Wowsy! What a find!!!! I stopped here because of flight delays and am so glad. This is authentic Indian at its best. I had the Mutter Paneer and it was crazy aromatic and delicious. The homemade paneer was creamy and the texture was perfect-dense and slightly spongy. The fresh lime soda was refreshing. The interior of the restaurant isn't fancy but it was clean, clean restrooms and service was attentive. I also visited the attached grocery and stocked up on spices. An old friend of mine recommended this Indian restaurant just across the street from where she lives. So while visiting, we went here for dinner. Upon entering the restaurant, no other guest were there. This was 5:30 in the afternoon. I know it's a Wednesday, but geez, if it's any good, there's gotta be guests sitting here. None zip. After reviewing the menu, I zeroed it on the butter chicken with a Coca-Cola to drink. I also ordered garlic naan bread. After a reasonable wait, , the food arrived. The butter sauce was delicious. The little bits of chicken had bone pieces in it, and some of the chicken was actually dry, sitting in a sauce which makes no sense, but OK. The garlic naan was good. For dessert, we shared an order of these balls, made with milk and coconut. These were awful, I couldn't even decipher what I was tasting. I didn't like. I didn't eat it. Left it right where it was sitting in the bowl. While we were finishing up two other parties were coming in to eat. So the hour and a half that we were there, three different parties of guests were having dinner. That's all I needed to know. This place is hard to get to you. Was happy to see a buffet available for lunch. Tried the eggplant, chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, onion pakoras, chili chicken bites and naan. Best thing was the onion pakoras, crispy and spicy, they were delicious. Everything else was boring. The chicken seemed reheated too many times, the masala was sweet (gross) and the korma was unremarkable. Eggplant was better than the chicken for sure, but just okay. I went here for lunch. There was only one other table seated when I arrived. I was warmly greeted and sat immediately. The menu is pretty standard for your typical Indain restaurant. There is an Indian grocery store attached, but i did not explore. The food was ok. I ordered the Kadai Chicken. The sauce was excellent; the chicken however, was quite dry. The portion size was appropriate. I was mildly dissapointed by the garlic naan. Great flavor, but the naan was quite thin. Ambiance was standard. Definitely a solid choice for Indian food in the Tampa Bay Area! The restaurant has a huge space, probably one of the biggest Indian restaurants I've been to in the area. If you are looking for a place to host large parties, this is a good place to go to. The servers here are super nice and are always willing to give you food suggestions. The portion sizes are also good for the price you pay. I got the Butter Chicken and the chunks of chicken were nice and tender and really soaked up the sauce. The sauce itself had a good balance of sweet, sour, and heat; making it the perfect complement for rice and naan bread. We visited the Indian grocery store there first and then enjoyed dinner afterwards. We had potato samosas, butter chicken and garlic naan. Samosas had a delicious, herby potato filling with a very pleasant stinging heat to them. They came with two delectable sauces. The butter chicken was crave worthy. Served with aromatic basmati rice. Where to begin. This is a restaurant that has two personas. One is, without a doubt, the worst service and experience I've ever had at any restaurant in the last five years. Being on the Titanic would have been a more pleasant experience. On the other side was the food, which was good, but only one dish was hot. The others? Lukewarm telling you it was sitting there a bit before it was brought out. Customer Service - I strongly recommend reading any book on customer experience, especially during a recession and increased inflation and its impact on the restaurant industry. 1. We made reservations. When we showed up, the host (who also turned out to be our server) didn't welcome us nor ask for our names. He just walked us to the table and left. 2. As a server, he was so-so. He took our order and answered some questions, and that was it. The only time he came by was to give you the check. Now I've been to many Indian restaurants, and each time they check on you, are happy to see you as a customer, and make sure everything is going well. Here? It's not happening. WARNING WILL ROBINSON, WARNING DO not trust the menu with any item they note as vegan. I quickly learned that some of the items are not vegan. Why does it say it? Because the chef doesn't know what is vegan or not, and they had input, i.e., identified these items in the menu. This is according to the server. For example, one dish is a yogurt (not a dairy free one). Another one has dairy in it, but it doesn't mention it. You have to ask. I want to stress this. You have to ask the server and rely on them. Even for