I can't understand why there are so many Yelpers whining about this location. It gets busy sometimes but the staff is always ready to help. This store does not have many cashiers available 24/7 and that makes sense since it's not that big and usually 2 lines are usually more than enough. That being said, whenever it gets busy someone comes to help and one or two more lines become available right away. Everyone should stop whining and appreciate the amazing staff who work at this store, after all, if you do not like it then you can go somewhere else. End of story. read more

Grew up going this Safeway before I moved out of Pacifica. It is nice to see that this place has been remodeled and updated. It seems more presentable now when I come here. From the deli to the flowers to the produce you can see how much effort was put into making this Safeway better. In having not come to this Safeway in over 10 years it is very refreshing to see how well maintained this place has been kept. I would have to safe that even the staff's personality and attitude is a reflection of the remodel as well. This is the closest Safeway to my house and I love that they remodeled and now has a Starbucks inside. I still prefer this store over Lucky at Fairmont Center; however nothing bothers me more than expired groceries still on the shelves. I've encountered this on multiple times so finally felt the need to yelp this concern. Prime example - Yoplait yogurt, many of which had expiration dates in early to mid Dec and I was there yesterday, Dec 30. Same with the bags of shredded lettuce - expiration of Dec 20, still on the shelf. From now on, I think I will just venture down the coast to the Linda Mar Safeway as that one is much better! read more

I enjoy this Safeway! It's small, so lines are always short compared to the bigger stores. There's easy parking, and I never have to park more than a few spots away from the front of the store. It's on my way home from work and it's right off the freeway, so I can always get in and out quickly. My only complaint is that I wish there was a gluten-free section, as I have Celiac disease and their gluten-free food is a little scattered throughout the store. They don't carry some products from the brands I normally get (Udi's breakfast bars & frozen dinners, Annie's granola bars & bunny cookies, etc.), but they do carry a variety of gluten-free breads, bagels, cereals, pastas, pizzas, etc. I noticed the store at Linda Mar has a lot more gluten-free snacks and frozen foods, but I can still find many of the necessities here. Five stars for Veronica who helped me carry out a case of water bottles to my car (after telling my cashier that I had spinal reconstruction surgery a year ago and can't lift it myself). She was very pleasant and happy to help :) read more

Hello I just want the management at Safeway manor to know what a great employee they have in produce. Her name is Tammy and she is just very happy all the time and extremely helpful. She'll drop whatever she is doing so she can assist you with what ever you need. Always a smile and a personable comment makes all shoppers feel special which Tammy does consistently. Rude employees always with an attitude on there faces. The older Asian lady on the register always gives here customers a weird look, never speaks to you even if you say "Hi", and every time smashes customers groceries against the border of the check stand. I recommend visiting Linda Mar Safeway location over this one because of the customer experience, quality and freshness of food, and variety of food choices. Ooh the Safeway Gods must've heard us!!! B/c Manor Safeway is almost done with their renovating! There's even a Starbuck's inside. The produce aisle definitely looks more spacious! The deli area is rather fancy, I like it. The meat and ice cream aisles still look the same. But the exterior definintely got a face lift. I went in tonight though and there were only 2 registers open. WTF? Apparently everyone had the same idea as me and they were back to school shopping too. Oh man I swear I stood in line for over 10 minutes and I started at the back of the store over by the yogurts. The 15 items or less line was no better reaching to the pastries. But with the facelift I'll definitely be shopping at this Safeway b/c it's closer and not driving to Pak N Save just for the aesthetics of it all. Lol. read more

I just walked out of there. I wanted some alcohol out of the locked case. The sign says find a free clerk and they will get you what you want. Only problem, you have to walk the store for 10 minutes to try to find someone free. I finally got someone out of customer service, but then he tells me I have to go to the cashiers to get the key. He works in produce and that's not his job. After going back and forth, I said I wanted to talk to the manager. He walks me up to the front and the manager is working a cashier lane with only one customer. He proceeds to tell me he'll get it for me when he finishes with this customer. What, I've been looking around for10 minutes, now I have to wait for this guy to finish when the clerk was right there. I walked out leaving everything in my cart. Obviously, customer service has 0 priority in this store. When I got home I realized I had left my grocery bags. Another 10 minutes wasted waiting for someone to answer the phone. The store manager went into excuse and lie mode. I had him put my bags aside and then I asked if he went back and checked the sign. He said yeah, that it said you need to go to the customer service desk... I stopped him right there and told him he was lying, because he was either making up his own sign in his mind or he didn't check. He also said how crowded it was. Again, a lie. Crowded! I had just walked the store for 10 minutes and maybe saw 6 customers in the store besides me and it was so crowded that I would have been the next person he checked out! Amazingly he says he's only had 2 complaints, mine included, since March when took over store. I said to him that was pretty incredible, because 60% (2 stars) of Yelp customers are disappointed with your store. Don't waste your time here! read more

