I drive from SF to get bones for stock here at Save-More. It takes tremendous effort to make beautiful stock. All of the words I used to hear to describe wine, I think of when sipping and tasting great stock- depth, velvety texture, brightness, hints of pepper... Use poor ingredients and one ends up with descriptors such as sweaty motorcycle seat, musty cupboard, wet wool. I definitely want to avoid sweaty motorcycle seat. I buy great bones from Save-More. I came here initially to purchase their housemade raw dog food, but also picked up some short ribs which were a great price and quality. The second time I came to pick up dog food, they were out which was unfortunate. The dog food is in a freezer straight ahead when you enter and is $3.89/lb. This is reasonable for the quality you get, since they also add in veggies. I do wish it was a bit cheaper because it seems to be made primarily of chicken and organ meat, but you are paying for the convenience of having it all ground up. I take it home and cook and portion it as a topper/mix-in for my dog, and she definitely loves it. Service is friendly and welcoming as well! read more

I've been waiting for an excuse to get something here since you don't see stand alone butcher shops often, anymore. We got the rack of lamb today and holy heck it was SO freaking good!!! Very meaty, and because of how my mom cooked it at a high temperature, the thin layer of fat they left on it was PERFECTLY rendered. Double check you prices as you might get ripped off by the owner (Asian man) I will no longer shop there! I was buying prime rib, bones for soup and beef ribs. What happened is the gentleman in the store weighted the bones for and me, out loud said "$18.90" and he put a sticker on the counter next to the store owner while was cutting me the ribs, but the store owner was eager to weight again everything for me (prime rib, beef ribs and bones) while that was happening I calculated precisely in my head how much all will cost. The owner was not expecting me to remember that the ribs were ($25) as I asked each time...at the cash register (that was on the other side) he was happily adding things up, after all he told me the total was $198 He charged me $25.90 for the bones instead on $18.90 and $33.90 for the ribs instead of $25 I didn't know how much the prime rib was, he overcharged me there too! At this point I proceeded to ask him where the original sticker of $18.90 was? He acted like he didn't know, and then quickly took it off the counter and put in his apron pocket. I felt so cheated! bad mistake as he didn't expect me to remember each total! he then canceled my whole purchase of $198 and recalculated all meat (this time taking out the original sticker out of his pocke) my total was $154 buyers beware! read more

I don't review often, but I thought I should to show my appreciation. I discovered this market a four or five years back when I was looking for bone in pork butts for my competition BBQ team. I usually like to look through them to select ones with a larger money muscle. The butcher here didn't bat an eye and brought out 6 to choose from. Fast forward to now and their customer service is still stellar. I just picked up some pork butts for kalua pig and some spare ribs. The butcher offered to clean up the slab for me saving me prep time at home. My advice is go here if you want to support a family owned business where butchers are super friendly and knowledgeable. Also, pricing is very competitive and much more inexpensive than other stand alone butchers. read more

This is my first non-Asian-Supermarket butcher shop and now I understand what all the hype about a good butcher is about. The staff are so friendly and nice and helpful and don't rush you while you're trying to figure out what you want. First went here about 2 years ago when I was living in Pacifica and still make the drive down here every time I want delicious meat to make a feast for friends and family. Finally a butcher shop that is down to earth and friendly. I went to couple butcher shops in SF but a lot of them the staff were very lackadaisical and uninterested. If you didn't know the right terminology or if you wanted to get their input, they just would not be engaging. I came here on three separate occasions and each time the staff was friendly and when I didn't know the exact terminology they would ask questions and make sure that I got what I was looking for. They didn't make me feel stupid or a hassle. Friendly folks here. The quality of meat here is great. First time I picked up a couple of rib eyes and reverse seared it and it was tender, juicy, and moist. Second time I picked up a roast and I asked for couple tips and one of the butcher gave me several with great enthusiasm. The last time I was trying to find a cut of turkey, but didn't know exactly what and one of the staff helped me guide through the different parts of the turkey. read more

Love this meat shop. The beef soup bones for pho or decadent roasting beef marrow for spreading on bread is absolutely fantastic. They even do shabu style meat for hotpot (give them a 3 -4 hour lead time so that they can temper the meat for optimum slicing). They have become my regular butcher! read more

Actually, I don't typically buy meat for ourselves here (I don't live locally and it is not convenient for me to come here for our meat needs) but I come here because they have a pre-made raw dog food that has all of the essentials for my pups AND they can accommodate my very large monthly orders (65lbs). Additionally, they do custom orders for my cat food (just meat and organs, no veggies). As I'm a frequent visitor, I still get to see and hear the conversations that go on in this shop and I can confidently say this is a great place to buy meat! Everyone here is delightful and helpful. I have heard many people come through here asking about specific cuts and how to cook them and while the junior butchers may not have as much information as the owners, Matt, Kevin, and their mother June, they will absolutely loop someone in to ensure you leave with the right information and the right meat in hand for what you want to accomplish. I'm a big fan of this place. I used to live in Pacifica for a bit, and I would always get my meats here. When I'm in search for really good and affordable meats - I try my best to swing by this place. I usually opt for the ribeye. Some of them out there don't look great... but after you cook it - it's amazing. I do get worried sometimes, but that worry always goes away after the first bite. The guys who work here are super knowledgeable and can provide many suggestions on how to prepare the meats too. They have a little mini grocery section too for some veggies and spices. We had been trying to go to this meat market for a while. We finally did yesterday in hopes they had beef hearts, which they did!! They have multiple meat cuts and if you don't see it in the front, ask for it because I'm sure they'll have it in the back. Amazing customer service and the meat products are very fresh. We purchased: breakfast sausage, thick cut bacon, beef heart, and picaña. We will definitely go back and from now on purchase our meat from them. Safeway is basically selling beef of B- grade for "choice" prices. You have no idea how angry that makes me - it's like they think customers are stupid.
