The one I bought today had: rice, imitation crab, fish cake, carrot, pickled radish, cucumber, and scrambled egg. Sometimes they have beef. It's such a good portion for $8.00 and nicely made. It's so fresh and you get that delicious savory taste from the sesame oil. But watch out cause they sell out :) I've been coming here for the past 25 years, ever since I was a little kid. It's an awesome mom-and-pop type of shop for your Korean grocery needs. Very chill area. The store might seem small but they got everything you need to make your own KBBQ night :) Banchan, kimchi, noodles to make japchae. You don't need to travel to the OC cause they are stocked with what you might need. My heart usually goes into arrest mode eating out these days. And Korean food has never been known to be low cost, ever, in my eyes. So, it wasn't until the other day, that I realized I could fulfill my Korean dream meal another way, a homemade meal. Of course, it helped that my daughter had already announced that she was making bbq beef, Korean style, and that we were invited over. That got my salivary glands going. What could I bring? This mom and pop market popped up on Yelp as being nearby, and happened to be a place I had driven by and ignored for too many years. They cater to Korean tastes and appeared to have exactly what I needed, unlike another, oversized Chinese-based grocery nearby where I manage to get lost, confused, and lose all focus, while trying to communicate with hand gestures to elusive store personnel. Usually its comic and I am a complete failure. I was totally unprepared for this, but I think I fell in love with Saet Byul the minute I stepped inside. The lovely lady at the cash register (owner?) spoke impeccable English and was so friendly and informative. There was limited but fresh, quality produce, items that are traditionally used in this type of cuisine. There were multiple, large freezers that lined the walls, full of ready-made appetizers, ready-to-eat frozen soups, and ready-to-cook, thinly sliced meats. Shelves upon shelves of exotic Asian sauces and so many other canned, dry, and preserved ingredients. The more I wandered, the greater my excitement. Towards the back of the tiny store was a small kitchen setup where another woman was busily working. On what, I can only guess, but she might have been assembing more packages of the freshly rolled kimbap (the healthy, Korean version of sushi) that were sitting on the cashier's counter. In one refrigerator cabinet was a wonderful variety of ready-to-eat banchan, each carefully labeled and dated. The banchan was exactly what I was looking for! I chose a container each of freshly made seaweed salad, pickled radish, kimchi, pickled cucumbers, snatched a tub of green tea ice cream, and a bag of super fresh bean sprouts that would eventually be anointed with toasted sesame oil. Then tossed a tray of kimbap in my cart (Imagine getting two full rolls,18 fat pieces, for a mere $7), plus a bag of shrimp crackers for good measure. Oh, and don't forget a large bag of toasted, seasoned seaweed sheets for snacking. The banchan was outstanding, but don't take my opinion as gospel. This came from my son-in-law who usually turns up his nose to such "time-wasters" as vegetables, especially things that look spicy. The pickle cucumbers and pickled radish coins were particularly addictive, but all were so wonderful. I am thrilled over this discovery. The only shortcoming, but not really, is the lack of a butchery section and fresh seafood. For that, the big markets are still the place to go. For the rest of the necessities, this is a real gem. read more

She had just brought out some freshly made Bibimbap. I purchased a set to bring back and loved the simplicity of it. The fresh and crunchy veggies inside were a delight. Saet Byul Asian Market is located behind Joe's Sushi on Van Buren and Magnolia, near Sonic. They have a variety of ready-made banchan dishes and even sliced meats. They also have a variety of seaweed and ramen noodles. Overall, I found what I needed - plus a few more items. I know I'll be back again. I'm happy that my coworker told me about this place and that I won't have to drive all the way to Irvine's H Mart for ingredients. read more

Do not let the outside fool you this place is legit. They are a small mom and pop shop with a small curated collection of goods. They carry most of the Korean or Asian Food staples as some of the larger competitors. They also have the best in house made sides. I go for my chili needs and for the cucumber kimchi. The service is great and they are also so nice here. Support your local businesses because they are seriously amazing. They have great meats as well if you want something prepared. It's a must for any Korean staples or for your Korean BBQ night at home. It's a hidden local gem for sure. Be aware card payments are 10 and up so if you are using card just keep that in mind. I never come with bags because I always go in with a list of one or two items but always leave with my hands full LOL, cashier always offers me a nice large box to bring my goodies home. Came in one hour after they opened. Fresh KimBap just came out. Grab 3 right away. Shopped for Jjangmeon, topokki and pastes. I will try their fresh kimchi radish and kimchi cucumber. The store has a variety of mostly Korean and Asian must haves. Today is Friday and maybe they will be stocking up soon since there is only one of the one I want to get. Fresh meat products ? This tiny store is a gem in Riverside where there are few places to grab essential Korean staples. They have fresh veggies (bean sprouts, cucumber, green onion, squash), seasonings (sesame oil, gochugaru, doenjang, kewpie mayo), and all variety of frozen/instant products (frozen bungeobbang, mandu, maxim instant coffee). I also have to mention their store-made products, fresh kimbap, marinated galbi and banchan. The galbi is good quality, has a well balanced marinade and is packaged extremely neatly, with extra wrap to prevent leakage. The back parking lot is small but never too full. My wife came home from work one day extra happy. I asked her how her day was and she responded, "I had kimbap for lunch! " I knew she didn't pack that for lunch so she proceeded to tell me that on her lunch break, she found a Korean market that sold kimbap. Every now and again, I get Korean cravings too (not as much as frequently as my wife though because she's into BTS) so my wife took me and her mom on a Saturday. Hidden in the same parking lot as Joe's Sushi, Saet Byul Asian Market is a very humble mom and pop shop that has Asian essentials such as ramen, noodles, dumplings, nori, soy sauce, mochi and Korean goodies like banchan and kimbap. There were only about three aisles and a small section with fresh vegetables. The rest were refrigerators carrying meats, noodles, drinks, banchan, desserts, and Hawaii goods (like manapua, Portuguese sausage, poi, and Lau Lau). The prices were decent and my mother-in-law made a comment that it's better to have this Asian mart than to have no Asian produce in the area. There are many dry seasonings, paste, and noodles to choose from. When I went, there was enough korean veggie staples availible. However, there was not much of a meat selection but that's probably because they are a small business, so I was understanding- just be sure to call beforehand if you're looking for something in particular. I def recommend the kimbap, if you're lucky there will be some by the cash register for sale. it's priced well and tastes great. I've had this bookmarked for a while ever since I saw that they have kimbap. There aren't many Korean places in the area and I was happy to find there is a market nearby. I stopped by here on my way home from work today. Parking and entrance is in the back of the building. It is directly next door to a sushi place! Sadly, I did not see any kimbap but I did pick up some cucumber kim chee and fish cakes to try, as well as some frozen rice cakes and soup. I've been coming here for years. It's a little market with parking behind. Highlights are freshly made gimbap and japchae although depends on the day. Your only stop if you want to make kbbq at home. Bought my burners from here too. Oh and they sell those bowls that you can make steamed egg in. I come here to pick up food for dinners and they always have the best assortment of items to choose from. My personal favorite is the thinly sliced brisket, which is pretty hard to find these days at other places.
