This is our closest Safeway/supermarket. We've been using it for about a year. I thought it was fine at first--that there was really nothing to review about a chain supermarket--but over time, certain dissatisfactions have surfaced, that have pushed me to start using farther supermarkets, incorporating them into other errand runs. The convenience of closeness is starting to be outweighed by other factors. I have nothing bad to say about the employees, who've always been friendly and helpful, or the overall vibe: cleanliness, etc. Overall, this store is probably perfectly average. My gripes are pretty small and specific in nature, but just enough to be annoying to me personally, but others can probably take this with a grain of salt. Prompt restocking of specific items I happen to regularly buy can be an issue here. People are right when they say parking can be stupidly complicated: comparatively small lot, lots of people cruising. The pharmacy is slow to fill, slow to notify, and often runs out of certain drugs, directing us to other Safeways. Multiple times, I've bought fresh meat from the butcher and deli counters only to have it go off sooner than usual. That said, the helpdesk was always willing to give an instant cash refund, almost no questions asked. read more

The restroom at Safeway on Coburg in Eugene OR almost always 'needs attention'. Not talking about a stray piece of TP on the floor or soap dripped on the counter! No--- worse. I always 'report' it to the manager. But here's what I found just the last couple of weeks. I used the bathroom but the large toilet paper holder was broken and hanging down. The large roll of TP was on the baby changer. That was out of reach from the toilet. A nuisance, but not 'dirty'. I reported it to the manager. 6 days later I was at that Safeway again. The holder was still broken. A large roll of TP was on the baby changer with a dirty baby bootie on top of it. It gets worse. There was another large TP roll on the floor, right next to the pedestal. And a couple of inches from that was a large puddle of urine! I reported it and the manager said "That's disgusting!" Agreed. Now, why would it take 6 days for the holder to be fixed? IF it was even reported by the female manager whose attitude when I would report bathroom problems wasn't exactly what I'd call friendly. The male manager (Mr. disgusted) said that someone is supposed to check the bathrooms every 30 minutes and 'someone wasn't doing their job'. Which brings me to the next topic----- Safeway at Coburg in Eugene OR has been eliminating jobs there for a while. The produce man had to go to the front and bag groceries one time while I was there!!!! Seriously? Now, more bathroom talk. There is only one bathroom, unisex, for the store. The unisex doesn't bother me since there's only one toilet there and it can be locked. But for a store as large as this one (with a lot of women there, a lot with small children) one toilet is close to illegal. People are sometimes lined up waiting to use their dirty bathroom. Better than peeing down your leg, I guess. Then, if you're in a wheelchair, disabled in some way or old and feeble (we all get there at some point) getting into the bathroom is a major challenge. It takes a hard shove to open the door. I have a tough time sometimes due to weak wrists. Good thing I've never had a bout of diarrhea while shopping! Folks, start complaining to the manager. I will be writing to Regional Managers of Safeway to report this. Eugene Weekly maybe. Local newspaper, unless that paper is receiving revenue from Safeway, at which point it will be useless I guess. I hope that the managers of Safeway will come here and tell us how that is all going to be changed and how they'll add at least one more public bathroom for us. read more

The exterior of the store looks like someone dumped a trash can in front of the door and all over the parking lot everyday. Safeway must have a thing against picking up the trash that litters their entryways. The recycling area is so filthy I'm almost inclined to sue for new shoes after stepping into years worth of sugary substance that has built up on the pavement that they absolutely refuse to clean with anything other than plain water from a now broken faucet. McDonald's even knows how to clean soda off the ground; and their children! For goodness sakes Safeway! read more

This is the worst Safeway in all of Lane County. Today was my final straw. Every time I go to their Deli Dept there's always flies flying around, the garbage is over flowing and the staff look like they just rolled out of bed. Not to mention the Manager who is always has an excuse for why she's short on merchandise. Today they had the nerve to try to charge me full price for a wrap that was missing one the key ingredients. When I asked for a discount not only did they turn me down, they offered to add cheese but I would have to pay extra. I was shocked and so was the women in line behind me. Before Baily Hill closed down I worked in the Deli, often if we were ran out of something we were told to get it off the shelf and charge it to our department. Do you think that troll of a manager thought to do that absolutely not. read more