those folks who can eat meat but can not have yogurt or cream, ask because they do not identify if these items exist in many areas of the menu. This is huge, especially if you are doing takeout or Doordash/Uber Eats, because all rely on the menu. B. There is an area in the restaurant that a bunch of kids were using as a playground. Running, playing, and running more. The parents didn't do anything. The manager never made an appearance while we were there, and the staff did nothing. This isn't McDonald's Playland. C. The person who brings you the food is unable to provide any information about what is what nor verifying anything. He just smiled. It was very clear that there was a language barrier. Which made it a challenge because said main server ghosted us. D. To get refills, we had to ask the person who was cleaning up the tables. He also brought out the bags and to go boxes. He should be promoted immediately because he was very nice, professional, and willing to assist. If I had cash on me, I would have given him the entire tip and then some. It's a bummer that all the tips are pooled together, so that the worst of the bunch, our server gets a cut. E. When we were leaving, our server/host said thank you twice. Never smiling. Awful. The food we (three of us) opened with an order of Samosas. Very good, but the sauces? I have no idea what was in them because the person who brought them out was the guy who smiled. And our server? Ghost. We also had a cauliflower dish with some rye of sauce. It's vegan and good, but spicy. Plus, we had Naan, early on. The mains? Chicken Tikka, the only dish that was hot, it came out first. There are way too many purple onions. It reminded me of a box of Jujubees, where there are always an ungodly amount of licorice ones compared to the other good flavor ones. The chicken was good but a bit tough according to my spouse. Our friend had the Tikka Masala and loved it. She also had some green dish that cheese it, I can't recall the name. She liked it. We had another order of Naan, and my spouse ordered Vidaloo. We love spice, but the dish was overpowered by it, and while I ate the potatoes, and she ate the chicken, neither of us was impressed. Here is my final recommendation. Make sure to find out if you are vegan or not have dairy, whether the dish you want has it. Especially those of us who are either vegan or Flexitarian. Never actually visited restaurant itself but it's my favorite place to order from on Door Dash. I have had Tikka Masala and Butter Masala with Garlic Naan Bread. It's quite away from me, nearly 10miles but food ALWAYS arrived hot, fresh, great portion size, overall great value for money. It's my favorite Indian in this area! Ordered food for about 80$ - Absolute let down. What really got me is, I ordered tamarind sauce, extra and paid for it. They literally gave me a container of tamarind sauce with added water. It only comes with one we had to choose. We chose the rice. We decided to order naan as well. 25 minutes later the soup came out with the naan. Not sure why it took so long. The soup was horrible and the naan was not even warm. After that It took 20 more mins for our food to come out. Guess what! It had rice and naan on the plate. I came here with the family for my sons graduation about a week ago, the service is just terrible. I love the food here as I have been here a handful of times but the service continues to get worse. We had to beg them to bring us water, the main course came out without the naan and it took about 15 minutes later for the naan to come and by then the food was cold. It is hard to even judge the food anymore as I got frustrated with the wait time. Luckily I have recently stumbled upon a new restaurant in Largo called Aroma and that is located about 15 minutes away from Deccan but certainly worth going to for the food and service. Since moving to Tampa, I have loved going to Deccan each time, the service continues to decline and the staff just doesnt seem to understand any of it. We have been going to Deccan Spice for over five years. When we started going it was wonderful. The service was pretty good and the food was great. But it has apparently been taken over by new people (although they deny that) and it has gone downhill fast. We went on a Saturday night and it was virtually empty. And we quickly learned there was a good reason for that. We got a new 2-day-on-the-job waitress who as bad as she was, was better than the staff. We ordered Gobi Manchurian appetizer mild and got it very hot. Ordered lamb chops medium; got them well, burned, dry. Ordered naan (brought to table well after the meal) well done/crispy, got it barely done . Asked for lemon; got lime. Waitress was checking nothing and just relying on the kitchen staff to bring out whatever. Blind leading the blind! They didn't make any money this night bc they had to remake the chops and the naan. Further, that day they only had regular soft drinks so diet soda was not available. Seriously? Drank water! They are making ridiculous additions in an effort to pump up business but