Lots of parking, not too many people, and Clover milk. I'm a big fan of Clover milk so it was pretty neat that they had it in stock. They did not, however, have an issue of Better Homes & Gardens, which made me a bit cross. It's not their fault, I guess. I can't seem to find it anywhere else. This is the closest grocery store - I dislike it greatly. Its constantly out of something - milk (yes even that), my favorite soda, you name it usually I swing in while on my way home and this place is out of it. Ugg... Then let's discuss the checker situation - did the remodel consider maybe adding more than 4 check out lanes - there is always a line - 7 am, 7 pm, even 12 midnight - I wait and wait and wait. I have resolved at times of just going to the 7 Eleven to pick up certain things just to not deal with Safeway's issues. I still hold out hope - now that everything is all sparkling and new can you please start to renovate your structure and ordering? Please? I would really appreciate it! read more

UPDATE September 13, 2009. Apparently I'm not allowed more than one "update," therefor I will update within the previous one. They've darn near fixed the place. I'm speechless. Gobsmacked as they say in England. I see no more, or precious little, of the grumbly staff. I see fresh faces in management. I "sense" whatever that means, that the mental health of staff is better. Somebody's actually managing the store with some skill and attention. Today I returned two hours after a bit of shopping, hoping to find my iPod earphones that probably dropped off my neck during check-out. They weren't to be found - no big. But what DID surprise me was the lengths to which the young assistant manager, or manager in training, went to make sure he'd covered all the options. (Not sure even I would have gone so far...) He went zooming around the place, checking each office and lost and found spot. Then he zoomed back to his tiny manager's office and started running security footage of the checkout stands when I was there. Awesome. And quite cool actually. As I stood at the door, minding boundaries and giving him some privacy, he said "Oh I see you. They're around your neck - you want to look? It's ok." (Wow). Alas, the little earphones must have fallen off between bagging and van. As bummed as I was about that inconvenience, I was totally impressed by this kid manager. Dear kid manager: I'm a dolt. I forgot your name. Dear Safeway: Kid manager (very grown up attitude though) was working about 7/7:15pm on Sunday September 13, 2009. Do NOT let this guy go. He's single-handedly rebuilding your brand in the hearts and minds of shoppers in northern Pacifica. You can't buy publicity that has the effect of one gracious, well trained fellow who takes his job seriously, and genuinelyl wants to help you out. This place needs to address the expired perishables issue immediately. This place is full of expired products that will probably end up killing someone. Mold bread and expired dairy are one of a few incidences I've had in the past couple of months. I don't know if it was a coincidence or if Yelp is really that powerful, but they have REALLY changed their tune with the cashiers since I wrote that review. So much so that I don't think it could be a happy accident. A couple weeks after my last review I was in there and there were only two cashiers up front. A line started to form and the guy ringing me up very quickly phoned the back and told them it was getting busy and two new cashiers came out and started ringing people up. So kudos to the Manor Safeway for going the extra mile to improve the shopping experience at their store. At the end of a long busy day, the last thing one wants to do before going home to make dinner is spend a ridiculously long time in line at the checkout. They've definitely earned another star- I hope they keep it up! read more

