I just had thee worst experience at the Safeway Jackson pharmacy I have had in 30 years. The line - while my groceries were melting - was 45 minutes long and the prescription I needed wasn't ready. After paying for my groceries and putting them into the car I came back and they gave me a different prescription and told me that the one I wanted "won't be in until Monday". (today is Friday) Safeway is 20 miles from my house. Dozens of people were fuming. An older wheelchair bound man got a page from his wife in the car (hot outside) and had to leave before his was ready. Unacceptable doesn't even begin to cut it. read more

If I could leave no stars that's exactly what I would do all the employees in the pharmacy are extremely rude. And they take days to fill prescriptions even though you've been told to come get your prescription it probably won't be ready! Horrible experience every time I go. Update- after standing in line for almost half and hour, it's finally my turn. I say I'm here to pick up three scripts....silence.....Then i hear,"it's going to take awhile to fill head". I'm think 10 minutes. Nope. An hour at least! My doctor sent the prescription over to the pharmacy several hours ago. The technician then tells me they are still working on prescription requests that came in Saturday. Omg this place is a disaster. Hopefully no one in line is deathly ill. Their funeral will be over before they get their meds. Come here if you want to stand in line for a half hour and then have them either not have your prescription ready or they fill it incorrectly. Shouldn't basic reading be a requirement to dispense controlled substances? The last time I had a prescription filled they gave me a sealed bottle that said 30 pills. My prescription is for 60 pills. They slapped their label over the bottle label. Luckily I know how to count. I came back in so they could fix their mistake and the pharmacist proceeded to have an attitude. It's not my fault you can't do you job. Currently I've been standing in line for over ten minutes and there are still 4 people in front of me. This is ridiculous. I stopped going here - the store is clean , well appointed, has a great deli , and nice flowers . Unfortunately, with all their benefits , the one drawback is their complete disregard for their customers time. 45+ minute checkout lines are common here. The store has like 14 checkout lines , but those are part of an intricate cosmic joke - more than 3 are never open and they never staff properly! it's pretty sad when the DMV could teach a private business about line efficiency and customer service - go to Save Mart - they are involved in our local community and actually care about their customers and never make you wait read more

I got some inari sushi from the Safeway deli section and I was quite surprised that it actually tasted decent. I had never bought any kind of sushi from Safeway before so I was a bit nervous. It was labeled as a California roll but it was actually inari. Also got some chicken strips too and those were good too. All in all I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. The service has always been extremely sub par here, lines are usually long since they only ever open a couple check stands no matter how long lines get, and it just seems to get worse. The other options in town have way better service. read more

This is the mother of all Safeways. It's large, clean, well-stocked, easily accessible, rarely if at all crowded and, most importantly, situated in rural-ish Amador County, so the folks our a special brand of country friendly. Despite being just another link in a massive chain, it reminds me of your old-fashioned grocery store where service and selection were a point of pride. Safeways in general are my grocery stores of choice. This is mainly because of their Rewards program, which gives you immediate discounts on select items. It also gives you discounts at the pump, and the Safeway gas station here is one of the cheaper station in the county. Throw in the occasional 10 cents off per gallon and you have a super deal on fuel with a full stock of groceries in the back seat. It may not be a small business (which I always try and support), but it has that small town feel. Come into this Safeway and you'll feel like you're getting your money's worth. read more

unfortunately not once has this pharmacy had my prescriptions ready. Even though i always call three days ahead of time, my physician has already called in the prescriptions and still never ready. Today i was there at 12:45 (well before lunch time) and again two prescriptions were not ready. The female helper (pharmacist helper) barked at me and said....WE ARE ClOSED For lunch you have to come back"!!!!! she wasn't professional, unkind and quite frankly rude. I used to love Safeway, as they were cheaper than Raley's and just as good. They still are a little cheaper, but in the last year or so, they only seem to have 1 checkstand open when I go there. Doesn't matter what time of day it is (morning, noon, or night), 1 checker! And watch out if it's the guy who always complains about his back! I'm sick of listening to him. If he is there, I go to a different checkstand (if there is one) or the self-checkout. Also, after they moved everything around, I stopped going for awhile, because that, plus the 1 checker problem just pushed me away. I started going to Raleys because they always have a few checkstands open. But Raleys is more expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. If Safeway would add a little bit more checkers (and one's that are friendly and don't complain about everything), I'd probably go more often. read more

