As someone who is Mexican American and doesn't speak Spanish fluently, shopping here can honestly feel uncomfortable at times. A lot of the staff automatically assume you speak Spanish, and it's actually pretty rare to find someone working who speaks English well enough to help. Sometimes it feels like it's inconvenient for the staff when you don't speak Spanish, which shouldn't be the case at all. I also found expired cat food while shopping and placed it to the side thinking someone would remove it, but when I came back two weeks later it was STILL sitting there expired. That was really concerning. Another frustrating change is the checkout process. It used to be convenient being able to buy beans, rice, and groceries all together, but now everything has to be done in separate transactions and separate lines, which just makes shopping take longer for no reason. I still go occasionally when I absolutely have to, but honestly if I find somewhere closer and more welcoming, I'd rather shop there instead. read more

Tucked inside the La Plaza market is their food counter. Definitely better than a taco truck with loads to choose from. There's always a bit of a lunch rush, but it's not too bad. Seems like there's always some special going on. But most of the signage is in spanish. Just ask at the ordering counter....they'll let you know. Prices aren't too bad. But their "specials" are usually pretty good prices. Their Taco Tuesdays are popular and they have a taco special that goes from Saturday to Tuesday if I remember correctly. I used to ask hubby to get 2 bc I wanted one all for myself. :) I remember when they were $4 and change a couple years ago. Employees that I encountered were friendly and helpful. The store is clean but a bit noisy with the music playing. Wish they had the option of packaged meats and not just the meat counter. Sometimes, they have preseasond chicken legs packaged, which are very good. Not everything that is listed on their weekly sales ads are marked. Which makes it tough to shop the Sale Items Only, if you're on a budget. Also, not everything is marked that can be bought with an EBT card. So their policy of all sales are final can be complicated to buy the correct EBT only items. Better tags/markings are needed for EBT items. I did see a couple of items tagged for WIC purchases. Normally, I don't grocery shop here due to higher prices than other local grocery stores, but it's the closest to where I live and when I don't have time to go to other farther stores. read more

OK, first of all let me say I've been to this store many times in the past and every time I go to this place mostly for their food court area where they have the best foods pretty much anything you can think of is really great. I went here yesterday to buy a bunch of burritos for my guys on the strike line at Amazon and the food was really good always great service plenty of people helping you. I love going to this market. We recently just moved to Tracy from Florida. They have great selections of meat, seafood, fruits, and vegetables. I really like their marinated meat sections and they are all cheap and affordable. I got their pastor meat and chorizo for $9 to make tacos for 2 and it was very delicious. Their fruits and vegetables are expensive compared to other store. I was looking to buy strawberries on one of my trip there and it didn't look fresh so I didn't get them. If you are looking for specialty Hispanic food items, this is a place to get them. I also like their small restaurant inside the grocery. They have so many food items to choose from. I will go there for my Mexican food craving. Definitely recommend the place if you are looking for specialty store where you can get unique items. read more

Been here a few times, but my review is of the supermarket, not the food court. This place has a little b it of everything...they have good priced meats and fresh fruits and produce on top of the regular grocery items. The place is very clean and well organized. It's a good alternative even for Asian people like us since our usual go-to is Ranch 99 or Seafood City, both of which aren't available in Tracy. But we're Filipino so we blend in pretty well . We enjoy walking around checking out all the items, especially the snacks. We've been wanting to try the food court but haven't gotten around to it, but the food looks pretty good. A plus for this place is it's in the same shopping center as La Michoacana Plus ice cream shop, and Tracy's very own Arby's (fun fact: it's a rare sight for Bay Area People)! So you can stop by for dessert break or a good meal at Arby's after a good walking around from grocery shopping. read more

