I pretty much loved everything about playing up at Saddlebrook. The course is meticulously maintained. It is a little challenging (truth be told, if I am getting more than a handful of pars on a course--which I did-- it's probably not going to be compared to Augusta or Pinehurst No 2.). in a quest to understand just how challenging it is at Saddlebrook, I looked up its *slope (*slope is a rating given to a course based on how hard it is). Saddlebrook comes in at a 127--which, as it happens, is exactly the same score that Randolph North gets. (Not too hard, but neither is it a, "cakewalk") So, we have established that the course is probably but not that hard. But, you know what? As a golfer with a 15 handicap, is it so wrong to want to play somewhere that you don't have to drive home, "white-knuckling" the steering wheel, while dropping silent f-bombs about how stupid golf is, and wondering how much you could get for your clubs? The staff there was very accommodating and professional. I kinda like how they get on the loud speaker and call your group to the first tee just before your tee time. It reminded me of how they do it at Augusta! Let me tell you, the round of cheers that the other warming-up golfers gave me, when my name was called-out, sent chills down my spine. (Ha. I'm kidding....there were no cheers.) But in my head, I imagined stepping up the first tee with the crowd behind me on a mid-afternoon final round grouping at Pinehurst. With my golf-groupies' left boobs, freshly autographed, a hush would come over the fans standing near. Then, in the pregnant silence, a steely determined look would come to my face. (Oh geesh, my family always reminds me that I get off topic, both, in conversations, and when I do yelp reviews. My bad) So, anyhow... For anybody who has seen the backside of the Catalina's...you know that the scenery up there is quite lovely. Other things of beauty that were seen this day (*in addition to the celestial arch of my ball after I cracked a 7-iron directly at the pin from 160 out on hole after hole), included a beautiful waterfall that cascades and gurgles near the 9th hole; there is not a speck of trash to be found anywhere on the course; and the tee boxes, fairways, and putting surfaces look like they are being maintained by Japanese Bonsai-tree masters. I should also point out that the weather was about 8 degrees cooler (only 83 degrees) than it was in Tucson on this day. A storm rolled past as we played the font nine, cooling off the area even more, so it felt like we were playing on a perfect Spring day. I am the only one of my friends who is retired so far, so I sometimes will go and play a round by myself. When I played, "the Saddle", I did one of these, "solo runs" on a lazy Thursday afternoon in lat-mid-September. The guy that I was matched-up with lives on the course, and he informed me that the place is much-improved when compared to how he found it when he first moved to the area, about 5 years ago. Rumors of how Saddlebrook was kinda crappy golf (*and the fact that it is a bit of a drive from where I live), had kept me from "saddling up" (That's my just-invented term for playing up here) in the past, but boy, am I glad that I did. As you can probably guess from my review, I am definitely going to be "Saddling Up!" again. So in conclusion, any caballeros or chica vaquero's out there reading this, who might not yet have "Saddled-up"(or if you have, but its been a few years), you should give it a go. read more

With very well maintained surfaces (tee boxes, fairways and greens), good views, nicely contoured fairways, some reasonably challenging bunkers and other hazards, Saddlebrook Ranch provides a very good experience. Throw in some tasty hot dogs at Ed's Dogs between the 9th and 10th holes; and a very friendly staff and you've got a winner. My brother and I agree that it's a course we will play again. The golf course is very boring. I would suggest playing the Saddlebrooke Preserve or Mountain View which are in better condition, have much better mountain views and more interesting holes to play. read more

We recently discovered this golf course because they are close to home and fairly nice. We've played here 6-8 times. Today, a worker stopped by as we pulled up to chip and told me my skirt was too short and the dress code states that women's skirts are to be mid-thigh or longer. And that I could go ahead and golf today but in the future...And he said, "I don't make the rules." WTH? I have worn these same types of skirts all other times playing and nobody has ever said anything. And I go inside to check in with my husband ever time. Too bad...we won't be coming back. read more

I want to make others aware at how poor the staff is here, and how they enjoy trying to tell the younger crowds what they should do, but not tell the older crowds the same. My parents live here in Saddlebrook Ranch, so when I visit, I like to go hit a few balls at their driving range and/or play a round of golf. I have been specifically seeker out and talked to on four different occasions about my dress code. Once for not wearing a collared shirt, once for not wearing a collared shirt underneath my collared sweater, once for wearing two short of shorts, and another time when my nephews came out and we were wearing jeans. I have never seen them talk to the numerous amounts of old folks who are also not wearing collared shirts underneath their jackets, nor the numerous amounts of old folks wearing straight up sweat pants, as if they just woke up. This is getting pretty ridiculous. I have to keep reminding myself that this is common culture in retirement neighborhoods...old folk trying to tell young folk what to do when they did nothing wrong...but I also have to remind myself that this is a public course! Also, nowhere in their website does it state any specific golf attire. All it states is to wear "appropriate golf attire". The one time I didn't wear a collared shirt, I was unaware that it was needed, as I've been to many public courses that have never required a collared shirt. When I was asked to wear one next time, I figured since I saw older folk wearing a t-shirt underneath their collared jacket, that I could do the same, but apparently I got reprimanded for that too. I'm not upset at the golf attire required at this course, but more so upset at the fact that those working here (who seem to be residents of Saddlebrook Ranch) continue to single me out for things other older golfers are doing. We get it, you don't like young people, or maybe you do, but your actions show differently... I'm giving this course a 1-star for the fact that they don't treat all golfers the same, and seem to single out younger folk to try to nitpick things that don't matter. I wouldn't have an issue if they specified on their website the actual attire required, but they don't, so it's just straight up singling younger people out, especially when older golfers come in much worse attire than I ever have. read more

Nice and will be nicer once all facilities are built. Visited to get some golf in with my father-in-law. Windy day, but was cool. Nice course. They have some more facilities and building planned from what I'm told. Will be even better, then. And I hear that this is a sister course to the other Robson courses in Tucson. read more
