I've been shopping at this location for a number of years, not because I love the place and have great experiences, but because it's the closest store in my proximity. In fact, I've had a number of unpleasant and or disappointing experiences at this store. Namely, the miserable nature of the staff makes the experience memorable. Everyone is in automatic mode, oblivious to the customer service nature of their positions dealing with the public. People seem to genuinely hate working here, with a passion. If you ask for help, staff seem annoyed or are genuinely unhelpful and have no idea where the items are on the racks. Zero intention to learn the store or know the products or layout. If you step into line, there's no greeting, just a transactional attitude and an air of annoyance that you inconvenienced them with your presence. Once, I forgot a jug of water on the bottom of the basket and was met with an almost confrontational assumption that I was trying to pull a fast one. As if I couldn't afford a distilled jug of water for another dollar after spending $400+ on groceries. In addition, they hire incompetent baggers. I get offering work to those with disabilities, and I commend that. Where I have to draw the line is when they hire someone with no capacity to learn proper bagging techniques and assign them as baggers. I spend a ton on overpriced food item then get home to find the bread under heavy canned items, smashed, or the chips crushed to bits, or the eggs cracked due to incompetence in bagging. When I worked in the grocery industry, we had strict training agendas with a focus on customer service and proper bagging techniques. Preventing cross contamination with raw meats and vegetables, balancing weight, engaging in small talk, greeting every customer. I suppose that era is long over? Is there no training in place now, or is the training just a massive corporate failure? Today, I came in for two items. At the deli, I waited six minutes to be acknowledged whilst three people were troubleshooting a register, completely oblivious to a customer being at the counter. No one even looked up or bothered to greet me. Very typical at this location. In line, I waited patiently for my turn and the checker literally acted like I didn't exist. She didn't greet me nor even acknowledge me. It's as if she saw through me and I was invisible. If you enjoy curt transactions with annoyed staff, over priced items, and over stimulation from dodging people and objects blocking aisles, look no further! I've lived here for the past 10 years, and this Safeway is the closest grocery store to my house -- about a 4-minute drive. That convenience is honestly the only reason I keep coming back, because on nearly every visit I'm followed through the store and watched closely at checkout by one of two different managers. Old guy in a paneled button up or short Indian lady ( she's the worst one). At a time when there's no one or the self check out line is full. The minute I get to check out without fail right over my shoulder. it's clear the real purpose is to check whether I'm paying for everything in my cart. It happens too consistently, with too many different staff, to feel like anything other than being profiled I shouldn't have to choose between convenience and being treated with basic respect as a customer. Every time I am in this Safeway I am harassed by the staff to give them a 10 star rating for their store while I am in the self checkout line. It makes me so uncomfortable that I want to walk out. One of the automatic doors has been broken for months. Sometimes there is a warning cone that forces everyone to go in and out of one door. Sometimes there is no warning and people crash into the door expecting it to open. It is the first impression people have of the store! It does not inspire confidence management cares about maintaining the facility. read more

I had my order mixed up with somebody else's and many things missing after a pick-up order. I called like 2 hours after I picked up and finally noticed to explain and they were having the items that I was missing sent to my house within 45 minutes. Employees have the top 3 worst customer service I've seen. 1. The Indian woman at check out is incredibly rude. I've seen her completely cuss out an older gentleman for accidentally bumping into her (in a very narrow isle; if you know how they box in the entry to the self checkout with the apples). When I say cussing out, she was screaming at him and calling him names. He just stood there deer in a headlights terrified. Didn't say anything back to her. She snaps at multiple coworkers for no reason too (almost every time I'm there). Unfortunately, I think she's a manger. 2. There was another lady who refused to help with me at self checkout a manager code required for 50% off. Told me I had to go wait in line. She was just sitting at her little station with nothing to do... this same lady has come up to me (at self check out) and took the payment monitor and gave it the 10 star rating when I was checking out. She didn't help me at all. It was the weirdest experience I've had. I just stood there thinking.. yeah, I'll put 1 star for the next 5 visits. 3. Positive: there's an older lady who rarely works the self checkout. She is the sweetest. My kid got his tonsils removed so I went to get him ice cream/popsicles. My phone died before I could get the digital coupon (rare $4 off dreyers). She was able to punch in a code and get me the discount would amounted to nearly $15 off. We later found out her granddaughter is in his class. I really hope she finds a better situation outside of this Safeway. read more