This is an updated review. I've been a customer since I could remember. Safeway on Main Street in Los Gatos, Ca is where I shopped with my mom as a kid. 4 decades later, here I am in Jackson. Today was uniquely bad. I understand grocery store shelf real estate is competitive. Therefore, new products are creating pop-ups, their own shelving, out of heavy cardboard. Safeway has decided to put these pop-ups in every isle. Today I counted 8 pop-ups in one isle making it very difficult for just TWO shopping carts to shop in an entire isle. The frustration for me and others was beyond belief. Zigzagging a heavy cart with a bad back is painful. Please fix this!!!! Positive Thinking: Love being able to grab sushi. Very clean store. The store is perfectly fine, about the best Safeway I've been in so far. Often I go there on Fridays for their weekend specials. The staff is great, I'd say about the best of our local stores in the county, personnel wise. I don't like seeing lies told about them, and it is not and never was true that they don't bag groceries. By far the slowest and worst pharmacy I've ever had to get prescriptions from. The staff moves at an incredibly slow pace no matter how long the line is. Last time I was there the line went all the way back to the bakery. Even though that is with Covid social distancing that is still an absurd amount of people waiting considering there were 4 people behind the counter chatting away and 1 person on register. Glenn is the worst of them. He will stand there chatting and laughing with coworkers and if he actually does get on a register he makes you feel like garbage and stupid with the transaction. I am now waiting another 10 minutes after waiting 15 minutes in line because after I received a text message that my prescription was ready I am now told that it isn't. I would recommend going to a different pharmacy but unfortunately for the community this is one of the only ones left. My hope is management from safeway will review input from its customers and resolve the issue. Extremely disappointing considering I now have 3 people waiting on the side with me because they too got false notifications. read more

Safeway gives you the option of having your prescriptions mailed to you. The mobile app reports that everything is good to go. A week later the prescriptions have not been delivered. I call and find that it never got mailed because of a system glitch. That happens, but it would be nice to get a call so I can arrange to pick them up and not miss out on taking my meds. read more

My neighbor who is 90 yrs old received a message on her phone her prescription was ready to pickup. By the time she arranged transportation to the store, they had restocked the meds. They told her it would now be ready tomorrow and she would have to come back. Really, your making a 90 yr old woman make two trips to pick up her meds she's been taking for 30 years? read more

Safeway is my go to store. I must admit that I have come across some challenges with the customer service there in the past. With that being said I think they have started to address that or at least it appears that way. The shelves are always stocked full. At times the lines are too long at check out. read more

Clean, well organized and inviting. I love Safeway. It's a pleasure to shop here from an aesthetic viewpoint. The only down side would be that it's hit or miss getting a friendly cashier, whether it's at checkout, in the Deli, or bakery. I don't know if it's because they're union, but these aren't the happiest folks. I prefer self check out to avoid the mood. They don't have their act together. They text you that your prescription is ready when it is not. They don't tell you if they can even fill your script before you wait hours, then will not even call you to say they made a mistake and can't fill it after waiting for 3 hours. They don't apologize for wasting people's gas that live further away for sending false text alerts. read more

Scheduled my husband and I for the Covid shot. We drove 25 minutes to get there, and one very rude staff was "We aren't doing vaccines today." When I asked why she was again very rude and said "They were short stuffed." End of conversation since she walked away. Working in fast food, and other hospitality jobs I get it. However there were other ways to speak to a customer or patient when your short staff. If she would have said "I'm sorry, we don't have enough staff to do vaccines today." And when someone asked about their appointment could have said anything about how they don't have away to cancel them. At least acknowledge that people. If she would have at least said that they were short staffed in a nicer way I would not be writing this review. As is, since I work in a field that deals with staffing issues, as well as other people's mistakes being blamed on you I understand, but I don't understand is the rudeness to a person who only got in line and asked why.. read more

The Safeway Deli used to be a good place to pick up a quick lunch, not anymore! I had grilled chicken breast that was tasteless and a packaged green salad which was also tasteless (except maybe for the noticeable MSG derivatives that seemed to be added- very unhealthy) I should have picked up a salad at McDonalds! It would have been fresh and flavorful. No more visits to the Safeway deli for me! If there isn't an unhealthy level of fats and sodium in the food, it's tasteless!!! read more

