Inside, the store feels outdated and in serious need of a refresh. There are no self-checkout lanes, and instead everyone waits in a single line to be called to the next available register. It's an unorthodox system that technically works, but it's pretty frustrating when you only have a couple items. The understaffing is noticeable. I once had to check in at the customer service desk to retrieve a lost wallet (luckily a cashier had found it and held onto it). Even then, I waited about 20 minutes before anyone came by to help. When they finally did, they were kind and returned everything to me immediately- but the delay really highlighted how short-handed this store is on a regular basis. The cashiers themselves are consistently kind and doing their best, but it's clear they're stretched thin. The whole store feels like it's running behind what a modern grocery store should be. This Safeway could really benefit from a major facelift and, at minimum, a few self-checkout stations. Until then, it's mainly a place I stop because it's convenient- not because it's a good shopping experience.

I was finally able to make it in one evening. I had a similar experience as others noted in their Yelp reviews. The two people behind the counter weren't super friendly and gave a standoffish kind of vibe. They were chatting it up with some presumably regulars but pretty much ignoring customers like me. I ordered a glass of wine and seated myself at an empty table. The interior is cute and intimate. I really like the set-up and can see myself coming here for a glass and some alone time every now and then, but the service really needs to improve for me to make this a regular place I hangout at.
