This Safeway location is newer, but is also surprisingly clean and well maintained inside. The shelves are well stocked, and organized. I came in on a mission with a list, and a friendly staff member stocking shelves helped direct me to what I was missing and couldn't find. Their meat department had lots of good deals, and a surprising amount of grass fed meat options, which I'm not used to finding at Safeway. The parking lots a bit tight if you're in a larger vehicle, so keep that in mind. But, overall a great experience for a Safeway! read more

01/05/2025- Safeway Pharmacy. This pharmacy is way better than the CVS Pharmacy that I used to go to. Rarely a wait and never a long wait. Have only waited with 1 person before me when there was a wait. Staff and Pharmacist are always friendly and helpful. So far my favorite pharmacist is Vinny. He always seems to be in a good mood and smiling when he greats and assists you. I have received several vaccinations here and the room is always clean. read more

This store really needs to do better, It started off great but has rapidly declined. Given that this is the only grocery store in town it appears that management think that it's ok to sell sub par goods whereas in fact they really need to up their game. I would much rather drive the extra 5 miles to Winco and get better quality for less $$ than come here. It has become a regular (weekly) thing to get spoiled fresh produce from here along with seeing Dairy items as much as 6 weeks out of date still on the shelves. I can't even calculate how much money I've wasted on trash from here - Moldy Avocados, Strawberries, Blueberries, Melons, defrosted and refrozen Ice Cream, the list goes on. I literally only come here for the occasional weekly deal now because otherwise it's just not worth it. Do better Safeway. read more

Very disappointing experience with the bakery at the Safeway in Mountain House. I placed a cake order online for an event, based on the designs and availability shown on Safeway's website. After waiting a full day, I received a text message saying my order was canceled, with zero explanation and no prior communication. When I called the bakery to ask what happened and what alternatives were available, the interaction only got worse. The employee was rude and dismissive. She told me they couldn't make the design, then said she doesn't even know what designs they offer. When I asked what could be done, I was told they "aren't doing designs," and that even if they do make some, she wouldn't tell me which ones. Canceling a bakery order by text without explanation is already unacceptable -- but the attitude and refusal to provide basic information afterward made it clear customer service is not a priority at this location. This was a time-sensitive order, and I was left scrambling because of their lack of communication and professionalism. I've shopped at Safeway for years, but this experience was shocking. Management seriously needs to address how customers are treated at this store. read more