I really only shop here for the gas rewards. Most of the girls are rude to the customers, and quite a few chew and smack gum while working, which I find to be disgusting and unprofessional. The girl I had today "Leann" was extremely rude, rushing all of the customers out, and tossing their groceries around. read more

I come in maybe once a year, and am always treated horribly. Even if I try to use the self check out to avoid the employees, someone goes out of their way to be disrespectful to me. Once, two employees did a cart race down an aisle and damn near collided with some customers at high speed. Another time, a cashier rang me up without once making eye contact or saying a single damn word. Hey, it's not my fault you're having a bad day, and that's not an excuse to be disrespectful. I spoke to a manager once and she seemed pleasant and willing to address my concerns, but it seems nothing has changed. Last time I was in there, it was busy and two of the self check-outs were down. I understand that when it's busy and things go wrong, it's stressful. However, when I rung up my order, the screen momentarily bugged out, and a distressed employee came up unsolicited and tried to explain to me it was my fault. By the time she arrived the bug had cleared out, so here I was being harangued by an employee for a fault in their system. I never willfully go there. Raley's is much better. read more

I like to buy gift cards for the extra points that go towards the gas rewards program. I'll use the cards to pay my bills (i.e. Visa to pay Water, PGE, etc.), or when I need to shop at Lowe's or Home Depot. I purchased a $500 Visa card for this purpose, but didn't realize until I got home that not only did I not receive the points, my receipt, which acknowledges my personal information and the $500 purchase did not provide any of the reward points. When I brought it to the attention of a Safeway employee, she told me to contact the Safeway Fast Forward program directly because she couldn't do anything about it. So, I sent them an email and five days later, still no response. I must say, Safeway's' customer service has really gone downhill the past few years. read more

This review is about Safeway Pharmacy, not their grocery store. I have 3 prescriptions, for blood pressure, thyroid, & cholesterol. No opioids or other often abused drugs. I take these pills daily, and have 30-day prescriptions. Been getting same refills at Safeway Pharmacy for about 5-years. I use their automated telephone refill system, and I've learned to make the phone call at least 4 to 5 days before I run out of pills. In the 5-years I've been taking these meds, I've NEVER been able to get my prescriptions refilled in one trip. That is 60 refill opportunities, and not once is the refill accomplished on my first trip to their pharmacy. Average number of pick-up attempts is between 2 & 3. Sure sometimes it's my doctor's fault, but most of the time not. I like their people, and still do. But I sense that problems like mine abound, as their folks are fairly unperturbed when I voice my disappointment at having to make multiple trips when I used their own system at least 4 to 5 days in advance of attempted pick-up. read more

I have had the unfortunate experience of shopping at the Safeway in Jackson since moving to the area five years ago. It is the most conveniently located store for me and they do carry a few items that I can't get anywhere else, so I keep going in the hopes that it might improve. Long lines, items not re-stocked, rotten produce on the shelves, dirty bathrooms. I won't shop their deli as I don't trust the food due to the uncleanliness of the rest of the store. The store is clearly understaffed and can't keep up with the volume of people coming through. I suspect they don't care because the store does huge volume, however, yesterday was over the top. There were only two manned checkstands open. I had a basketful of stuff including produce (I find what I can that isn't rotten to avoid two grocery store trips) so didn't want to do the self checkout. One of manned checkstands was 15 items or less--and only one regular checkstand open. Both of those lines were at least 6 baskets deep and growing. The aisles were jammed with people as if it were the weds before thanksgiving. One of the four self-check stands was out of order and those lines were 7 plus deep. I almost left my basket behind but was tired and didn't want to do a new round of grocery shopping elsewhere. I talked to customer service who called two people to the register who never arrived during this nightmare experience (I suspect they didn't exist). The two checkers looked stressed and the customer service kid was borderline rude and not at all apologetic. The staff at this store always seem a bit frustrated and I don't blame them. Having some management experience myself, I understand that being continually understaffed and having to deal with unhappy customers continually is a morale buster. I finally gave up and checked myself out at the self checkout. I did see at least two people throw up their hands and abandon their mission and their baskets in frustration. This Safeway is notorious for long lines (this was 3:30-4 pm on a Tuesday) but yesterday was outrageously more frustrating than usual. I suspect they get away with this due to the large volume and most convenient location. We are out in the country and people have to drive for miles around here to get anywhere. However, there are two other major chains in the area along with a couple of discount grocers--just a little extra driving. Yesterday was the last time I will shop this store for anything more than one or two quick convenience items. No more full grocery baskets there. I will now drive out of my way to shop in better stores as yesterday's nightmarish experience was the last straw. The level of no-customer service at this store is shocking. read more

