Perfect, as they say, is the enemy of good enough. The later definitely describes this store, albeit with somewhat absent deli personnel, some empty shelves, and staff where were obviously experiencing ennui or an existential epiphany. However, they do have prepped salads, with the deli prep much, much better than the Safeway brand, a good selection of guac and buffalo wing dips, and hummus. Otherwise, don't go looking for specialty items like gluten free stuff - although they do have Oreos thereof - since you'll be at best disappointed. Staples - mostly yeah. 3.5/5 This is a decent Safeway to shop at. Some of the more exotic produce such as dragonfruit and mangos looked past their prime but the rest of the produce looked fresh. I suspected that the place I was staying at had previously housed a cat because I was getting some bad allergy symptoms and needed some OTC meds. With congestion and sinus issues the only thing that works for me is regular Sudafed. Note that they carry only phenylephrine based Sudafed (PE) in the aisles, but if you want the good stuff you'll have to ask for it at the pharmacy, where they offer both brand name and generic brand pseudoephedrine. Pretty common procedure these days at Walgreens so I'm not surprised it's the same here at Safeway (And no I'm not Heisenberg or Pinkman from Breaking Bad). What got my attention at this Safeway was the tempting chicken wing bar. There really ain't no thing but a chicken wing! They had a good assortment of boneless and bone-in wings, priced at $6.99/lb. Not sure if it's the same at other locations but I really liked that they offer this! We did end up getting a mixed pound of almost every variety they offered. Out of all the wings my favorite were the salt and vinegar bone-in wings. The wings were tender, lightly crispy and I really enjoyed the seasoning. read more

Just stopped by Safeway on HWY 89 Flagstaff Az. to but dinner. Probably $100+. One reg checkout line open but backed up into produce and self-serve backed up to the Starbucks. NO MANAGER IN SIGHT! Reminded me why I try not to shop there. Always terrible customer service throughout the store. The storw used to be real good at providing hood service. I don't think this manager cares at all! Hello Fresh is my better choice and really alot cheaper. Sorry Safeway but you are terrible! read more

I feel like reviewing a grocery store isn't something you do often unless it's really bad or really good... in this case, it's really good! I recently did a drive up and go order and I've been really lucky because almost every time I get the same two ladies shopping for me; Denise and Treasure. Both do an excellent job of selecting my groceries, especially produce which we are super particular about. Also, they are so friendly. I was so impressed this last time because they actually remembered such a specific item- they were out of the beer I like and they didn't even ask to substitute it because Denise remembered that was the only option- there were no suitable substitutes! Also, they have a guy working there, Mike, who rounds up the carts mostly and will bag on occasion and he is always smiling and saying hello and striking up friendly conversation. I actually can't say enough about how many friendly employees are at the Cedar Safeway. We have a few other grocery options and this continues to be my favorite. read more

It's kind of hard to review a Safeway, because they carry the same things and are all very alike to each other. This is one of two locations in Flagstaff, and despite being smaller than the one on Milton, it is much better. Part of this happens to be due to the cleanliness. You can come here at all hours of the day, and find a store that is as well maintained as it was a few hours before. They do a phenomenal job of it out here. As for the lines, well yeah, that happens a lot. But part of the reason there is such a long line is sometimes because some customers spend way too much time checking out. Personally, I prefer using the self checkout kiosks, however there are often not enough, which makes them less convenient. read more

It's your typical grocery store with everything you would need. I'm more of a Fry's grocery person and prefer their prices over Safeway. But nonetheless if I need something in a pinch, they will have it and they're usually less crowded then other grocery stores in the area. Plenty of parking and bathrooms are clean! read more

Maybe it's all about the benjamins or pricey neighborhood that gives this very polished and clean Safeway the shopping carts to match the black Landrovers. Possible' *in my French accent*. So, I had surgery and can't get out of my dadgum car! I've been twice to place an order and they're nice enough to bring the order to my car... even took the time to bring produce and bread to front window instead of just chucking it in the back with the rest of the groceries. I visit this Safeway and Starbucks almost daily. It's really frustrating when you're having to stand in line forever to get a drink. There is usually only one barista and a line of people. It's not fair to the customer or the barista having to run this Starbucks on their own. I know Safeway's make plenty of money to be able to afford to have two baristas during peak hours. I have shopped at this Safeway for as long as it has been in existence, and have usually been quite pleased with everything. Now I notice that, apparently, they no longer carry Dryers No Sugar Added ice cream. As a diabetic, this is one of he few deserts I am able to eat and it is sorely missed. When is a Supermarket more than just a Supermarket? It's when a really good department head does a fantastic job. The meat department in this Safeway is run by Mark. Mark and his crew ( esp Alli & Josh) will remind you of an old fashioned butcher shop. I got two full racks of prime rib for a family event. Just the right amount of trim on a fat pad. And they'll tie the ribs with twine if you want. Beef shanks for another event, cut to exactly the right thickness, no bone chips. Atlantic Salmon for another event, they cut the head-half for me to get the great belly fat. If you're a foodie this is the place in FLG for meat and seafood, just because of those people. read more