The only good thing about this Safeway is that it's convenient for a quick shopping trip after the gym (I go to the 24-hour nearby). And it has a Starbucks inside. Fresh produce is slim pickings most of the time, and the shelves are rarely stocked. Please get a face lift Safeway on Manor Drive in Pacifica. It doesn't need to be a huge endeavor (perhaps I'm naive), and nothing fancy, just brighten it up a little, you know what I mean??? I dread looking at this particular branch... BUT, alas, I've found a 'diamond in the rough' so to speak! When Party City told me they couldn't fill 12 pink princess balloons by 11a.m. on a Saturday morning, it was a MAJOR dilemma! I walked in to this Safeway's floral department and for 25 cents each, they inflated all 12 balloons in roughly 15 - 20 minutes total, complete with ribbons, bundled with 3 balloon weights to hold them down. Score! And for about $8 you can purchase a balloon bouquet (one Mylar foil balloon with five other balloons - color(s) of your choice) *great for a last minute gift on a small budget but a pretty big impact - office gift anyone!? Downside is service may be iffy if there are other customers requiring the attention of the one employee in this department, but just plan accordingly (plus, that's the price I paid for last minute helium-hunting). Also, they employ individuals with developmental disabilities who receive job coaching services from the nonprofit organization, Community Gatepath. Now, that's giving back to the community, in my humble opinion. read more

Wow, people really have it out for this place. I'm looking at all the one and two star reviews and wondering what the problem is. I go here on occasion and have never had the slightest bit of unpleasantness. In fact, a gentleman here was very helpful to my wife and I in terms of trying to salvage a carton of eggs from the mass of remaining broken ones they still had in stock. I was very happy with the level of service that I saw here and I believe that this Safeway is a good shake better than a number of others they have on the peninsula. It's clean, and obviously newly renovated. Maybe I'll go there someday and have a really bad experience that drops my rating down to one star, but I doubt it. For now, this place gets high ratings in my book. read more

I'm not exactly sure why this Safeway is being bashed on so much, it isn't the best since I had a rude encounter with an employee who didn't want to ring me up as he demanded his break promptly on the :50, but there is a starbucks inside with a nice barista. The location has AMPLE parking, and is located immediately off the freeway for easy access. I believe this place deserves at least 3 star for the matter of convenience, order, cleanliness. The workers could be a bit nicer, but perhaps this was just the encounter. He did check my id, and my credit card, which I do humbly appreciate. Later on after leaving this starbucks, I realize there is a bank of america here, a walgreens across the street, and 24hour with straw hat pizza across the freeway. This store definitely supplies our demands, and I think we can bow our heads to that. Yeah - the remodel is finished! Improvements - At last, you can get in the store with a cart and not have to negotiate a maze of clutter at the doors. They also have cute little carts that are just right for a single person picking up a few things for supper. No place to put a child or a duffel-size handbag in the cart, but I don't have either of those.The produce section has more space and everything looks clean. The card swipe machines have been replaced and they all seem to work now. I hoping I won't be losing my Safeway discount any more. Drawbacks - They added a Starbucks (why?), which reduces the space for real food. The chips are in displays at the end of the aisles (?) and the selection of nuts is really limited. Despite the new beautiful decor, things haven't gotten any better at this store. As a matter of fact, they've gotten worse. For one, why are they always are out of 2%milk. It seems like they are out ALL THE TIME! Especially over the weekend. I don't get it. WTF?! Also the morale of the entire workforce is in the shitter. All I ever hear when I'm waiting in line are employees complaining about not having breaks, not enough coverage, and bad remarks about their fellow employees. These folk looked stressed. Take for instance last week when I ordered a "Signature" sandwich. I would normally venture in to Columbo's, but due to time constraints and decided to go to Safeway instead. BAD IDEA! The line was about 4 deep and throughout the whole transaction the guy behind the counter kept complaining about how he was the only guy working the sandwich and deli counter. Oh yeah, it took longer than if I did order a sandwich from Columbo's. What a waste of time! It's hard not to shop here because it's so close to my house, but due to the recent horrible experiences I'll probably just go to the Linda Mar location or Lucky's. read more

