This Safeway store seemed similar to all of the rest of the grocery stores that I've been too. Nothing too fancy or ghetto, just the basic set-up with everything in its place. Today I spent most of my time around the deli secuon where I purchased a coue of different sliced meats and cheeses. The first order of business for me was the half pound of regular ham and Genova ham. I also got a quarter pind of provalone cheese which was thinly sliced. Finally, I couldn"t pass-up the the Greek pasta salad, because it really is one of my favorites. While I was here, I also picked-up a gallon of skim milk, and somegraham crackers. I had no issues and I was glad that their deli was open with people ready to help. read more

Terrible grocery store. Not only did they not have basil, they didn't even have a place to stock basil implying that they don't carry it in the first place. Staff was impersonal, unhelpful, and generally unpleasant. The doors on one side didn't even work and there was no sign to inform customers. Every Summer, Safeway has a potato salad in their deli case that I really enjoy. On several occasions I have purchased some and have noticed the price on the scale--the per pound price is a dollar more than what is on the price tag in the deli counter. If you do not catch this mistake, you will be over charged. What I'm confused about is even after my complaint--the price has not been changed. It gives one pause to think about what else Safeway in West Falls Church #1304 is price gouging. Alcohol is another item that is never truly priced correctly. Be sure the tags match up with the item. I thought about reaching out to corporate, however doing so requires writing a snail mail letter or speaking with a help desk person (like I did) who sounded as if she had an edible before her shift started. Bottom line: I can't speak for all Safeway stores, but #1304 on Lee Highway is ripping folks off. My advice: Use the self checkout, take your time scanning and listen for the savings off while scanning and read your receipt before stepping away from the register. read more

A nice location here. Also a clean store. This one probably could use a renovation, but my biggest issue is price. Safeway pretends to care about value, but more often than not, they are too expensive. I understand grocery store profits aren't huge, so maybe the costs are due to union issues or something else. This one has quite a selection though. Every once in awhile, you can get a super buy promotion item. If you're a saavy shopper, you'll do well with these. Very nice staff at this location. I like this Safeway in general. I like the staff here in general, seem chill, I like that there is distance between the self check out stations, so I'm not breathing down someone else's back and vice versa, when doing the oh so fun task of scanning a bunch of items in a cart etc. I also like their fun thematic displays, and I also like their bakery section, and their dairy section is easily accessible, it isn't sort of "hidden" or with all of these like freezer compartment type doors. I really this Safeway, is a functionally speaking, imho, better Safeway than most. It isn't too big, and it isn't too overcrowded with people/"shoppers" presumably, etc., usually, and or over-packed with various displays and knick knacks hanging in the aisles, almost to the point where I feel like I am in a submarine or something so net net I really like it. read more

It's pretty close to my house so I stop here every once in a great while when I need something. Not really a Safeway fan since the stores always seem old, crowded, dirty and expensive. They do have a good selection of gift cards and frozen dinners so if you need those things or happen to need something and are passing by, this place is okay. Otherwise I'd go elsewhere. read more

Normally I would never go to a 2-star Safeway. But I came here on a whim to hit up some groceries in a stay-at-home world just to see my options, expecting nothing. Toilet paper aside, I can get everything I need. The veggies were actually abundant and didn't have grungy options leftover. Competitive items like eggs, frozen veggies, ice cream, and baking goods were all present. Definitely on the small side, but it was nice to see some of the rapport of the neighborhood - got to see regular interactions between patrons and staff while in line that I basically never see at my own location in the middle of the day. They recently did renovations and redid the layout. It looks good, clean, and new. I'm a regular and the people are always very friendly. My major complaint is definitely the prices. I recently started paying attention to how much cheaper Shoppers and Walmart are compared to this Safeway. If you're looking for convenience and this Safeway is closeby to you, I definitely recommend it. If you're looking for a good deal, this isn't the spot. If you haven't been in a while, they redid the whole entire strip mall. There are new stores and the facades have been updated. Check it out. This is our closest Safeway. If we need things quickly, we go here. Parking is ample and affords easy access to the store. The store is pleasant and clean. Staff are quite helpful. Selection is good, even during the pandemic. It is expensive, relatively speaking for a grocery store. (But maybe comparing blueberry prices between a small Safeway store and Aldi isn't fair? The difference was excessive, though.) All in all, this isn't our heavy duty, stock up grocery store, but it works for items you missed or ran out of. read more

