An adorable small winery located in Julian! During our day trip to Julian, we stopped by Volcan Mountain Winery for a cheeky little drink. I had heard about their famed apple wine and had to check it out! We each got a glass of their 2021 Dolcezza Dulce, Estate Grown Hart Family Orchard. It's a slightly sweet apple wine produced entirely from apples from their orchard. Super crisp and light- perfect to enjoy on a sunny day!
Made a day trip to Julian and stopped here for a quick taste of the Apple wine while in the area. The tasting room was full and the staff/associate that served us was friendly. We tried the Apple wine and one dessert wine. Dessert wine was very good. The Apple wine was light and easy drinking. My wife rarely drinks however she finished the taster. We bought a bottle of the Apple wine and visited a number of other locations in the area. We will return to this winery in the future. It was a very hot day and not many of the places we visited had AC.
EXCELLENT service! We were well taken care of. Although they weren't offering tastings at the time, we sampled 3 wines before making our pick. All the reds we tasted were delicious, but we went with a full bodied, tannic Malbec. The person leading our tasting even gave us a 2-for-1 deal for our glasses. Each of them were a healthy pour. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Overall, it was a great experience. Their regular pricing is as follows: around $15 for a full glass of wine around $15 for a 4 wine tasting
Came here on a beautiful February Saturday and the vibes were so good. Amazing, friendly, service. Dog friendly, plenty of seating, and amazing views. We got a natural wine and it was so delicious, highly recommend trying one! This winery wasn't in our original plan but after Blue Door Winery was super rude to us we decided to come here and were so glad we did!
The people working here are so kind and accommodating. They gave my mom and me an extra wine tasting glass because there was a specific one I really wanted to try, which was such a thoughtful touch. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the outdoor seating is gorgeous. It was a little too cold for us to sit outside, but I would have loved it otherwise. I also think it's really cool that they let you bring your own snacks. Overall just a really pleasant spot. I wish this place were closer to me because I would definitely be a frequent visitor.

I was in the area helping out a friend with apple picking, and a worker from the winery was kind enough to give us extra bottles of water for our hard work. The inside was very clean and relaxing, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I was going to order a flight of wines, but decided on a full bottle of their apple wine instead that was recommended of the staff. It was very crisp and sweet and light. Great place to visit if you're in the area, I will be back to try out more wines.
I stopped by here to help a friend harvest crab apples that reside on their estate. After working hard, I was relaxing on their patio as they were opening. The staff asked if I was waiting for wine tasting and I explained I weas just relaxing for a minute. Instead, they offered us cold waters which I was very thankful for! So we decided to get a bottle of wine bit later and ordered the apple wine. It was excellent, although a little sweet. Very refreshing though. They also had some tasty snacks available and a hot food was available outside as well. Overall, it was a great experience and I am especially grateful to their very friendly staff.

I came with my family during a holiday weekend and we would have really enjoyed playing bags in the sunshine but most of them had holes in them. Kind of a sad vibe to see broke stuff lying around. I also had bad service but they don't have wifi.