This Safeway is absolutely awful. Every time I purchase milk, cream, or any dairy products from here they go bad within a week. Check the expiration dates before you buy, usually they're selling old product. As for everything else? 20-30 people are usually backed behind a single register and this place is horribly understaffed. Thank you Alex from Pacifica: I just encountered your post dated 7/02/16. I had an unbelievable experience with "Dion," and subsequent Safeway bureaucracy, myself. In January 2012, as a checker, Dion was incredibly rude. After I had bagged my own groceries; he had not offered to do so, or had even greeted me, I handed him my check for my purchases. As I left the check stand, I, admittedly, sarcastically, said, "You're welcome..." So, when I returned home, there was a voicemail awaiting me: "Hey Glenn, this is Dion, Go Fuck Yourself!" I was astonished! He had taken my phone number off of my check and had phoned and left this message! Regrettably, I had immediately deleted the message before realizing who had left it, fearing that someone else in my household might hear it. I spoke, or attempted to speak, with the store manager the next day. He defended Dion claiming that "he is and always has been such a nice person that this is hard to believe!" I replied by pointing out that as wonderful as he might have his fellow workers convinced that he is, he had no business phoning me OR leaving such a message. I got nowhere; I was even told that it was my fault for having erased the message which could have served as evidence. I spoke with that manager again, with the same frustrating results. I then took the matter to Safeway headquarters, only to be spun around in the same infuriating employee-saving cycle. At this point, regarding this incident, and Safeway's failure to take it seriously, I forward to the store, and Safeway, without repeating it, Dion's message to me. read more

They sell brown meat here. If you like stale meat, this is the place to go. Yummy, brown, stale ground beef wrapped with a deceptive, thin layer of fresh-looking red meat. And they'll charge you full price for it! Not that I would've bought it at any price had I known what was actually in the package. The pre-wrapped stuff was okay, it was just the stuff that was saran-wrapped on location that was questionable. read more

While this Safeway does not have the best selection and like other reviews said they do sometimes have expired stuff... pretty sure because they don't have a big turnover of food because it's a smaller store. This store is for emergency use only. I bought some mayo there once, got home and then noticed it had expired 3 months ago~YUCK-EEEEE. An Asian child asked where the black grocery baskets were kept and you directed her to the other side of the store. As soon as she stepped away, you made a store announcement asking for a black basket pick up. You had one to offer her. You chose not to. This review is mostly for the deli. Every time I come in there is an older Asian gentleman and a middle aged Indian woman working in the deli area and the gentleman is always very angry and hostile and slamming things around or talking very rudely to the woman that works with him. 1 day he was grabbing items from the hot bar for me and a friend and he starts in on the woman saying "ooh are you just gonna stand around or are you gonna help me??!? What's wrong with you??" Last time I checked it only takes 1 person to weigh out the food items... then he turns to me and my friend and says "Uggh some women am i right?" we didn't say anything back to him just gave him the wtf? stare and he replies back "ooh sorry" because he could see it made both of us very uncomfortable to be involved in there argument. Then just this Wednesday Sept 29th I was in there to get a few sandwiches before a concert and the same 2 employees are behind the deli counter together, I was in line and I could hear the man already going in on the woman "why are you staring at me? don't you have better things to do?" The man seems very unhappy to work here and is always upset, I have never heard the woman be anything but nice and professional to the man and to all her customers! After the man finished his customers last sandwich, with about 4-5 people still waiting in line for sandwiches and the hot bar, the man grabbed his items from the mini fridge and took his break without saying anything or having somebody relieve him, leaving the woman by herself with all the waiting customers. She looked so sad and miserable, when my turn came to make my sandwiches, I made sure I told the woman she was doing a great job and working very hard and I notice the mans actions every time i come in and it's just not right. She damn near started crying because I could tell she was so so frustrated and just the reassurance that she was doing a good job was comforting to hear. I worked as an assistant manager for a retail clothing store for years and years and I would have never ever let my employees treat each other in such a disrespectful manner, especially in front of customers. Safeway's manager needs to step in, have a presence on the sales floor, be a leader, and terminate or retrain there employees on customer service and professionalism. P.S. Basically been coming here since I was born over 20 years ago. Never ran into any problems that I can think of. This place is just a basic neighborhood grocery store in a small town. Nothing really spectacular. I always get what I need. However, on my last visit, like 2 weeks ago, some of the alcohol here are more expensive than other Safeways in SF. I came in 1 day and it was all one price, then I came back the following week and the price for the bottles went up like $5. I don't know why but just a sidenote I thought I'd mention. But, nowdays, there are other grocery stores like Sprouts in Daly City that have cheaper produce but if you're like me and you live walking distance from here, why would you drive to DC for some groceries? So this is just a good walk in-get what you need in 10 minutes-walk out type place. read more