I do the bulk of my grocery shopping here. The employees are friendly and all around pleasant to deal with except for one cashier " Roberta". Very rude, and short answered. Out of 23 items purchased, she didn't bother to bag a single thing. Not that I mind bagging my own groceries. I walked in simply requesting a taco and for some strange reason all they did was refer me to a place called aisle 9. Once I gathered all the spices and shells, I was yelled at and told I am not pregnant. I didn't understand the statement one bit. This is by far the most racist place I have ever visited. A+ Floral Department! I popped in here on one of my many trips to Flagstaff while planning my wedding. I was just pricing out bulk flowers and getting an idea on what I was going to be spending. The florist was extremely helpful and was always available to chat on the phone to answer my countless questions. I am so glad we used their floral department for bulk flowers! The price was very reasonable and the flowers themselves were stunning! It's been well over a week now, and they still look beautiful. They are a wonderful reminder of our perfect day! I make a habit of shopping at Safeways on our travels because I'm from CA and appreciate the familiarity and quality of this chain. This particular Safeway is clean, has great service and quality. However, for the past several weeks I've checked for rice and split peas and there hasn't been any (attributed to the current pandemic.) In fact the beans section has bare shelves. Got fed up and went to Frys down the street where I found two different brands of split peas and a plethora of rice -- white, brown, basmati, jasmine, etc. I think I found myself a new market, at least for now. read more

This must be one of the worst Safeways I've been to, which was disappointing because last summer it was my favorite one in town. Now it's terrible for selection of almost everything on my list. Doesn't even carry their own brand Organics in so many things including items on my Just4u list. Most the organics produce was shot even before best by date but moreover they just didn't have much whereas the Milton location usually has most things and in good shape. Amazing how a same name store across town can be so disappointing. On the other hand I did just increase them a star for the meat department where I just got the tastiest wild salmon I've had all year. Also, their chicken breasts in the case looked properly trimmed whereas Milton Ave Safeway's meat department leaves something to be desired. read more

I prefer the layout of this Safeway to the other stores in town. For me fuel rewards are the big draw. You earn points on grocery purchases, and extra points for gift card purchases. I buy a lot of gift cards here to do my other shopping, and usually get $1.00 off per gallon of gas. They cap you at 25 gallons per purchase, so I keep a couple of 5 gallon cans in the garage. I probably save about $100 per month on gas doing this. My only complaint with the store is the lines. It's not rocket science. People swing by the store on their way home from work. Having only half the checkout lanes open at 5:30pm drives me bonkers. read more

Always always always there are long lines. Follows suit with other Safeways by constantly moving stuff around. Aisles get crowded with displays and locals who come to Safeway to chat with others. Good bakery with a wide selection of treats. The bathroom should be avoided, just trust me on that one. Also try to work around lunch time...there is a high school nearby and the place is crawling with kids from 11-1 or so. They know where they can find good food...the deli is very good and prices are reasonable. read more

Definitely better than the other 3 or so locations in Flagstaff. A bigger variety meaning more options for dinner! An awkward location being out of the way of 66 but still easily accessible. Cheap gas including a non-fee gas rewards program. However, the prices of groceries are still pretty high. Still, this is tied with Fry's for the best place for groceries...unless there were an Aldi store around here. read more

This is my regular store. But, we got a Tres Leches cake from the bakery, WORST CAKE EVER. All the milk was in the bottom layer, concentrated in the center. The whole rest of the cake was dry. Too bad. Will not get a cake from them again. read more

I'm not a loyal customer of any gas station, but if you shop at Safeway you can get gas rewards. Busy during the moderate Flagstaff rush hours, but off hours usually has no wait time. Typically around the average price for Flag gas stations. read more

This Safeway has a great selection of products, however the staff at this location is lackluster to say the least. Two of the male cashiers will talk your ear off and try to make small talk like they're looking for new poker buddies, both look to be literally mentally handicapped, so it makes the register conversation resemble a conversation with a ten year old. The older ladies that work the register are much better, so if given the opportunity always go with the female cashiers. Other than the one register open with ten customers in line, and the two male talk your ear off about nothing dudes hat work the late shift this place is a great place to buy groceries. Just be prepared to tell the guy cashiers what you're doing his weekend, your favorite dinner, favorite color,date of birth, and social security # as those two will literally hang the line up for twenty minutes taking. Starbucks is good too. Try the orange chicken. read more