Stopped by Volcan winery on a very hot Saturday afternoon. It was pretty busy inside, luckily there was some shaded seating outside. Tried a bottle of their Chardonnay and it was very refreshing and crisp. The inside area is pretty loud, the employees are all attentive and helpful. read more
Great Vibe... The Wine, Not So Much After escaping the Grape Stomp Festa , we stopped at Volcan Mountain Winery, and honestly, the tasting room was a much better experience. The atmosphere is really nice--very chill and relaxing, with friendly and welcoming staff. It's the kind of place where you can sit back, enjoy the scenery, and hang out for a while. One of the coolest things is the location right next to the Volcan apple farm. There are apple trees everywhere, which really gives you that Julian fall experience. We were even able to pick a few apples, which ended up being one of the highlights of the day. Now... let's talk about the wine. Maybe Temecula Valley has spoiled me, but these wines just weren't doing it for me. We tried several, and unfortunately, they tasted pretty cheap compared to what I'm used to drinking in Temecula. Nothing really stood out enough to make me want to take a bottle home. Basically, I liked the winery more than I liked the wine. Would I come back for the chill atmosphere, friendly staff, apple-country scenery and overall vibe? Absolutely. Would I make the drive specifically for the wine? Probably not. Vibe: 9/10 Staff: 10/10 Location: 10/10 Wine: 4/10 Overall, it's a cool stop when you're in Julian--especially during apple season. Come for the vibe and the scenery... just don't expect Temecula Valley-level wine. read more
Volcan Mountain Winery is such a nice little Julian winery with plenty of options to explore. The ladies working there were amazing -- super friendly, welcoming, and really intentional about helping you find something that fits your taste. They make the whole experience feel easy and relaxed. There's a small indoor tasting area and a shaded outdoor picnic‑table setup right in the vineyard. It's a great spot to hang out, listen to the music they have playing, and take in some really pretty views (perfect for snapping a few photos). It's kid‑friendly and dog‑friendly, which makes it an easy stop for groups or families. They also offer apple wine, which was really fun to try for the first time -- something different and very Julian. A simple, friendly, scenic winery that's perfect for a laid‑back tasting day. read more

After apple picking, we like to walk across the way to Volcan Mountain Winery to relax for a few minutes and enjoy a glass of their yummy apple wine. They usually have live music and food vendors with plenty of outdoor seating. Price for a glass is $9 and $28 for a whole bottle. We typically will enjoy a glass there and buy a couple of bottles to gift. read more

Haven't been back since 3 years ago and this winery gotten so much cooler. There's plenty of outside seating now in the orchard and vineyard. It's beautiful. The wines are pretty good too! The lady was awesome and let us try it before we bought 2 bottles. We got a white and a red. I forgot what we got but it was tasty. Better than the one down the street as we just came from there. Since it's outside seating, dog friendly! Very hot but nice on a beautiful day. read more

This was our first time visiting Julian, and someone at Calico Cider recommended we try Volcan Mountain Winery because they have the best view. When we got there it was the one place that had plenty of guests on a Friday afternoon, but not too crowded. Mel greeted us right away, and mentioned they weren't doing tastings that day, just glasses and bottles. But while we were deciding what we wanted to drink she let us taste quite a few options anyway to help us decide. The wine was great, but Mel was a true treat. We made conversation with her as she still walked around making everyone else feel attended to and she treated everyone like a friend. I mentioned to her that I forgot to apply sunscreen and she reached behind the counter for some and took me outside to spray me down. Talk about service. Then Mel gave us a full photo shoot inside because she wanted us to remember our first time in Julian. Aside from her great service, she knew a ton about their wine selection and was able to tell us all about flavors. We will 10/10 be back next time we're in town. Thanks again Mel! Outside is also very pretty, truly was the best view, and there's nice space to walk around and take photos if that's your vibe! read more
The Mrs. and I headed to Volcan Mountain Winery today after a great lunch at Julian Beer Company. Lisa at Hawk Watch winery suggested we pay them a visit. Volcan was only selling wine by the glass or bottle. So no tasting flights were offered. I don't know if that is the norm, but no one was complaining. Mel(Short for Melissa or Melinda I assume, but I could be wrong.) helped us out. We ended up taking a bottle of Barbera and sat outside. We had a great spot to people watch, but then it started to rain. We didn't care. The temperature dropped about ten degrees. Our table had an umbrella so we just sat there and enjoyed it. The rain lasted about a half hour. Meanwhile, more people showed. You can bring your own food if you choose. If there is one winery worth a visit in the Julian area, Volcan Mountain is the one. If you want incredible service, ask for Mel. read more