This place is an absolute GEM. I absolutely LOVE La Plaza! Especially during Covid, it is such a bonus having such an amazing carniceria near by to have access to. I cannot find a decent taco joint in Tracy and this place offers OPTIONS! They have a full deli that makes tacos, tortas, burritos and another section where they offer dishes such as chile verde, chile relleno, shimp cocktails and so much more. Their salsas are on point and always flavorful. The quality of the food in my opinion is very authentic Mexican cuisine, very similar to how I cook. Their meat department saves me anytime I have a craving for a quick meal. I can pick up a couple of pounds of carne asada, salsa and guac and its on! My guilty pleasure from La Plaza are their carnitas from the deli. They are crisp and flavorful, and I absolutely love them! I literally can pick up everything I need for my tacos too; radishes, green onions, chilies, tomatoes, you name it! If I'm making a pozole, La Plaza is my one stop shop! They also have a cheese deli where they offer cheeses, sauces, creams and various sausage links; the Salvadorian variety is a family favorite. Their tortilla department and bakery are usually pumping out goodies like a well oiled machine. They have actual groceries and spices as well. This review was going to be a generous three-star review until my interaction with Antonio at La Plaza. Although I have only shopped at this store a handful of times, my most recent trip will most definitely be my last. Each year for the holidays, we pick a different cuisine for our family holiday meal. This year, for Easter, we choose street tacos. I visited La Plaza on Thursday, April 6th to shop for the ingredients for the upcoming Sunday dinner; tomatillos, cilantro, jalapeños, tortillas, "bone-in" pork butt, etc. On Sunday, after our normal Easter traditions were wrapping up, I begun prepping for our holiday meal; peeling the tomatillos, chopping the cilantro, and gathering my seasonings for the meat. I pulled the meat out of the refrigerator, took it out of the plastic shopping bag, and noticed a rancid odor. I thought surely the smell isn't coming from the meat I had just purchased, so I started opening the doubled-bagged meat that it was weighed in at the store. I hadn't gotten to the second bag when I realized the rotten smell was, in fact, coming from the newly purchased meat. Initially I was upset because I hadn't thought of a backup plan for dinner. I figured I would quadruple bag it and put it in our second refrigerator in the garage so I could return it the next day. This morning, I call the store and tell them the situation with the meat. The lady who answered the phone said as long as I have the receipt, I can return it. I thought, Ok, no big deal. I grabbed the receipt and proceeded to drive into Tracy to return the meat. When I arrive at the store, I tell the only employee that I could find that I had called the store a little bit ago about a return. She was operating the cashier but had Antonio help me out. He asks what the problem was and I explained the situation. After some time, he took the bagged meat from me, and placed it on the conveyor belt of an unused check-out lane and asked for the receipt. I handed him the receipt and he proceeded to compare the receipt with the bagged meat. He starts patting down the meat and squeezing it from the outside of the bag. Not sure why, but okay. Antonio turns to me and said, "so what were you making?" Even though I felt it was none of his business what I was going to make, I told him I was going to make street tacos. Again, he looks over at me and says, "with bone-in meat? You don't make tacos with bone in meat!" At first I thought he was joking but realized he was serious. I chuckled and said, "what? I can't make tacos with bone-in meat?" and he says "no, no you can't". I was shocked by what he was saying, but at the same time it was a bit entertaining. He obviously has no idea what he was talking about lol. I ended the conversation by briefly explaining that using bone-in meat adds flavor. Hey Antonio, if you're reading this...you might want to educate yourself on using bone-in meat so that you aren't misleading your customers. Let's just say La Plaza lost another customer. I would have given this store another chance, but with the unprofessional and rude comments from Antonio, I will not be returning. read more

So I met a lady while shopping in Costco who told me about this local Mexican supermarket who had the best hot food. She also told me that the store itself was very big and clean. So being that Tuesday was right around the corner of course I had to make a trip to Tracy to try out their Taqueria for taco Tuesday. While there I did find myself shopping around the store for necessary items and also visited the bakery, meat market, produce sections. When I first walked and I didn't notice there was a lady selling pupusa's which I love!! I'm not sure how often this is there maybe it's permanent who knows but I will have to try that next visit. Now back to the tacos OMG! I ordered 10 Carne Asada tacos (for me and my family) with everything on the side including jalapeños and has onions which were $1.50 more. At first bite and I loved them! I added some red salsa which is very spicy and also a little bit of green mild salsa to give it an extra kick. Now I wish I would've asked for more salsa LOL! The price of the tacos were $2.75 each with 50% off for taco Tuesday which to me is still a good deal at $1.37 each. If you're looking for really good tacos for taco Tuesday this is the place to be they also had a large area with other Hot foods that I will have to try out next time. read more

This is a fun place to visit with a little bit of everything. There is a Papusa stand as you enter where the staff makes fresh Papusas to order. The pork Papusa was fantastic with a hefty amount of tender and tasty filling compared to other Papusa places. To the right of the Papusa stand is a clothing / jewelry /toy stand and a flower section. Behind these stands is a food court with a great selection of fresh items to order. The store has a great variety of everything they carry. An example of this is the cremas. There are 4 options with the equivalent of Crema Mexican being the best. We also ordered the Walnut Yogurt, which was like eating dessert it was so tasty. There is a bakery stand in the back and several other stands in the store with grocery aisles in the middle. The store is large compared to a Chavez Market for instance. One stop shopping for all your shopping needs. The only negative were the avocados, all of which turned out to be rotten once opened. There's a couple of these stores in SJ, but it's kind of a drive to eat there during lunch. Now that they have one in Tracy, I'm down to get some food when I'm craving their tacos. With Costco, Super Walmart, Winco, and the Safeways/Nob Hill, Food Maxx had to close their doors due to stiff competition. The shoppers there are 99% hispanic so the transition to a Mi Pueblo was almost seamless and ideal. I had to go by and pick up a few cases of Crystal Geyser water since they had a case of it for $2.50. The parking lot was as full as I've ever seen it. It looked like a swap meet today when I went complete with the meat grilling in the lot. There was so many people there eating and shopping there that they had to do some cooking outside to keep up with the demand. After I ordered my tacos, this one dude came up to me and asked if the food was free. He may have mistaken this for the food shelter. Nothing's free in life buddy. Even "free" at Costco comes after you pay for the membership. They have a huge assortment of meats, salsas, and drinks. It's really like little Mexico here. Love it. I'm sure shoppers are like "who's this Chino?" Cuidado Senor--este Chino hablo Espanol pequito. In the meat dept, they had fresh cracked oysters off the shell that they grilled on a small electric grill for 99 cents. I would have tried it but the line was too long. The bakery is almost irresistible with fresh baked bread and pastries. My fav is the macroons.
