I used to love this Safeway, the regular staff have and continue to be great. But poor management just don't seem to care anymore as the stocking of product seems horrible , the self checkout area is using the original 1990s machines that never work without at least one intervention, and amazingly there are no shopping carts at the doors or inside anywhere, yes you need to venture out into the unsafe parking lot to find a cart way away from the store and good luck getting one with all 4 wheels. The last dozen times I've at least once been approached INSIDE the store by transients and drugged out people for money. read more

Saturday 24.09.2022 Well I decided to try this Safeway early this morning at 05:35. I was the only customer in the store wearing a mask and was surprised how many people were shopping. I had one young man with a broken finger help me and we had a bit of small talk. Another young man stocking the aisles cussing like a drunken sailor was complaining about the manager and Albertson's. Even the cashier said she hates Albertson's and said they ruined this store. Many shelves are empty and the fruit and produce don't look as good as when Safeway ran this store. Was trying to find a cake and the bakery sucks. No good choices anymore and the quality of the baked goods just aren't very good. Safeway is no longer a good community grocery store and has become a corporate nightmare. read more

While I do not expect to be worshipped when ordering a sandwich I do expect to be acknowledged and my order taken within a reasonable period of time and not looked at and then have the old crone at the counter go down and help someone else 30 ft. away. Do I look funny or something? read more

Whether it's running 2 out of 12 check lines during peak shopping hours - or the clerk bagging your heaviest items on top of any vegetables and fruit - or the deli incapable of using focaccia bread despite advertising it - every step of the way at this location displays more incompetence than the last. read more

This place is ok. They have basically everything I need but more pricey. I'm just probably spoiled in Las Vegas where everything a little bit cheaper plus my store discount from Kroger store. Produce are clean and so many salads choices and so far all of them I tried are pretty good. Cashiers are very helpful and friendly that I must say. Sadly I've been to the deli many many times since I moved here from Las Vegas even there store sister Albertsons the deli workers are friendly and helpful. When they see anyone waiting Albertson's deli employees will tell you "Be right there with you in the moment". Yes I was spoiled back home. Safeway deli worker they are not friendly, made me wait for 10 minutes, while the workers walking back in forth right in front of me. Don't even ask if I need help, even if it's not your department at least ask and call someone to assist the customer. And when you ask for fresh fried chicken they tell you whatever they have out there. Now this is 4:30pm, this is when the fresh chicken should be coming out because if the rush hours where ppl getting off from work and heading to the store to pick up some dinner. My opinion sorry if I'm wrong but this deli department would cook fresh fried chicken and rotisserie for customers. But maybe I'm wrong how this Seaside CA Safeway run the deli department. I'll still shop here grocery wise but deli departments I'll pass. read more

William just took time out of his day to move two dozen frozen turkeys to get to my phone that I had absent mindedly dropped into a random compartment in the turkey freezer. Came here to get some stuff for grams chicken. They were out of like 3 ingredients which sucks because why can't they just get more for the shelf you can't tell me everybody bought all the chili crisp right before I walked in the stuffs been out for days. Each time I've been to this Safeway recently there have been dogs who are obviously not service dogs. They recently put a sign on the front door, but it is apparently not being enforced. This morning, there were two adorable puppies in a baby stroller. Service dogs are never allowed in shopping carts, chairs, or furniture. About two weeks ago two dogs got into a fight. There was also an unattended dog, sound asleep in the aisle of the produce section. I truly love dogs, but I also know that there are many people who are allergic and many people who are terrified from earlier experiences of being bitten. Bringing nonservice dogs into any place that sells food in California is completely illegal, for a reason. read more

Always a great selection of foods, beverages and supplies at a reasonable price. Club card always gives extras savings and rewards so it makes it worth it. Store is always clean. Employees are always helpful and polite. Outside has great lighting in the evening with ample parking. read more

This Safeway has drastically declined in quality of products and customer services. Since Albertson's acquisition and takeover many changes have occurred and definitely not for the better. I have had groceries items that I purchased from InstaCart delivery from Safeway that's expired. This occurred several times already. Also my last visit in person I noticed the store was short on staff. It's definitely disappointing that Safeway is no longer the terrific store it once was. read more

I love Safeway and do about 80% of my shopping here. I'm just not clear on the closing time. Some days I work 9AM- 2AM. Those days my time available to grocery shop is limited. A recent Sunday I got off at 1:40AM and rushed over to get limes for the next day at work. I arrived at 1:54, doors were locked and the Safeway employee inside made a hand motion that they were closed. So I'm guessing the hours that say Sun 5:00AM-2:00AM actually mean they want everyone out by 2AM and are really only open til around 1:50AM. read more