This is by far the cleanest Safeway I've been to. The manager Vidal is a little hard on his employees, but for good reason! He ensures the store is clean and his employees are busy. Good! Some employees that stand out to me is the night manager Paul! Another manager Pooja who is super friendly and always makes my mom and I laugh. Maria is super awesome and hilarious! Dominic who works in the food area has always been super kind to me. Always has a smile on his face. Jorge in the produce department is so kind. He will always put a smile on your face. My family moved to the area a few months ago. To date, we have shopped at this Safeway location once a week. The experience has never been exceptional but today was as uncomfortable as it could get. It's bad enough we are subjected to paying high prices. You would think they would at least try to deliver okay customer service... but...no...today my husband and I went through the checkout stand and encountered a checker clearly hating his job. He we unfriendly, rude, and his face expression told an unpleasant story. I mean, simple customer service is to greet, smile and say hello to the customer. He did absolutely none of the above. Even when I said, thank you at the end of the transaction, he didn't even have the decency to look at me and say you're welcome. Safeway, just in case you forgot , customer service goes a long way. I visit my mom in Mountain House a couple times a month, and I was honestly skeptical about shopping at Safeway here--coming from Oakland, I expected high prices. But this location consistently surprises me with great deals, fresh produce, short lines, and super kind employees. Today, I want to give a big shoutout to Camméo (yes, with two M's!) who I've seen making amazing drinks at the in-store Starbucks and now running the register like a pro. She was so patient with me as I scanned items one by one to stay on budget and figure out the app deals. I visited this location on Thursday September 26 @ around 3:30 as I do every time I pick him up from school every day. I can't tell you how the food taste because the server never came over to serve me even when the guy in the Chinese food department called him over there. He ignored me and went to the back. His response was OK. I can see. After standing there for a few more minutes, he went to the back at this time. I started getting frustrated so it was best for me to walk away. I requested to talk to a manager, but One never came out or said anything to me regarding the situation so I left. I've had multiple issues buying meats that say are freshly packaged and the meat is bad. I've also experienced being charged regular price on items that are on sale. Consistently, I have to take pictures of the sale prices and go back once I inspect the receipt to get my money back. Once it happened to me when buying wines and the manager in customer service refused to give me the up charge in tax that was supposed to be returned to me just to not have to do the extra math. Horrible. They scan the items so fast and some times don't even help you bag them if you bring your own bags! This is by far the most cleanest Safeway I have ever been to. 99 percent of the workers are always respectful and very helping.... But there is always that one... Her name is Nicole and she has terrible attitude for absolutely no reason. When asking her for help, her energy towards me and her rolling her eyes at me was frustrating because I did nothing wrong but ask for help. But what's crazy is this isn't the first time that I have encountered her attitude. I was thrilled that they build a Safeway here in Mountain house so much closer than driving to Tracy. Anywho they need to hire more people lines are long only 2 cashiers open sometimes and food items that are moldy or that are expired! I took home a pie and it was expired! Fantastic new Safeway so clean and new and not crowded I was able to take my time and go up and down each aisle that I wished with no issues no one was in the way no carts left unattended they were stocking some new valentine. Merchandise so there were a few carts in that aisle full of items to be stocked on the shelves otherwise everything was on the shelf's unless they were out. The only items I saw out were in the pharmacy area cold meds were low and empty shelves which is the normal everywhere now a days Meat area was good plenty of selections, the freezer sections were fully loaded with all the snacks and food you want. The deli section was great they had all my favorite lunch meats and everyone knew what they were doing no issues asking for my lunch meats which I always encounter at other stores. ATTN PHARMACY DEPT: To the nasty old pharmacy tech who always has an attitude. Went to pick up my prescription at this Mountain House Safeway and my total was $150 at the time of check out. I had a rx card my dr gave me to get a little discount on my prescription. They told me they have to resubmit my ex again since im using that card. Ok, that's fine. The pharmacy tech came back to me and told me after submitting my rx card for my prescription, it comes out to $700. Are you out of your mind. Does this make any sense??? This nasty old geezer cames back to tell me, you knew it was going to be expensive, we order this for you. My reply, understood but how the F*** did it go to $150 to $700? It doesn't make sense. First off, if you are going to work in as a pharmacy tech, get your shi$ together and have some respect. Don't come of like you're the pharmacy Queen. I'm sooo freaking happy that we have the convenience of having a Safeway in our community finally! The store itself is beautiful, bright, & clean. But the downside is that there are some bugs that need to be ironed out for the store to be perfect, & I'm sure they will get there. The Deli has the tendency to allow food, chicken, potato wedges, etc. to sit in the food warmers for far too long. My last time in Deli I purchased what I thought was teriyaki wings. I asked the clerk, "are these teriyaki wings? She said yes," then I asked for a small coleslaw, they didn't have any (no coleslaw in a deli?!) But they did find me a small coleslaw, that was about to expire the next day. When I got home, I realized it wasn't teriyaki wings, they were barbecue wings. Most of the heated food looks dried out from sitting in the warmers, & inedible. And some of the fresh produce, looks past due also, it's wilted, dried out, & about to go bad. As far as customer service, everyone bends over backwards to help you. This store hasn't been open even a year, so I have no doubt that they will eventually fix all that is wrong. Went to self checkout and the person that watches over that area asked me if I minded giving 10/10 on the survey that shows up for customer service. I was about to say, sure I'll give you a good review, but before I had a chance to even respond she just went ahead and submitted the review. Felt it was kind of rude to ask to begin with, but then you kind of forced my review without my permission. I didn't want to make a big deal so I didn't say anything, but didn't appreciate that. Pros: Proximity. Gas station. Cons: Shopping cart carousel is an accident waiting to happen. Carts roll out on their own to parked vehicles. A lot of items were past or close to their best before date. Limited baked goods selection and not as freshly baked. Deli is lacking as well. Chinese food particularly, had been sitting too long in the warmer that they were too tough to eat. Seems they have lesser inventory than Tracy branch. read more

For all the great employees and the beautiful floral section I would love to give this Safeway all the stars. Unfortunately it should be sued for selling contaminated food and miss labeling allergies. I bought cupcakes for my birthday off the gluten free shelf and ate two before I realized and read the ingredients. First ingredient WHEAT FLOUR!!! (see pictures they won't let me upload video) I was in the bathroom for two days and spent my birthday sick as a dog. If I was anaphylactic allergic I could have died. Instead I will be lucky if I can go back to work this week and will be two weeks before I'm back to myself again. A week prior to this incident I bought a bag of organic avocados. After getting home and opening the net bag I found every single avocado had not only gone bad but there were maggots everywhere and inside the avocados. I did not get pics or video of the maggots I was too grossed out and willing to excuse it as a fluke. I will be documenting everything from here on out. They know they are the only grocery store in town and therefore can be the highest price grossest Safeway ever and people will still shop there. Once again I will say the employees I have met and the floral section are the best of the best and deserve all the stars. read more

I have been going to Safeway to have a deli sandwich for years at lunch time. We went to counter at 12:45 only 2 people we're working in the deli section helping customers at lunch time seemed odd, went up to order sandwich and I ordered sliced sourdough like I always do she tells me she can't make me a sandwich because she is out of sourdough! Can you believe Safeway dose not have sourdough bread? A new store ? Well I elected to go somewhere right across the parking lot to Sour dough and company they just opened up had a great sandwich and was happy to pay for the fantastic sandwich I received. I was super excited to finally get supermarket here in Mtn House, but between me and my girlfriend, we've been overcharged at least 10 times at this Safeway. Sometimes only $6 but up to $50. And in this economy this is a big deal. The store has been open since last December so they've had about eight months to figure things out. I pointed it out numerous times but they still don't seem to be doing anything about it unless you're lucky enough to catch it and ask for your money back. And everyone knows Safeway prices are already not the best. Super disappointing. Check your receipts people!!! read more