I had 2 different experiences with this store in one day. The gentleman at the self check out was not helpful at all. In fact he's very dismissive. Lamb was on sale; sale price failed to come up even with my clipped digital coupon. He says the lamb didn't come in you'll have to come back. I double checked the lamb with the coupon and all I got was a big grown up ‍. What in the world? There aren't a lot of cuts of lamb so this employee is certainly a prize. On my way out I saw a few things that I wanted and Shay helped me. She was over the top kind, helpful and sweet. She's the department manager of liquor. She's the one that needs to run the store. Is Customer service or pleasant employees a thing of the past? If you shop at Safeway, on Green Valley you might agree that it is. Yesterday I ran in with the agenda to buy flowers, a vase and a card. The flower were half dead, obviously the remaining ones a week after Mother's Day. I asked the lady behind the florist desk if she had scissors I could borrow, she told me that was against store policy. Ok, I can understand that in today's world...it probably has been abused. Then I asked her if she could cut 2 inches off the bottom stems. She was NOT pleasant and said it was a $5 dollar charge. Seriously, isn't she paid hourly to help people? Obviously this is a store policy. But is SAFEWAY not really thinking, Imagine, if this employee looked at me and said OF COUSRE, and went and put them in the vase I was purchasing. I would come back again and again. In addition, I also would tell this to my friends and family. But no, her rude agreesive behavior was noted along with the store policy. So, picture this: I'm on this random trail, no name, no signs, just me, my lack of wits, and lost. Hours pass, legs turn to Jell-O, and suddenly, nature calls like a foghorn in the night. I begin to have questionable thoughts. Am I going to last before I find my car? I walk past a piece of somewhat clean paper. It only adds to the temptation. Right before I can't bare it any longer and begin to pop a squat-- I swear it was a moose, and I'm preparing for a National Geographic moment, but nope, just a Great Dane built like a truck runs by. Safeway appears like an oasis in the desert, and behold, the bathroom is a spa for this weary wanderer. Immaculate doesn't even begin to describe it. I'm talking "lick the floor" clean. Well I could not find a place to complain especially on your website so I was forced to go to Yelp. I always use my IPhone app and clip the digital coupons. Never fail. Today my phone was in the repair shop (yes really) for speaker replacement. Asked the clerk to put in the coupons since I had NO phone at this one particular time. I'm sure people pull that all of the time but I am not one of those. I spent an extra dollar on my purchases. Yes I put in my member #. So let me start by saying this used to be a great store. For quite some time there have been huge staffing issues. Also posting discounted prices that don't reflect in their computer system, but that is another story. Last week I went in around 10:00pm to purchase a single item, I get to the front and the self-service line is closed down (They shut it down at 800pm due to staffing/theft issues) and there is one cashier working with a line about a dozen people deep. I noticed another employee walking down one of the aisles seeing the line, but made no attempt to resolve it. After waiting around ten minutes I get towards the front of the line and a third employee comes over to replace the cashier for what was most likely his break. I ask you. If you have additional employees on sight why are they not opening other lines under these circumstances? This is the second time in a two week period that I walked in at a late hour an encountered this sort of service. The first priority should be customer satisfaction and that focus seems to have been forgotten at this particular store. read more

I bought a chicken breast from the chicken counter today and this is what I was given. The lady behind the counter looked at both sides when grabbing it and she carefully put it bone side down in the box, so I didn't even notice until I got it home. But she definitely saw what it was. It's 90% spine and bone. There's nothing even edible on this. Pretty shameful. I am hungry and asking myself what terrible sin I have committed to precipitate such karma as this. read more

Please check the expiration dates on the items you purchase here. I found multiple expired items on their shelves. Additionally, there's an employee who usually works in the self-checkout area, an indian woman, who frequently stands very close behind me while I use the self-checkout. It's uncomfortable and feels like I'm being watched suspiciously, which is quite annoying and borderline creepy. If customers can't be trusted, perhaps reconsider having self-checkout. When I take longer than a few seconds to ring up an item, she immediately starts ringing everything up for me, as if I can't do it myself. If I don't ask for help, please don't assume I need it just because I'm not fast enough with certain items. EDH Safeway, please ask this employee to give customers some space. This behavior makes my shopping experience very unpleasant, and I prefer to shop at the Bass Lake or Cameron Park stores to avoid this issue. Thank you. read more

I was visiting my daughter in law for thanksgiving. Traffic was very backed up, my old eyes can't see in the night, so Terry and I had to stay the night in Folsom. His blood pressure was going haywire from his diabetes so we decided to stop by the local grocery mart to get some sustenance. Upon arrival at this Safeway, we were greeted with only rude and pushy employees. Bakery staff was very kind though. One worker in this establishment was less than delightful, and created an awful, negative atmosphere; again, the bakery workers were incredible! I use to really like this store. I resented having to give a phone number to get a discount but I used a fictitious number. Now they want you to download an app and have you scan everything you buy to get a discount. Absolutely ridiculous,, just give us a decent price and quit tracking our every move! This Safeway is a typical Safeway, the groceries you would come to expect from their company. The staff are usually very friendly and they have both a starbucks, as well as a Jamba Juice vendor located within the store. Pharmacy is standard, as well as both the Bakery and Deli. Cashiers usually have at least 2 lanes open and self checkout will help things go by smoothly. Ample parking room and conveniently located close to home for most people in the El Dorado hills and Cameron Park area. Clean store too. read more