I work next door to this Safeway and go to the deli for a lunch special from time to time. The staff is horrid! Half the time they refuse to even ring me up and when someone finally does they have a terrible attitude about it. They just act very "put out" and angry. The store itself is great for groceries but if you just want to buy a simple lunch from the deli it's always a bit of a hassle for the employees. read more

I frequently get the breakfast burritos at Safeway. And normally I get a lot of bang for my buck. But the lady at the deli today, with the smiley face on her name tag, may have made the worst burrito yet. She literally just squished the egg, sausage and potato wedges in her hand and attempted to spread the cluster of crap evenly over the tortilla. Extremely embarrassing and hard to watch. And then to wrap it so terribly, thank you. Today, was a failure for the Safeway Deli. I give 2 starts for the automatic checkout. read more

I shop in this store often and the employees are always very nice but had an extra great moment this evening at the deli. On my evening walk I impulsively stopped in to grab something from the deli and realized after I had ordered that I only had $7 in my pocket for my $7.49 purchase (i usually have some money and my drivers license with me when I walk for just such impulses). I told the clerk that I would just run home to get some more $ and come right back to get it but she said she would cover it for me. She stepped away and came back and handed me 2 quarters and I was so touched by that kindness. It may seem like a small thing but impressed this 64 year old lady very much as I am sure she treats all her customers with the same kindness and respect. read more

This is my local Safeway and I think it is a very good one. I love the bakery here, they do an amazing French loaf and Dutch crunch loaf that are so good. I also like the produce section which is very tidy and easy to find what you are looking for with a single sweep. The staff are always very helpful and nice and when the u-scan coupons and Safeway app first came out a manager walked me through the whole process so I could take advantage of the saving right away! I usually have marked down items that need special scanning and the staff never make me feel crappy or cheap for bargain shopping. read more

Typical grocery store, except for the fact the store manager is very rude and brushes you off if you have an issue, the cashiers are also very rude and really show that they don't want to be there, but besides all that "amazingness" The pharmacy is the worst. Came in to pick up a script and I live 1 hour away out in the country. I called in ahead of time and they assured me that they would be open. I came in to find them shutting the door in my face and telling me "sorry, they're closed for lunch." I told them that I had come an hour away to just pick up a script, and they said that there wasn't anything they could do. I'm switching stores and pharmacies. Very professional I might add. Oh and did I forget to mention that driving in that parking lot is like a death sentence? yeah... read more

I love shopping here. Everyone is friendly, professional, helpful, and they make sure there are never long lines. It is like going to Disneyland in comparison to shopping at other stores. Even those working in the bottle return area are nice, super competent, quick, and deserve a raise. The food in the deli is always better and the clerks are happy to serve you, no matter how busy they are. The restroom was clean, the one time I used it, which I've never found in any other store which always seem to smell funky. The customer service person is always friendly, especially if you are a repeat customer. I love the layout and always find what I need easily, never have trouble finding someone to help. It would be nice to get more benefits for being a repeat customer, such as dollars off coupons, but that is the only suggestion I have. read more

Ordered a $1.69 fountain soda with my deli meal, went through self-checkout to pay (they used to offer to check me out at the deli), and went to fill the soda. Nothing in the machine but two flavors of diet soda. Waiting at the deli checkout (I guess they still do that for people), me standing there with a cup in my hand didn't grab the clerk's attention, but eventually someone else noticed. Oh, this happens, they said (so why did they sell me the fountain soda?!?), you can go down aisle 2 and get a Refreshe soda to replace it. So I hiked over to pick up a 99-cent Refreshe cola (I saw three flavors) and walk out. I don't know if they wanted to scan it for inventory purposes or anything, but everyone was busy and I didn't care. The deli is one of the few reasons I ever mess around with this Safeway anymore, but it has deteriorated close to the point of no return. Winco prices are far better and the employees are just as friendly and competent, sometimes more so. read more

since new management has taken over in last few years the majority of workers there are now rude & unfriendly! the absolute worst customer service in the pharmacy. they treated my daughter so mean that she walked out in tears. she was so sick and needed the medicine but they would not call to have it transferred unless she gave them the phone number to the pharmacy i dropped it off at. because i will not ever use their pharmacy after they treated me poorly, lost my presciption and failed to fill it after four days. had to go to bimart and they called and got it then filled it immediately. they need to replace all the pharmacy techs and wouldnt be bad to replace the main management that so proudly struts her stuff while her employees are pushing away customers by being unkind. read more