They do use Boars Head meat which is great but I think maybe my sandwich was in the cooler for several hours. California pricing for sure, but enjoyed it. It was an early weekend morning. The self checkout was blocked off and closed so everyone was forced to wait in the single open checkout lane. The customer in front of me had separated the items she wanted to buy into multiple transactions but the cashier mixed everything up and rung everything up in a single transaction. It turns out she has good reasons for separating the items: she wanted to pay for some items with an FSA card and that could only be used for health items; it cannot be used to pay for food. Since the cashier messed up, she had to get someone else to come void everything. Someone finally opened up another checkout lane. That cashier apologized for the wait, saying the other customer was being difficult. Actually, it was the cashier's fault for lumping everything in a single transaction when the customer had separated the items into multiple transactions, for good reason. In my opinion, these workers were rude and inefficient. Also, I clipped the coupon for the Saturday sampler but the coupon did not get applied at checkout. read more

The pack of Persian cucumbers were slimy and moldy too. Then the beautiful tomatoes on the vine were all bad...and I just discovered the perfectly nice looking avocado is also rotten. read more

One of the friendliest Safeways ever with great customer service. I came here to order a sandwich and there was a long line with about 4 people making sandwiches. perfect! The line went by so fast. There was 2 of us and instead of getting 2 regulars we decided to buy one large which is basically 2 regulars cut in half and it saves you $1. There's also a deal right now where if you buy a regular sandwich, you get a free pepsi drink to go with it. So we go to get our sandwich rung up and it turns out the free pepsi is only for the regular sized sandwich but the manager says it's fine and gives us the pepsi anyway! There was no complaining, no begging, she just gave it to us right off the bat and just let us know that she did it. Nice lady. Oh in case you were wondering, I ordered a "make your own" sandwich with Turkey and Parmesan Bread. Delicious! I also bought a doughnut and gave it to a friend and he told me that when he bit into it, there was a penny inside the doughnut.... weird stuff. Can I just say this? Who is their meat butcher? Stevie Wonder? Seriously, the last 2 Drive Up and Go orders I've done have resulted in the absolutely worst cuts of meat. I don't order cheap meat, I always opt for Prime cuts, however there is no Prime cuts when you have a staff of inexperienced untrained people butchering. In the old days you actually had to go to school to learn how to be a butcher, and you weren't hired to work in that dept. if you weren't certified. Apparently anyone can do it now. To pay $28 for 2 steaks, or $15 for Prime stew meat and have close to 1/2 a lb. of it be fat and grizzle is really horrible. I'll start buying my meat from professionals (P.G. I went today it was 9:30am. I went looking for Salmon that was not farmed. The young man behind the counter never saw me he was looking at something on his cell. His head was looking down as I stood there looking at the salmon in the case I must of stood the for about a minute. Nothing. Then I walked over to the bakery. There was a young man with a long beard and long hair wearing a baseball hat. He was putting items in bags I could hear the bags crunching. To be honest it gross me out to look at him thinking that some of his hair could be in the bakery item. Safeway is desperate need of cleaning up there act. They should bring back the secret shoppers. Nope Not good. Sandwich was all bread. Ordered a 12" BLT. Simple right. Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato. Barely anything of any one of those in this sandwich that ended up costing me $9.00 Subway piles this on AND they do not grab an arbitrary tissue and start blotting the bacon juice away. It is a BACON sandwich. Bacon. Juice and all we want that. It is not grease. Carmel Safeway is the best of the best. PERIOD. Especially the sandwich and deli and bakery and meat and...... Oh, and she was so so so so so s l o w. Had no idea what to put on it. Wrapped it pathetically. Then When the guy asked to cut it, she goes then they will be $6.99 a piece. WT. Never again. I received some ads about being able to pick up groceries ordered online, so I thought that it would be worth trying it out. The first time I went, the produce I received looked like it came from the bin that the produce people use to throw out old produce. The apples for example were covered in these strange scab like brown stuff, the fresh corn looked really dry, and the packaged organic lettuce looked past its prime. I did not realize this of course picking it up, so happily tipped the employee bringing it out to the car--though she did not understand why I was giving her cash and had to tell her it was for her service... The next experience was on a busier day, the picking area is not well-marked as to its purpose, so others were parked there and nothing was nearby. Its placed near one of the busiest areas of the parking lot, so tough to get in and out of the area, as well as find alternative parking. The wrong groceries were delivered to my car, which I found out after I pulled out of there and on my way home. When the clerk tried to give me groceries that had been in another customer's possession, which I saw her load from another car, to her cart, then to mine, I declined to take them home. After driving home-a 35 minute roundtrip, I called the manager, who was able to get me the order correctly, but it still entailed another trip back to the store. So I thought, ok I will try again. This time it seemed to be going well until I was approached by the employee to fill out a form which required handling a clipboard and pen that they had supplied--which defeats the "no contact" point of picking up groceries. I offered my license to get the bottle of alcohol, but apparently a signed form is required. So after completing that task, I offered the employee a tip for her efforts, and she declined to take it, speaking to me in a hostile tone about waiting until she was ready to accept the cash. I have never had anyone speak to me that way when trying to show some appreciation for their services. I think she may have not known what I was trying to do, but I decided not to spend anymore time on this episode. The location of the pickup location made it difficult to actually exit the parking space safely because of the large volume of traffic coming in from Canyon Del Rey and trying to get out. My additional efforts to contact the management about the situation have been ignored so I officially give up with this store. I have had great experiences at pick up situations at Whole Foods--the produce has always seem super fresh, the interaction with the employees bringing the groceries out to the car brief but cordial. Although I rarely shop at this location, I do come in to deposit checks at the Wells Fargo located here, as my business is in Sand City. I own a moving company here in town and had the distinct pleasure of moving a gentleman named Max. Max works at this Safeway, and each time I go in he and I find each other and exchange pleasantries. Max is an incredibly hard worker and is a joy to be in the presence of. He can usually be found gathering carts in the parking lot, or helping customers with their groceries. Max is an absolute asset to Safeway and to the Monterey community as a whole! Keep up the great work my friend!!! read more

