He told me to wait for it to heal to come back and get it outlined again, free of charge. I wait for it to heal, call back, they gave me his email. I emailed Seagh, he replies once saying nothing relevant at all. I called back the store, they said they have no idea what his schedule is so if I want it fixed, I'd have to ask him. Well four emails later, I guess he doesn't feel like replying. If he can mess up such a simple heart outline, don't trust him to do more complicated pieces. It's not even about the money. I had an excellent experience with Chris Barton at Sacred Heart. His work, which delves primarily in blacks, greys, midtones and photorealism, was perfect for the tattoo I had in mind. Originally I was trying to book with Emily, but she's very popular (like Chris) and they were both booked till May. Not sure how, but Chris was able to squeeze me into his Friday only two days before the appointment. It was very generous of him. It took a few calls to set something up, but I finally got in touch with Chris once Emily called me and hooked me up with him. The shop is very clean. It's a bit hard to find, but once you get into the building and walk up the stairs through their entrance, you can tell they put in a lot of effort to clean their shop. It's also obvious how much they care about and love their work. The shop owner even introduced himself and gave me a warm welcome during the session. Chris was extremely friendly. It doesn't hurt that he's also very attractive, kind've a beardy hipster type with cool sleeves, pretty eyes, and a nice smile. We chatted the entire time he was working on my tattoo. His hand is very steady and his work is clean. What I ended up coming in for, an inner arm tattoo of an 18th century panopticon diagram with print artifacts and fine lines, looks superb. It's still healing, mind you, so it might still look shiny in the photos attached here. Chris was easy to work with. We traded phone numbers and emails so I could send him my examples. He did an excellent job with the transfer once we were sitting down to ink the piece, and only after a couple attempts at transfer placement did he have it down the way we wanted. I definitely felt like Chris listened to me, which is super important. Chris's work is typically more on the photorealistic side of things, so keep that in mind when you're looking at the photos. It's a really sick tattoo and he nailed it. Looks just like the diagram as it was printed on paper. The fine lines, artifacts, and "smudge" look in certain areas was part of the original design. I highly recommend Chris (for black and greys) and Emily (for color). I'm planning to come back next year for an additional arm piece from Chris. read more

I received my first (and as of now, only) tattoo from Emily Effler at Sacred Heart in L5P. So while I can't speak to this studio as it compares to other tattoo places, I can say without hesitation that it's a great spot for a newbie to get inked. Emily made the entire process a pleasure. We corresponded through email before my appointment and I gave her an idea of what I was looking for. When I arrived at the studio she had a few different design ideas for me to review. We selected a favorite, tweaked it a bit and she finalized a design for my tattoo within a few minutes. She was very mindful of the fact that this was my first time getting a tattoo. During each step of the process she explained what she was doing and gave me tips for things to watch for, should I decide to get more tattoos from other artists in the future. Things like, "always make sure they are opening new packages of needles and equipment." That's an important one. When she first started applying ink to skin, she told me what she'd just color in a small dot first--in case the pain was too unbearable, I'd be left with a new mole and no harm done. I appreciated her concern although the process wasn't painful at all. The end result is stunning and I am completely enamored with my first tattoo. It is a vivid and unique work of art. Emily sent me home with detailed instructions on how to care for it and treat my skin during the recovery period. Much appreciated. The studio itself is clean, bright and well maintained while still maintaining a bit of an edge that you'd expect from a spot in L5P. I felt very comfortable for the duration of my appointment. If I ever decide to get another tattoo in the Atlanta area I'll come back here in a heartbeat. read more

Ive gotten most of my tattoos here, but this was more important, cause it was father son bonding time. Go ahead and burn me on it, but he wanted to get 2 tattoos as his birthday present from me. So that me thinking that there is no way I can walk into a tattoo shop without getting something done. As we were both walk ins we were both worked up pretty fast, the place was dead, but I have no clue how busy it can get. At first Loki was kinda puzzled by what I wanted, but did it anyways. We got going, and less then an hour later he was done. I was kinda shocked how fast it was. The location was my ribs on my right side, and he forewarned me about the pain but Im ok with that. He kept mentioned how good I was about the pain not complaining or passing out, or needing a break, which made him work faster. He was a cool dude, kept talking about all kinds of randomness, making me think less about the pain. He was good about telling me what to do to care for it. And I got the lyrics: Dear Prudence, Meet The Brand New Day. In script. It looks beyond amazing. Ill be back to get more done by him asap. read more

Got my third and fourth tattoo yesterday with Josh. I talked to him on the phone earlier in the day, and he was extremely helpful already. He did not seem annoyed by all my questions and concerns, and he was very willing to wash off and reprint the tattoo. THANK GOD I went to him! We tried like 5 times till it was perfect. Josh is extremely efficient and talented. I am absolutely in love with my tattoos! Plus, we had a great conversation. (LOL He knows a lot about the Asian culture.) I hate it when the tattoo artist sits there and doesn't give a single f***. On top of all that, the price was fair. Definitely recommending the shop to my friends! :) It's so close to Emory, and with all the bars down the street=AMAZING!! Back in the day, when I decided to get my first tattoo, I ended up at Tornado Tattoo in Little 5 Points. One look at the dim lighting, grimy interior and employee smoking a cigarette indoors told me that I wasn't in the right shop for me. So, I walked across the street to Sacred Heart and I've never looked back. The shop is clean and bright and the employees (whether they're your artist or not) are always friendly. Though I've been to different artists over the years, Travis is now my go-to guy. He's talented, creative and a great conversationalist (which is of great importance considering you might just be sitting or laying in the same spot for a few hours). I would (and do) recommend Travis and Sacred Heart to anyone. read more

