    Extra meat containers

The meat department adds extra weight to the meat packages and charges meat prices for it. This happens every time I buy meat there. I went in to purchase ground beef, needing four pounds of it. Upon weighing it was was 3.5 pounds. Come to find that the packing added a lot of weight. There were three trays included which added almost five ounces to the package price! Not okay.

Over the years I have stopped & shopped here many times, being born and raised in the Bay Area I know Safeway very well. This is an older Safeway but, extremely clean and well maintained. Store is well stocked with the usual items. Lots of free parking. Good deli selection. The day we stopped customer service was good... Covid protocols being followed, masks being worn, some employees wearing gloves. customers required to wear masks. Clean carts. Social distancing enforced.

Undercooked chicken. Waited forever for deli even though there was only 1 person ahead of me. And why doesn't Safeway ever have white meat baked chicken anymore?

The layout is thoughtfully organized, making it easy to find everything you need without any hassle. One of my favorite things is their selection of local products and specialty foods. From gourmet instant pastas and fresh cinnamon breads to Strauss milk, ice cream, and other delicious treats, there's always something great to discover. I can quickly grab ingredients for a healthy home-cooked meal, which has helped me save money and avoid unnecessary waste from overbuying. They even carry unique items like elk meats and savory jerky for when you're feeling a little adventurous. The meat department is outstanding--the marinated chicken is a must-try, and the beef is always fresh and high quality. And the deli? Hands down one of the best around. Their signature sandwiches are incredible--fresh, flavorful, and made with care. It's the kind of place where you go in for a few items and end up leaving with an amazing sandwich you can't wait to eat. What really sets Spangler's apart is the people. The staff is consistently friendly, helpful, and professional. Their positive attitude makes every visit a great experience. Spangler's truly rocks. I'll definitely be back again and again!

Greenhearts Family Farm - Fresh picked produce!

I'd love to be able to purchase a whole year at a time, especially because I know that that would be a help to their operation. The farm is so much fun and so beautiful. I love when CSA members are invited to pick fruits, veggies, and flowers. They also have a place for kids to play! My only gripe is that when I have tried to get in touch by email I have only received a response about 30% of the time.

Also included blueberries, 2 green peppers, an onion, celery, snap peas, mini romaine lettuce (little gem), romanesco, spinach, and Nantes carrots. Their CSA model is a bit different than others I've tried. Rather than giving you everything from their farm, they source from different local farms. They also deliver which is probably why the price is a bit higher ($44 I think). And the produce seems to be a bit more polished. I mean the carrots and spinach still had dirt, the produce seemed fresh, it clearly still came from a farm. But it was like a smaller cut bunch of spinach tied together, not a huge more wild bunch mostly left alone. Strawberries and blueberries were in plastic boxes. I think the produce visually looked better (and the strawberries were noticeably more fragrant) than other CSA boxes which makes sense. These farms are producing them for Greenhearts which is essentially a distributor or buyer or something so aesthetics playing a bigger role than a farm selling you whatever they have directly makes sense. The produce was all good. But it kind of felt like stuff I could just get from a farmers market or something. The exceptions were maybe the romanesco - very beautiful - and carrots - I don't see the Nantes variety that often in stores and the roasted carrot dish I made was truly exceptional and the sweet carrots were the star. For me, I think I prefer the single farm model more and I don't mind picking up my produce. Given the coordination they have to do and the delivery aspect, I do think the price is probably fair though the quantities are generally pretty moderate. There's also fewer add on options than other CSA models if you care about that. Overall it was a solid box but I did wish there was more of a few items and you do pay a premium for the delivery and the visually nice produce.

We got 3 dozen of fresh oysters, 1 whole crab, 3 lb clams. The clams were just ok. The crab was a little dry. They precooked it, so I know it wasn't fresh. They were honest about how the crab was a year ago, they just freeze it. That should've been the first red flag. We steamed 1 dozen of oysters. We do this all the time. The oysters were no bigger than a quarter and they had a very strong fishy smell, craziest part was there was no flavor at all. We usually get oysters from ranch 99 and put it in the steamer and it is absolutely amazing! We had to skip the other oysters and packed with ice and called them. They simply said to return it and they will give us a refund. Which was great but also disappointing at the same time. Not rating it 1 star because they gave us a refund.