This Safeway is huge, clean, and super well stocked. I ordered pickup from here today and the gentleman at the pickup counter went above and beyond. I didn't park in the pickup spot cause I needed to pick up a few other things before getting my order. He walked all my stuff out to my car which was in the back 40 of the parking lot. Super pleasant fellow. Today's experience gave me good positive vibes about this Safeway. I will only go to this one when in the area in the future. read more

I usually swing by to grab a few things before heading to work (around 7am) and there is always only 1 cashier on duty, Catherine. She seems like a friendly older woman with her frequent use of "sweetie", "honey", and genuine sounding greetings. However, after several run ins with her it's clear her demeanor is fake. I stop by in the mornings, after a 40 min commute, arriving in the area 30 min before work to avoid traffic and give myself time to grab breakfast and chill. So when I swing by in the mornings I want to get in and out to enjoy the calm before work starts. But since Catherine is the only cashier there is always a line. To make things slower she chats up people despite the line. It's a nice gesture for regulars or those who have no pressing business. For the rest of us, it's a bit annoying. I used to entertain her by chatting a bit but sometimes I'd pay and leave as fast as possible, this apparently irked her. On one trip I grabbed some lunch and to my surprise there was no line, there was also no cashier in sight. I stood there for 3 minutes looking around, waiting. Finally Catherine came walking out. I looked at my phone to check the time, to which she said "I was helping someone." I replied, "Ok." But she found it necessary to press, "I had to go back there. It's not like I was just standing around." Again I replied, "Ok. I didn't say anything." This upset her and as I walked out the store she followed me saying in an audible tone, "Dear God, I rebuke the devil." This upset me enough to avoid the store for several months. This morning I stopped by to grab a donut and of course there was a line. The woman in front of me had a couple wine bottles and pastries. She had a bit of trouble paying with her card, slide vs insert. Catherine was clearly annoyed but trying to chat her up nicely. The card was accepted and the woman checked her bag. To which Catherine replied, "I packed the pastries on top. After 30 years I think I know how to pack a bag." The woman said nothing in reply, she grabbed her stuff and left. As I was being rung up Catherine still had more to say, "She comes in here often, you'd think she knows by now that I know how to pack bags." I was done, I don't like this woman and I didn't need to hear her complain about another customer. I said thanks and left although she was yelling at me, "Don't you want your Monopoly tokens?" I said, "No thanks, I'm ok." and sped out the door. I wish she would just speed up the check out a bit. She doesn't need to ask if the guy buying firewood is going on a trip, where he's going, and that must be nice on a weekday. And I wish she'd keep her opinions of other customers to herself, I don't care and frankly I'll probably side with my fellow customer. read more

Trash, wait times are ridiculous. Shop for 30 seconds, wait in line for 30 min. They usually have one or two people checking out and MAYBE self check out is open and works..save time and just go somewhere else. read more

Just moved to the area and wow, what a beautiful Safeway! I could have spent an hour in the deli section. Love the onsite Starbucks (with room for carts) and outdoor eating tables. Appreciate the many self checkout stations, and ones with large unloading areas when I have a lot of items. Always handy to have the option to get cash back here with my Discover card for no fee. Intentionally short-staffed to maximize SPPH. Employees are overworked and in turn much slower, which worsens what would otherwise be a quick trip to the grocery store. The store is either mismanaged or not given enough resources from corporate to sustain their size. Of course, feedback like this is often ignored, in favor of a company's internal metrics of performance, which are independent of reality on the sales floor. read more
