I was at the Deli counter when a stocky Deli Lady argued with me about a salad. I mentioned that staff there have been serving me this salad in a small container for the last 6 months. She said they should not do that and wanted their names. Please. When the throwout percentage in a grocery store is 38%, why the nick picking. They throwout more than that little bit we argued over. This has been my home grocery store for close to 20 years. The staff is friendly and helpful. Especially now that social distancing seems to be the new norm'. They kept the doors open and still offer to bag and help me out to the car. This particular Safeway is why we moved up the hill. Thank you for being our small town resource. read more

Hmmmm I've been coming here on the way to go hiking for years and I always get really nice service from all the employees. Granted I only go to get a sandwich or something from the deli but I've never had a bad experience here. Basically the easiest stop before hiking off hwy 88 or 50. This is the only grocery store I will go to in Cameron Park. The prices are great and the employees are very friendly. The lines can be long at certain times of the day, so try to avoid going around 5-6pm on weekdays. I prefer to go to the Starbucks in this Safeway over the drive thru store or the other Starbucks store in Cameron Park. This is one of the worst Safeways I have ever been in. It is DIRTY, Garbage was spilling out of the Garbage cans. Trash all over the front of the store. No carts there all out in the parking lot. Told if we wanted one to go out in the parking lot and get one. Im not sure who the Manager of this store is but he or she should be demoted and replaced. This Safeway needs improvement! I have been shopping here for years because it is close to home; but I'm finished! I came back twice recently to find that certain soft drink items have been sold out and not restocked (seltzer water and diet tonic water). Then I went over to the beer isle to find the same old tired selection. Various single bottles (22oz) were sold out, as usual. When it comes to checkout, usually only one or two check stands are open; so I can never be in a hurry. I have decided to shop at Fork Lift and Bel Air for quick items locally from here on out. This Store location is NOT open 24 hours. It's been several months and the sites aren't updated. I've called and told them to update their hours and their phone system hasn't been updated nor has yelp or google-none of them have the correct hours. The store is always low on baskets because they are always getting stolen (but not replaced) and they never have enough checkers. If I go late at night, I always have to find someone to check me out because no one can hear the bell they put on the checkout stand for people to ring when they need service or are ready to check out. Whatever happened to keeping an eye on the register? Whatever happened to great customer service? Whatever happened to paying attention to customer needs? I'm under 5 feet tall and often need help reaching things off the high shelf-and I'll have tall employees walk right past me and not ask if I need help. If I ask them, often times they will say they'll get help! As if they can't take 3 seconds And grab the item for me. So I'll wait 5 minutes or more for them to MAYBE send someone to help. The staff is horrible. I don't know if it is only the morning but everytime I have been here in the early morning they are just rude. Today I went in and one of the staff almost ran me down in the isle and didn't apologize when she almost knocked me over. I have been here before and had to wait at the register for over 5 minutes waiting to be helped. One of the men in the deli refused to make me a sandwich, the manager yelled and cussed at my dad, one of the cashiers talked back to my stepmother and the overall store was a mess. I've always loved Safeway - especially the store nearest to my home in El Dorado Hills, but this Cameron Park Safeway is absolutely horrible. I have come in this store three times...once to buy something, and two other times to get change for my shop. Whenever I stop by the customer service desk to get change, there is ALWAYS a 20+ minute wait...just for them to help one person in front of you. The employees will even look at you, and not say a word...it would be nice to hear a "thank you for your patience", "I'll be with you shortly", or even a "I'm so sorry for the wait". Anything that would simply remind me that they are there for the very reason of "customer service". While waiting in line, I assume the manager of the store (or at least someone that thinks they are) - some cocky fellow with no name-tag asks me what I am waiting for. I said "I am just waiting for change - there's always a wait..." Rather than apologizing for the delay in such a simple request, he says "oh...so you're mad you have to wait in line? You're mad you came in for change? What? You're mad I'm giving you change?" (keep in mind, the giant sign of CUSTOMER SERVICE) is hanging above his head. Sigh.. I visited Monday evening. Just a normal night. In the Check out line and their seemed to be some kind of mixup with a transaction, not mine. The Checker was trying to figure it out but needed a Supervisor's help. I believe her name was Anne. She started accusing this poor kid all while other customers were lining up including myself. Safeway has and has always had the worst produce in the grocery industry. There stuff is old and you are lucky if it lasts one or two days in your fridge. The charge some of the highest prices for below standard vegies and fruit. A few years ago I posted a review regarding the rude employees at the Cameron Park Safeway. Guess what? Three years later and they're still rude! I only go to this location about 4 times a month and the only reason I go there is because of the sales. There is one guy that works the cash register that just seems odd. He asked me 5 times, almost in a compulsive way, if I need help out with my groceries. How many times did I need to tell this guy NO before he understood??? Geez! Any time I'm in there I try to avoid his line. There is one man that works the register that must be new and he's about as unfriendly as they get. I have never seen him smile or come across friendly to anyone. ( I would post his name but don't know if that's allowed on this site) Doesn't this store care at all about customer service???? How hard is it to get people to work there with a decent attitude??? At least have a smile on your face instead of acting like you're eternally constipated. One time a couple weeks ago there was an older man working the cash register, he was so friendly and polite. When I got my receipt I had to look twice to make sure I was actually in Safeway. Also, watch out when you buy milk at Safeway. Be sure and check the expiration date!!! Last week I was in there and I was in a hurry. I bought four cartons of milk, all the cartons had been placed on the shelf whereas the expiration date was not visible - in other words, you'd have to turn the carton around to see it. Like I said, I was in a hurry, didn't check the dates and all four had expired 1-2 days prior to me buying them. Two were sour, two I could still use. I called Safeway and complained, they told me to come in and they would exchange it. I told them they should have been pulled off the shelf when they were expired. I don't like that at all. IMO, this location just goes from bad to worse. The exterior of this store always looks so dirty and sloppy. What is it with all the slobs that are always hanging out in the parking lot?? Although, you can't really blame Safeway for the weirdos that like to loiter in the parking lot, it is a big turn off. Makes me a bit nervous when I want to walk into the store. You never see that at Bel Air or any other grocery stores. Despite all the negativity, I'll probably still shop there from time to time for the sales. I also used to like Safeway when we moved here n went there quite frequently but then the manager changed to a unprofessional woman who when you complain to her about a clerks attitude she somewhat makes fun of what you say. The manager n the clerk who works the self check out should either be given classes in how to respect the customer or just removed from their job. This review is for the checkers. I've never seen checkers (all middle-aged women) move more slowly in my life. At the height of the lunch hour, there are no Express Lanes open so I find myself behind 2-3 customers with full carts. No baggers either, so after painfully watching the checkers slowly slide each item across the scanner, I have to wait for them to bag the groceries in excruciating slow motion. To add to that, this store has "chatty checkout," and the checker actually stops what she's doing to just listen. To the customer provide commentary on what he/she plans to do with his/her day. I spent my entire lunch break in line--ridiculous! Try BelAir across the street. This Safeway doesn't care about customer service. Three calls for more checkers were ignored. I sure hope the management of Safeway Cameron Park checks the yelp comments. I tried to locate a manager today but was unable to, in the time frame I had. I was witness to one of the worst displays of assault I have ever seen.. I was at the deli when i witnessed water flying in the kitchen and then your employee (Hope) throwing water at and calling another employee a "Retard" at the top of her lungs. I have not had a lot of dealings with Hope but I have with Reece.(the other employee) in fact Reece is one of the few reasons I go to the deli in Cameron Park. She is hard working and always greets me with a smile. There is never a reason to call people names and throw things at them. Hostile workplace for sure. assault yes! This store at one time used to be a great place but now the overall appearance of the front of the store I have seen cleaner outhouses at the fair.The inside of the store is nasty and their shopping carts look like a bumb just slept in them come on get it together and have a sense of pride in where you work. read more

