They replaced my radiator, but didn't touch the spot where I said the coolant was originally leaking. Just fixed it myself. They didn't bother to reattach the plastic grill cover and under portion. Under part came off on the highway and I had to pull over. Took less than a minute to attach the grill cover. read more

The 5-star reviews on here are spot on; these guys are good at what they do, low-cost, and honest players taking a chance in an up-and-coming part of Detroit. I take both of my vehicles here for all of their routine maintenance. My only minor quibble is that it can be difficult to reach them in a timely manner. I have import vehicles, and I think they only have 1 technician (Nate) who does this side of the office (versus domestic cars), and he both works on the cars and returns calls/messages left on the import vehicles voicemail. It would be great if they could hire an admin person to run the office side of things, but if you can wait, these guys do excellent work! read more

I typically take my car to the dealer and was taking my car to Mack Garage for the first time so I did my research beforehand to know what to expect. I made an appointment and they received and started the work on time, they explained everything they'd do in simple terms at the beginning, and completed the service within the projected time. After the service, they explained what they did and saw again in simple, non-technical terms and the service charge came out on the lower end of the range I had researched. Eric and Nate are some of the most genuine people I've met. I was going through a job transition which required me to do a long distance trip to California. I brought my 2007 saab 9-3 in for a check and an oil change. They found an oil leak and a few other issues and they told me how long it would take to get the parts as well as the the estimated costs. I was on a time budget and they made sure to get me the parts as soon as possible as well as take care of my car so that I could start my road trip. When they finished, it was actually a little cheaper than what was estimated and I appreciate them for being so honest. I'm glad I went to them before my road trip. First off, I bought my current vehicle from Mack Garage (a 2003 Isuzu Rodeo with 80,000 miles in great condition). Paid $3500 for it. I would highly recommend their used car shopping service! 5 months late, the Isuzu is still running strong. Since purchasing my vehicle from them, it has been serviced twice. The first time I was on my way to school when I got a flat on Mack I did not have time to handle the matter at the time as I was on my way to my exam. Post my exam, I was able to take my key to them and they were able to recover my vehicle and service it. During this visit I paid about $20 for an oil change + $25 for vehicle recovery (guesstimate!). All of this was completed in about 3 hours. The second time it was serviced I paid to get all new tires put on it. Service took 6 hours and totaled $520 +$0 for a brake check. I know both of these men (Eric and Nate) who run and work in the shop and they are men of integrity. As a woman it is important for me to trust the mechanics as I have been swindled too many times. These are men of God who have a heart for people in Detroit and love cars! The prices are affordable. They are transparent and honest. If they cannot service your car for any reason, they will refer you to another honest business place who can (e,g. I needed some body work done on the Isuzu Rodeo after it was hit and Eric told me that they could not do the work and referred me to Alter Collission in Grosse Pointe, they did an excellent job). I have a 2001 VW Beetle and have trusted them with everything from an oil change to some major repairs to keep my baby running, even with many miles on her! They are great at troubleshooting and pinpointing where the issue is, as well as prioritizing repairs when I've been unable to do everything at once due to budget constraints. I am always given a thorough explanation of what they've done and why - which is excellent as someone who is relatively unfamiliar with car repairs. The transparency in this place is amazing! It seems like with most auto shops people get treated like they're an idiot, but this is definitely not the case with Mack. I dropped my car off for my 8am appointment and John called me within an hour to explain what was wrong with it. They gave me an estimate and I told them to go ahead and do the work. When I picked my car up, they actually ended up charging me less because it didn't take them as long as they thought. Never have I seen a shop do anything like this before. The sway-bar was broken on both sides, and now the car drives much better than it had. These guys are amazing at what they do and are friendly, easy-going, and are an all-around great group. This garage is absolutely amazing. I work crazy hours, and so I had to have my car towed there after hours (I'd never been there - I recently moved to Detroit). They gave me clear instructions on what had to happen when it was dropped, and called me in the morning to ask what the issues were (it was loud and shook when I turned it on). They work mostly by appointment, but try to help out people in emergencies or unexpected car trouble like mine. They called me back three hours later, and told me the issue was I had had a catalytic converter stolen overnight. They recommended a shop that would be able to do it cheaper, but I would have had to have it towed there which they said they would help facilitate. I decided to have them do it, because their quote wasn't too much higher and I couldn't afford to pay for towing. They came in under their quote! I was able to pay over the phone, and pick my car up in five minutes. I spend no more than five minutes in the shop, but their service and willingness to work with me was exceptional. If I ever have car trouble again, or just need a check-up, I will bring my car here. read more

15K miles after Mack Garage installed a new timing belt on my Honda Odyssey, I heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. I called on a Monday and they took me right away. After a few minutes they diagnosed that the tensioner had gone bad. They replaced the tensioner under warranty and I had my car running well by the afternoon. I found this shop on yelp and decided to try it out based on the reviews. I went to have my spark plugs, oil changed, and tires rotated. Nate helped me when I got there; I pointed out what I wanted done and we talked about other problems I was having with my truck. After I left he called me back with a quote for the service before he did anything. Overall it was a cool little shop and I'll be keeping them in mind for my next service. The guys that own it were really down to earth and transparent about all the pricing. At no point was I ever pressured into extra services and I really respect that in a shop. I'm so lucky to have found these guys! My Prius wouldn't start one morning. When I called a tow truck for a jump it would start when jumped, but would lose all power as soon as it was disconnected from the truck's battery. I had it towed to Mack, and they took good care of me. They remembered me from an oil change months before, and figured out that a big pothole had dislodged a connection from the starter battery to the big battery (a Prius is a hybrid with a complex design that I do not pretend to understand). They reconnected the batteries, charged everything back up, and charged me $45!!! They also made sure that the tow truck driver didn't charge me too much for his services. WDET or Classical music played while I was there. Honest , knowledgeable mechanics. I've really appreciated the transparency and integrity of Mack Garage the last two times I've had my car serviced at the shop. The guys are knowledgeable and attentive to detail which is something I really appreciated this last time I took my car in. I was only getting my oil changed and Nate finished the job very quickly and even checked all the other fluids for the car. He then noticed that Bell Tire had rotated my directional tires incorrectly and quickly fixed the problem while informing me of how to check for this problem to make sure my tires are rotated correctly the next time I decide to let Bell Tire do the job. While checking the rest of the car under the hood, he also let me know of parts that need to be replaced the next oil change in order to keep my car maintained and healthy. I really appreciated the attention to detail and the proactive approach to inform me of the condition of my car. I highly recommend Mack Garage. Detroit roads can be rough on vehicles, especially in Winter. I have been at another garage for more than 3 hours just for an engine diagnostic. At Mack, I was in and out in less than an hour, and without an appointment. In addition to my specific issue, they recommended an oil and filter change (it was time anyway), checked the tire pressure and topped up fluids as a part of the overall service.