We had done many visits to Volcan winery, pretty much every time we are in Julian. They got the best apple wine, gorgeous views of the orchard, nice bench seating all around the property, so relaxing and beautiful. Customer service is personal and friendly, Mel is the best and has been working there for years! Knows Julian so well and happy to give local recommendations. Very family friendly, so kids are welcome. read more
My husband and I stumbled across this winery after we made a wrong turn on our way to go off roading. We were hungry and saw they had a tent selling sausage sandwiches out front. We are both red drinkers and we're very impressed with the quality of their wine. So we ended up joining their wine club! We didn't try any whites, so I can't say anything about them but all the reds were fantastic. read more

I was staying somewhere that had a beautiful view with a deck. I was craving the ability to sit with a glass of wine and watch the sun set on the mountains. Following signs for a different winery I drove past Volcan and saw a nice crowd sitting at picnic tables and enjoying the wine. The atmosphere is so homey and friendly. My two boys asked if they could run between the grape vines (we had gotten in trouble in Temecula) and the kind woman behind the counter gave them the go ahead with the admonishment to watch things they may trip over. They were off like a shot. I got to try out two wines and ended up buying a bottle of both. Sauvignon Blanc and an apple wine which I had never tried before. When in Rome right? I relaxed with a glass of wine while I enjoyed the scenery and the quiet. I will be back! read more
Looking for a few extra things to do in Julian and found this wonderful winery just up the mountain. We only tasted red and had a glass each. My husband had the Meritage and I stuck with the Barbara. Enjoyed the wines and very friendly staff! read more
Planned a trip to Julian for MDW and this place came up as a must see - let me tell you it did not disappoint. The drive up to it was a beautiful windy road and you can see farms and other vineyards on your way up. Parking was not a problem and neither was seating (we got there around 12?) I would recommend coming early though as it was quite packed as we were leaving Mel was the lady working and she is incredible. Greeted us right away and made us feel comfortable. I told her we liked reds so she suggested a few and gave us a few FREE pours so we can decide. We ended up with the "meritage" which was their house red blend and it was delicious. We finished the whole bottle and on top of that mad mikes sausages was serving food. There was also live music and they are dog friendly !!! My pup eddie had a great time - will be back and have already recommended to friends read more

As I previously mentioned this was my first time here in Julian. This was also my first time here at this winery. My local family recommended we visit here since we were at the nearby Julian Cafe for lunch. It was a gloomy rainy day when we visited. Since it was raining and the place was not busy the server allowed us to enjoy our wine inside their members only tabled area, which was more comfortable than drinking our wine outside under the elements. We enjoyed a glass of white wine for $9.28 and a bottle of their Barbara 2019 dry red wine for $40. I enjoyed my red wine. My total bill was $53 excluding gratuities for the bottle and one glass of white wine. We probably would return here for more wine the next time we visit Julian. read more

Just outside the downtown area of Julian about a mile and a half is Volcan Winery. The drive is quite nice and scenic. Owned and operated by a Hart Winery Family member theres a good deal of experience here. Nice outside area with seating for enjoying the the apple grove across the street. Inside the wine bar is small so it doesn't take a lot of customers to make it feel crowded. The wine is young, we were tasting 2016...I would say it will be even better in a couple years. My favorite was the Old Vine Zinfandel.. forgive me for I have zinned! Definitely stop by and do some tasting. Volcan Winery is a worthwhile step on your visit to Julian. read more

Was here during our trip we stopped at Volcan Mountain Winery due to a recommendation of fellow travelers. My friend sampled the wine tasting for $10. Great price for 6 delicious wines. Wait, did I say 6? Mel, the lovely owner of Volcan Mountain Winery, added a 7th wine sample called Apple A La Mode which was the hands down favorite. We would have stayed longer but we had to run off to buy pies. When we told Mel she recommended her favorite bakery and also said that if they were closed to tell them "Mel sent you." This is what I love about small towns. I hope that you get a chance to journey to Julian and if you do and if you love wine then make a stop at Volcan Mountain Winery. You won't regret it. read more
