This is a nice looking Safeway. It is clean and organized for the most part. I recently bought some produce and the same day noticed it was turning (old). I bought pretty much all organic products and I understand produce does indeed go bad eventually but not the day after I purchase it. The customer service that I have experienced is poor. I had Ruth Ann as my checker. She barely said hello and then asked "is everything you are buying organic?" Um most of it but not all of it. It was pure laziness and carelessness. She never one offered or helped me bag my groceries and was distracted by another employee talking to her about something random. It really shouldn't be hard to be friendly and helpful. Also the produce dept. needs to be better managed. read more

A standard Safeway in terms of produce availability and prices. Customer service is poor as is the case in most Safeway locations. They didn't have many organic fruit options. I got some organic grapes from here, which literally had a giant spider web inside. Unfortunately I only found it after consuming the first few grapes, So couldn't return it. read more

Typical Safeway: Floral department is really nice, great selection of flowers. Produce is usually good Meat is great, recently got a BOGO on some tri tips. Store is clean, staff is usually pretty friendly amd helpful. I was disappointed, got some coupons in the mail for signing up for the Just4U program and app. One coupon was specifically for the Starbucks kiosk, I went in after work looking forward to using the 50% off coupon, gentleman behind the counter, saw the coupon and immediately said it may not work, he tries it, and said he'd seen a few others like this and suggested they were fake. The lady working the pharmacy is so rude !!!!!! Not only to me but when I was in line and she was answering the phone it was ridiculous!!! Her favorite sentence was "I don't know " instead of "let me find an answer for you" This is the second time I've came into contact with her and she has now made me want to drive miles away to go somewhere else even though I live right next to this store . Completely annoying and horrible service. I bought 100.00 worth of chicken and they didn't take off any of the special prices right on the front of every package of chicken. I had to drive all the way back to Safeway to get my 15.00 overpayment. This location has serious problems. My review is based on a collection of several experiences that have led me to decide never to shop here again. Customer service has been consistently poor and unwelcoming. It stands out far more when I go to Raley's and experience quite the opposite, consistently. Lines get out of hand and little help arrives. It conjures memories of shopping Food Maxx in the Bay Area. Yesterday's experience was the final straw for me. I went to order a cake Wednesday for my son's birthday and while going through the catalog, one after the other, I was being told there was no stock, no stock, without just helping me out and saying we HAVE stock of this, that, and the other. I finally got to something I liked that they actually could do. When I went to pick it up, I was given a slip to take all the way to a cashier to pay for the cake. So, I waited in this ridiculous line and upon finally getting to the cashier, who looked like he was having a bad day, he took the slip, looked at it, and said while trying to hand it back to me, "this doesn't have a barcode, there's nothing I can do with this." I did not take the slip back and told him this is what they gave me and that I was sent here, so I'm not sure what he'd like me to do. Looking annoyed he paged Bakery and after a minute or two, someone came over to help. After going back and forth to get a barcode, they STILL made me go back to the bakery to physically retrieve the cake. This is unacceptable service, I'm sorry. I came in happy spirits and left hot and irritated, feeling disrespected and near insulted. This capped two other instances when I've gone to this location at 2am or so, to find this "24 hour" Safeway with the doors locked and with other confused customers in the parking lot wondering what's going on. Coronavirus edition: Not sure Safeway has trained it's employees yet on keeping a safe distance from customers. Had a couple guys in the bakery/liquor section chatting it up and had to wait for them to break it up before I could get around them at a safe distance. Most seemed okay though. They have the self-check outs closed during early hours, which actually seems like a safer way for everyone to check out vs. using a checker person. Though I believe they have switched to this checkout method because they are trying to hold the line on hoarders which is a good thing. They have been limiting quantities on some more popular items which has helped. There is no limiting on the number of people who can come in the store at any one time as Winco is doing. I think they need that. And the aisles are narrow in this store so it can be tricky to get by someone, particularly if they are oblivious to their surroundings. They do have tape on the floor signifying a 6 foot distance in the check out lanes. While Safeway has been touting it has special early morning hours for seniors, I don't know that that policy has been universally adopted by all stores. I went one morning early on a Thursday, within the special time frame, and there were all ages of folks in there. So this store had definitely not implemented that policy. No mention on their website that I saw. Plus, it would be great to have a sign outside that mentions their polices and any special hours and actions. read more

Ran into Starbucks to get a coffee for mom . Line was six deep no big deal it's Mother's Day . As soon as I got in line the cashier decided take a break . Understand everyone gets a break , but not the best time to walk away when the line is deep on Mother's Day . Next when you walk away you don't have to let all of us know in line . The girl that was left behind worked hard , couple people walked out . When I got to the front I ordered an ice coffee with heavy cream . Very clean and organized store. Live about 5 minutes away from this location, so I find myself here a few times a month. Great customer service with nice checkout areas. Self-checkout is where I go to, and they recently have had a renovation there. There are automated voiceovers at the self-checkout areas which can be pretty handy for those who are blind, or in need of louder voices. Overall, nice staff, nice store, and nice items. I went to the Safeway Pharmacy on Francisco Drive in EDH for a Tetanus shot. I have been going here for years. I stepped on a nail and my Dr. prescribed a tetanus shot. I have Medicare Insurance and a supplement. The staff charged me a $20.00 co-pay. Medicare coverage includes a tetanus shot with no co-pay when stepping on a nail. The staff was not helpful. They do not understand Medicare coverage and we're not interested in helping me. I paid the co-pay and made a claim to Medicare. read more