The Jackson Safeway does not have a U.S. Bank like most other Safeways!!! So anyone living in Amador County who banks with U.S. Bank has to leave the county to do their banking. They also don't have a natural foods section. They do have some products and are starting to get organic meats but they are minimal. If you want organic/grass fed meats and more organic products, go to Raley's or Nugget in El Dorado Hills. The store is clean and nice but lacks many of the products I shop for. But their sandwiches are still the best! read more

This used to be my weekly grocery store. Great, friendly employees, great prices. But corporate decisions have ruined all that. The shelves are full of yellow tags offering non-deals (buy two bags of potato chips to get two free? seriously?) , the prices are expensive, there are never enough check stands open, and it's the only market in town where you are forced to bag your own groceries because corporate decided that baggers cost the company too much. Even the market which caters to the lower income families here offers better service. Almost all of the original employees are gone. Bakery and deli items are tasty. Check stands are chaos. What a shame the home office ruined a store that has been in this town in four different locations for over 50 years. If I could give this store zero stars I would. Probably good for tourists passing through grabbing a deli sandwich and a bottle of wine, but for weekly shoppers any other market in town offers better prices and service. The gas station is also laid out poorly and a total hassle. After shopping at this Safeway, following them as the moved locations to newer stores, for over 20 years, I'm done with them. read more

Used to go here all the time. It has been getting rarer and rarer that I go here, and I think today was my last visit. Never have any problem going through the store to select items, but when it comes to checking out, this store is IMPOSSIBLE!. This morning, a full cart and the only way to check out was either self-checkout, or getting into the "15 items or less" line with my full cart. No regular checkout lines available. So, I got into the "15 items or less line," as did the guy with a full cart ahead of me. People with just a few items stepped into line behind us. To the Cashier's credit, she called for a backup checker twice. No response. Line piling up. No Bagger to help the Cashier either, so she had to deal with the growing line, scan everything, and do all the bagging. When I complained to the Manager, he said another Cashier would not be coming in for almost an hour, so there was just the one. And the "15 items or less" line was always supposed to be open. Every time I go to this store, it takes forever to check out because they have no staff. I give up and will not be going back. Amazon Pantry for non-perishables, and the small independent store for everything else from now on. read more

This is with reference to the Pharmacy. I have 5 medications to fill each month. They have never been synchronized, so I need to visit the Pharmacy 5x each month. I usually end up going more than 5x however because they are routinely late in filling prescriptions. I ALWAYS wait in line, from 5 to 20 minutes. The line snakes out into the aisle which blocks shoppers, carts, etc. There is no privacy once you get to the window because you must state your name and date of birth. Anyone walking by, within a foot, can hear you. Why the clerks never seem to remember faces (names) is strange (do the math: 5x12 months...LOTS of visits for the past 3 years and no one ever remembers me?). The last straw was today. My doctor sent a refill request to Safeway six days ago. I went to pick it the day afterwards and was told they did not have it. So I waited for them to "catch up" and returned yesterday. They told me they did not have it and that the doctor had not "sent a fax". I went back to my doctor; said they sent it over six days ago. I called the pharmacy and was told, oh gee, our system was down all that day (six days ago) so you need to ask your doctor to send it again. WHAT? No apology for the inconvenience. Second time the "system went down" in the past two months. Done. Transferring all prescriptions to competitor in Ione. Safeway Pharmacy has too much business which results in long lines, lost prescriptions, cavalier attitude towards customer's privacy, etc. There are a couple older women who are professional and really try to help, but the rest (millennials) are unprofessional with "so what?" attitudes.; read more
