I was having one of those crisis days, the day before my daughter and her family were coming over for dinner. I couldn't get out to shop due to my caregiver responsibilities and my helper called in sick. I ordered online from Safeway and my order was delivered within hours. I was especially delighted that the Tri Tip roast (the star of my dinner) selected by my shopper was an excellent choice. Best ever, according to my son-in-law. Went shopping on Saturday the week before Thanksgiving. In Safeway's ad on the front page they had frozen turkeys and ham on sale. They were out of both. The ad runs for 9 days. Wednesday through Thursday. It did state while supplies last but to run out after 3 days is unacceptable. When asking if they had more they just said that some of their other stores ran out yesterday. If it had been Wednesday I would have understood as they have to project for the whole ad. Both items have long shelf life. It's the #1 turkey day of the year. Anything not sold could be sold for Christmas, New Years or even Super Bowl. I do have to compliment the cashier up front. She was very nice and but did share that many people were mad. I ended up at Food 4 Less to do my shopping. read more

I normally love Safeway as my go to grocery store even at my other place in Boise I shop at their parent company Albertsons, but the vibe of this one doesn't do it for me. First turn off is every time I go to this location I am being either harassed in the parking lot or at the front door for money or something. Literally 1 mile down the street at Raley's totally different vibe. Quality is never an issue and always get what I came for, but service kinda stinks to be honest. They lock up a ton of stuff which is also annoying and then when you push the button to get an employee it can take what feels like an eternity to get someone to come over. On my last visit I watched 3 employees just chit chat while their radio is telling them I needed help getting laundry pods unlocked. Plus don't even get me started on trying to buy liquor here. Like I said 1 mile away totally different vibe and it's where I tend to spend my money. read more

People in the food department are absolutely absurd. Not listening to simple requests on how to put together a sandwich causing me and my wife to leave the establishment without a purchase. Kelly started off making them with extreme attitude in the beginning of our encounter. Once she began assisting us, she started tossing the items being put in the sandwich, some landing on the cutting board, which she picked up and threw back in to the sandwich. After being asked to provide us different assistance, she (Kelly) proceeded to go speak with another associate on the other side of the bar. In plain sight, the associate was seen chuckling as Kelly explained the situation. Visibly LAUGHING about what had just occurred. If I could rate this store a 0, I would without hesitation. The manager Kelce was nowhere to be found. 0/10. Both associates we encountered today would have been fired under my supervision based on poor customer service. read more

When we checked out at this safeway, i asked the cashier (Alex) to split the payment. I wanted $195 on the first card. She seemed like she was having a difficult time doing it. I tapped my card and she kept telling me it shouldnt have me doing anything if i tap. It got canceled. She redid it. I tapped my card again and she handed me the receipt and said youre all set. I asked her, you charged me for all of it? She said yea it cancelled the first time and i forgot to do it this time, like she didnt care what i asked for in the first place. This woman was careless and didnt offer to cancel and redo it, just said youre all set. Not to mention the bagger was so focused on our son that she didnt listen to us tell her we didnt want the milk bagged. Let's just say the lack of employees is very telling about this location! I was coming in for a little treat at 7:55pm. As I walk up to the door an employee was shutting and locking the door yet they are open till 12am! This employee decided to leave one door open before locking it and decided to shout at me from across the street "hurry up, hurry up, come on" there were maybe 5 customers in the store and all this employee was doing was standing at self check out talking shit about their coworkers! I ran into Safeway this morning around 5am. I had a handful of things and when I got up to the registers there was no one there. There were no lights on so I didn't know where to set my stuff down. An employee saw me and called for checkout and no one came. A few mins later he apologized and called again. Still no one came up. Some woman came out of the office and said to set my stuff on checkstand 2 but she still didn't help me. After another min or so an older lady named ANNA came up to the register. She is the most unfriendly person I've ever encountered. She didn't apologize to me for the wait or even say good morning. She said nothing to me. Just had an attitude like she didn't want to be there. There was a couple behind me who said they shop there every week and that she does the same to them. I just don't think I should have to wait over 5 mins for someone to check me out when I'm one of 2 customers in the whole store. read more