getting the opposite results. They've added a Hooka Lounge area (what??) and that day had just added a Tiki Bar in the back - I saw music instruments next to it so assume they'll be playing music while you eat. It's sad that one our favorite places in the Tampa Bay area has turned into a place we will not return to. They cannot possibly stay in business for long. I live close by and love getting their great food to go. But when you read their menu online it is rather confusing as there are three different listings. I chose an eggplant dish, ordered it as I sat at the bar having a glass of wine. 20 minutes later, I was informed that it was not available. So I replaced it with another vegetarian option that I would not order again. I've had better experiences there but I think they were having an off night. The butter chicken, the samosas, pekoras, tandoori dishes are all stellar. I wish they had a really spicy chutney but also enjoy the raita with their garlic Naan. I've been going to this restaurant for several years. I was concerned about the new name/owners, but I shouldn't have been. Not only was the staff very pleasant, the service was also very good. We were not rushed and enjoyed the meal. I also overheard that it is still the same chef. The potato simosas are flavorful. We ordered the chicken saagwala and Chettinad chicken (both Indian hot). The Chettinad had a great spice and heat level. The saag, while very flavorful, was not particularly spicy. They no longer have onion kulcha on the menu, but the chef made us some. When choosing a spice level, be aware that "hot" is actually pretty spicy so I would recommend medium or less for most people. If ordering entrees, expect to spend at least $30 for two people. Ordered online and picked up food. It was on time and the person at the desk was prompt to help me. I ordered the tikka masala and my wife got the butter chicken with naan. I was extremely disappointed with the tikka masala. I have had my fair share of tikka masala and this was definitely not my favorite. The color was a bright orange. The tikka masala i typically get has a rich red color. The flavor was lacking and the sauce was too thin. Additionally we ordered it in medium but it was a very weak medium. More of a mild. Even the smell of the tikka masala seemed different/off. The butter chicken my wife got was a little better and what I would expect from a butter chicken. But again, as said above, the spice level was not correct. I don't know if there is a new chef or something but I don't think we will be going back. Pretty disappointed. Many in which you can't find as a vegan version elsewhere. I tried their classic samosa, dal tadka tribune, and day for the onion kulcha which were all delicious and perfectly seasoned. The staff were friendly, they were helpful, they actually read the reviews of some of the customers that expressed that they were rude. The food was really good, it was hot, and fresh. The atmosphere is pretty relaxing and there's a bar so you can have a drink if you are ordering your food to go. Disappointing experience. Rubbish in the biriyani. I wish I could rate this place lower than one star. My experience at Deccan Spice/ Sacred Spice was a complete disaster. We ordered a biryani, expecting a flavorful dish, but what we got was far from it. The food tasted terrible, like it had been sitting out for hours. To make matters worse, as we were eating, we discovered a piece of rubber glove in the biryani! Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. This is a serious health hazard and shows a lack of hygiene in their kitchen. I should have listened to my friends' warnings. Many of them had told me about their own bad experiences at Sacred Spice/Deccan Spice, but I thought I might be able to enjoy the food despite their warnings. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The quality of the food and the hygiene standards at this restaurant are severely lacking. Save yourself the disappointment and avoid this place at all costs. Review of take out. My friend probably eats here about once a week. That means when I visit we usually get take out from here for dinner. We've done it about four times now so I feel like I can safely comment on quality of the food. It's always the same order, two orders of Palak Paneer, one Chana Masala, naan, and garlic naan. If you are vacillating between the naan and the garlic naan, go for the garlic naan. To me, it is vastly better. They do not skimp on that garlic and it really adds the flavor. The Palak Paneer has a generous helping of cheese. The paneer is my favorite part and they gave you a huge heaping of it. Also, it is very thick, which I enjoy. Both the Palak Paneer and the Chana Masala are spicy! Even if you ask for it baseline mild (no spice at all please!) it still has a kick. The Chana Masala is usually spicier than the Palak Paneer. However, to my spice phobic taste buds, I would prefer both with less spice, but it won't stop me from eating here. Maybe they are slowly killing my taste buds and I'll eventually find it not spicy.