My husband and I were mistreated at the pharmacy yesterday the 18 at 1 they offer us to get the flu shot we went to use the bathroom and these two ladies got so upset with a nrsty attitude they locked the bathroom we walked out and ripped the form we are seniors they don't have to treat us this way NEVER COME BACK to this place read more

NO NO NO NO NO. I gave this Safeway three tries, and I AM DONE. I wish it could pass for an acceptable grocery store since it is on my way home from work, but I will actually drive out of my way to go to another grocery store (the Giant on 50 is very nice) from now on. I agree with pretty much everyone else who says the food is old or expired. I can't buy produce here. Every time I go, the produce is on the edge of being rotten. Today I went to go find some green peppers. Not only were they wrinkly, they were actually slightly MUSHY. A green bell pepper should be crisp. These had the texture of a nerf ball. EVEN IF THEY WERE GIVING THEM AWAY I still might not eat it. So I went to the girl who was working at the fish counter and asked her if there were any more in the back. She gave me a snarky "I work in the fish department" and stormed off in the back. Uh, no kidding but whatever she probably has people coming up to her all day asking questions about the crappy produce. So she brings out the guy who I guess could be called "the produce guy." He said he just put the peppers out today. I told him to go find ONE pepper in that bunch that HE WOULD EAT. He wouldn't. That's probably because he knows how bad they are. How could they make the Safeway even worse than it originally was? This has always been the worst Safeway in the area since it had not been renovated since the early 80s. At least previously, I liked the cashiers and the staff tried their best to compensate for the lack of decor. So what did the latest renovations do? Not much... Everything pretty much stayed the same except some new produce counters. Customers run around really confused and get in your way for no reason whatsoever. Bad Feng Shui. When you go in, all you want to do is run out... The parking situation is always a mess... I shop at this location out of convenience. It is the closest grocery store to my house but it is one of the smaller Safeway locations in the area, making selection limited. I have also developed a habit of checking each and every expiration date because expired products seem to be more and more common on the shelves. read more