I quit going to cameron park Safeway over a year ago cause the shelves were always empty never had any sales items in stock the bakery always looked torn and ripped apart donuts looked awful . Deli was a disaster not to mention every employee in the store was just rude so I started going to fork lifts which seemed like a better place to shop .. So just recently I went in to safeway cause forklifts didnt have what I needed much to my surprise Im glad I did. I was only gonna grab a few things I noticed the yogurt isle was full I grabbed my milk and I looked towards the bakery and Wow! It looked like deliciousness. I couldn't choose they had so many choices. I was greeted by a clerk. She helped me choose I went with a strawberry cake. She also offered to make me a cake. Again WOW !!! Went by deli couldn't believe how clean and full of product it had the staff was so friendly . I decided to do a bit more shopping since they had full shelves I went to meat dept and picked up some steaks I believed I ran into the manager and she was so friendly, and helpful I ended up with dinner dessert and some goodies .. Shane Dawson, this Saturday night Safeway employees, have been excellent. Extremely good awesome people work at this store. Unfortunately in the past at the beginning of the crisis good manager was fired because of the actions of a personal issue caused by 2 young men working as checking clerks who's behavior was rude, malicious,and prejudiced behavior towards my girlfriend and I. The young man responsible for double and triple charging for expensive items, was spared his job. This individual persisted behaving in an irritating manor, and is employed to this day. Since an angry review the result has been an environment of sadness and heavy hearted people working hard in an already difficult and underpaid job. I know from being employed by Safeway in the past the demanding and sometimes mind numbing work, with little reward except the opportunity for friendly comraderie and banter between employees and friendly guest customers. The front end manager who was fired because of a review is a good man and became a good friend. Generally this location was full of friendly helpful hardworking and generous people who live for and love their community. It was heartwarming to see the neighbors who have worked here since childhood. Sincerest apologies for a negative review. I was genuinely feeling concern for my friend who was experiencing the back pain from the cold and rain, and the pain of being rejected by Safeway employees from another location who said from the beginning, "Oh I am not letting them in the store.", to her companion guarding the door at the beginning of Covid. The interaction was such that no matter how hard we tried she would not allow my Asian American girlfriend into the store. We attempted to comply with her every order yet she wouldn't allow us in. They turned Marissa away even though I was willing to stay outside. The interaction was such that it caused a female customer leaving to say "Suck my d..." to me. And nearly caused an altercation with her boyfriend and I which would have been unfortunate for him. read more

