I visited this Safeway on a Saturday afternoon. I was shopping in the area and decided to complete my grocery shopping as well. The parking is ample in the plaza. The establishment itself was very clean and organized. I was able to find all the things on my list. It was a bit weird to see only one checkout lane open on a Saturday however, all of the self checkouts were open. Checkout was very easy and the cashier was extremely friendly and helpful. Guess customer service isn't a thing anymore? Use to work for Randall's Grocery Store ( owned by Safeway) and the company was all about customer service ( to justify the high prices). Looks like we are just left with high prices and no customer service. Came in last night around 845 pm and only two people working, one was a security guard making sure you didn't steal, and an associate at the self check out. Zero registers were open. Older lady with a big cart full of groceries hopelessly trying to check herself out, while the associate just sat and watched her check out. I asked her " excuse me maam did you want to check yourself out?" She replied no frustratedly. The associate was like " we close registers at 9pm". I asked does the store close at 9pm? His response and blank stare was like " ummmm nooooo" as he cluelessly didn't get it. All these corporations have lost their way. Most people don't like self checkout and it shouldnt be the only option. Just for this encounter... never going back. Not like they care... read more

I recently transferred my prescriptions to Safeway after researching the prices and realizing they were more in my budget. The Associate who assisted me, Shruti and the Pharmacist on duty at the time were simply the best. (So sorry I didn't get his name.) This Safeway is always very well stocked and the environment is always pleasant. After doing some grocery shopping, we decided not to use the self-checkout but to go to a live person. We had the pleasure of interacting with Kenney, a very nice, courteous, friendly and professional young man. Though there was a line, it was very worth the wait. He reminded us of what excellent customer service looks and feels like. Thank you, Kenny, for making our shopping experience a great one. read more

I chose this Safeway as my first experience for online grocery shopping and pickup. The site was easy to use, the process was simple and quick. Text message was received once my groceries were ready. The 2 gentleman who loaded my car with the bags were sweet and gave excellent customer service! I shop at this location in store often. Customer service has always been on point. The store is clean, fresh fruits and vegetables. I can usually find items here which are hard to find at competitors. read more

I just come every now and then when i'm to lazy to take the extra 2 minute drive to Food Lion. This is our go to grocery place. Usually hubster does the grocery shopping, but sometimes we go together on a day off. We did that today. Monday during the day, it wasn't too crowded. They actually had 3 lines open, so that was great. Sometimes the cashiers here are very attentive and take their time, but they are always kind. The place is usually stocked well and the produce is usually good and fresh. I've found in some of the other fancier grocery stores in the area that the produce there turns quickly. But usually from Safeway it lasts. My favorite part about this location is the one manager is always working so hard. She's super on top of things. I've seen her opening lines, directing people, checking on her staff. She's absolutely a quality employee and a good leader of her team. read more

This Safeway is top notch! They have a huge selection of everything and the shelves are always stocked. There is plenty of parking and handicap accessible spots. The bakery is amazing. I went to get a cake for my mom's birthday this weekend and one of the bakers was so kind and helpful. She was professional and clearly skilled at her job. The cake was delicious and my mom was really happy. I'm impressed by the quality and design of their display cakes and pieces to grab on the go. I plan on buying all my event desserts here from now on. read more

Staff is friendly. However, management seems to be lacking. Placed an online pickup for Monday pickup at 5pm. I didn't need anything on that list for dinner that night, so I didn't press it when I never received a notification it was ready. I was fine waiting until Tuesday. Received a message Monday night around 8pm that they couldn't fill my order and to reschedule my order. So, I did. For the following day at 5pm. The following day comes and 6:00 is here with no communication. I decided to call and they said their evening employee scheduled never showed. Their morning did however. Why didn't they fill my order? So... here I am with nothing but "our employee never showed, and your order isn't filled. So, I don't know what to tell you." Those were her literal words. Sure, this place would definitely not be my first choice for grocery shopping under normal circumstances. But in the virus-related madness that grips contemporary society, I have had the easiest time shopping here. When the line at the nearby Wegmans stretches around the block, there is no wait at Safeway. Sure, their fruits and vegetables aren't the best, but their produce department has never been out of stock for me. The packaged goods are largely the same. Just today I walked in, grabbed a dozen eggs, and breezed through self-checkout in less than three minutes (N.B. Safeway sells a jumbo egg package containing 30 eggs). read more

