My wife and I are both professionals and have volunteered in public education in secondary schools for the past 15 years. We were lucky that for the first 3 years of our daughter's life, we could rely on grandparents for complete childcare. When going to work, our minds were at ease knowing she had excellent care and attention at home. The downside was that at 3 years old, our daughter did not have much opportunity to socialize with other children or stay with an adult other than her grandparents or parents. We were, of course, concerned that the transition to childcare or school might be disastrous. I cannot be more satisfied with our decision to enroll our daughter at the Kinderwood School, San Jose CA. We began with the summer school option, enrolling her in a half day program, 5 days a week when she was 3 years and a few months old. This was the perfect transition for a child who had no experience of staying with other adults outside of family. Her cognitive, social, and emotional progress was visible immediately. That Fall, we enrolled her in a full day program in the 3-year-old class.A year later, and we are still so happy with our experience. Our daughter will be enrolled in the 4-year-old program. While the curriculum and academic expectations are indeed rigorous, the staff is so incredibly loving, caring, and nurturing. The instruction is given in a way that engages the students through music and art. The children genuinely have fun while they learn and appreciate the structure and routine. We are always impressed with the work our daughter brings home. She is only 4 and can print her name, blend letters to phonetically read and write 3-4 letter words, add and subtract numbers, and so much more. Her experience is not unique as most if not all the students in her class can do the same.On top of this, every staff member from the administration, secretarial staff and teachers are excellent. I feel as though I am leaving my child with family. This is an incredibly important feature to me as I need to feel as though I am leaving my daughter in loving and capable hands when I drop her off to go to work. We have bonded with a number of parents from her class and get together for the kid's birthday parties and other social events like Petting animals, field trips etc.I cannot imagine a better place for our child. read more

Been calling this place for days, no one an answer anytime of the day or any days for about a week (not even a calls back). Finally someone answer today 1/24/2022 sounded rude as hella. Good thing my is Kid is not there. What happen when your kid at certain place and try to call and call them but no respond. Now I'm glad that my kids isn't going there. BEWARE OF TRUSTING THIS PLACE WITH YOUR CHILDREN!!!!! 1. The front desk personnel are not friendly, nor are they professional. 2. The "teachers" single CHILDREN out. 3. When I came to pick up a family member, I heard the children getting yelled at. The front desk lady heard as well, yet nobody did anything about it. 4. I received a letter from the front desk stating that the establishment received two violations. It sounds like they got violated for neglect and because a child got repeatedly bitten...it stated that they had no bite policy, because "kids bite and are teething." Therefore after receiving a violation, they came up with a bite policy. On another note, I thought that the letter they gave me explaining their violations from CDSS were very rude, condescending, and very much targeting a child and the child's parent(s). For example, the letter explained the violations received, then went on a tangent explaining how the parent was uncooperative and not ok with their child being bitten ( which I wouldn't be OK with either). It then went on to discuss how the child was kicked out of the daycare for being bitten and for the parent(s) advocating for his/her/their child! It seems like this establishment does not take responsibility for their own actions. I will soon be asking a family member to pull their child out ( definitely won't list the family members name before they target this child as well... but want others to be aware of this place). This is really sad that an establishment can do this kind of stuff. read more

Kinderwood has not refunded our $100 deposit after we decided not to attend (the deposit was listed as refundable on their website). Apparently, there is a new owners they aren't able to return our money? How does that make any sense? They are not honoring their words but was very rude when I called to ask about it. Barely reply to my email and when they finally did, they told me to go contact the old owner but never provide any contacts. This is ridiculous!!! I would not put my child in this daycare since the staffs were disrespectful and rude. How hard is it to refund the deposit? New owner or not, they need to honor it. Imagine how many families are losing their deposit as well. read more

Terrible place. I put in a deposit to be added to the wait list. The deposit was supposed to be refundable. After several months waiting I finally decided to enroll my daughter at another center. I went to this center multiple times to request my deposit and never got it back. I first talked to their very rude secretary at the front desk who told me that I would get it in the mail within a week and this never happened. Went there a second time and then the same secretary told me that there had been an ownership change and that she needed to talk to the new owners about my deposit. Nothing happened after this conversation. I emailed the director of the center at the time Cheyenne who emailed me back after 2 weeks from my original email and who advised me that she would mail my deposit and this never happened. The few times I went into the reception area of this place there were always kids crying out loud. The smell of poop was very strong even in the reception area and the staff were very rude. read more