A pretty bad grocery store. You could do much better unless it's closest to you and you just need to pick up a few basics. The store itself is small. The selection is quite lacking. The fruit always seems to be at the tail end of it's shelf life. The checkout aisles seem to be perpeturally backed up. The parking lot is frightening. (The light at lee highway combined with the service road make it a dangerous intersection, traffic trying to get out is regularly backed up well into the parking lot.) If it weren't for the kind people at this store I wouldn't even shop there...I don't have to wait at a single traffic light to reach this store from my house, and it's an easy walk...but it's a pretty sad looking place. There are rumors that the store may be redone soon, and there is a clear indication that the strip mall owner has some kind of plans for this mostly vacant shopping center (as a resident of the neighborhood in which this shopping center resides I can only hope so). I came to order a birthday cake, that my neighbor recommended. I ordered my cake about 3 weeks prior, went to pick it up waited for 10 minutes and it wasn't finished, had to be back 30 minutes later. I used to hate this Safeway before the Covid19 because it was so woefully understaffed. Now, they have stepped up, and surpassed the neighboring grocery stores. The produce is fabulous, and unlike before, they have plenty of cashiers now. And everyone has such an amazing attitude, despite working in hot masks all day. Yes, the parking lot is congested. The strip mall is pretty nice post-renovations. Given that you have Original Pancake House next door in addition to a Brueggers, Verizon store, and Subway close by means that people are going to be parked there. The store itself is so much better inside than it was before the renovation. Lots of self check out, which is nice. Great selection of beer and wine. My husband and I usually go to pick up something quick, like when we run out of ketchup or something. If you have the time, Wegmans isn't that far down 29. Worst experience. I bought and item and said to pay $30 cash and rest only credit. The cashier charged the whole thing on credit and as well as took $30 Cash. I paid $30 more for an item. This Safeway bugs, the only reason it's convenient is that it's right off of Lee Highway. Other than that, that's about it. The parking lot is ALWAYS a cluster that intersects more ways than 7 Corners and people are going every which way as well. Inside is cool, I respect more stores that have the self checkouts. I've yet to have a good experience here. From the unenthusiastic staff (if you see any staff at all) to the poorly organized store and the stupid parking lot! The self checkout doesn't make anything quicker and if you dare wait for a real cashier you'll be there for a while. I only come here when I'm in a bind because I live close. This store has definitely gotten a little better with the recent renovations. I go there because they have good sales and it is on my way home from work. I used to have to wait in line forever because they didn't have enough checkers (checkers were nice though). Now with the self check out and it seems they have hired extra help it is much improved and looks cleaner. Parking lot still is a mess - set up really badly. This grocery store is clean and organized I'm always able to find what I need plus there is usually no lines and if there are they have self checkouts which is quite convenient for impatient people such as myself. However, the parking is horrible there is hardly ever any parking and even if you do find parking good luck trying to get out because there is much traffic in that shopping center and people like to cut through from Lee hwy so it's a pain to get out. read more

This Safeway seems just a tad smaller than other stores - most noticebly in the meat department. Produce department is really limited selection of greens and has only the most basic of items. While there are tons of cashier lines, I dotn' think I've ever seen more than 5 lanes open. Even when its extremely busy. This store provided a "rain check" for a sale item in December 2018, and the date on the "rain check" was 2016. So of course they would not honor it. On more than one occasion I have gone into this store for specific sale items and they are not restocked during the week of the sale prices. One week I went in on 4 different days and the item was never in stock. I think there is something a little shoddy if not downright dishonest about the business practices at this store. read more

This is probably the worst grocery store in the Falls Church area in terms of merchandising and cleanliness. The feel as soon as you walk in is cluttered, and the aisles and shelves, while organized well enough, are always in a state of disarray. Even the promotional signage around the store gives off a sense of homemade and hodge podge application of what I presume are Safeway's corporate merchandising recommendations. I don't typically need service at a grocery store, but any interaction with staff in this location has been very brief and curt. It's standard to see only 1-2 lanes open at any given time, so self-checkout seems to be the strongly suggested way to purchase. read more

I live across the street so I do almost all of my shopping here. It's just a great convenience to walk to the store instead of having to jump in my car. This is a "no-frills" kind of place. I go in and get what I need and get out. It's clean and the fruit/vegetable selection is good. This is not one of the mega stores that seem to have everything. It's a neighborhood type store. Despite only giving this place two stars, I shop here about once a week for one thing or another. The shopping center was recently "renovated" which was strictly cosmetic. Half of the parking lot is nothing but pot holes. They also tried to do some cosmetic improvements in the store which. consisted of new tile in one area, a flower kiosk, and a pharmacy in the back. The rest of the store is still grimy. In addition to the old facility, checking out is s-l-o-w. Don't understand why, but it just is. They also do NOT stock strawberry Quick for my milk. By far the worst Safeway I have ever shopped at. No customer service whatsoever. I stopped in Thursday after dinner and used the self checkout. There was an issue with the price of one item. After waiting 5 minutes the attendant came over and said let me get the manager. Well by that time I just decided to void that item. Well the void needed the manager's approval. Finally she came over and I told her that the item did not ring up correctly so I wanted to void it. She did not even ask me if I still wanted the item. This store is very ghetto. read more