Cashiers are not customer service oriented at all. Most of the time they don't even say hello or thank you which was again the case. Ask question they continue to scan without replying. Go back because near my home but will try to find somewhere else $80+ dollars every couple of days for 2 bags of groceries and can't even get any courtesy. The woman who runs the sushi bar is a whack job!!! Apparently it's not a Safeway employee. However when I was scanning in sushi products for a customer I was shopping for this woman jumped over the counter and proceeded to scream at me saying I'm ruining her products lol! Nothing was out of place or even remotely affected by me flipping it over. It's packed so tight it doesn't even move. She was literally screaming like a loon. I said Are you crazy wtf is wrong with you? She got in my face and threatened me. Then her big coworker stood in front of the sushi and put his arms out and said Don't touch the sushi!!! I started laughing cause it was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I said Wow you people are out of your effing mind. This is hilarious. She said I'm the only one who flips it to scan it. I asked other coworkers. They said they all flip it too. They said that woman is a wacko. Agreed. Customer service at my job started also laughing when I told them what happened. They said she sounds nuts. Someone should go in there and flip all of it over one night. She'd prob have a meltdown. I don't usually shop at Safeway, but there are a few things I go there for occasionally. Their fruit, especially the cut fruit bowls that are three for $12, are excellent. That's what I went into the store today to purchase. It was right before lunch so I figured I would order a deli sandwich too. Big sign says $8.99 and it listed several different sandwiches. I ordered the Italian. Surprisingly, the bread selection was very limited, but I made my choice. Once the sandwich was made, I was asked if there was anything else I wanted on it. I noticed there was no spinach, which is listed in the ingredients in the Italian sandwich. So, I told her that I would like that also. Her comment... "We don't currently have spinach over here right now." You're in Safeway. I just came from the produce department and they have everything you could possibly need over there. How do you run out of ingredients? But, I told her that it was fine as is and she wrapped it up. I paid for it and two other items in the deli department and didn't really pay attention until I got outside and noticed the sandwich she made was a foot-long. She cut it in half like I would've expected her to, but apparently Safeway considers that to be 2 sandwiches! Im assuming a 6 inch is $8.99 as I was charged a whopping $18... Yes $18 for a deli sandwich. But, the sandwich was made, so what could I do? When I got home to have lunch, I bit into the sandwich and pulled out a long string of a plastic like material that is wrapped around the pepperoni, much like the casing on a salami. It was on every piece of pepperoni in the sandwich. I had to go through and pull the casing off all of it. The sandwich was also extremely dry and tasteless. I could only eat very little of it. All in all, this was the most expensive and by far the worse deli sandwich I've ever had anywhere. I don't like writing one star reviews. Usually, I would let it go and just not return. But... $18! With the exception of the ham and salami that I took out of the sandwich to give to the dog, I threw the rest of it in the garbage. I won't be returning to buy sandwiches at Safeway. Too many great sandwich shops/delis around and I could've gotten a foot-long most other places for half the price. read more

I don't know what it is about Safeway compared to other stores in the area, but I feel like I just get better produce at cheaper prices. Of course, I've never sat down and did the math to check but it's just my personal feeling. I love the meat selection at Safeway, they have more of a selection, and their prepared dinner options always seem to be on point when I need them. I know it always seems to be busy but that's for a good reason. The staff is always so helpful, and the store has never been dirty. They have a large selection of local wines which save me a trip out to the winery itself. Overall, I think this a great store and I'm happy to show here anytime. read more

This store does not even deserve a 1 star! Tried the online pickup because we normally use Raley's but decided to try Safeway. The cherries we got were inedible and the meat that we received was the last day it could be sold, didn't notice until two days later when pulling out of the fridge to cook. Threw that away! Between the meat and cherries $20 in the garbage. They also overcharged me by $135.69 since the shopper double charged me (it actually cleared my bank account - not just a pending charge). I had to call Safeway customer service and I now have to wait 3 - 5 business days for a refund. I will never shop at this store again! read more

If you do not bag your own groceries, you have to wait until the checkout clerk is finished and then starts bagging. Last week the clerk never attempted to bag our groceries. Went in yesterday with a group of friends to get sandwiches at the deli. It was 5 of us and there were already 2 people in front of us in the deli line. We waited almost 20 full minutes for the person making the sandwiches (not gonna name names) to make TWO sandwiches before even getting to our group so we were already annoyed and impatient by the time he got to us. Then, I kid you not, it took about 40 minutes to complete our sandwiches. 40 minutes to make 5 sandwiches. And we didn't even get anything extravagant. I could've climbed back there and made them myself in probably 10 minutes....i almost wanted to ask if there was a reason he was moving so slow. And then he didn't even pick up on us being annoyed. Not to mention my screaming baby who was tired of sitting in the cart by this point. And he just kept on moving at snails pace. Good thing we weren't in a rush to get somewhere. Who ever they've been hiring here needs to be evaluated. I walk into the store with a baby in tow, and big diaper bag, there's a worker in my way between myself and the carts and he stands in my way texting on his phone.. I'm sitting there waiting for him to move so I can put my 21 pound daughter in the seat of the cart, and he watches me trying to pull the shopping cart out of the other shopping cart with one arm, I don't have two arms to physically separate them like what is occasionally needed when they stick together. He sees me sitting there struggling, and he doesn't offer to help me or anything.? Just stares blankly at me, like it just didn't click in his mind that maybe that might be a nice thing for him to do. Every single mango that they had out on display was way too soft, but I figured it would still be good-why else would they leave every single mango out if they were all bad ... right?