This is our local store so I think we'll be switching to the Missouri Flats store moving forward. I stopped by today to do our usual weekly shopping and somebody had a dog-NOT a service animal- on a leash in the store. Now, I have no problems with service animals- I ride the El Dorado commuter with a woman who has one- but I do object to people bringing their dogs into stores, restaurants, etc. where pets are clearly not appropriate. I know you think your Cock-a-doodle or Shit-Pooh is just the cutest thing on earth and you are much too important to be separated while other people shop but here's a newsflash snowflake: you're not special. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs- in fact I have 400lbs. of them divided between 2 Mastiffs- one of whom is professionally obedience trained. I'm pretty sure the employees and my fellow shoppers would come unglued if I brought one of my 200lb. Mastiffs to the grocery store. I think I'm pretty special and I know my dogs are but I have enough common courtesy not to force my love of giant breed dogs on my fellow shoppers. Sadly the reverse is not true. Almost never have donuts ready by 6am. I come on Fridays to take advantage of the $5 Fridays. Great deal only if you can actually get some donuts. I have left empty handed about 5 times now and have to go over to Bel Air and pay more but at least they have all of their donuts out and ready for you. I love this Safeway! I've always thought the customer service has been great! I had to go in early this morning and not being much of a morning person I was pleasantly surprised by how many of their employees truly seem to be. A nice gentleman helped me find my way around the meat department and locate the Lunchables, and if it hadn't been for a friendly younger redheaded guy I never would have found the Taco seasoning. The woman that checked me out was very friendly and full of smiles and a good story...all in all I left feeling much happier than I felt when I walked in. And for the amount of items I bought (everything I needed to feed 4 people for our Taco Tuesday tradition, some cold medicine, and ingredients for school lunches for the rest of the week) I was happy to have a total of less than $50! My son always enjoys visiting this store as well. We can barely walk down an isle after school without bumping into one of his classmates and they're always thrilled to see each other. I've been frequenting this Safeway, as have many other members of my family, for a couple generations now and I'm certain the next generation will follow. :) Thank you Cameron Park Safeway! read more

The three tiered wedding cake for my daughter's June wedding was beautiful and extremely tasty. We had white cake with Bavarian cream on the bottom layer, red velvet & cream cheese on the middle layer and chocolate with fudge on the top layer. All were great, but we had a lot of the white cake left over so ate on it for a week. It stayed very moist and great flavor all week. And the price for the cake was about half of other bakeries. We had the florist add fresh flowers for the best look. I will definitely use Safeway again for our special cake needs. read more

The lines here are always unbelievable long. There are rarely any baggers. When there are baggers, half the time they leave items out of your bags. All expiration dates need to be checked before you purchase anything. Even items such as crackers or cereal are expired. I stopped going here because every time I did it was a horrible experience. I have to agree with Kat C. The early morning staff is awful. I stopped there periodically on my way to work at 4:30 AM to buy a sandwich. There were never any checkers working despite several Safeway employees sitting around the Starbuck's kiosk chit-chatting. I would just leave $4.00 sitting by the register to pay for a $3.49 sandwich. I told the group of employees what I was doing and they said OK. One morning I did the same thing and told the guy stacking oranges that I left $4.00 by the register and he got angry and said he couldn't ALLOW me to do that in a very condescending tone, he would call for a checker.
