dollars without a second thought. read more

Took my car to them on Monday morning by 8am. By Tuesday morning they hadn't looked at it. How do we know? My husband called them. By Wednesday afternoon we actually went to the shop and they still hadn't looked at the car and offered no real explanation. Thursday we called them again and were told they were out of power for 3 hours, they still hadn't looked at the car. Here it is Friday morning and still nothing. My husband went and asked for the keys to his car. Now the car is at the dealer, should have gone there first. Within 15 min. I had already received a text message that my car is being looked at and who I could call if I had questions. It doesn't take additional staff and it doesn't have to be a big time operation to be "courteous and professional" as they claim on their website. They were neither with us!! But communication is critical!!!!!! read more

This review is for Heights Autohaus on Shepherd Dr. at 14th. Please, avoid Mark's shop at all costs. I have never experienced such poor customer service, or quality of work in my 25 years of taking cars to the repair shop. Beware, he is an extraordinarily condescending and rude human being. He refuses to return phone calls--a very bad sign. When he does elect to answer the phone, he is curt. Our car required suspension work for noise coming from the front end and a fuel sender to be replaced. The car was returned to us, after one week, supposedly fixed, but with the original noise still eminating from the front, and the entire car reeked of fuel. We were told by the kids working on the car that the fuel smell would go away, and that the noise from the front end was "probably the fender liner" and would clear up. Neither happened. Upon finally reaching Mark to clear this up, he said, curtly, bring it in and he would look at it. Long story short--an additional 12 DAYS went by, meanwhile I'm paying on a rental. Final shop bill was for 1.2 hrs of total work! 1.2 hrs of work in 12 DAYS?? To get any information from this shop was like pulling teeth. And everytime we made contact, there were excuses, and plenty of them. Mark, the customer comes first. We were very gracious, and you took complete advantage of us. Best I can do is to warn others--STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP!! One note here: Because there is no option for NO stars, I had to chose ONE star. read more

This happened 4 times until I had enough and spend every dime that I had to fix this and the problem, which is still present. They replaced half my engine and still nothing. I had dropped off my BMW 545i on Saturday because it was overheating. Mark sounded nice and said he would take care of it and that they would call me on Monday to see what is going on. After work I remembered I left some papers in my car that I needed so I stopped by. The shop was closed but my car was sitting outside unlock and with the keys on top of the dash. WTH... Anyone could have taken off with my car. I shook my head and called AAA immediately to have my car towed back home until I could find a professional place to take it too. I called back on Monday and told them I did not appreciate them leaving my car outside unlock and with the keys totally visible. He said he didn't know what I was talking about pretended that I never even stopped by to drop off my car and I was mistaken them for another shop. After having my 2005 Mini Cooper towed here, the lead tech advised it would be a while until he could look at it. After 2 days, he simply plugged my car into his CODE READER and said I had a bad alternator. He then quoted $1800 to replace it within the week. I told him that I would have it towed elsewhere because that was the same thing AUTO ZONE told me after reading the codes. The reason for the 1 STAR review is because of the customer service (or lack thereof), and also because I was charged $105 for him to spend 5 minutes on my car and then mumble about not being able to check much more because "the alternator not working could cause lots of other problems". So, all in all, I did not agree to an inspection fee and there was no way they were letting me tow my car to the dealership without paying. So of course, I paid it because I didn't want to deal with the nonsense anymore. Ripoff. If you have to come here, get things in writing. read more

These guys are great. I have a vintage VW bus that I was having trouble finding a good mechanic to work on these old air cooled relics. It took a while for me to locate all the parts as they are not all that available for a vehicle of this age (1968). The mechanics were helpful and interested in making sure that the job was done right. I know that they work on the higher end imports, but the care they gave to the restoration of my piece of vw history was incredible, I feel like the price I paid was more than fair considering the time I had the bus at their facility. I took my 1999 VW Cabrio in because it had some codes preventing from passing inspection, primarily the secondary air pump, they said no problem. No one called my by day 3 for an estimated labor/parts cost. I called them and was informed that while attempting to work on the car the crystal globe I had hanging from my rear view mirror got bumped and shattered my windshield. They replaced it but it surly added to the 9 days it was there. When I finally got it I was told that I needed to drive it for 70 miles to see if the code for the air pump would come back on. I did some driving and the basket that harnesses the fuses below my feet just fell down one day. Later that day I could tell the fuel filter needed to be fixed and attempt to open my hood, it was jammed shut. I took it back and they fixed the fuse box but was told it would need to be put up in the air to fix the hood and it wouldn't be a fixable item for the day. Not wanting to leave it there for who knows how long I went home. Once I had 70 miles on it I brought it back, on a Wednesday to check for codes and fix the hood. That was on Wednesday, they were working on it Thursday, I got a missed call Friday morning, it was the shop, they told me that they had taken it to a inspection place where they misunderstood and pryed the hood open only to break the latch! Was then told it happens on those cars frequently and locating another was difficult. Oh man! Luckily I had a 96 Cabrio that I'm parting out, I took of its latch myself and rode my bike to them where they installed it. Good lord! If you actually need your car, save yourself now and avoid this nightmare. read more