As a licensed mental health professional and as a mom it would be my recommendation for patents to really think twice before sending your child to this organization that says that are committed to the care of your Child. The condescension I have seen towards young children is completely shocking and borderline abusive. The tendency of the 'upper management- owner' to be intimidating towards parents and the children was routine and embedded into the culture of this school (my kids went to this daycare and I had to remove them due to the terrible treatment). They even went out of their way to 'diagnose' my son when it is totally outside of their scope of practice and competence. What I heard was- 'we think he has this this and that'. Are you kidding me?! You are talking to a mental health professional and more importantly a mother who is trusting your org to provide appropriate care for her child! My son is in his 2nd year at a Kinderwood. We love the staff/teachers and fellow parents as well. The center hours works with our schedule and we don't have to think about meals since the meals are lovingly prepared there. The teachers are very loving and have helped our son to grow and be ready for kinder. We love the activities that Ms Char plans and are sad to see her leaving this year. Kinderwood is THE BEST and I cannot say enough good things about our experience there. The drop-off and pickup process is quick and safe, the facilities and toys are always clean, but most importantly the staff TRULY cares about the kids. We've sent both of our kids to Kinderwood starting in the infant room, and our experience has been wonderful. My kid enrolled at Kinderwood when she was 10 months old. Ever since, she has been well taken care of. I still remember that when she started to walk at around 1 year old, she walked toward the teachers and gave them a big hug. My heart melted just to think of it. I definitely can feel the love from the teachers. My daughter learnt a lot and had great fun at room. My daughter Trisha attended Kinderwood since she was 4 months old until almost 5 years old now that she is going to start her bigger school ...! Nothing but gratitude to this daycare..! As a first time parent I still remember when I handed her over to Ms.Shahira in room no. 1 (who is still the favorite teacher of my daughter) and cried a lot..,! whole day i was worried how they are going to take care of my baby.... As a mother we think no Other person in the world can provide same care to children.... But no...! Experienced Care Giver sometime can be better than us. What I witnessed was Loving, caring, friendly and disciplined teachers..! Every transition to the next room was smooth.... Trisha was shy and less expressive of her needs for almost fist 3 years.. but teachers informed me time to time about it...and I knew it. That was a part of her development... I knew she is going to thrive ...after her 35 months she was opposite of Shy, talkative, smart and friendly child. She did get boo-boos as well 2-3 times....and for us that's okay.... If children are not going to get boo-boo then who...? As far as nothing major...that's a part of their growth. During preschool years (room4 and 5) it is lots of fun what Kinderwood is arranging to make every day of their life amazing and with Fun..! My husband and I are incredibly blessed to have found Kinderwood for our son Bryson! I was very sad to go back to work when he was 7 months old and we thought we had found a great daycare but our little guy would cry everyday and refused to eat and drink. I thought I would have to quit my job but luckily, we were able to start at Kinderwood and instantly Bryson took the the wonderful ladies in the infant room. Working with little children all day is HARD WORK and these ladies truly care. This is the most important part about finding quality child care. It's having someone you know will pick up your baby and hug them when they need love and be silly with them to see them laugh. We actually drive 30 extra minutes more each day just to keep our son in there care... that's how great this place is :) I do not usually write reviews, but I wanted to help other moms who need to find quality care. I was really interested in their preschool. But had to call 3 times to schedule a virtual tour. Finally when the tour was scheduled, I didn't receive call in time and I had to call back asking for the reason. They were about to send me few information in email which I asked in tour. However I still haven't received it post 4 days even after me following up. He had some anxiety issues at the beginning, and his room 2 teachers have always been patient and loving to help him transition. Several years ago, my nephew attended Kinderwood from infancy through pre-school. The social and academic skills he learned there helped him so much when he moved on to Kindergarten and grade school. When my own son came along, the decision to enroll him at Kinderwood was an easy one. He's in his second year there, and we look forward to the years to come. The staff and teachers are all amazing. They are friendly and patient with the children and parents alike. They show genuine care and love for the kids, and do a great job keeping them busy with activities, learning songs and lessons, making crafts, and playing together. We have been at Kinderwood since June 2017. I can't begin to speak about how happy I am. I come from a Montessori teaching background, and while this school does not practice that philosophy, it does hold great weight in teaching children about feelings, how to talk about them, and appropriate actions. Yes your child will learn their letters, and colors, and numbers, and all sorts of other amazing things, but most importantly the fundamentals of being a good person are introduced here. I have two children at the school, one in room 4, the other in room 2, and with each obstacle those ages bring, I have found nothing but compassion and caring from the staff. What makes this school special is it's a community. The tenured teachers and directors that work here are an extension of your family. Our time so far has not been without difficulties, but the staff have been so open and receptive, I know my voice is heard, and that they are looking out for my children. A special shout out to Ms. Char and Ms. Lee, who continue to hold the staff to high expectations and a shout out to the teachers who meet those expectations every day. Thank you read more

