The vet that we saw was not competent at all. I would never take any of my animals again!

It has taken me some time to write this review dealing with the grief of losing a pet. My wife and…read morehad been dealing with one of our ferrets having lymphoma and were maintaining their comfort and quality of life with medication as best we could. Unfortunately, one night it finally reached the point the medication was no longer helping their comfort. Due to it being late night on a Sunday our typical vet was not open and finding an emergency vet for a ferret is not an easy task. I came across MVMC online and called them immediately and staff were calm and friendly and explained we would likely be good to come in just to fill out an online form and call back prior to coming in. Once the form was completed I called back and we got the okay to come in and a vet would be available for us. Due to the nature of our visit it was such an extremely difficult moment for my wife and I both. Every single member of staff we interacted with gave us their forgiveness as well as our time/space we needed. We had a private room right away and got to spend as much time as we needed with our special fur baby to say our goodbyes. As well as all the time we needed with him after and we got to be with him during the entire process. During this extremely difficult moment in our life the staff gave us the time and condolences we needed. We also appreciate everything we got including a letter from the staff in memory of our forever loved ferret!

Maine Veterinary Medical Center would not treat our pet rabbit in a crisis/emergency situation…read morerecently. If you're reading this and have what's considered a pocket or exotic pet, I would not rely on these folks for help. We called at 9pm and were told the doctor "didn't feel comfortable working on rabbits". We were told to call back at 3am when the shift changed. We called at 3am and were told the new doctor was "deathly allergic to rabbits". We were told to call back at 6am when the shift changed again, but that the new doctor probably wouldn't be able to help us either. Okay? And when we called at 6am, we were told that the new doctor (as predicted by the 3am call) "just couldn't do a rabbit right now". Never once did they recommend any other vet to us; but, lots of other vets we called recommended MVMC to us. How supportive they all were; how discouraged and strung along we felt by MVMC. If you need urgent veterinary care for your your pocket/exotic pet (and it's the weekend and you can keep them stable until noon), I'd suggest calling Angelus in Kennebunk and don't waste your time trying with Maine Veterinary Medical Center who maybe can help, but probably won't.

We are deeply grateful to the entire team at Scarborough Animal Hospital for the compassion,…read moreurgency, and professionalism they showed during one of the most heartbreaking experiences we've ever faced with our cat, Bowie. We brought Bowie in after only six days of having him due to concern for urinary issues. From our perspective, he had been symptomatic since day one, with frequent urination despite otherwise appearing like a bright, healthy boy and eating his prescription diet. We had also been repeatedly requesting his full medical records from the shelter we adopted him from, but did not receive them until the day we rushed him in for evaluation and further care. At his appointment, the team immediately identified an emergent urinary blockage on assessment and acted quickly. It was only then that we were able to fully comprehend his medical history from the shelter records, which revealed severe and complex prior issues including FIC, two recent urinary blockages requiring surgical intervention, complications from repeated catheter removal and internal trauma, and other significant health concerns that we had not been informed of prior to adoption. We had initially hoped we might be able to discuss elective PU surgery to prevent future issues, but it quickly became clear this was an emergency situation and he was already blocked. After thorough discussion with the veterinary team, we were advised that Bowie's condition was extremely serious and would require a third unblocking procedure and eventual PU surgery if he became stable enough after the initial medical treatment. Even with intervention, he would remain at high risk for recurrence and ongoing medical complexity that would decrease his quality of life and raise the question of euthanasia. In light of his condition and prognosis, we made the devastating decision to medically surrender Bowie so he could receive continued emergency treatment. The hospital proceeded with his care pro-bono following the surrender, which we will always be profoundly thankful for. Despite the devastating circumstances, the entire team treated us with compassion, honesty, and without judgment. They focused entirely on what was best for Bowie, and made an unbearable situation feel supported and dignified. We are especially thankful for Dr. Sara Gould and Dr. Sabrina Williams and their expertise, clear communication, and extraordinary compassion throughout this process. We will always be thankful that Bowie was met with such care and dignity in his medical journey, and for the humanity this team showed us during an incredibly painful goodbye. They are truly angels and I am forever grateful they were able to help my beautiful boy. We love you, Bowie.

I'm aware of the policy but life happens. There was just once I couldn't pay same day because something came up but told them I'd pay then that Friday first thing but Maddie had to make sure that my husband and I felt like complete garbage first. This was back in December and fast forward to March when I'm getting my dog fixed the manager called me to make sure I was going to pay that day for my dogs surgery in full and I said ate you serious right now? Yes he will be paid for in full that day, all because I wasn't able to pay ONE time? Then today I missed my dogs appointment, I just lost my mother and my brain isn't quite all there at the moment but that didn't stop Maddie from leaving a snotty voicemail to tell me they are charging 65 dollars to my account. Today was my last encounter ever with that place. I will not take one of my pets there if it were the last vet on earth.

My wife and I were compelled to bring our dog when our original vets retired and sold his business. We felt that the vet that followed was chasing the money. I had my chow-retriever in because this was the clinic he began with. He unfortunately died in November. I found a dog at AWS who is in service dog training me for my anxiety and wartime PTSD. We've been with the clinic since January and find it efficient, clean, prompt, and affordable. For vaccinations (boosters), tick meds, examination and consultation the bill came to $203.86 and I honestly expected it to be twice that amount. We are very pleased.

I brought my dog in to have a vaccination shot. I asked if I could also speak to the vet for approximately 5 minutes because I had a question about my dogs' behavior. I was the only one in the place. I was told that no, I was just here for a vaccination and would have to make a separate appointment if I wanted to speak to the vet. When we were back in the room, I again asked if I could have 5 minutes of the vet's time for a basic question about my dog's behavior. Again, I was told that I was here for the vaccination and not an appointment with the vet. I thought that if I had an appointment at the vet clinic, I would not need a separate appointment to speak with the vet. Apparently so. Granted by this time I was pretty disgusted with the whole situation. Made a comment that "it's not rocket science" (which that comment was put in my dog's medical record). Finally, I just told them to give my dog the vaccine. Now, my dog has had multiple vaccines without even so much as a whimper or a flinch. Well today, my dog flinched. He even urinated on the table which he has never done previously when receiving a vaccine. I promptly requested that all my dog's medical records be emailed to me because I would not be returning to this clinic. The email prefaced that they had inactivated my account, and I should find a clinic that can better suit my needs. Hmmmm, my needs were to speak to a vet when I was present at the vet clinic. After relaying this experience to a coworker, she stated that she had gone there ONCE and it was a horrific experience. I was told that their business practice has drastically declined in the recent years. I am witness to that.