Got my first tattoo here on Saturday! Mari was the one who worked on me and she was awesome. I explained to her that I was nervous and she was very patient and encouraging. My tattoo was very small, so the process was very quick and there weren't a lot of details to work with. However, I will be going back to Mari again in the future, as she has an incredible portfolio. My friend also came with me and got a more complicated piece done by Seagh. She wanted a neo-traditional piece done on her calf and Seagh jumped at the chance to work on it, as that is his style. It was a very well-done tattoo that had a lot of details and looked very crisp/clean. Seagh himself was also very funny and nice. I believe my friend will be getting several more tattoos from him in the future. The store itself was very cool and clean. They have tons of awards hanging up on the walls that are, in a way, reassuring that you are in good hands. The process for signing in is fast and easy. The *only* criticism I have is that the walk-in process for my friend took over 4 hours. She stated that she wanted a tattoo as soon as we walked in at 12:00 PM and they told her that that was fine. I got my tattoo done and Seagh said to give him an hour or two to draw up my friend's design. We walked over to a nearby store and then came back an hour and a half later and Seagh had started working on someone else. He took another 30 minutes to an hour to finish the guy he was working on, then finally got to my friend, whose tattoo took about 2 and a half hours. So, in short, we got there at 12 PM for my appointment and my friend stayed there until about 5:00 PM. So, while I won't take a star off of this review for that, it was certainly frustrating, especially because I had other appointments to get to. In short, if you're in a hurry, don't come in as a walk-in. Make an appointment and they'll be able to help you super quickly. Mari and Seagh are amazing and I highly recommend both of them. :) read more

Have you ever thought you had the GREATEST tattoo idea ever, then regretted it the first time your friends got drunk enough to tell you the truth? That isn't going to happen at Sacred Heart. I've taken more than a handful of friends there for their first tattoo, or to complete work another artist dropped the ball on, or for people who are new to Atlanta and need an artist they can trust after leaving their old home behind. I found Sacred Heart when I followed the two artists I adore the most - KC Wagner and Loki Shane Defriece. KC did my first tattoo when I was 18. It still shocks people, first they don't believe how old I am, and then they definitely don't believe how old my tattoos are. KC currently only works appointments, but you can check out his portfolio at the shop. Or ask me about my back piece ;p I met Loki out and about in Atlanta, he is friendly to strangers even when they aren't making him money. He did a 'moving-on' piece for me and warned me it wouldn't look the way others might expect it to look; it was perfectly the way I imagined, my hair covers it now, but I proudly showed it off for a long time. He has also done other non-traditional work because it is what I needed. I could go on forever about my tats from the boy. I took a friend for a mother memorial piece, what he wanted was something easily misinterpreted. Rather than ink him on the neck and just let him walk out the door, Loki talked with him about the consequences of such a visible cliché. They found something just as meaningful that he would have less chance of regretting later. (bats on your neck are just kinda goth, this friend wasn't and isn't goth) And here is another pride point in my tattoo boys and myself (the canvas) I'm getting more work crawling up my leg soon! Hurray for pulling pieces together into one bigger work. If you love ink or are curious, check out several shops. You will probably like the artists (and customers) at Sacred the best. read more

I have been friends with tattoo artists and generally interested in the whole industry since 1999. 14 years and hundreds of hours of being tattooed later, I would like to think I know a good shop from a bad one. While Atlanta has some tattoo cesspools, there are also some gems. Sacred Heart is one of them. From the owner Tony Olivas to the manager, Loki, this is a great shop with great respect in the tattooed community that only hires artists with potential to improve and competitive pricing. Loki and Josh are phenomenal. My lady and I wandered in one evening with the intent of commemorating our Atlanta visit with a little permanent ink. Not only did they take us both immediately, Loki took ladyfriend's idea and ran with it, drawing up in a few short minutes one of the loveliest octopi I've seen. Soon after that, we were both on the table, getting inked. I won't say it was painless (hell, you're getting needles thrust into your skin at incredible speeds), but it was pretty darn close. I had to stop myself from laughing at some points because it actually tickled. Anyway, Josh's work was fantastic, and he was certainly a champ and a blast to chat with, but the standout of the night was Loki's octopus. His random, free-formed sketch turned into a true work of art when transfered onto skin, into which he put a heck of a lot of detail for such a small piece. The colors almost hurt my eyes with their loveliness. The price was quite reasonable, and the result will bring a lifetime of happiness. I went in to make an appointment for a huge piece. I called ahead and talked to the owner. When I got there he was a bit rude and cut me off a few times. I felt like he just didn't really care. I was then greeted by the artist who was actually going to tattoo me, and she more than made up for it. She really helped me plan my tattoo, even though she wasn't supposed to work that day. Loki D is a ink God that walks amongst non inked mortals!!! Lol Love him and his work! Totally professional and gifted. Cool shop, very clean, it's a kick in the nuts to walk up all those stairs tho lol no children allowed but some exceptions can be made. Loki has just about completed my pirate sleeve in collaboration with other skilled artists and gave my kid his first tattoo. He even gave my son the biggest compliment telling him you must be a natural bro, didn't flinch, your mom takes the needle well too! Being my son thinks I walk on water that was the ultimate compliment anyone couldve ever given him! Lol loki is well traveled, enjoys good food, dope bands, and is a atl native.