Our son Connor has been in Kinderwood since August 2011. He's in his fourth "room" having had loving attention from Ms. Shahira as an infant, Ms Jackie, Ms. Janal and Ms. Dana as a toddler and now with Ms Valerie at 3.5 years. Char and Lee do their very best to keep the school running smoothly and they have always had time for me when I have had questions or concerns. Overall we've been really happy here. The missing star is for three reasons: 1)When the classes get full, or when they have too many boys in them, things can get kind of wild. My son was in the class with the girl who got her face scratched 10 months ago (see below) and that was a scary time. The administrative staff worked really hard to resolve the issues and tell all of us what was going on, but I was concerned that the class size and gender balance just had the teachers on the ropes. It resolved, but they spent months before trying to make things work as is. Personally, I would have asked some of the more aggressive children to leave earlier, but I'm not in the room. So that wasn't my call to make. It's important to note that 10 months later many of the same children are still together and getting along well now. So the issue has completely resolved. 2) I wish that the older room teachers paid a little more attention during potty time. Our son recently potty trained and when he moved up to a room without diapers his teachers were taking him at his word that he had wiped. I washed a lot of poopy underwear this summer. 3) when the kids move up rooms, I am never told what the new curriculum is. I'd love to do crafts or read books that mirror the work they are doing each week, but I have to find out about it after the fact. A monthly list of the weekly modules ( both behavioral and learning) would make this working mom a better support for his learning and growth. Overall, if you live in the neighborhood this family owned and operated daycare gives quality care in a good facility. They do love my son and that is what keeps us coming back. read more

This review is long overdue. My girl started at Kinderwood at around 8 months old, and since day 1 we couldn't have wished for a better daycare! As my daughter has grown she has moved from the infant room to the one-year-old room and is now in the 2-3 year old room. When she first started, the teachers and the support staff at Kinderwood helped to ensure that her transition to daycare was as easy and painless as possible for myself and my daughter. Since then, she and I have grown to deeply love and appreciate all the staff at Kinderwood, especially her teachers, who have helped her become a confident and happy kid who loves 'school' and is doing amazingly with her ABCs, counting, singing, and much more. My child has been going to Kinderwood for over one year now, originally starting in the infant room. This actually will be a short review, which is a good sign as I feel things are going smoothly and I'm comfortable with Kinderwood. Here's what I love: Ms. Shahira really is the baby whisperer. She's magical. My child loves her and it's so cute to see their interactions. This provided me with great comfort as my husband, child, and I made the transition to daycare. I mention Ms. Shahira first, however all of my child's teachers including: Ms. Julia, Ms. Jessi, Ms. Jennal, Ms. Maria, and Ms. Carrie are wonderful. As the director, Ms. Char is excellent. I trust her judgement and feel we are working together in partnership. Playtime at Kinderwood is plentiful. It is very important to me to keep my child moving and doing, and therefore learning through action. For the other kids in my child's class, it's fun to watch them grow up. I can see they enjoy each other. It is important to me for my child to be well socialized and I feel this goal is being accomplished. I feel my child is growing up loved and supported not only from his family and extended family, but by his Kinderwood community as well. read more

I thought long and hard before writing this review and I think today I decided to share my experience about how my 2.5 year old son was treated by the management staff (especially the owner/director of this so called child care center. They made me feel inadequate as a parent by sharing feedback about my son in the most insensitive of ways. I understand that feedback is important but the methodology needs major finessing. Making a parent feel like your child is defective is not the way to go about it. I decided to leave this feedback at this time because of the daycare staff we deal with now for our son are strength based and supportive. This is how you do it, not make a parent feel a constant sense of dread and anxiety about drop off and pick up of your child. read more

He gets nervous around new people but LOVES his teachers at Kinderwood. Sometimes he seems like he doesn't want to leave. From what I can tell he is well taken care of and is having a blast! A while back when my daughter was attending this day care, she had received a diaper rash in their care. Very heartbreaking to know that she wasn't properly taken care of. For the price I have paid, I wasn't too happy about this. I felt like they have just let her sit there for a long period of time. If this was the case, I wouldn't have gone back to work and stayed home with her instead. She was 7 months old at the time. read more