I moved to the area in January and was so happy to see my favorite grocery store so close to the house. Unfortunately this location continues to disappoint over and over again for different reasons. Most of them has been customer service. Either rude or complete lack thereof. Today it was more of that and was shocked to see some of my favorite dairy products on the shelf at full price that expired 30 days ago. I am moving my prescription somewhere else and will only use Wegmans now. Today was the last straw. read more

I have frequently come to this Safeway plenty of times. Like many of you know it is typical of many grocery stores in that they have a few items not found at other grocery stores. However there is one thing they had on this particular day that you find in many businesses these days and that is poor customer service. On this morning of Monday August 22nd around 530AM I stopped in to pick up some juice for a morning breakfast I was going to have with my coworkers. There was only one line open and an older lady down the aisle was calling out. I really did not pay attention as I had my juice on the belt waiting for it to get scanned so I can pay for it and be on my way. She gets near me and said, "Can you hear me?" I replied yes as she began to tell me she was asking if I needed something. Apparently she was the one and only person operating the one and only register open. I thought the question was comical as I had my items on the conveyor belt so a little detective reasoning would have said I was there to purchase these items. Trust me I know there are those who like to hangout near cash registers early in the morning for thrills but unfortunately on this day I was not the person fitting this criteria. Here is where it went downhill. The attitude she came at me with was ridiculous. Apologies for not hearing you as I was waiting for her to walk tithe register. This is just speculation but it seems like she was mad for having to walk to the register. As I was ringing up I told her I had a rewards card and she seemed perturbed as I gave it to her after she rung up my items by letting out a long sigh. Sorry that I was expecting her to do her job but this was ridiculous. Overall not a bad store but this particular employee completely detracted the good aspect to this store had to offer. read more

Why is this Safeway so dimly lit? Is it to hide the fact that they shelve some of the saddest looking produce in the area? Is it to discourage customers from taking a good look at their overpriced, understocked items? Perhaps to give the whole store an undeservedly pretentious atmosphere? You can get the same things at Shoppers down the street for less, and you don't even need a loyalty card. And where is the discounted day-old bread? I thought that was standard practice among grocery stores... One of the few redeeming qualities is that there is always ample parking and the folks at the deli will happily give you a sample upon request. read more

It is clean and organized. However, there is almost NEVER anyone at the seafood counter and there is no bell. So in the event that there is someone there, they can't see/ hear you if they are in the back preparing meat. This is annoying. I shouldn't have to come up front to customer service and ask for assistance at the back of the store. Do better Safeway. Do better. Get a BELL! read more

From the store director Rena Hardin and the cashier Delores aka Dee is the worse customer service ever. I mean it doesn't make any sense whatsoever!!! With all the competition and the many Safeway closures this store cannot afford to lose customers based on poor customer service. I was returning items that I bought a couple of weeks ago without a receipt. Needless to say, I was treated as if I had stole the items. The store director, Rena admitted to that and it was beyond unacceptable. The fact that she uttered her mouth to say it was disappointing. This store needs serious help!! I am a supervisor for a retail team so I stop in to audit stores as I travel. The entire dairy department was almost empty. I thought I missed something in the weather report but just an everyday Tuesday afternoon here. One manager was frantically running around and the other was outside the entire time. I found some out of date items on the shelf so wanted to help them out by taking it into the dairy cooler but you could not even get 10 feet into the backroom. I don't know what happened but it is bad!!!! I truly hope a DM or GM can get a crew in there to help them. The customers were not happy and I couldn't even hand out coupons because they were out of almost our entire product line!! I had to get the heck out of there!!! read more

I am from the midwest... this place looked like Baker's. Very nice inside. Seemed upscale to me. Organized well. And the staff were very nice. Clean. I liked that the store is dimly lit. Instead of the bright, bright Wal-Mart. Not sure if most of the reviews are negative. I didn't not go to any other grocery stores other than Wal-Mart... so not sure if the other grocery stores are just extremely night and this is the least nice... doubt it tho. I drove past several other stores that were not half as nice on the outside so I couldn't imagine that the inside would be a gem. I did not find the prices to be super overpriced. If I lived here, I'd probably do my shopping here! read more