I'm very happy with the variety in this store. They have several vegan cheeses and yogurts. They also carry a good selection of vegan meats. They have shishito peppers, a recent obsession of mine (try them pan roasted with lime juice and salt). The produce sections always looks beautiful and they have a reasonable number of organic choices. There is a Starbucks inside that I have had nothing but positive experiences with. The evening barista I always encounter is very friendly, has excellent customer service skills. Plenty of parking available. I can always find a spot to park my 22' Sprinter van and maneuvering around is easy. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the prices. They're higher than necessary. read more

I live up the street from this store so I frequent it often. I also work retail so I know how these jobs go and I have never ever written a review against anyone in my life until now. But enough is enough. First off, the good. Some of the employees are helpful. There was a middle aged man who went above and beyond once to save me 8 bucks or so when there was a glitch with the weekly ad. I know one of the night managers from my own job and he is a good, pleasant guy. The store is usually decently stocked and very clean. Now, the bad. I am used to stopping here on my way home. Which is around midnight. Which means there self-checkout is down and you have to ring the bell to get rung up. I know they are busy stocking so I hit the bell only once, and am happy to wait and be patient for them. There is an older lady w/ glasses usually working night crew who is assigned as the checker I guess. EVERYTIME I ring the bell and she is there, she comes up and gives me the look of death. Look lady, I understand its likely annoying that you have to stop what you're doing to come up and ring me up but the look is tired. If it were up to me, I'd just use the self checkout in the first place. But you guys disable that after 10? or so. Not only that, she is extremely blunt with her words. Like bad movie villain stuff. Cruella Deville? Recently, I've had to pick up some medicine from the pharmacy. There was a girl around my age working there(mid 30's) and she was also extremely rude. I was picking up medicine for my grandma and she goes "NAME". I haven't done this too often so I asked "my name or my grandma's name?". She looks at me as if I am the dumbest idiot on the planet. Uncomfortable. Now, today, as I write this. I stop in there on a Saturday and am grabbing a hand basket as I walk in. I am happy that I am going in there at a time where I can go to self-checkout and avoid any interaction with these people who clearly hate me. And yet, as I walk in. A woman is standing by the floral department and calls out "hello". I didn't know if it was for me because there were like 6 other people walking in at the same time. She barks out another "HEY". I sheepishly look over and she's staring right at me with a sarcastic smile. I wonder if I was blocking someone's path or something...nope, I was well beyond the door and hand basket area. So I am confused and just sort of nod at her and then she CONTINUES to press it and says "welcome in". One greeting is enough, lady. Especially when you made no effort to greet anyone else who came in at the same time. Now you're on your 3rd effort to get my acknowledgement when I am literally just trying to get in there and out w/ out bothering anyone as quickly as possible. I have a high amount of social anxiety and it should be obvious that I am not looking for this sort of cringey interaction. Personally, it feels like they know I am a nearby neighbor/regular, they have some kind of weird thing going on "oh, theres that quiet a-hole coming in again, lets make his life hell". Won't be coming back. And again, as someone who works retail, it takes a lot for me to complain. But this is targeted at this point. read more

They're sandwich section is great fun, some of the experienced sandwich/ burrito makers will challenge each other to see who is the more talented burrito maker- I love that. This location is ideal! There are no other places to purchase groceries and or gas within miles of this location. It's like an oasis in the hot EDH sun. The store always looks clean and tidy, bathrooms are clean as well. The gas station is beautiful, but unfortunately the 2 times I've purchased something inside the store at the gas station the female employees seem too into loitering in the back behind the wall of the cash register and not being upfront when there are customers in the store. I wish the employees were as adamant about being present when a customer is waiting by the cash register to pay for items as they are about their phones in the back. Hopefully this is just an "Oops" in training. I'm sure they are still working out the kinks as the store is so new. read more

Bald guy (who I'm assuming is the manager) in the frozen section is extremely rude, I've never had a safeway worker be so blatantly disrespectful to my face. I never go out of my way to write a bad review so I hope this says a lot about the types of interactions at this location. Another older lady with curly hair stocking the shelves was not welcoming either. Did not get either of their names unfortunately. This is not my first time with a bad interaction here. We love our Safeway in El Dorado Hills. Since they opened a few years ago they have all but replaced Raley's on the other side of town in many of our opinions. The people that work there have become like family and have come to know us by our first names. They are so endearing that I know more about some of the people there than I do about my own co-workers.
