Still looks the same! I recall shopping here when Fort Ord was an active military installation, over twenty years ago. The commissary is one of the few remains in this Ghost town. It is open to active and retired military. My mom signed me in since I don't have an ID card anymore. Sigh!! The commissary is your typical grocery store with everything that the other grocers sell at a discount. Although most items are significantly less, it pays to know your prices on all your items. Some items can be priced higher than you would pay at a big box store. The only thing that they don't sell is alcohol. But you can purchase that at the PX!

Pretty much the only reason I even remember Ord exists anymore. Once in a while I go by the commissary to pick up a handfull of items worth stocking up on. I usually shop at Trader Joe's for good deals and Whole Foods for good produce and specialty items. I like to go by the commissary for a change of pace sometimes. I usually end up buying anything they have that's organic, which isn't much... as well as some non-toxic cleaning supplies they carry. It serves it's purpose although they sell some items (like rice milk) for twice as much as you'd pay at TJ's.

For the most part, going to most any restaurant was a waste of time and money. A better choice was to let them shop and choose at Safeway and then bring it all back to the Hotel. Our choices weren't all that nutritious over all, but it did reduce the drama and later cries of "I'm Starving"! My most pleasant surprise here was that my old California land line number was still linked to the Safeway Loyalty program. Past that, the combination of an unfamiliar store, and so many choices made this Safeway trip a fairly lengthy one. And later back at the Hotel, all was well.

However - I was left a full bag full of someone else's groceries. At first I left it on the porch, but eventually TRIED to contact Safeway and report it. The website makes it damn near impossible and the only contact you're given is AI. When they transfer you to a human, it's not in the US. Biiiig help. Yes, I know I'll get to keep the food, and I got *my* order, but what about the person who is missing an entire bag of multiple items? Safeway doesn't seem to care about their experience at all, or the experience of their regular customers. Yes, DoorDash delivers the groceries - but Safeway CHOOSES to use DD drivers. Be aware that if you order grocery delivery from here, there's no accountability from Safeway and no way to report it to DD, you're just SOOL. I might have to switch to Walmart delivery. Also, every.single.bag had broken/ripped/useless handles because the contents were too heavt for the bags. Everything had to be carried into the house from the bottom!

Hence, began Gayle's search for a salad starting at this Santa Fe Market. This is a nice store that caters more to the Hispanic market. It's clean, well stocked, well priced, and with a lot to choose from. Unfortunately a premade salad wasn't really a choice here. We had already picked up a few items, and decided to put them back in search of a nearby Safeway. If we're in Seaside again with a different shopping list, we'll be back.

They've lowered their quality instead of raising the prices slightly at the hot food area. We…read moreordered a carne asada fries and a burrito. I've had the carne asada fries weekly, sometimes a couple of times a week when I used to work at one of the auto dealers around the corner from them and used to rave about them to family and friends. We stopped there to get dinner tonight, and I got the usual carne asada fries and was so disappointed. They've replaced the regular french fries with shoe string fries which have no substance to them and were not cooked all the way. The carne asada was so well done and chewy that I had to pull some pieces out of my mouth to spit them out and overall it had a very sour taste to the dish, and the amount of cheese and sour cream were nearly non-existent AND finally the container was no longer needing a rubber band to hold it closed like it has for the past 6 years that I've gotten the carne asada fries for lunch, it was about half full. I used to be able to either take home leftovers and have them for dinner or snack on them the rest of my workday, not any longer, now for $15.95 they give a half sized portion of absolute YUCK. What a complete disappointment. I definitely won't be shopping there again. Even their guacamole or Pico de gallo was brown in the cabinet, YUCK! They have really cheeped out on their hot deli foods, unfortunately.