The El Dorado Hills Safeway Pharmacy is EXCELLENT!!! The staff and pharmacists, especially Jill- who is the pharmacist(seems like she is always working :) are very professional and efficient. They get patients' medications filled in a timely fashion, and are very compassionate! I also have had several personal encounters with the pharmacy staff besides observing them taking care of other patients/customers ... and they are fabulous! They also let you know if you are due for your medication refills. I would chose Safeway Pharmacy in El Dorado Hills any day!!! read more

I ordered a Moana cake for my two-year-old birthday I ordered it for days advance on the phone they told me that it would be ready whatever time I wanted on the 24th which was my daughter's birthday of October I decided to pick up right before I went to my moms house bring the cake to wear the thing was being held I picked it up last minute thought everything would be fine I get there and I have a white cake with red writing on it no Moana it's not even the size I ordered I begin to of course panic and asked what was there they told me that's what I ordered I said no that's not what I ordered this was one of the worst experiences of my life the lady that was in the bakery. I needed a 3 cakes for a very special event and I tryed 2 other safeways in Sacramento, 19th st Safeway bakery had the worse customer service, not helpful AT ALL and Alhambra bakery was very nice and helpful but since they dont deliver, I needed to go to El Dorado Hills (person picking them up lives near that location. This used to be my go-to Safeway (the store in Cameron Park is horrible) but the management of this Safeway is really disappointing. The lines are truly unbelievable with no hope in sight. I placed a pickup grocery order for over $140.00 dollars that was to be picked up between 7:00 and 8:00 PM the same day at my local Safeway store.I was notified that they had a delay about 6:30PM and would notify me when it was ready to pickup. I called the store at 8:30PM and was told that all pickups were completed and they did not have my order. Someone would call me in the AM. I received an e-mail at 11:30 PM that day that the order would be canceled and to contact them in the morning. I called and talked to the morning manager the next morning and was told I had to reorder and they hoped they had a time today for me to pickup my order and to call customer service. We have been Safeway shoppers for 40 years and I am very disappointed how this was handled. We are not doing shopping in the store due to Covid. Safeway needs to fix there pickup system! I have been using their grocery delivery website. I always seem to have problems getting the exact product I order or I don't get them at all. Today I ordered and received 20% of my order. I work late so sometimes I end up shopping between 1-2 am. While shopping at this store at 1 am they announced the store was closed I found this confusing since the store is open 24 hrs. When I asked I was told the check stands would be closed for 20 minutes. I found the announcement that they were closed to be intentionally misleading 20 minutes is a lot different then the whole store being closed for the rest of the night. I totally get that it's late and it was only me and another couple in the store but they seemed just as confused as I did. A few weeks ago, I picked up lamb for my first time. I asked the butcher how to cook it. He gave me some wonderful seasoning and said this will be perfect. It was. Today I came back to thank him and I met two more of the staff in the meat department. They were so helpful. Stopped what they were doing and helped me find what I needed. Ive been going to this local Safeway since it opened. The selection at each safeway is essentially the same, but the staff is stellar. I can't say anything about the pharmacy because honestly, I never use it and don't need to. Take more vitamins people and wouldn't have to yelp about the Safeway pharmacy! Anywho, the prices are pretty standard (just like other Safeways). The only reason I'm yelping this is because of the GAS! By far cheapest gas from Missouri Flat Exit (where the other Safeway is) all to Folsom Blvd (Folsom). The one way access to gas pumps can be a pain in the ass but other than that, always get gas here. Only beneficial to those with a club card number. Allowing political parties to sit by the front of store on either side with a recall petition is offensive and reflects on the store and company and has no place there. Makes me not want to shop or give me money to such companies. Also, most things through the Just For You program do not ring up correctly after I add to my card and I have to go to customer service desk. Often sale items are out of stock as well. I went there at 3:30AM, September 9, 2017 and the entrance door was locked! There were 6 customers and we just looked at each other baffled because it's supposed to be open 24 hour. I will drive 30 minutes out of my way to avoid this place. Unfortunately for convenience I have to go here from time to time. This place has to have been built on an ancient Indian burial ground or something, it's just so bizarrely awful. The employees will avoid eye contact at all costs, and are sometimes just plain rude. Definitely don't go in the morning hours when they are stocking, unless you're looking to make grocery shopping a full contact sport. On two separate occasions this morning, an employee was blocking the aisle. When I waited and finally said "excuse me," I was met with a vacant stare. I had to move their crates out of my way to continue shopping, and not so much as a look from the employee. Older ladies in deli are very cranky and rude to their younger co-workers and customers. Doesn't make you want to order from them. Needs to be more respect there!