We are so thankful that Kinderwood is safely open during the Covid pandemic. We love our school, it feels great to be apart of this loving community that has been thriving since 1980. It's a toddlers job is to socialize, learn, and play outside. Thankfully our child can participate in pre-school/daycare at Kinderwood while we work from home during Covid. The facility is set up so each age group is in their own class, and has their own playground. Daily temp checks, increased hand washing, more thorough cleaning protocols and teachers wearing masks, all makes us feel confident to keep our child enrolled. They don't mix the small classes or teachers. I attribute my child's health, happiness, and wellbeing to being apart of this great school community during these uncertain times. If I can give no stars I would. I've always heard nothing but good things about this daycare. This is my First child his cousin in in this daycare too so I thought it would be great for him. the management sucks their so unprofessional they inform you of things through text. I have complained numerous times in regards of how they take care of my son. He is 7 months he has been coming here since he was 2 months and he has been sick back to back to back since I've put him here. I understand the first year it build their immune system but this is ridiculous my son is literally sick every 2 weeks. They have NO protocol for sick kids. I'd take him in and the whole staff and kids have a cough or runny nose. They have no precaution. Their staff is so unprofessional. The only one that actually took care of my son was Ms. Shahira. She was great she truly treated my son like her own. the other staff in room one was horrible. They literally go to work in slippers. They look overwhelmed every time Id pick him up. I had to constantly tell them how to do their job and how to take care of a child. They change staff within the daycare which they should NOT especially because of Covid. so they rotate their staff bringing germs to the baby room. They don't change their clothes when their wet. making His chest wet which is prone for them being sick. I'd pick him up and his socks would NEVER be on. He fell and they left an Incident report and the report made NO sense stating he was lying dwn and fell and bumped his head ?! I feel like they hire literally just anybody. They have NO structure no learning plans nothing. Today was my sons last day there and I'm literally spending my evening in the ER. Because he caught bronchiris there. I know its from daycare because my nephew has it too. i would never recommend them to anybody I've complained to many times and nothing ever changed. read more

Unfortunately, we would have to disagree with other parents. When we went to check out the place, I loved how the kids were really happy and running around. But once I had my son enrolled and what I experience was not good at all, my son would come with his nose full of mucus. They would not whip his nose. One day it was so stuffed and dried that I had to clean it my self right there and than. He got bobo report twice with in one week. His cloths were always dirty. I also felt like the class was over booked. In hot days when I walked in to pick up my son I felt the facility and his class room was hot. read more

Went in for a tour, and I believe the lady who might've been the director, directed us to a teacher or someone else to do the tour. Shouldn't directors be the one's to give tours? Anyway, we really liked the character paintings on the walls. We toured rooms 2 & 3, and didn't see anything we really liked. Both rooms reeked of poop. The windows were shut and it was hot and humid in the room.. now imagine a hot stuffy room with the smell of poop. No thanks! In room 3, we stayed in the window a bit to see how the teaches interact with the kids.. one lady stayed at the desk, another placed a chair in the corner of the room and dropped legos as close to the wall as possible, then there was one teacher with a small group of kids working on color sorting. Overall, we weren't impressed with this center. We will look for care else where. read more

Horrible, Horrible, Front Office Staff is a nightmare to work with Leigh has always been a nasty person to deal with my son is now 10 and went there for about 2 years, I then decided to put my youngest there and had nothing but problems. I sent an email complaint and when I got to the center to pick up my daughter who is 2 she was sitting in the office on a chair as if she were being punished then Leigh walks up hands me her stuff and says due to my email this in no longer a working relationship. No notice no sit down to discuss what can better the situation, just a boot out the door. My daughter should not have been pulled out of class, she did nothing wrong. Teachers are great but are treated very poorly, kids are not treated by office staff with love and Genuine caring matter. read more

Our daughter started at Kinderwood in December at 11 months old when I went back to work. We selected Kinderwood for a few reasons, but mainly because of the warm welcome we received every time we went to visit as we were making our decision. We just had a gut feeling that it was the right place. Our daughter has been fearful of strangers since she was a newborn, and we were concerned that her transition to daycare would be very difficult on her. Much to our surprise, she acclimated very quickly and absolutely fell in love with her teachers and the staff. She has absolutely flourished at Kinderwood. She is happier, more social, and more open to meeting new people. Beyond all of this, Lee and Char have recently proven that Kinderwood is the perfect place for our daughter. She was recently hospitalized and diagnosed with a chronic disease, and was out of school for 6 weeks. I thought we would have to withdraw her, which in itself was heartbreaking because of how well she has done. But the Kinderwood family welcomed her back with open arms, even though she needs more care now. Lee and Char even went to Lucile Packard to her care team to be trained to take care of her. If this does not prove how much they love these kids, I don't know what would. Our daughter was able to start back this week, and we are thrilled that she is able to get back to "normal" after everything she's been through. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kinderwood and the staff. We are so lucky to have found them! read more

I have worked for Kinderwood Children's Center for 9 years. I have worked at many other schools and have never felt the love and harmony I feel here at Kinderwood. My co-workers are like my family. Ms. Lee and Ms. Char are always there for us, if it's a personal problem you can feel the love and compassion. If it's work related they will do their best to handle the situation. I plan to continue to work here at Kinderwood until the day I retire. I highly recommend Kinderwood Children's Center to anyone who is looking for good quality care we are the one. read more

The teacher commented on how well behaved, respectful, attentive and considerate he is. He's excelling in math and art (he has declared himself an "Artist")!