On 7/29/22 at around 3:30pm, I waited for about 3 minutes at the vacant Safeway customer service counter located at 2644 Chapel Lake Dr., Gambrills, MD 21054 before politely asking the very short thin Caucasian lady standing at the end of the cashier stations if there was someone working at the customer service counter. She turned to me and said, "We are all very busy" then turned back around leaving me to fend for myself. Why didn't she alert the appropriate person that they were needed at the customer service counter? After hearing the awkward response, an older Caucasian employee told me that she herself would put a call in. I thanked her and a short while later, another employee came to assist me. All I wanted was to buy a lottery ticket. I just finished purchasing items from the check-out line and it didn't look busy to me. I'm not sure why she didn't want to provide me with the same level of service that everyone else was getting. My service matters too! Her behavior was very unprofessional and Safeway needs to make her aware that she represents the store while on duty. read more

It is probably not fair to grade down on the Waugh Chapel Safeway for its prices, since the store staff probably have nothing to do with setting them, but I think the prices are super high. I can't wait for the Super Target to open up. Maybe the competition will force Safeway to reduce their prices. In general, the employees are nice enough and the selection is fine. read more

Not actually a 24 hour Safeway. Not very friendly either. Had to pick a few things up before work. The store had a door opened so I walked in, started shopping and one of the women working the night shift walks up time and starts screaming at me. She asked me how I got in and I simply said that the front door was opened..? Thought nothing of it since there is a BIG SIGN that said "Open 24 Hours." So, um, don't try to advertise that you are when you actually aren't. Lady, I get it, we all have bad days, but you don't have to be so rude. Despite that this is close to us, I will wait for Wegmans to open. Convenience will always come second to customer service. I will definitely never return. read more

Their produce is sub-par and so is their deli meat. The Giant and the Wegmans in Crofton are both far superior. The prices aren't even that great. And it is worth noting that for some reason every time I do go here (only out of convenience), they are very busy and seem understaffed. read more

I only go here for the Starbucks, and the service there is adequate. The last pumpkin spiced latte I got was not good. Again, the service is good, they are friendly, and fast. Plenty of parking once you navigate all the cross walks in the shopping center. They accept gift cards. read more

I found this grocery store to have a friendly staff and well-stocked shelves. Once you get used to the layout, everything seemed pretty easy to find. Flower and produce sections appeared fresh and well maintained, too. Sad that only one check out lane was open, but the clerk was pretty fast getting people rung up. Tried to confirm that a prescription had been called in from my wife's doctor. Called the first time to be put on hold for seven minutes before I hung up. Tried again and the same thing happened, though I waited only five minutes before hanging up. Each time, I gave the employee her name and requested that she check for ready prescriptions. I have found the staff to be not so friendly. Cashiers I've noticed are ok. Several items on the shelf are past their expiration date so I check every single time I'm there and have to put at least one thing back for that reason. This review is mainly for the people who work the Starbucks. Beyond rude and unfriendly. Today a young girl didn't even acknowledge me standing waiting to order, then once she did she said be with you in a minute in a mumble so clearly she wasn't thrilled about her job or customer service. While I continued to wait when she wasn't even servicing a customer I noticed she was cleaning or straightening up...who knows. Not sure why she thought I deserved to wait while she got herself together when she could've attended to me first. Finally someone walked behind there and mentioned something about helping the customer. So finally! But still with no smile I finally gave my order. I'm sorry but if you're having a bad day you still need to bring your A-game to work...or if you're just a miserable person then don't have a job in customer service. That's what's wrong now days, people still have a job no matter how unprofessional and inconsiderate they are. This is probably the fifth time out of six that I have been rudely attended to at this Starbucks....IF anyone is even behind the register. They've lost out on money many times before when I have to wait and no one is even behind the stand. I've even seen other customers waiting when no one was even back there. Very poorly run business.
